After avoiding a disastrous marriage and trying to rebuild my life, I find myself working for an ex-boyfriend who dumped me like a hot potato without ever telling me why. And I have no choice but to stay.
I want to yell at him every time I see him, but now that he runs his own company, I must remain professional.
But let's face it's very hard for me to force myself to ignore the past when I'm stuck with my ex in an elevator or working late into the night with him.
And it's obvious that it's the same for his eyes and his attitude speak for themselves.
But just when I’m ready to give him my heart again, I discover that he has a daughter…a daughter he could only have had when we were together.
I just finished reading this book and I really enjoyed it.
Fiona is getting married and realizes she doesn't love Liam, so she excuses herself to the bathroom and climbs out the window and runs home. Later her mother chastised her for ruining their futures by not going through with the wedding. They then avoid each other in the house.
Fiona takes an opportunity at work to go to another town to work as a marketing strategy manager for a year. Escaping her mother, Liam, and the whole towns disapproval. Oh no, the new job is at the company where her ex from college is the owner. Nicholas dumped her in her senior year with no explanation and she's been angry with him ever since. How can they possibly work together. You’ll have to read this charming book to see how many twists and turns Fiona must deal with to survive in her new job. What will happen with Nicholas and Fiona's mother and now there's a child involved.
Ms Stone has crafted well rounded characters to tell this story. Everything that happens moves the storyline forward until the happily ever after ending. You'll laugh and you may even shed a few tears of frustration and anger, but you will not be bored by reading this book. I'd really like to see a follow up book about Fiona, Nicholas, and Tracy to see how they're doing.
I highly recommend this book for a few hours of escape from reality.
Fiona runs away from her wedding to Liam, because she realises she doesn't love him, and doesn't want a marriage to someone she doesn't love. After trying to stay in their small town, where people aren't really kind to her because she ran away from her wedding, she gets a chance to take a work contract in another city, and she sees this as a chance for a new start. However, this contract ends up being for the company of her ex, Nicholas, who broke her heart 5 years ago, when he broke up with her completely out of the blue and with no explanation.
I enjoyed the fact that this was a runaway bride story where the bride wasn't saved directly from her wedding by the hero of the book. But rather that she was standing up completely for herself.
Tracy, Nicholas's daughter, was a super cute character, and I loved her interactions with Fiona.
This was a great read, where the heroine of the story worked to improve herself and overcome her weaknesses and challenges without having to be rescued.

Runaway Bride's Second Chance - Chelsea C. Stone Read April 26th, 2024 - 262 pages
Fiona ducks out a window when she realizes she doesn't actually want to marry her fiance' Liam. She ends up taking a job offer in another town to get away from all of the chaos & turmoil, but little does she know that she is setting herself up for a whole other load of trouble.
The job is with her ex named Nicholas from college. She was dumped with no explanation and is uncertain how things will go if they are forced to work with one another. To make matters worse, they get stuck in an elevator together, allowing for not only forced proximity but also a second chance at rekindling the flame.
Would not recommend this book to anyone who reads only clean books. Has a scene where H and h have sex out of marriage. The scene added nothing to the story. The rest of the story was fine. The H was a nice man but unable to express his feelings and tell the h the complete truth of what was occurring in his life. As a result the h was rightly angry with him and he knew that he deserved it, he didn’t tell her the truth until she finds things out from others. In the end all comes out and a HEA results, even healing of his relationships with his brothers in laws.
Fiona runs away from her wedding because she doesn’t love the man she is going to get married to. She moves to another city, as she gets a job there and surprise!! Her boss results to be her first love, the man who abandoned her without a word. Nicholas can’t believe his eyes when he sees his new marketing strategy manager is Fiona. This was a very enjoyable book. I liked little Tracy, she is so cute. And I loved how Fiona defended Nicholas against Abigail. I DNF'd this book at 72%, and I only made it that long because I wanted to know why the main characters had broken up in the first place. It was drivel, and it made no sense.
This author needs to figure out how to show us and not tell us everything. Most of the book is the characters talking to themselves. It is overwrought and nothing happens. The characters themselves are boring and derivitive. There is just no originality. And on top of it, neither of them are very likeable.
I love second chance and enemies to lovers, but this one just falls flat.
Fiona is the runaway bride , out the bathroom window no less , when she comes to terms with the stark truth. She does not want to marry Liam much to her mother’s chagrin. But when she gets to her new job , Nicholas her ex is the boss! Brilliantly sweet , forced proximity romance. Exquisite prose and perfect descriptions made this an unputdownable experience . Compelling storyline. I read an advance of this book and I’m leaving a review voluntarily in my own words
While it is good that Fiona didn’t go through with her marriage to Liam, she didn’t pick the best time to have done that. He really didn’t deserve to be left at the altar but better then than after the wedding. The author has given us a fun rom com with interesting characters who have a history, a delightful daughter, Tracy, two grumpy know it all mothers/grandmothers, humor and of course, romance. I really enjoyed this story.
This is Nicholas and Fiona’s story. This is a well written story which has family, friendships, enemies / lovers, emotions, forced proximity, second chances, humor, witty banter, revelations, challenges, and love, which leads to an entertaining and sweet romance. Seeing the journey that both main characters took was one that wasn't easy. It was really good to see the choice that Nicholas took in taking care of his responsibilities with Tracy. Fiona did an awesome job for the contracted company and gave new insight in how the company should operate. Fiona gave Abigail something to think about.
Fiona and Nicholas's story is like being on a Roller Coaster of emotion starting on parallel tracks, the highs / happy moments between them and Tracey, the lows / working through their pasts and drama moments along with the upside down screaming at the characters to believe in their relationship/ difficult family moments. Very quick but sweet ending
She ran from her wedding and now she is working for an ex who left her. She has no choice but things will change when she learns he has a daughter. A daughter he had while they had been together. What will she do? Will she give him a second chance? How will she deal with it all? See how they get on
Fiona avoids a marriage to a man she didn't love, and after a move comes face to face with her former love, who abandoned her with no reason given! As she finds out the reason, she wants to forgive, but it still isn't easy... and then her ex shows up - Keep reading for a HEA!
Sad and happy was how this story made me feel. At times even frustrated that the characters did just speak their fears. In the end the story came together for a happy ending.
I loved this book. Both parties had people who were critical and condescending but worked through the issues and learned to resolve them and stand up for themselves. The many twists and plots kept it interesting. Highly recommend.
I had a hard time with the beginning of this book because the mother is so cruel and heartless, but the storytelling has a unique voice and the pages are interesting.
I had hopes for this lightweight, second chance contempirary ronance. It was kinda cute with a pair of college sweethearts separated after his college graduation for, at least from her point of view, no discernable reason. They each move forward with their lives until they are thrown together by their jobs for a 12 month contract. I had hoped for more visible and sustained character development. More conversations between them that shows a deepening commitment and shared values. Instead, the pair hop in and out of bed, although with few details. Neither do those intimate conversations occur. The characters tend to avoid any conversation that might be the least bit confrontational or uncomfortable. All in all, I was left feeling just a bit underwhelmed. If you are looking for something that is on the light and fluffy side starring characters with 'modern' sensibilities, you might enjoy this.
I purchased a copy of this story and voluntarily chose to share my review.
