I thoroughly enjoyed reading this third book of The First Beaufont series.

Gen and Emperor are going through hard times right now. They know that the boss of the Rogue Riders, Dwayne Stone, is doing everything possible to rid himself of them.

Gen doesn't understand why he hates them so much, but is doing everything possible to keep her place with the Riders, despite the seemingly impossible tasks he keeps setting her.

Gen also knows that Commissioner Charlie Sloane is behind the worst of the crimes happening throughout Los Angeles and, also, the efforts to have her accused and imprisoned for a grand felony, that would have her locked away in the House of Fourteen's Prison.

But, when they discover that Charlie
is going to use a piece of stolen Magitech, in order to change the thinking processes of all the people of the City, they know that, no matter what, they have to stop him.

Luckily for them, they have great friends, and family members, willing to advise them, and point them in the right direction.

I have to admit that I'm finding it hard, having to wait between books, for the next one to arrive. I've got so used to being able to read a complete series, with all the books completed, that I'm not used to having to wait.

Luckily for me, and all the many fans of Sarah Noffke's books, she's an amazing writer, who can almost churn out books on demand - I'm joking, of course - but Sarah does her best to not keep us waiting for TOO long, in between books! Lol

I told her the other day that I really want to reread every single book that she's published, once more but, due to an ever growing TBR pile, it's impossible right now, so I'll just have to keep waiting, like everyone else, for the next book of this great series to come out, which is Book Four: The Medieval Misfit', which she has planned to publish on the 9th of August - not too long to wait! Lol

So, now I've finished this, I'm back on to my TBR pile, where I'm trying to read every single one of Martha Carr's books - a seemingly unending task, as she's as prolific a writer as Sarah is! Lol

But I'm determined, so I'm off to start reading Book One of Goth Drow Unleashed: 'Strange and Unusual'.

Once I have, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!

Monologues for $500, Please…

Now bear in mind that I gave this book 5 stars for very good reasons which I’ll get to in a moment, after I tease our author gently: there are several sections where Sarah’s love for the character comes through as a repetition reaffirming Gen’s resolve, monologues, if you will. It’s kinda sweet, actually.

But this episode really stands out for how it ties everything together. There have been several, and one in particular, points in the storyline that didn’t seem to fit, and we finally learn that Gen was paying attention the entire time and now it all makes sense.

Beyond that, Sarah shares some beautiful thoughts and descriptions of her own in Gen and Emporers’ musings:

“…every hero needs a villain to fight. We don’t grow in the presence of rainbows. We delight in them. But a hero evolves in the storms. It’s in learning how to navigate through treacherous winds that legends are born.”

“And that is the difference between heroes and villains. The first truly loves themselves, whereas the latter truly loathes themselves.” “You’re right,” she said. “Which is why we must be understanding to the criminals of the world. They’re in pain. They are battling themselves.”

And finally:

They may be compassionate to the evil ones out there, but that didn’t mean they’d allow them to harm the innocent.

Or as an old mentor of mine was fond of saying: “Being loving, and harmless does not mean being a doormat.”

OMG! I could not put this down. Gen and Emperor have definitely made enemies and now they are turning on her and trying to set up her up to take the fall. Now they may not be from this century but they are not stupid enough to fall for this baloney and neither are their friends but they must let it play out and let the chips fall so that they can sort out who is actually involved. This warrior and her dragon may be misplaced and not from this century but she will stand up and fight for the people of LA and with a little help from their friends, save the day and move on to the next problem.

3 books - 4 days of entertainment

Like the first two books in the series this was a compelling read that made it very hard to take time out to study.
Thankfully the 4th in the series is still a couple or three weeks away so I might get some study done in the meantime.

Also - probably need to clean up the house a bit - ooh, look, a book...

One down, another to go

Gen and her friends are working on figuring out who killed the police commissioner and what the new one is trying to accomplish by framing her for a crime she did not commit. They will also need to find out his new plans for Los Angeles and stop him. I enjoy all the Beaufont series and always look forward to more of their stories.

As usual, villains fall flat on their face

This part of the life story is a developmental step in why Gen and General are here and now. Also, what part they will play in protecting not just LA.

I enjoyed the Story line, and that she is such a 'kick-ass' women, however I really find some of the constant repeating of background, how much she loves family, it just feels like I sped through/tried to skip this constant 'refrain' in almost every chapter. I have to say if this continues in next book I may not be able to get to the end. It felt like 'fillers' to make the book meet number of 'words' requirement which is frustrating when you just want to read and get into the story.

The base story lines a great, just stop all this 'filler' info all the time please.................

Commissioner Charlie Slone wants Gen Beaufont out of his way so he can control Los Angeles. He can’t kill her, so he plans to frame her for larceny and thief.

Bellumferrum is a very cool, useful object/weapon. But I could have done without the pages and chapters of fluff between taking out the transmitters. Though it did allow me to skim past it and finish the book faster. Also, what were the other cities around LA doing while this was all happening?

Fave scenes: Bermuda’s creatures, Live defending Gen to Dwayne, the bookworm and destroying the fourth tower.
