The cross stands at the heart of the Christian faith. There Christ bore the penalty for our sins. He defeated Satan, he set the ultimate example of how to love others, and he brings us with him through death to newness of life. Like the pieces of a jigsaw, these aspects of Christs work fit together to form a single glorious picture. In this punchy little book, Sach and Jeffery explore each element in turn, uncovering biblical themes that are sometimes neglected. We are brought face to face with the glory of the cross.
Wanted to read more books on the theology of the cross and had this one to hand. Was overall helpful as it is jam packed with scripture, but I am still on the look out for a more in depth book on this topic (if anyone has some suggestions?) :)
Very helpful and readable book covering the key truths about the Cross, well supported by passages of scripture, which is at the centre of our Christian faith. Ideal for personal or group study.
(4.5) Why did Jesus die on the cross? This short book explores 4 angles of just why.
I don’t know how it manages to do so much in just 45 pages. Packed full of Bible references, you get a canon-wide explanation which gives you great confidence in how the whole Bible points to the necessity of Jesus’ death in our place.
You get some good church history thrown in too which gives good contexts and pushback to some of the penal substitution objections in the church today.
I think this book is brilliant. I guess it’s Goodreads rating is lower than it should be because it’s short.
This is a wonderfully concise book on the cross of Christ. This would be a good one to hand out to new believers or folks wanting to know more about the gospel.
Clear, concise and biblical. But perhaps too short and dry. It's hard to determine the appropriate audience - it's not very engaging for new/lite readers and not in-depth enough for more serious students.
