Did you know that Saori has a sister complex? Or that Sugimoto wants to date her teacher? Two very bad ideas, yet also the focus of this very volume. Go figure.

The world’s okayest yuri continues to plod along. There are certainly some yikes moments that will give some readers pause, but mostly this is just pretty average stuff that is reasonably good at filling time.

Saori’s at least smart enough to know that her romantic fixation on her big sis is as likely to happen as a male showing up in the story in any capacity. It’s a whole thing that the siscon storyline is the least yikes one.

Yes, student and teacher go on a date and that’s about all there is to say about that. They do a couple of the usual tricks - both characters are loners who make one another better, there is another teacher (!?) cheering them on (!!!???), and the young one is the more forward of the two.

To which I say, big whoop. I can occasionally handle a decently written age gap romance in the context of fiction, hello My Darling Next Door, but it needs a defter touch than this story could ever hope to achieve. The aquarium date is fine, but not one for the ages (hello Bloom Into You).

The siscon stuff fares better by a matter of degrees - especially since Saori keeps finding solace with Shizuku. Who was previously dating Minami before Minami started dating Saori’s sister. As one does.

Saori and Shizuku both mix about as well as oil and water, allegedly, but it’s more that they can’t bear to admit that they like somebody who isn’t the primary focus of their affection. Saori sees through Shizuku, but can’t manage to recognize the same sentiment in her own behaviour. It’s cute.

Minami and Iori struggle with different work schedules, plus some bad communication and the incredibly poor idea of looking online for situational advice. They’re a pretty solid couple so this is probably the tamest section, minus the sex.

As for Shinohara and Heke, editor and hopeless mangaka respectively, they finally kick things up a notch after Heke decides to overcome her fear of change. They also decide to go from zero to sixty in about twenty seconds, making for a pretty frisky (albeit implicit rather than explicit) volume.

This is all okay, but not great, yuri. The central conceit is fun and all the mishaps are amusing, but, as has been the case consistently, this is not a quotable or incredibly deep story. And certainly one with some questionable aspects.

3 stars - perfectly fine if you need a yuri fix, but if you want something better there are tons of more interesting titles out there.
