Stormie was so open and candid about her past and all that she has been though. Makes me love all of her Power of the Praying series even more. She has had an amazing journey and has become such a great woman of faith through all of it. What I took away most from this book was all of the hard work she had to do to work through all of the layers of pain, anger, sin and baggage in her life to grow closer to God and to be able to become the person she was meant to be. I learned a lot about her experiences of fasting, counseling, prayer and healing. Want to learn more about it and apply those things to my life and spiritual growth.

Stormie Omartian's mother was mentally ill, and her illness affected her childhood and young adolescence significantly. Her story will move your heart and make you think twice about the "horrible" childhood you endured. A book that one must read to get out of their "pit of despair" and wallowing in the challenges you've had to face in life. Her life will put yours in perspective.

Oh my gosh! This book was really something. It was a wierd strange thing how it just weaved its way into my life so innocently and once I picked it up, it was exactly what I needed.
I swear, me and Stormie have lived the same childhood. WOW. I had no idea there was another out there. I feel like she's my soul sister and I need to call her and meet her for coffee and embrace her for a long inappropriate time and tell her how much this book has meant to me. Such a BRAVE story to write.
Incredible.
This work gave me peace, gave me hope, allowed me to see that I can come out of this... with all my sanity, without compromising.

This book is amazing, and it's highly possible that everyone I know will get a copy of it.

I've read three of her books on prayer (Power of a Praying Wife... POAP-Parent... POAP-Woman). In them, she sometimes refers to past mistakes and to abuse. Because she seems so composed, I was not prepared for the reality about her life. I am glad that I read her other books before I read this one. It's given me new appreciation for what she has accomplished over time.

What an awesome book! I could hardly put it down. As a child, Stormie experiences physical and emotional abuse from her mentally ill mother, which led to Stormie making poor choices in her young adulthood. As an adult she experiences healing and forgiveness through Jesus Christ. This book led me to give my life to the Lord eight years back, and I've been with Him ever since!

Quick and great read; very encouraging. I think it's a wonderful book for anyone interested in reading about someone's journey to know and develop a relationship with Jesus Christ. It's just one story of many, but a story that takes you from the beginning of someone who is struggling in life, and eventually makes it to the point of complete restoration.

My life has been very similar in a lot of ways, and it was very encouraging and inspiring to read how God rescued Stormie from the pits of despair and restored her to what she is today. I can say that my testimony is of God's grace, love and faithfulness - He never left me to self destruct.

As the Word says in Psalm 63 vs 3 - 4: His love IS better than life!!

One of the best testimonies I have ever read!! stormie shows how her life went from bad, to good, and then to worse. Life is a struggle for those who experience a negative event & Stormie exemplifies how she experienced & accepted the hope of Christ in the end. A truly amazing story! & well written.

Grabbed me from the beginning but then got a little bogged down in places. Finished strong though. Very thought-provoking and helped me to make decisions in my life to let some specific things go.

Inspiring. Picked up on a whim from a thrift store for a quarter. When I think about her rise above the trials of child hood and depression I get courage to fight on.

I'm a redeemer

I chose this rating because as a believer of God Stormie has help me open my eyes to see deeper within me my struggles. Without God we are nothing. God loves us as is not our past or mistakes. I highly recommend you read this book because we all need God in our lives and this is something that helping me get through my rough moments. I thank you Lord for bringing this book to me. Praise God during your good and bad days. Seek him everyday not just in a time of need. HE is with us no matter what. HIS love is the greatest eternity we can ever ask for. Surrender and Receive.

This book was such an encouragement to me. I was horribly abused in my childhood and into adulthood as well and hearing this story about a woman who had survived horrific abuse and not only survived but thrived. She is such an encouragement to other people who have suffered such abuse to never give up we serve an amazing God who can heal any abuse and restore any hurt. This book helped me see that nothing is impossible with God. This was a very real and raw story of one woman's life and it will encourage others to not look at themselves as a victim but as victorious in Christ. Our past cannot define us only Christ defines us.

I could not put this down. This book told the author's story of a real transformation: from a very troubled childhood, to promiscuous teen and young adult, to a wonderful conversion. Stormie's story is proof that God is truly a God of second chances, a God who can redeem all things and make them new again, bringing good out of what was intended for evil. So glad I came upon this book. Having picked up her books The Power of a Praying Parent, and the Power of a Praying Wife and loving them, I searched for more from her. That's what led me to this book, and her newer autobiography (which I loved too). Gives hope to all of us.

Quite a testimony of God’s power to deliver those in bondage. Though I wouldn’t agree with all of her theology, it’s clear that we serve the same God. I enjoyed reading about how God helped her heal from abuse and other traumatic life events. Hearing her story made me grateful for my own healing, once again, and I’d encourage anyone who has been through anything that is life altering to read it. Stormie is a fantastic writer and really knows how to leave out all the details nobody is doing interested in. She gets right to the point and there’s no wading through pages of material unrelated to the story. Four stars, only because of the theological differences.

I really enjoyed this book. Stormie is a really well-intentioned, thoughtful writer who longs to share the gospel with others. She does so through sharing her life story and how Jesus has taken the dregs of her sin and made her whole.

I really responded to some of her struggles and appreciated her honesty. Some of the books were hard to read, but because her voice is true it's a really compelling read.

I enjoy her other books about prayer and wholeness, so it was good to get the whole back-story of her life in this book.

This book helped me to look at my own life and the things that happened...leading to wanting to forgive things deeply embedded in my past....knowing that god could help me if he had helped and delivered stormie...also realising through stormies book, that sometimes healing of a specific thing or person isnt always a one off., itcan be like the layers of an onion..ongoing, but forgiving each day...it cannot be done without the help and assistance of god..
Good book for those who have troubled pasts like myself..

This book is one I have given to many friends, and recommended to others, who have suffered with emotional problems. It helped me so much, reminding me that no matter what I go through, God is always there, and always loves me. Stormie is one of my most favorite authors, and I love her books, they always teach me so much and bless me so much. She seems like she would be a wonderful "friend-next-door" to anyone!

One of my favorite books! A biography about an actress turned writer and speaker now married to a famous musician. Her healing journey through Christian Counseling and prayer is amazing! Jesus found her after abortions, struggles with bipolar disorder and a divorce. If you ever wanted to know what the picture of Christian Counseling and healing should look like you should read this book.

Reminded me of similar life stories such as 'Child called it'. Experiences reach rock bottom but a faith in God brings Stormie all the way up again. Inspiring and a positive read which isn't always easy to find these days.
