Deeply moving, raw and thought-provoking, transcended, is the much-anticipated sequel to the award-nominated debut, descended. Welcome back to Sydney’s Northern beaches in the 1990s.

Indigo loves Cordelia.
But Cordelia loves Drew… Or does she?
Worst of all, Reinenoir loves Indigo. In fact, she loves him to death.

With Reinenoir’s true identity revealed, it’s become clear her obsession with Indigo is personal. She wants him; him and his power.

But all Indigo wants is Cordelia. She’s the love of his life but she’s just shattered his heart. In every fibre of his being he knows they’re meant to be, that they have been, time after time, life after life. Indigo is torn: should he fight for her, or wait for her to realise their souls are irrevocably tied only to one another’s?

When they’re hit with an unimaginable tragedy, Indigo is forced to question the power of predestination and the true meaning of life, love and death. Will it bring him and Cordelia together, or tear them further apart?

And all the while Reinenoir is out there. Watching. Flexing her growing power. Waiting to see if Indigo will switch sides and join her coven. She’s kept her end of the bargain after all, allowing him time to decide, but her threat was clear: if he denies her again, she’ll turn the full brunt of her powers against him.

And now, Indigo’s time is up… and Reinenoir knows exactly who to hurt to break him…

Touted by readers as Twilight meets Puberty Blues meets The Craft meets Looking for Alibrandi, descended is an imaginative tour-de-force series about the big and small decisions we make every day and the ripple effect they have on the rest of time – even if they’re celestially pre-determined.

This is the second book in the series, after Descended, which I also loved. I needn't have felt apprehensive going into this one either, because it's just as good, if not better than it's predecessor. It starts straight after Book 1 so I definitely recommend reading that first.
I was already accustomed to the author's writing style so I flew through this.
Book 3 awaits me and I can't wait!

Transcended is a lovely and heartfelt sequel to Descended by one of my favorite YA authors!

Filled with 90s nostalgia, Aussie surf culture, and found family, this coming of age picks up right after the surprising info revealed at the end of book one. We dive deeper into Cordelia and Indigo's soul mate story after she breaks his heart last book. 💔

I am really enjoying this series so far, even though I'm much older than the intended audience. Give this a go if you like YA coming-of-age stories with some magic and life lessons.

Tysm, Ingrid, for the ARC! Looking forward to book 3!

Thank you to Sunny Babe PR and Ingrid J Adams for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Transcended starts off where Descended ends off. Indigo is still fighting for Cordelia and Cordelia is still with Drew. The book also delves into the history of other characters such as Reinenoir and Raf which I thought was perfect. Just like Descended, this one ends with a cliffhanger..

I absolutely love how this book continues to look at the idea of past lives and love across lifetimes. Indigo and Cordelia gravitate around each other and complement each other well. You can tell that they are soul mates.

This book hits you emotionally - you literally feel all the emotions - happiness, heartbreak, fear, sadness, anger. It also makes you think - about past lives, soul mates, higher consciousness, fate and destiny.

It's raw, beautiful, real, and vulnerable. It's messy and emotional, light and dark, tame and wild. Adams takes you through a rollercoaster ride through not only the lives of this beautiful group of people but through 90's nostalgia.

I can't wait for the third book and to find out what happens next.

Wow! Ingrid, you’ve done it again! That was an intense, beautiful, emotional rollercoaster and I loved every page. What an incredible book two! I didn’t want it to end.

I loved being back in Indigo and Cordelia’s world, with their friends and their families, as well as being back in the 90’s! I absolutely adore Indigo, he is so thoughtful, caring, kind and a spunk! Robbie was my other favourite character, he really made me laugh sometimes.

I love the way Ingrid writes, it’s so detailed you can really feel the love between characters, and you get totally invested in every single character and everything they are going through. Not going to lie, I had to reach for the tissues a few times, yes, there were free flowing tears from me again.

I also enjoyed more of the witches and warlocks, special powers side of the story, which is something I don’t read much of but found it so fascinating, it blew my mind! I loved it!

I went through every possible emotion reading this book and I cannot wait for book three! I highly recommend both of these incredible books!

Thank you so much @ingrid.j.adams for sending me this copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this! It's such a great sequel to it's predecessor, Descended. The premise of this was good and was more or less a straight time line continuation of the first.

The book was well written and flowed nicely. It was set in sunny Australia again for the most part and there were lots of beautiful visuals of here and the other locations. There were no plot holes or unanswered questions.

The characters were all back and on fine form again! I still adore Robbie. He makes me chuckle. Indigo and Cordelia were great too. The friends from Arizona were just as charming. They all worked well together, strengthening and developing bonds.

The book is written in third person from multiple POVs. This worked well as we got to see the story unfold with various characters.

I definitely recommend this!

A Big Book Worth Its Weight in Nostalgia

I’ll admit, tackling anything over 400 pages feels like prepping for a marathon—daunting and maybe a little insane. But by the time I hit the first page, I was already giving this book a standing ovation in my head. Kudos to Ingrid Adams for nailing the tricky task of content warnings—thoughtful but spoiler-free. For anyone who needs to peek ahead, there’s full disclosure on the website, but the execution here felt seamless. Also on the first page was a Spotify playlist. Yet another absolute banger and I was grooving and singing along just scrolling through the song titles! It set the tone perfectly and put me in the right frame of mind, ready to tackle the big book!

Reuniting with Indi, Cora, and the gang was like catching up with old friends—the ones who don’t judge you for ordering a Midori splice. The story is packed with so many gloriously cringy Australianisms and nuggets of 90s nostalgia that I couldn’t stop grinning. Highlights include:

Checking in for an Ansett flight (back when it was still a thing),
Surviving Schoolies (because Surfers Paradise was the ONLY choice back then),
The hot wog that got away (political correctness wasn’t a thing in the 90s, but damn, I laughed),
Broken payphones that destroy your plans and your will to live,
References to Back to the Future (timeless), and
A Toy Story bedroom joke that had me cackling out loud.

The writing is also unexpectedly gorgeous in parts, especially when Ingrid brings chakras and “woo woo” spirituality to life with stunning imagery. Honestly, as someone knee-deep in the peri-menopause trenches, I now want my own guardian spirit to drop in with some dietary advice à la Wilson’s guardian. Where’s my inner nutrition coach, universe?!

But seriously, for those who have considered dipping a toe into a paranormal book, this could be the series for you. With its cocktail of spirituality, higher senses magic like telepathy and telekinesis, past lives, witches, covens, and warlocks, the story masterfully blends the mystical with the mundane. One moment you’re deep in a spellbinding scene of magical mayhem, the next you’re getting a crash course in 90s surf culture—Midori splices, Ansett flights, and all. It’s like the universe decided to mix chakras with board shorts, and honestly, it works. The fantasy elements are delivered with such humour and charm, they feel as natural as a day at the beach.

Quotable Highlights:

“He told me if I so much as touched his daughter, he’d drive me out to the Belangalo State Forest and make me wish I’d accepted a lift from Ivan Milat instead.”

“You’re not just another quote on my page…you’re the whole fucking library.”

“Holding his breath, dismally aware it probably smelled like a filthy pub floor the day after St Patrick’s Day.”

This book is a wild ride of nostalgia, humour, heart, and just the right dash of magic. Whether you’re a 90s kid craving a trip down memory lane, a fan of Aussie authors and settings, or someone who loves stories that make you laugh out loud and feel all the feels, this one’s a must-read. Bring on April 2025 and book 3!

Once again, Ingrid has me in awe, completely destroyed (in the best way possible) and absolutely obsessed with the Descended series. Transcended drew me in from the first words and I experienced every emotion imaginable throughout this amazingly raw and unique story.

After reading the first book, I had a feeling this series would land in my top reads of all time, and Transcended made that a reality.

Book 2 is the continuation of Indigo and Cordelia's world. They're in their late teens now, in the mid-late 90s, and struggling to connect the separate paths they've each landed on. The amount of love between these two can truly be felt. It's bigger than life.

There are twists and turns throughout the whole book, and we learn more about other characters like Raf and their enemy Reinenoir. There's also some action and fight scenes between good and evil.

The magical realism in this series is so unique, and I loved diving deeper into the intricacies of the different powers, and getting the visuals of what the "normal" eye can't see. The tie in to the Chakras was so fascinating, and the way death was portrayed was beautiful.

Ingrid has a way of bringing such raw emotion and serious issues together that I feel it so wholeheartedly. It connects me to the characters and truly makes me feel what I'm reading. Amazing!

I cannot recommend this series enough, it has lodged itself in my soul and I know it will continue to leave it's mark on me with each book I read.

Thank you to Sunny Babe PR for providing me a copy of this book!

DNF at like 90% lol. I was just SO bored! Almost all of the plot happened between 40-55% of the book and then they just let the antagonist go seemingly just to drag the book on. It felt really forced. The entire rest of the book was just the gang hanging out. It did NOT need to be 540 pages. I have no idea why almost all the reviews on this book so far are 5 stars.

Oh my god. The emotion in this book.

Like descended, transcended touches on some tough topics and delves into societal expectations in the 90’s. Ingrid J Adams brings all the grief, love and struggles of growing up in a poetic and emotionally charged way. This series is puberty blues with some magical realism thrown in and I’m here for it.

I laughed, I cried, I gasped and I raged.

Transcended follows directly after descended as we follow the gang in the search for Reinenoir (I think that’s how you spell it) and we get to pick up right where we left off.

What I loved about transcended was how we really see these characters come into themselves. Robbie, Cora, indigo, even drew and the Akasha gang. I loved the action scenes in and the covens coming together. And the way the powers and auras are fleshed out. Seeing indigos healing in more depth was awesome.

In transcended, we get more world building with a glimpse the pasts of some of the other major characters which ties in some storyline’s. I especially loved Raf’s background and the mic drop at the end.

I absolutely loved seeing indigo and Cordelia fall in love again. My sweet heart was so enamoured by them but I’ll admit that Robbie and Sasha stole the show. I ship this couple so much. They make my heart so happy.

The tensions were high, the plot twists on point and the 90’s references were perfectly nostalgic so much so that I started cranking a 90’s playlist. Through in the dialogue that hit all the feels and the banter and it’s an easy five stars.

Thank you @SunnyBabePR and Ingrid J Adams for this ARC!

Transcended is the highly anticipated sequel to Descended and is jam-packed with more ‘90s nostalgia. So if you grew up during that time, these books will give you all the feels as you follow the main characters, Indigo and Cordelia.

We pick back up with MCs Indigo and Cordelia after the crazy plot twist in Descended. Indigo is fighting for Cordelia and Cordelia’s attention is still on Drew. I love how we get to dive even deeper into these characters and learn more about Reinenoir and Raf. Adams creates characters that are well-developed, each grappling with moral dilemmas and personal growth. You can tell Cordelia and Indigo are soulmates as they continue to gravitate towards each other.

This book will send you on an emotional journey of love, happiness, heartbreak, fear, anger and sadness. There are major themes of fate, destiny, loss/grief, past lives, and higher consciousness. It’s so raw and vulnerable, I was definitely in my feels!

There’s more incredible world building, romance, magical realism, and ‘90s nostalgia to keep you completely enthralled. With its intriguing plot twists and deep thematic resonance, this novel is another testament to Adams’ skill as a storyteller. It’s a must-read!

Review:

My god I’m so glad the gang is back. If you haven’t read Descended yet, please do before you read further! I’m going to avoid spoilers but even still please just go read it. The series is set in Australia in the 1990s and weaves fantasy with action, teen angst and longing, with a bit of romance and adventure as well. It’s so well done and I need you to read this world.

This book had my emotions running the absolute gambit. I haven’t read a book in a very very long time that deals with grief and loss like this one does - the way a certain death is handled is...beautiful? Beautiful if not peaceful, and as someone who lost someone way too soon, it was incredibly comforting to read.

I absolutely loved getting back into the lives of Indigo and Cordelia and Robbie - they are such well written characters that they truly feel like people you know in your real life. The setting, as in the first book, is insanely nostalgic and makes you long for simpler days. It’s also always fun to see magic powers manifest in a contemporary world - it makes you believe that maybe (just maybe) magic is all around us.

I’m begging you to read Descended and add Transcended to your TBR - you don’t be disappointed!

Indigo & Cordelia’s epic love story continues, this time with more twists & turns than ever. I think I experienced the full spectrum of emotions going through this intricately well written sequel, the story just flowed so naturally that it did not feel like it was 600+ pages long at all! I felt like I breezed through this book super quickly and that’s a lot coming from me (I tend get easily distracted while reading, whoops 🤭)! I cannot wait to see where our Akasha gang goes next and what awaits them throughout their journey in this life and beyond. Something I love is that the world building is unique to the author and unlike anything I’ve ever read before, it makes this story all the more special. The trips down memory lane, the pondering of the little decisions we make that have big ripples over time, the character development and the way their origin stories have you tugging at your heartstrings (lYKYK 🥹) for them is something I’ll always love about this truly remarkable read. 5/5 ⭐️

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy from Sunny Babe PR.

I had recently read the first book, Descended, and fell in love with Indigo, the paranormal additions and the 90’s nostalgia.

Transcended is the second book by Ingrid J Adams and picks up where book one left off. I did appreciate the flashback at the start of the book that gave a refresher of the characters in play. This continuation of the journey was so enjoyable. They grow up, they experience big events and they are given a chance to find joy in where they are at. There is a richness to the story that makes it feel possible, a blend between contemporary and the paranormal that I think even those who don’t tend to read that genre (or romance) might still find enjoyable.

I look forward to seeing what Ingrid J Adams has in store for us next.

(And can I just say the covers are gorgeous too!)

The second installment of the #descendedseries
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you @sunnybabepr and @ingrid.j.adams for a copy of this book! I am beyond happy I got to continue on this epic love story!

Indigo has returned to Australia, and he’s not alone! With Reinenoir’s identity now revealed, Indigo knows how far she will go to get her way.

Not only are we dealing with a major threat in this book, some heavy issues are presented, death, addiction, and obsession.

This book made me cry at least 4 times if not more!! But it made up In it with the bonds that were built from the broken pieces! Indigo found his family, they may not be blood but they are the family he created and needed, and they needed him just as much!

This book touched on the importance or friendship and love, and how being your authentic self can heal so many wounds. So many characters I feel found themselves in this story and it made my heart to happy! The ending left me wanting more! Fingers crossed we get to read more about RAF’s story soon!!

"When it comes to love, there’s absolutely no sense to it. Because… because you’re the one I want, Inds,” she blurted. “It’s you that I love. And no amount of logic or reasoning makes an ounce of difference to that. Because how I feel for you… it transcends it all. It transcends everything.”

“You’re not another word on my page, Cordelia, how could you even think that? You, you’re everything. You’re the whole fucking library.”

First off I want to thank @sunnybabepr and @ingrid.j.adams for sending me this wonderful ebook

Transcended is book #2 in the Descended series. I highly recommend this series! Set in the 1990's in Australia this coming of age fantasy romance had me in tears both happy and sad. This book has multiple POV's (love!) with characters you can't help but get attached to. I was fully immersed in the world that Ingrid created with just enough magic to make my heart sing.💖

The only downfall is that I now must wait for the next book to find out what happens next😜

Transcended by Ingrid is one of those books that I would never get tired of re-reading and reading again and again... I had already fallen in love with the vibes that we find with the nostalgia of the 90s that make me have heart-shaped eyes. This second volume continues where we left off but I must say that it won me over even more than the first, I didn't want to put it down and I didn't feel like I was reading a book of more than 500 pages. ..The main characters grow in many ways and you can't get passionate about all of them. The thing that intrigued me most was the mix between the contemporary world, the paranormal and romance.. when is a book good for me? when it touches certain chords within you and I find you crying without realizing it. What do I take away from this book? Only by truly being yourself can you overcome the difficulties we have to go through. The ending made me want to have the sequel in my hands... Ingrid with this book you are one of my favorite authors. 5⭐

Wow! I did not see the ending of this book coming. I have to say transcended was a quicker and more enjoyable read for me than descended. I'm so glad Indigo and Cordelia ended up together finally. I'm really hoping the third novel doesn't end up having an accidentally pregnancy, though. Please, Ingrid, let them be young and in love and learn to master their powers together before adding anything else into the mix!! This story is like Twilight meets witches. I love it so much and love the friendship dynamic between everyone. The whole concept of coming back into a different life and always finding the same souls to be attached to is so fascinating to me. I enjoyed the different back stories of Indigo's previous lives and seeing how the timeline is similar yet different. I can't wait for the third novel.

Please note that this is book 2 in a series and my review might contain some spoilers for book 1 ~ Descended.
Well I was crying 2 chapters into this book, and I mean sobbing!
I really loved that we got more of an insight into some of the other characters in this book, especially Raf & Harper
I loved getting to see more of Sasha, Rory & Nash in this book!
Okay this book made me cry and then cry some more.
This book follows a variety of POVs which I really enjoyed.
The found family has grown from its start in Descended and the two found families of Indigos have joined and it was so beautiful to watch unfold.
The ending. Please stop doing this to me. Now patiently waiting for book 3!!!

This was such an intriguing follow up to descended and I loved the 90’s vibes even more in this book than in the last one. I also loved the intriguing bit about magic and soul mates and how people can basically feel how they are made for one another. I really felt for indigo when he and Cora were separated and the journey he goes on to find his way back to her kept me enthralled the entire time I was reading. Amazing story!Thank you to Ingrid J. OMG, this was amazing! I loved Descended, which was the first book in this series and I loved Transcended even more. I love how when you begin to read the book; it seems as though it is all about normal people, living normal, everyday lives. Then you realise that many of the characters have some sort of power, whether telepathy, empath or healing powers. Then, of course, there are the covens and the warlocks! I cannot begin to explain how invested I am in Cordelia, Indigo, and Robbie’s lives.

Transcended is set in the 90s, on the northern beaches of Australia, and despite some devastating events, the sun always seems to be shining and the whole book is full of positivity and vibrance.

I am so happy that Ingrid reached out to me over a year ago to read her debut novel. She has fast become one of my favourite authors.

If you enjoy a fantasy novel that isn’t too ‘out there’, then I urge you to read Descended and then Transcended. They are both amazing and I am so glad I spent the last week in the company of these wonderful characters in Ingrid’s latest release. I hope she’s writing quickly because I absolutely cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Thank you to Ingrid J. Adams for the opportunity to read and review Transcended.

4.5 stars-rounded up for good reads!

This is book 2 in the Descended series and I’m kinda distraught that I have to wait now for the next 🥹😭. This one picks right up where Descended leaves off and ends in another cliffhanger. If you’re into magical realism and are wanting to dip a toe into the fantasy world these books are perfect. The setting is dreamy and nostalgic (coastal Australia in the 1990s) and the characters are so so lovable. This one leans more adult than YA like Descended did and I appreciated that bc the characters are a good bit older in this one than when they are introduced in Descended. If anyone knows when book 3 comes out please let me know 😂

Transcended picks up right where we left off in descended. This book is very emotional and brings a new perspective to past lives and the concept of a soul mate. It really gives you a lot to think about. I loved the 90s nostalgia aspects. The references were perfect!! The author also added a few plot twists that made the read even more enjoyable!
Tropes:

Even though I'm not a 90s kid, descended series has my whole heart!
In the month of April, I read the story of Indigo & Cordelia, their struggles and the love they have for each other

Now I am back into the 90s and feel again where the book 2 starts just after the ending of book 1.

transcended talks about twists, love, protection, mid -late 90s feels, some magical realism, beach vibes 🌊, anger, loss, happiness and finding the family.

I am in love with the world building and cannot get enough of indgrid & cordelia , the love & care they have for each other.

the best thing about reading it is getting to listen to the amazing playlist because of which I am able to find some 90s gems✨

the most fascinating thing about the story was talking about magical realism, the depth and intertwined story of chakras was. The portrayal of everything was unique😮‍💨

I was so excited to read the second book in this series by Ingrid J Adams! I loved the first book and I now love this one!

I love the time period this is set in because I was a teenager in the 90's and I honestly missed that time. Times were easier back then.

Reading this makes me want to root for Indigo and Cordelia. Ingrid J Adams ( @ingrid.j.adams ) knows how to write and build the characters in a way that made me love them.

If you are looking for a amazing series you should definitely give this one a shot!

This story… was devastating, breathtaking, heart wrenching… transformative. I am obsessed with this series. I slowed myself way down to savour it across many more days than I wanted to (I wanted to call in sick to work and just devour it). I felt broken, then healed. The emotions I feel when reading Ingrid’s books is visceral and I LOVE IT.
The beautiful balance of mystic, real life, and human growth is just perfect.
The deep connection of found family destroyed my soul in the best way. Exploring the love between adoptive step parents and their children, found family, soul mates, friends, siblings, and partners - it’s inspiring.

If you would have asked me in the first half of Descended where this story was going… this direction wouldn’t be it and I’m not mad about it. The twists and turns always have me guessing what will come next even if I have a few theories of my own. It was fun to see the story unfold through new perspectives and get some back story on secondary characters it really helps to weave this interconnected tale.

I’m blown away and can’t wait to see what is in store next for Indigo and Cordelia!

Thank you to Three Bees Press for a copy of Transcended in exchange for an honest review!

The newest bewitching series by Australian writer, Ingrid J. Adams. Incredible, Dynamic, Evocative. I could not put it down, I have been a fan since the multi-award-nominated pilot descended. I read this book in Ubers, during doctor visits, before bed, and at church (sneakily). I'm grateful Adams has allowed us to come along on Cordelia and Indigo's life journeys. As I read through their fight scenes, I root for them, cry with them, and somehow get an adrenaline rush as I read through their fight. I am excited to see where the next books take us. Hands down, it has been my favorite series for a long time.

In this second book in the series Transcended follows on seamlessly from Descended. That said, there are excellent references back to the previous storyline should a reader pick up this book as a standalone (if so, please don’t miss out on Descended!). The love triangle of Indigo, Cordelia and Harper continues in 1990’s Sydney, Australia. Their relationships and emotions are raw and real in this coming of age book. All of them have strong and powerful feelings, to the point of obsession. I liked knowing about the back stories of some of the less prominent characters in the book which were not explored in Descended. I enjoyed the exploration of Aboriginal healing and Arnhem Land and liked the character Robbie and his love life and happiness. I still loved the 1990’s songs chapter titles. Pure nostalgia and happy memories!

With themes of love, loss, grief, friendship, jealousy and betrayal, drug taking, chakras, paranormal, warlocks, covens and telepathy the book has everything. It is full of explosive twists and turns, especially the cliff hanger at the end. It is a tome of a book but the flow of the storyline and skill of the writing by the author makes it easy and compelling to read.

I commented in my previous review about the wonderful cover. This one is equally appealing, Cordelia’s heart this time. I can’t wait for the third instalment, Harper’s heart? If she has one….
