Casey Morales is an LGBT storyteller and the author of multiple bestselling MM romance novels. Born in the Southern United States, Casey is an avid tennis player, aspiring chef, dog lover, and ravenous consumer of gummy bears.
In Archer’s Redemption all the previous Main characters, are going about restoring and repairing the damage following the destruction and loss of life inflicted by Irina and Thorn. However Irina doesn’t go unscathed.
Now there is a new enemy, The One, and The Children (now Priests of The One) have infiltrated the towns and villages, trying to brainwash the people by offering them help to recover after the war. However, their main aim is to indoctrinate them to believe that The One should take precedence over the Crown.
Luckily, Declan now has all his Gifts, Aticus is trying to recover all his Mage Magic, Keelan has rescued Jessica and is taking her back to Fontaine to become the Queen. Ayden is awaiting Declan’s return from The Well. Jessica’s former boyfriend and traitor, Danmyn surfaces and approaches Jessica in the Palace, looking to resume their previous relationship.
It’s exciting and engrossing, old allies presumed lost, turn up again briefly and I wish they could be restored to their former self. I missed the banter between Orlaith and Declan.
Coming to end the end of Crown and Quills series, I think that all the Magic of the Mages that perished in that awful War between The Kingdom and Melucia, and also many of The Gifted Ones, all has been passed down to another Gifted One, this author.
The sheer scale of this whole series, the number of important characters, many of whom got their own POV Chapters, the descriptions of the aftermath of War, the Magical Powers and the Gifts and the imagination that went into creating this World, a huge piece of work, created by Casey Morales, Gifted with words, writing skills and an incredible imagination.
There is another book about Declan and Keelan’s childhood before they became a Ranger and an Investigator. I look forward to reading that one and finding out how it all started.
If you enjoy Fantasy World Genre, this Series will fulfil all your wishes or it can be an excellent introduction to newcomers to the genre, just as it was for me.
First, a spoiler free review: The world-building in this series is incredible, I genuinely love the locations, the dialects, and the history that is discussed. It feels like a living, breathing world.
From here on out, spoilers ahead. Be wary.
I want to love this book and series. A MM queer fantasy will top my wishlist forever… but this didn’t scratch the itch. This was a dialogue heavy book where the characters talk about things happening, and plan for the events to unfold for chapters, just to gloss over the details of said things actually happening in a paragraph or two.
The pattern seemed to be: minor cliff-hanger at chapter end, return to POV hours/days/weeks later, then a two-three sentence flashback of what transpired after the cliff-hanger. Where is the danger? Where is the suspense? Why am I reading dialogue and summaries about things occurring instead of living them?
I was willing to overlook a lot simply because I loved this world and plot concept, but in the end, the one thing that pissed me off more than anything else were the final two fights: Irina vs Danai, and Irina vs Declan and Atikus.
Irina vs Danai was over in 1 page after their stories consisted the bulk of the first 400. Worst yet, Irina won by snatching Danai’s crown off his head while he… *checks notes*… wasn’t paying attention.
And then comes the big Declan vs Irina moment. Why did a final showdown that took 4 books and 1500 pages of plot end in less than 2 pages?
Atikus, who has lived for centuries and has every magical power known to man, injures himself with shrapnel in friendly fire after his first move of throwing a throne at Irina.
Then, once Declan is left 1v1 with Irina, the showdown is over immediately once he… *checks notes again*… stabs her with his dagger while she is wiping her brow. There is no extra information on why she was distracted, how Declan got to her, or anything of the sort. I kid you not, this is pulled straight from the book:
“There was no sound, no movement, beyond the clattering of falling stone and settling of debris. Eventually, Irina breathed deeply and wiped her brow, adjusting the crown. When the point of my dagger tore out the front of her chest, she looked down, confused, as though her laces were in disarray. Then blood flowed across her chest. I withdrew the dagger, then dragged it across her throat.”
I just… wanted to love this series. But it came out disappointing in the end.
There's a lot going on in this finale of the Of Crowns & Quills series. Picking up after the defeat of Irina’s army and the sacrifice of the Phoenix we see the survivors try to pick up the pieces. Not surprisingly there are still threats to both the Kingdom of Spires and Melucia beyond the obvious threats that follow war. The evil which brought Irina back is still felt as The Children cling to their prophecy even as it is twisted to fit a new narrative that threatens the crown. The Melucian Triad is doing what it can to help the people and preserve magic after the destruction of Saltstone. Keelan is afraid that he'll not be able to redeem himself with Jess after his earlier actions. An attack on magic itself threatens both nations and it's up to Declan and the new Arch Mage to try to save it and restore the balance that existed before. Quite a spectacular conclusion to the series which I thoroughly enjoyed .

An intense prologue set a millennium in the past sets the stage for Casey Morales’s epic adventure set in an imaginary world. The four Archer novels are focused on the lives of orphaned brothers—Keelan Rea and his little brother Declan.
But that brief description hardly describes it. Declan is in fact the cover figure for the four Archer books—a young Forest Ranger in Melucia with untamed blond hair. It is his destiny that changes the course of history for his country and its neighbor, the Kingdom of Spires. But his big (age-wise and size-wise) brother Keelan, who is a celebrated lieutenant in the national constabulary (i.e. a detective, aided by his magical gift of truth-seeing), is of almost equal importance.
And that’s just the tip of the cast-of-characters iceberg. In “An Archer’s Awakening” we learn that Keelan and Declan were raised by the mages in Saltstone, capital of the Melucian Empire (a commercial empire with no monarch but a highly developed merchant class). In particular, Atikus Dan is a 1000-year-old mage who they see as their father. He is important. Then there’s Ayden Byrne, red-headed son of a merchant nobleman, who joins Declan’s class in the Rangers’ academy. Theirs is a classic hate-at-first sight romance that will thread its way throughout the four volumes of the series.
As for the Kingdom (as it is called), the crucial figures are Crown Princess Jessia Vester, a headstrong teenager and heir apparent. Her father Alfred and mother Isabel struggle with their daughter, who has the odd belief that she should, as heir, have some control over her life choices. Then there’s Danai Thorn, a sort of grand vizier (not that they use that term here), who is at least as old as Atikus Dani. He is pulling 1000-year-old strings unbeknownst to anyone in the royal family. This book is where we get to know more about the main characters and get a sense (aided by very useful maps) of the story’s setting.
You see, the Kingdom of Spires and Melucia have been peaceful trading partners for 1000 years. That is about to change as book 2, “An Archer’s Destiny” kicks off. Storm clouds are gathering on the horizon as Thorn’s long con—using Queen Isabel as his unwitting accomplice—begins to unfold. At the same moment, Declan Rea, who is beginning his pas-de-deux with Ayden Byrne, discovers something about himself that turns his world upside down. Declan has always been conscious that, in this nation of magical people, he is one of the minority who have been given no gift (i.e. no magic). He takes comfort that the aristocratic Ayden is, like him, ungifted.
By book 3, “An Archer’s Reckoning,” things get really ugly. Declan takes his place at the center of the narrative, but so does Queen Isabel, still unaware that she is being used as a pawn in a violent and deadly game. I note here that all of this sort of fiction derives, ultimately, from “The Lord of the Rings,” and by extrapolation from “Star Wars.” This is “The Empire Strikes Back,” if you will. This is the dark before the dawn. Princess Jessia ends up in the protection of Keelan Rea and Atikus Dani, the mage who raised him. I found this book distressing to read, and it left me almost desperate for something positive. Of course, that pretty much guaranteed that I’d start reading book 4 immediately.
In book 4, “An Archer’s Redemption,” as the title suggests, the tide begins to turn. There is more violence, and some shocking surprises, but the power of the good magic, with Declan at the center of things, begins to offer us some hopeful light.
Casey Morales is no J.R.R. Tolkien; but he is nonetheless a strong, compelling writer, who knows how to stir action into a heart-stopping wave. He does not have the kind of beautiful language that would have pushed the book to five stars, and he also resorts to the genre’s requirement for on-page sex, which I found to be a distraction rather than a bonus. I am rooting for Ayden and Declan, truly; but I would have been happy to let their physical relationship blossom in my imagination.
All in all, a powerful, emotional, and worthwhile series. There are two other prequel type volumes, but these four are the essential pieces in visiting this fantasy world. I read them all at once. It was a good choice.
Gosh I wanted to ADORE this series so bad. So much potential, yet the storyline and the plot felt only part cooked.
I loved the “not totally in your face” gay storyline, but the entirety of book one focused on this without any real need for it in the rest of the books. That whole plot became nothing but smut, and I am saddened by that gay representation. I was really hoping that there’d be more…actual relationship building between the two men but leaving it as “damn we have incredible sex any time we meet up - we should get married” at the end? Not believable OR healthy.
I loved Jess’ storyline though - in the end, she’s my favorite. Amazing character growth, loved her love story with Keelan, loved her strength.
I thoroughly enjoyed the accents with the narrators - (I did the audiobook with all 4 books) absolute superb performances all around!
I was really annoyed that Tiana didn’t have more of a story even though I love Jess and Keelan (although Jess is still only 17…). I swear she was never given a proper portion of the book that mentioned how she died - until this book in the form of memory. I feel gaslit. lol. Anyone else get confused with what had happened to Tiana?
I was so excited about the idea of religious zeal going up against the crown. But it feels like the author was nervous about how to handle that sort of plot so he took the easy way out with Irina killing Danai all of a sudden. Comes out of nowhere and I did like the scene of their battle itself. But it was too fast. Would have been cooler if there was more build up. In a 4 book series, there was ample time to do that.
I needed to be a much bigger battle between Irina and Danai. Dania ended up looking like a wimp
I want it said that I respect this author a lot. He captivated me in these books. I just finished devouring the book feeling so hungry still.

This book is the conclusion of an epic adventure combining magic, politics, passion and humor. I loved this series. From beginning to end, you're kept on the edge of your seat by the adventures of the various characters, each advancing in their own way in different facets of the story and the plot.
I really enjoyed the evolution of the characters and their relationships. This volume comes to a climax for several characters, including Jess, Keelan and Atikus. These three characters play an important part in this final volume and are crucial to the story's outcome. They've been battered, not just in this volume but since the beginning of the story, and they're very rich and fascinating characters.
The universe is rich and captivating. I'd love to read more adventures in this same universe. There are still so many lands hinted at but not explored, and questions left a little open.
Florida author Casey Morales continues to impress with his new series – ‘Of Crowns and Quills’ – entering a new territory for him, fantasy/fable/colorful mystery. To date Casey has excelled in his many MM books set in contemporary time as well as historical time, able to develop intoxicating romances that step beyond the norm into a higher level of relationship development. Now, in AN ARCHER’S REDEMPTION (Book 4 of this series) we again enter the Melucian Empire, and the realms of magic, warfare, family, mystery, and mystical creatures weave an irresistible tapestry.
The plot is complex, but adeptly delivered. Casey’ summary distills it well: ‘A new love awakens. Dark forces stir. The world stands on the brink of war. The Battle of Saltstone is won. The people live. Kingdom armies are retreating in disarray. And Irina is dead. Or is she? A new darkness rises, one with shifting faces no one sees coming. This time, its goal is not the people of the land; it is magic itself. Declan, Keelan, Atikus, and the rest face threats from every direction. If they fail, so will the Gift, robbing generations of magic and the world of its freedom.’ The powerful epic journey concludes, delivered with romance, tension, and wit – as Casey Morales winningly achieves in this excellent series. Highly recommended for all readers – with or without the steam of MM romance!
DNF 41%. I gave it my best but couldn't finish this book. Once you dread reading a book, you know it's time to move on.
I want to make it clear that it wasn't the overall story or the writing exactly, but the POV switching and the number of POVs in this entire series are just exhausting. You never really get the time to bond with the characters, but once you feel like you're starting to, you're whisked away to another storyline. It's very frustrating. There are entire POVs that just did not need to be there, and with the introduction of a brand new character in the final book, enough was enough.
Plus, the pull of a m/m romance as a feature of this story would make you think it would be more front and center. Nope, you barely spend any time with the couple. Less than half the chapters are about the couple, so their romance seems rushed throughout the series.
I liked the magic system and the plot, but the cast of characters we get in POV chapters is just too much for the length of the book, honestly. This isn't Game of Thrones. I really wanted to finish this story after so much time invested in it, but like I said, once you start to get frustrated with it more than it brings you enjoyment, something's gotta give.
An Archer’s Redemption is the final book in the “Of Crowns & Quills” series. Reading these books in order will provide you with an epic adventure full of war, struggles with love, and magical moments you will not soon forget.
The final book in the series offers the ending of the war and the beginning of a new world where the two brothers Keelan and Declan, have faced danger and have overcome many obstacles that threatened their entire existence and those they love. They have defeated the enemy with much sacrifice but have survived and achieved the well-deserted happy-ever-after.
Previous books have established an intricate web of relationships, where trust is often tested, and the consequences of betrayal loom large. With intricate narratives and compelling characters. Blending themes of power, loyalty, betrayal, catastrophic battles, and strategic deceptions.
Building up to 'An Archer’s Redemption', the stakes heighten dramatically, setting the context for a momentous finale. As 'An Archer’s Redemption' closes, it beckons readers, to reflect on its legacy and envision the future possibilities in the 'Of Crowns & Quills' world.
Casey Morales did not disappoint me. Book No. 4 is fantastic, brilliant and unforgettable. I really enjoyed this series. And I really can't say goodbye to it. I couldn't put this book down, I read it until 2am, just had to know how this was going to end. The story of Jess, now queen, and Keelan, who has come from far away and becomes king. Jess, who we get to know as a young girl who runs away from her responsibilities, is now a young woman with the tough task of bringing her empire back to prosperity after a war. And she does very well, along with Keelan's help. Irina is also there, full of hatred, she tries to regain her power. And she makes many victims. And when all seems lost, Declan and Atikus come to the rescue, but the price is high. In addition to the sadness of losing so many loved ones, there is also the hope that two peoples can live side by side in peace and that magic will be protected and preserved. And Atikus must also make a sacrifice. Declan and Ayden's relationship deepens. Seth and Liam were also guys that I loved. And what made me happy was that Orla was back. Yes, magic really is back. Beautiful books, highly recommended.
In An Archer's Redemption, the thrilling finale of the Of Crowns & Quills series, Casey Morales delivers a powerful conclusion filled with magic, adventure, and romance. Picking up after the defeat of Irina’s army, the story finds Declan, Keelan, and their allies trying to rebuild in the face of lingering threats. Irina’s spirit still looms, with the cult known as the Children twisting prophecies to fit their dark ambitions, threatening both Melucia and the Kingdom of Spires. As the characters face personal and epic struggles, magic itself comes under siege, adding a fresh urgency to the plot. The story masterfully ties together the journeys of Declan, Ayden, Jess, and Keelan in an epic adventure of love and redemption. As a final installment, it brilliantly captures the essence of epic fantasy: vast landscapes, perilous journeys, and sacrifices that resonate deeply. Casey has crafted an enchanting conclusion filled with love, loss, and hard-won redemption, making An Archer's Redemption a standout finish to an unforgettable series.

This is one of the better stories I have read. The epic adventure is stretched over several books and I couldn't wait for the next book in the series every time one book entered. The characters were amazing. They ranged from people you would love to know to totally evil and selfish people who would discard human life as easily as throwing a piece of garbage in the bin. The plot was fast and slow in places which helped in telling the story. Even the most evil character had a sympathetic beginning. I hated to see this story end. The author could do much more with other characters and expand the story line. All in all, I found this series an amazing read with many ups and downs. I'm so relieved for the happily ever after in the end. Good grammar and punctuation made for a quick and enjoyable reading experience. I would recommend this series to anyone who likes a good adventure.
An Archer’s Redemption is the fourth and final book in the Of Crowns & Quills series. In this conclusion to the series, Declan, Ayden, Jess and Keelan must ban together to bring the world back to rights.
I have enjoyed this series from the beginning even though I am not a huge fantasy fan and was definitely satisfied with this ending. This book was quick to get through and action packed. I loved revisiting this world and seeing how the conclusion to this great series wrapped up. I enjoyed the main characters and thought they really drove this series and am sad to say goodbye to them. The writing and world building in this series is amazing and I felt like I was there right along with our heroes. The ending of this book made me so happy and I love how everything was tried up. This series does need to be read in order, so if this one sounds interesting start from the beginning of the series. You won’t be disappointed!
The finale of an epic journey, this was wonderfully written and the world building has be truly exceptional. For me, it was more a fantastic adventure, with a grand scale and loads of political intrigue than a romance, as Declan and Ayden are separated so often across the series. I would have love more time for romance personally, but I appreciate that the author was able to give Declan and Ayden a satisfying ending - even if I would have loved more time for being together. I also enjoyed seeing the main characters really grow to understand their power, the character development across the series was truly excellent. The whole series is wonderfully written and expertly executed, especially if you love high drama and fantasy.

An Archer's Redemption is the thrilling, emotional conclusion to the Of Crowns & Quills series, and it didn’t disappoint. Casey Morales masterfully combines epic fantasy, high-stakes adventure, and a powerful romance that ties it all together. The battle for magic, the rising darkness, and the fight to save the world create a tense, gripping plot, but it’s the character development and the deepening relationships that really stood out. Declan and Keelan’s romance is toe-curling and heartfelt, adding an extra layer of intensity to an already epic tale. The stakes feel impossibly high, and the pacing keeps you on the edge of your seat. With twists, danger, and plenty of emotional payoff, this book is a perfect end to a fantastic series. Fans of epic fantasy and m/m romance won’t want to miss it!.

This refers to the audiobook version. A very satisfying end to this epic fantasy series. I read all of the previous stories (including the shorts) in one go a few months ago and was eagerly awaiting this final chapter. It took a bit of concentration and brainpower to get back into the flow of the vast storylines and the many voices and characters represented in different chapters. But once my head was back in the game I was completely invested. The aftermath of the crippling war was devastating to all of our characters and it took a long time for each storyline to resolve. There were even some new characters introduced in this volume. It is too convoluted to try to highlight even a simple part of the story so I will end by saying that I really enjoyed this series and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys high fantasy. Narrated with aplomb by Carmen Rose and Kenn Peterson.
This series has been so good!! I have loved being captured in this world of fantasy, paranormal magic, love, mystery and intrigue...then the betrayal, lies, and deceit of the villains was beyond what I would imagine would be written. I am still trying to grasp some of those things...I have experience happiness, sadness at times and heartbreak I even needed a kleenex...( great job Casey!!) But LOVED every emotions!!! The characters some I absolutely adored and loved, some...well so glad to see them "disappear " and others sad to see them go...so going to miss reading and catching up with these people....grab these books and get lost in this world.. highly recommend these books!!.

With the defeat of Irina’s army, now is the time for Declan and Keelan to try to rebuild while still dealing with threats since Irina’s spirit still is causing trouble. The ancient cult based in the village of Irina’s Seat, known as The Children, twist prophecies to fit their own evil ambitions and pose a threat to both Melucia and the Kingdom of Spires. Most dangerous of all, magic is threatened and must be protected at all costs. Everything depends on what Declan, Ayden, Jessia (the new Queen of the Spires), and Keelan can accomplish in this exhilirating epic of love and redemption. Can they succeed or will darkness return and take over their world?
The final of the series is finally here and boy oh boy is it a tumultuous ride!
Our heroes are recovering and building anew from the devastation and loss left behind from Irina and Thorn’s war whether it is houses or friendships, even new relationships…
There are some new faces, a new psychotic leader for The Children, a benevolent evil wandering spirit, horrifyingly gruesome murders by animals and an old flame will resurface to add to their turmoil!
Declan and Aiden will once again be separated but hopefully not for long…
There will once again be devastating losses in their quest to banish evil for good but will conclude with a beautiful ending!

This is the culmination of a series, so you must read the first three books before this one. There is plenty of action and adventure and a satisfactory ending. But this is a fantasy set in another world and not a standard romance. There is blood and gore and destruction and misery. There is also amazing family love and peacemaking. And our two main men continue their hot connection whenever they manage to meet up. Declan more or less saves the world and magic, but Ayden finds his purpose, too. I was glad to see him do his own thing and glad to see the two of them get some time to themselves on their island. Good end to the series, with the possibility for more to come. I received an ARC for free via BookSirens and left this review voluntarily and happily.
I can’t recommend this book enough. Even if you are only interested in the fantasy aspect and not the MM. There is actually very little MM contact if you know what I mean and there is also MF romance so don’t be put off reading this excellent series because of what is a small part of the story.
The world building is terrific and especially the aspect of the back and forth between the countries. I don’t want to give anything away but there is a lot more going on that only becomes evident as the whole story progresses and Casey Morales is great at feeding us clues slowly. I want to read the whole thing again and try to catch what he has written in there that I didn’t pick up on the first time. A very magical tale.
This one dragged a little bit for me. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I wanted Declan to get his HEA, and I wanted the annoying bratty spirit queen to get out of the way, because seriously, she’s annoying, but it just felt longer than the others. I loved all of them, but this one was… a little too long, dragging too much of what already had happened and kind of revisiting the same things with a new twist. I think that if it were a little shorter I might have enjoyed it more, but most likely it’s because I was annoyed with some characters and wanted to get rid of them faster, and I was very invested in Dec’s HEA, and my impatience got in the way of a good story. I’m looking forward to reading more by this author for sure!
This the last of the boons of the Of Crowns & Quills series was the icing on the cake.
The author brings all the strands together to an amazing climax. Where good overcimes darkness.
The author magically brings the journey of Declan and Aydan together , jess and keelan and liam and seth.
The danger posed by ireana and the ,new order threaten everyone but declan and aitcus strive to banish ireana from ever been a threat again. The book as ever is full of ups and downs just like a major rollercoaster. There are times when as a reader you can't wait to turn the bext page and other times you delay turning that page.
When it's over your feel bereft but the journey to the end is spectacular.
Wow! Wow! Wow! What a ride. My heart was pounding, I was on the edge of my seat and I could barely breathe at times. Other times, I sighed or laughed. This book finds our heroes, Declan and Ayden visiting with Declan's mother, enjoying life. But things are not peaceful as Irina's spirit is still causing issues. Keelan, Declan's brother travels to meet up with Jess, the new Queen of the Spires. And the remnants of the cult, the Children, are working to take over. In this book, author Casey Morales has created a world of magic and myth, populated with memorable characters. In reminds me, in ways, of Lord of the Rings in scope. I truly loved this series and this ending was powerful.
As Irina's spirit roams free, Declan must go back and try to vanquish her. Danai finds her crown and tries to take over through the Children. It's a wrap up of everyone's stories, Jess and Keelan's, Declan and Ayden's, Irina, Danai and Atikus. A truly epic adventure ends in this book, at least for now, who can say? Casey wrote an amazing fantasy filled with magic, adventure and love. A fantasy of saving the world with kingdoms rising and falling, the return of magic to the world, a new beginning and HEAs for the deserving. I truly enjoyed this series, the fantasy and the romance. I received a copy of this book through Booksprout and this is my voluntary opinion.
But a fine wrap-up of a couple of really annoying storylines. The author has hinted at more in the future. OK, well, maybe a little less melodrama next time. It wears thin. A lot of the characters are compelling & interesting, so maybe counterpoints to the "happy happy" could be just as well crafted. It's fantasy. The strokes can be broad. I found too many borrowings from other well-known book (& subsequently TV) series detracted from the originality of what was a great idea. However, despite finding it hard to wade through some of the chapters, this series is a pretty good read & I know many will love it.
This is the final book of the series & it blew me away. Without adding spoilers, the war is over & everyone is trying to rebuild. After her family was killed by Irina , she makes it back home to become the new Queen. She reunites with Keelan, he helps her get grounded. Declan & Atticus are trying to find Irina's spirit, she is still causing havoc & needs to be put to "rest". Ayden goes back home to help Melucia get their town up & running. I was offered a free copy & am giving my honest opinion.
A thrilling and happy end to Declan and Ayden's story. We get a lot of closure for the characters we've been following for several books, most of them in a nice way. There's a fair bit of action since the story has reached the final battles against Irina. The world building in the series is done really well and I liked being able to dive in deeper over the books. I was sad to see so much separation between Declan and Ayden in this book, but it does make the ending even sweeter. Overall a fun read.
I’m not a huge fantasy reader, so for a series in this genre to grab and hold my attention, it has to be exceptional—and this one absolutely is. The adventure, magic, and rich storytelling pulled me in from the very first book and kept me invested through every installment.
If you’re hesitant about diving into fantasy, give this series a try. It’s an unforgettable journey that proves a good story transcends genres. I’ve loved every single book.
