THE EIGHTH INSTALLMENT OF THE GRAPHIC NOVEL ADAPTATION OF CASSANDRA CLARE’S BESTSELLING THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS!
Jace’s nightmares are getting worse, as is his fear of hurting the one he cares for most. But he can’t avoid Clary forever... Meanwhile, Simon receives a note threatening his girlfriend’s life. When the Shadowhunters track down its source, what they find might be the most sinister thing they have ever encountered...
The enticing tale continues with gorgeous illustrations by artist Cassandra Jean, as well as a scene of Jace in the Silent City drawn exclusively for the graphic novel!
Cassandra Clare was born to American parents in Tehran, Iran and spent much of her childhood travelling the world with her family, including one trek through the Himalayas as a toddler where she spent a month living in her father’s backpack. She lived in France, England and Switzerland before she was ten years old.
Since her family moved around so much she found familiarity in books and went everywhere with a book under her arm. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).
After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears’ wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again. Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.
City of Bones was her first novel. Sword Catcher is her most recent novel.
Here we are. Second half of City of Fallen Angels done and AGAIN wow the graphic novel made me enjoy this book since it’s not one of my faves. Onward to volume 9 where we get to experience the trip that is City of Lost Souls 😭😭😭😭
Can't believe it's been 8 books! The action never lets up. Didn't love this installment as much though because there was so much happening that it was hard for any character or relationship to get the screen time they deserve. Still a compelling and exciting read nevertheless.
But it's hard to be fully onboard with the romance between Jace and Clary at this point because it just feels so toxic and harmful.
Eeek! This has been one of my faves of the graphic novel adaptations! I’ve enjoyed these more than I did the full length novels for TMI. Please gimme a release date for volume 9!!
Part 2 of City of fallen angels and the last volume for now! Ahhhh what a cliffhanger. I can’t wait for Volumes 8 and 9! 👏🏼 ____
⭐️ Favourite moments: (reminders)
• The shadowhunters catch Camilla (for drinking human blood) and she asks to speak with Magnus. That’s where Alic truly realises how ancient his boyfriend is, that his life with him will be short.. 💔
• Jace is even more exhausted in this volume.. 🥺
• He finally talks to Clary.. after slashing her arm.. ouch. They almost sleep together though! CC is a tease! 🙃
• Malec come back from Vienna. I was just in Vienna!! Writing this review around a week after my return. 🇦🇹
• Clary suggests that the nightmares are coming from somewhere and they go to the silent brothers. He needs the protection runes to be reapplied to him, because he did die in the last book. 🧐
• Jem: “ We cannot and should not harm this boy. Old ties exist between the Herondale and the Brothers, we owe him help.” — He means Will! He even mentions how he would’ve recognised that Jace is a Herondale if he had known him growing up! 😭🤍
• Jem, tearing up: “For you are a Herondale and Herondales will do anything to protect those they love.” — I love him.. and Will. So much. 🥹🥲
• Maureen dies because they think She is Simon’s girlfriend. She comes back as a vampire tho. 🩸
• Jace dreams of Max (a trick) and he cuts his veins open! It’s a bit graphic drawn out.. He falls under Lilith’s spill, and she makes him kidnap Clary. 😣
• Lilith is the first of all demons! Meant to be Adam’s first wife?! Knew Cain himself! And she needs Simon and Jace to revive Sebastian. That’s how he returns! They are linked! Raziel brought a soul back (Jace) and she demands a soul back too, for darkness. Balance..
• +She, a greater demon, was the one who gave Valentine her blood to poison Sebastian.. He is part *Great* Demon! 🤯
• Magnus tells Jordan that he knew the man who founded the Praetor Lupus, Weasley Scott! The werewolf from TID. Yet another reason to read TID before this book. It’s a nice Easter egg! 🙂↕️
• Camilla killed the Circle’s shadowhunters because of Lilith! Alec finds her bound after the worshipers (humans) freed her from the sanctuary.
• The demon babies are a result of the blood of those murdered shadowhunters + demon blood. Injected straight into the mothers. A horrifying attempt to creat more shadowhunters like Sebastian.. 😖
• Alic freed Camilla after she told him that she knows of a way for him to be together with Magnus forever. A way that isn’t becoming a vampire. It remains a mystery for now though. 🤔
• Clary cuts Jace’s chest to remove Lilith’s control! Epic fight after! But Lilith gets Clary, starts torturing her in front of them which makes Simon take one of the lashes for her, activating the curse of the mark! It disintegrates Lilith, but I don’t think she’s fully gone— I genuinely cannot remember.. 😅
• Maia and Jordan kiss! And they leave together. 🥹 He never meant to hurt her and she never knew the whole story until this book.
• Clary: “I could’ve asked for anything, and I asked for you. And I would do it again. I love you. Jace Wayland Herondale Lightwood.” 🥰
• Ends with Sebastian having enough power from Simon’s blood to compile Jace to contain the ritual and revive him. “We are one now, little brother, you and I.” — Poor Jace will really loath himself now.. 😭

Jace sigue invicto (te amo tetón no quiero perderte)
There is nothing that I can say, this is one of my favorite sagas, and seen how it has been translated into a graphic novel is honestly a treat. I have my issues with City of Falling Angels, I have always thought that the way that is written had many lows and so little highs, and even if that still the case today, I think having a visual representation of what I was reading help me to find a better understanding of the fourth book.
I can't wait to see what's going to happen with my favorite book: City of Lost Souls. I hope it's just as awesome as the rest of the volumes.
I have enough faith in you for both of us!
In all honesty, as someone who has read this series countless times, but most of those reads being in my teenage years. Revisiting the series 10 years after I read it for the first time and seeing it through a new lens, translated through the art of Cassandra Jean gives me a new appreciation for it.
And for the Mr Darcy coming out of the lake vibe Jace was giving during the end fight. Turning what was a really traumatising scene for me as a teen into something now a bit more horny!
Just great from when Jace dreams of hurting Clary , to Magnus and alec being together and Lilith is crazy trying to make demon babies but it's great a refresher to what happened in the books but in a graphic novel form and then I remember everything that happened in the books and I can't wait for the next one vol 9
While the art style is not my favorite this book is a very good substitute for the Mortal Instruments novels, which I don't have the time to reread right now. I think that's all I can ask from a graphic adaptation.
Not me screaming at them to do things differently so Sebastian doesn’t return as if I hadn’t read the book like three times 😭 Also Alec looked SO FINE in this volume omg and the malec feelssss good god
I already know exactly what is going to happen because I have read this whole series multiple times…but seeing it visualised accurately makes me feel like I’m reading it for the first time again!
