Catching a vigilante sounds simple… until you find out that vigilante is your soulbound.
Aravenna Kalladine isn’t just used to keeping secrets; she is one. Publicly, she’s the jilted heir of the world’s largest anti-magic arms company, as Mortal as her late parents and those they protected from dangerous Immortals. But privately, Ara’s guarding a truth that could bring that legacy crumbling she has magic. And when a shipment of dangerous weaponry is stolen, she’s forced to put her secret at risk—so long as nobody sees her face.
Detective Graydon Marr doesn’t believe the rumours. Tasked with recovering Kalla Technologies’ missing weapons, he doesn’t have time to worry about spark-wielding vigilantes. But when he comes face-to-mask with the woman herself, something deeper than intrigue clicks between them. The vigilante is his soulbound—a rare, fated love Graydon’s spent centuries believing he wouldn’t find. Even worse? She’s a suspect.
As the two navigate the treacherous snows of Veilfall, a city of clashing magic and deadly tech, their search for the missing weapons not only reveals a terrorist plot, but pulls them closer. What starts as a flirtatious game of cat-and-mouse soon builds to a high-stakes pursuit fuelled by feelings they can no longer ignore. But if Graydon wants to learn his soulbound’s identity, he must confront his loyalties and earn her trust. And if Ara wants to finally shed the scars of her clandestine childhood and get her happy ending, she’ll have to face the hardest question of all:
Author of Spark of Pursuit, a tale of inconvenient soulmates.
It’s no surprise that growing up, Annika’s dad referred to her as an “indoor cat.” Either lost in the pages of a romance novel or writing frantic notes on magic systems, she lives and breathes stories—particularly if there’s a hot love interest to sweeten the deal!
Annika spends her days writing with her two cats in Vancouver, British Columbia.
I loved the MC's budding romance, very slow burn with lots of sexual tension
The magic system was fun! It actually reminded me a lot of unOrdinary (a webtoon) they have a similar feeling magic system with completely different characters, but the plot has a lot of similarities specifically the whole Flame Keepers group trying to take the power/magic away from immortals
The main character, Aravenna Kalladine is a vigilante of sorts and her parents have an anti-magic weaponry company (kinda like Spectre in unOrdinary except, Spectre was more like the Flame Keepers; they're kidnaping and testing on immortals with the anit-magic tech they stole). I loved this concept!
I thought Ara's decision-making was awful, it got to the point where I was literally screaming at her, in my head, to tell him who she was, it was beyond annoying, which was revealed around 94% ish
Overall, I'm so so excited for the next book, I can't wait to see where the story goes!!

This is a must read! This is urban fantasy at its finest. This book is refreshingly unique in both its fantasy world and its plotline. I can truthfully say I’ve never read anything quite like it. It blends fantasy with crime fighting and mystery, and I loved every moment of it!
The story follows a cop and a vigilante who discover they are fated mates while investigating a terrorist plot. This sets off a tension filled cat-and-mouse chase, with magic and technology clashing around them.
The FMC is our powerful vigilante, while the grumpy, brooding MMC is our cop. I connected immediately with the FMC because she’s a total badass, and I appreciated the strong female empowerment portrayed. The world building and setting are presented in a way that is easily understood, and the setting itself is intriguing and distinct. The supporting characters are earnest and quirky, and the reading pace is fast and engaging.
This book is a 5/5 ⭐️ read for me
I was given an ARC copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
I was fortunate enough to receive this arc (thanks Annika!) and I’m already itching to reread it. Something I loved about this book was how the magical world and the fantasy elements were introduced in an easy and approachable way. While the elements were complex, Snow introduced them in a way that a novice fantasy reader could easily understand. Another aspect of this book that I loved was how relationship-driven it was. The characters were all written so beautifully that I couldn’t help but grow to love them, including the many side characters! This book is a perfect example of why I love this genre. The second book can't come fast enough!!
Oh. My. God. ANNIKA SNOW HOW AM I MEANT TO WAIT UNTIL 2025 FOR BOOK TWO???
Holy crap. This is such a good book. It has romance, it has fantasy, it has magic, IT HAS SOULMATES!
I will admit that before my devoted book reading days, I… perused tumblr. And soulmate au’s were always my favorite and there is a reason! They are superior. They are amazing. And they make for great angst lol.
Anyway, I can gush and gush and gush about this book over and over again (and I shall just watch my instagram for it), but let me name WHY this is a 9.5/10 for me.
The world is so good. I hope in Book 2 or perhaps if Snow decides to expand into this same world, we get to see Cirindil because I think the dichotomy of both of these worlds existing (Veilfall vs Cirinidil) would be so interested to read. We know what Veilfall looks like, I SO want to see life in Cirindil.
The characters, not just the MCs, are incredibly lovable and although the magic system was a main draw for me coming into the book, it is not carrying the book. There is so much potential for more magic to be explained in depth. I love the supporting cast and each and every single one of them is great, except Daryx, little piece of poop coward.
The ONLY reason this isn’t a 10/10 for me is because I was a tad confused at some portions (which were later explained but it felt like it might have been needed sooner) and for my own personal preference that I’m not a big fan of miscommunication tropes.
Which… in a book where a masked vigilante is soulmates with a cop who doesn’t know her real identity… is going to happen. Often. It almost felt like a tease from the author. This isn’t a fault of how the author writes or anything, but when there is heavy miscommunication, I feel the need to mark it to be known.
I would highly recommend this book, the writing is amazing, the world is intriguing, the characters are lovable and I cannot wait to see what is in store for Book 2, not only to see Graydon and Ara come back to us but for the rest of the interesting and captivating plot.
edit:
I forgot to say that I received this book as an ARC or Advanced Reader’s Copy in exchange for my honest review, which is above.
I have quite literally never read anything like this 🤯 Annika Snow you absolutely blew my mind 🥹
The beginning of the book is very unassuming. Some things that seem important are unceremoniously revealed in the first few pages and it might make you doubt that there will be any surprises, yearning or plot… but LET ME TELL YOU!!!! that is the magic of it 🥹because once you hit around 100ish pages, things start to get reeeeeally interesting and you.will.be.hooked!!
Think comic book/superhero vigilante meets fated mates vibes, and a plot & twists SO INSANELY GOOD you'll be on the edge of your seat non stop! 💥 That cliffhanger ending though 😭😭😭 most painful cruel one I’ve read to date !! Never has any author done me so incredibly dirty 😤
I gobbled up the whole book so fast I don’t even remember what else I did with my time 🤭
This book is for you if you’re looking for :
💜Superhero meets fated mates ✨Banter galore 💜Meet cute ✨*Trying really hard to be but kinda definitely miserably failing to be* ennemies to lovers 💜Scrumptious delicious yearning and tension ✨Forced proximity 💜Grumpy sunshines ✨PLOT-TWISTS FOR DAYS !!!! 💜Amazing magic system ✨One of a kind EVERYTHING 💜Awesome side characters
This book was such a refreshing change in the Romantasy genre, mixing urban fantasy with crime fighting and superpowers!✨ This is perfect for fans of Batman, The Incredibles and Crescent City! I seriously couldn’t stop reading and and found myself smiling from ear to ear with the fun banter-filled dialogues. ❤️
No one would ever guess that the heir to a renowned anti-magic arms company is a badass vigilante at night. Not only that, she carries a huge secret: she’s the only immortal in her family with magic. 💪🏻When a shipment of dangerous weapons goes missing, she comes face to face with Detective Graydon Marr, who has SparkleGirl as a suspect and is assigned to bring her in. GAH the banter!! It’s an enemies-to-lovers vibe filled with want. ❤️ these two keep setting traps for each other while fighting an intense desire to be together. Not only that, the plot was intriguing, with great pacing and a brewing rebellion, mortals VS immortals and all the while Ara is doing undercover work at her own company to find out who the mole is.
I will have to check out all the works by this author because I’m hooked!
What you can expect: ✨enemies to lovers ✨banter filled dialogues ✨cat-and-mouse chase ✨cop VS vigilante ✨hidden identities ✨magical superpowers ✨fated mates (soulbounds)
I was lucky enough to receive an ARC copy of this book before it's officially out. Such a wonderful author debut. Fast paced, easy to read, immediately invested and hooked. Am I mad that I don't have the second book right now even though I was warned that it ends on a cliffhanger? Absolutely. Would I recommend it still? You bet I would.
I was incredibly lucky as to receive an Advanced Reader Copy of Spark of Pursuit from Annika Snow, and for that I’m so grateful! Spark of Pursuit is an Urban fantasy romance that’s paced perfectly, the romance is definitely slow (or as slow as a soulbound romance can get) while the action is still consistently rising. Every time you think you might get bored you discover another reason to keep reading, and while you don’t want the story to end, all you want is to find out how it’s concluded. If you’re looking for a book that’s going to introduce you to fantasy, this is the book for you!!
“The Bond. It was a magical link between two people that went deeper than romantic love or desire. One soul, split down the middle and doomed to spend a lifetime searching for its other half.”
Aravenna Kalladine She’s is the epitome of a strong and humorous main character. Her aptitude to make every situation comical and not feel repetitive is astonishing. Her character has so much depth and is almost impossible to hate even though she’s always making erratic and beyond frustrating decisions.
Graydon Marr If you love an MMC who is seemingly devoted to good but frequently toes the line of morally grey, then you’ll love Graydon. So much of his personality is displayed in what he does rather than says, which I admire in characters. With each of his chapters you discover a little more about him whilst still seeking to uncover his past.
Edryd Serell Ed absolutely embodies the funny side character, with every thing he says and does being completely unserious. Even with his constant playful nature, he is unwaveringly loyal. He clearly cares a lot, and when he does it’s with his whole heart.
Brynn & Melica Aetheras Mel and Brynn are THE grumpy sunshine couple and personally I love them for it!! I *might* love them even more than Ara and Graydon and I absolutely need a book about them, actually I think I need a book about every character now that I think of it.
Coren Kalladine I don’t think I could leave him out even if I wanted to. His and Ara’s relationship was beautiful and showed so much growth by the end. He absolutely gives off big brother even though he’s the younger one and I loved it. Also really loved his relationship with Rimiron.
Norlan Wakes This character had so much potential and that should have been a dead giveaway but it wasn’t and I applaud Annika for that. It didn’t even hit me till they were at the cafe. There’s so much more to say about his character but I don’t want to give too much away.
For anyone who likes to know tropes before going into a book these are some of the most prominent ones:
fated mates
touch her/him and die
vigilante/cop
cat and mouse
3rd person dual pov
To wrap it all, Annika’s writing has plenty of room to grow (like any new author) but she has a strong style and is phenomenal at writing characters. Only one character(Darix) in this book fell flat most of the time but other than that she did a wonderful job at writing a lot of main characters and they all felt incredibly real. I would also love to see more of this world outside of what we saw of Veilfall. I love this book and I think anyone who loves an easy fantasy read will fall in love with this book as well. All in all, I’d rate this book a 4.5 because it does have a little room to grow for the next book, but still without a doubt I loved it.
I was so lucky to get this ARC in exchange for an honest review and HONESTLYYYYY this might be one of my fave reads of 2024 💕
THE TENSION WAS TENSIONING!!! I'm such a sucker for anything enemies to lovers and this book ate that up. And throw in a lil mystery???? With a dash of magic????? This book was literally made for me (AND YOU 🫵🏽) It's so well written, the plot moves a great pace, and the development of the mystery had me on the edge of my seat the entire time🙂↕️
Ms Annika Snow you did that! I can’t wait for the sequel 🫶🏽 (no really I can’t wait you should drop it now :))
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. This was honestly such a fun and fast paced read. The world was so intriguing. This world is divided into two: mortals with no magic and immortals with magic. It has the two main things I love in a fantasy; enemies to lovers and forced proximity. The humour in this book 👌🏻👌🏻 I’d highly recommend this book to anyone who loved books like red queen, powerless and once upon a broken heart.
I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of this book from the author. Thank you, Annika. I did enjoy the story, I liked the world, and it was fast-paced. Did it consume me? Yes, did it frustrate me? Also, yes. I'm aiming for 3.5 -4 stars? Wish goodreads would allow .5 stars, and I will definitely read the 2nd book.
* Got an ARC copy in exchange of an honnest review *
Wasn't going into this book expecting much but the summary/ plot description was intriguing. To say I fell in love with the characters, the universe and the love story wouldn't be an overstatement, I devoured that book, going to bed too late because I couldn't stop. It was a refreshing take on the Hunter vs Hunted trope, the tension between the fated mates is very well done, the political undertone kept me on edge trying to guess who was behind it. Highly recommend the first installment of the Veilfall saga.
Firstly, wanted to say thank you to Annika Snow for letting me join the ARC team for the book! I received an ARC for Spark of Pursuit in exchange for an honest review 🥰
This book was super easy to get into and as the book went on, I found that everything about it flowed super well! There wasn't one scene in the book that I thought didn't belong in there. Everything blended well and went beautifully together. I was definitely sceptical of a couple of the characters in the first half of the book due to the mystery introduced at the beginning but as it went on I was trying so hard to narrow down in my head who or what it might be or if any of the characters were working together
I actually really enjoyed the magic system within the book and I also liked the tech aspect as well which is a lot coming from a person who really isn't into much tech-y stuff when it comes to books or shows/movies. I lean towards reading first person pov books compared to third person, but with that being said, I actually throughly enjoyed this book being in third person and honestly didn't even notice it was 3rd person until maybe 40% of the way through the book.
The world building was introduced and explained to the readers at a perfect pace, so learning about Vielfall, Kalla Technologies, and the magic system were super easy and I didn't find myself getting confused. To me, the book was equally character and plot driven so I enjoyed the balance very much!
I also enjoyed the dual pov between the two main characters, Aravenna Kalladine and Graydon Marr, I thought that was a nice touch so we get to see both characters a bit more in depth compared to if it was one pov and maybe getting a little boring. I loved Ara and Graydon, but I personally found myself liking Graydon more out of the two of them!
I really love a good slow burn romance and let me tell you, the tension between Graydon and Ara just kept growing more and more anytime they interacted in the story and I was almost clawing at my kindle for more at one point!!! Internally I was screaming just kiss already!!!! Graydon had me kicking my feet in the air like a little girl when he said "And now you're stuck with me, so you should probably get used to it"🤭
I appreciated that the book had a little bit of spice / spicy elements because sometimes when a book has too much spice, it can just over power the book overall and take away from everything else. I was also into Ara having a bit of a secret identity (from Graydon)and that they were in a cat and mouse chase with one another. Ara really made me wanna have iridescent/violet eyes cause how sick would that be!!!
I was also a fan of there being both mortals and immortals in the book opposed to only mortals or immortals! I found it kind of funny how much Marr (Graydon) doesn't like carrying his gun around with him even tho his fated mate is billionaire heiress to a tech company that makes and deal with weapons.
Annika Snow, you sure know how to write one heck of a book and I will definitely continue to pick up any book you write in the future, you've got a lifelong fan out of me! In the mean time, I will be on the edge of my seat waiting for the second book to come out in 2025 so I can read it and get more of Ara and Graydon🤭✨💜
Get ready for another one of those books that I will never stop recommending. I think this might be the most interesting and fun twist on the fated mates trope I’ve ever read simply because HE DOESN’T KNOW HER REAL IDENTITY!
SPARK OF PURSUIT is the first book in the Veilfall duet, which is an urban fantasy romance set in a world where Mortals and Immortals coexist but not always peacefully. It has both magic and tech, a mystery, and a romance between the detective and vigilante. It was basically impossible for me not to fall in love with this book.
The story is in dual POV and follows Ara and Graydon. She’s a heiress by day and a vigilante by night, he is a detective, and they’re both investigating the case of a missing shipment of very dangerous anti-Immortal weaponry produced by her family’s company. In the wrong hands, it could cause chaos. Graydon doesn’t know Ara’s true identity, and she quickly becomes the police’s prime suspect, but the problem is that when the two meet for the first time on the scene of the crime, they discover they’re soulbound. They try to resist—he even tries to arrest her—but they eventually start working together to solve the case of the stolen shipment and the murders that follow, and it gets progressively harder to resist the pull of the Bond. But Ara has no intention of revealing her identity for now, fearing Graydon’s disappointment when he finds out the truth.
THE DRAMA! I was angsting for every moment these two would interact because the banter is perfect. Think Batman and Catwoman. The more the two interact, the more I was anticipating and desiring the moment Graydon finds out her identity. The mystery is also very alluring and it’s set in a backdrop of political unrest between Mortals and Immortals, who have a long history of animosity. The worldbuilding is done well and in a way that isn’t hard to follow or understand, with information given in bits when you need it, which is precisely how I like it. But the biggest mystery remains Ava herself. I can’t say too much or I’d be revealing one of the first twists of the book—and trust me, there are many—but it’s GOOD! Even though we do get an explanation about it in the end, I’m still wondering if there’s more. Speaking of the ending, it tore my heart apart. The sequel instantly became one of my most anticipated reads of 2025!
Spice: 2.5 peppers 🌶️🌶️.5
Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. Opinions are my own. (Actually, the physical copy the author sent me might have gotten lost in the mail, but and I loved this book and I'm impatient so I ordered another one myself which was just delivered to me today.)
Batman, but she's a magical heiress who destroys phones when the media calls her "Sparklegirl." She's pretending to be a party girl disaster while running around in a catsuit at night. Her soulmate is a cop because the universe has a sense of humor.
The book skips the "who, me? destined?" nonsense and gets right to them fighting crime and feelings. Their chemistry is immediate - she blows things up with her mind, he moves things with his, together they could power a small city.
Despite the villain being painfully obvious, I genuinely enjoyed watching our heroine balance her secret identity, family company drama, and supernatural vigilante gig. Plus there are apparently moon pandas in this world.
Four stars for knowing exactly what it is and having fun with it.
I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review … And I am very excited to share it with you. 4.5/5 stars! (Goodreads get on the half stars!) I was very excited to be able to have the opportunity to get this ARC for Snow's debut novel. Typically for a debut novel, especially fantasy I set the bar fairly low, but there was no need for this one! Ara and Grayson were amazing and I felt like we really got to know the characters well and understand their decisions (even if they drove us crazy! I'm talking to you Ara!). A trope I didn't know I was drawn to is the "criminal" and the cop. The game of cat and mouse they played throughout almost the entire book kept me on my toes never knowing when or how it would end. I really liked the modern elements mixed with Immortals who are annoyed and confused by modern technology and constant advancements within the Mortal community. It made it easier to relate to and picture than many other fantasy worlds. Ara is a strong FMC with lots of emotional baggage but strong since of loyalty and a need to protect those she loves. Grayson is a strong MMC that struggled between what was legal and what he felt deep in his soul was right. Snow why did you have to end on a cliffhanger?!?! I instantly signed up for the forever ARC team because I need to know how their story continues ASAP! I recommend this books highly as well as following this author to see what else she does moving forward!
"You feel like the answer to a mystery I've been tryng to solve my entire life and you don't even want to get to know me"
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review and I can honestly say, that this is one of the best romantasy books I have ever read.
This book has everything that you could want in a romantasy; fated mates, a political backstory, characters you fall in love with and amazing worldbuilding and magic systems. I fell into the world of Veilfall and laughed, cried, screamed and loved right alongside Ara and Graydon the whole way through.
I have no idea how I am going to be able to wait for book 2, especially after that ending, but it has just jumped to the top of my most anticipated reads for 2025.
For fans of Sarah J Maas, Jennifer L Armentrout and Carissa Broadbent, GO OUT AND BUY THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW, I promise you won't regret it!
If you’re looking for your next modern romantasy may I recommend Spark of pursuit by @annikasnowauthor ✨💜
I finished it a couple days ago and 🤭🤭🤭 it was so good!! And the way it ended 😱 I need the next one asap!!
Ara, our Fmc, is a vigilante with magical powers & a freaking badass😎. Graydon, our mmc is a cop who also happens to have powers & his mission is to arrest Sparklegirl aka our dear Ara 🤭
I’ve never read anything quite like it before and I had so much fun !! I truly can’t wait for book #2 🤭 I need more of Graydon & Ara
I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC and ended up staying up till 2am reading it as I couldn't put it down so I ended up buying the book as well!
The characters and world-building were beautifully thought out and the story was very fast-paced and original, I can't wait for the next one!!
I had the greatest pleasure to be accepted on the ARC team, and oh my gosh, I had the greatest joy of my first EVER ARC read. 🥰🥰
This novel gave me Batman/Catwoman, rich vigilante working with a detective. The only difference is that the world is set with mortals and immortals, magic and mating bonds.
This novel had me laughing, guessing who the mole was (I got it wrong and was kicking myself for it 🙄🤣 when it was out in the open, I was like, "oooooooh.")
The tension, dancing around one another, and the amusing relationship between the Rienna (A.K.A Aravenna Kalladine, or Ara) was both amusing and exciting, and for once it didn't annoy me. The slow burn was divine, and when the identity was revealed. My heart broke for Graydon.
I really enjoyed the world the book is set in, I liked the some immortals are still living in olden ways and some immortals live along side with mortals (even though some mortals hate the advantages they have over them)
The plot with the terrorist group had me gasping and my heart breaking for what they do to immortals, what their plans are, and why they are doing what they are doing.
There were some parts that did confuse me, but that could be down to my dyslexia. Especially when it came to her suit.
Overall, you can expect a rather cruel cliffhanger that hurt me for the characters and extremely angry at the author (SHE'S NOT EVEN SORRY ABOUT IT! GRRRR) I would highly recommend this book. It will leave you guessing, it will keep you on your toes, you will fall in love with characters and then feel devastated for them.
✨️💜I was so very lucky & grateful to receive an ARC of this in exchange for my honest review! 💜✨️
And where do I begin!? It had me hooked from the beginning! 😍 The banter, the magic, the plot, the twists and turns, likeable characters that you're rooting for!
Some Great Tropes too! ✨️ Fated Lovers 💜 Cat/Mouse Dynamic ✨️Slow Burn 💜 Touch them & Die
The world building could've had a bit more to it in the 1st book but honestly...the characters and plot had me hooked in so well, that it didn't even phase me! And that cliffhanger ending...um is the 2nd book out yet? Because I need it...
@annikasnow I cannot WAIT for the next book and thank you again for the ARC!
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced reading copy of this book, and I absolutely devoured it! Annika Snow has managed to hit on some of my all-time favourite tropes (enemies to lovers, soulmates, badass crime-fighting FMC) but make it all feel totally fresh! The world of Veilfall feels unique with a snowy mysterious vibe, and I loved how the reader learns a little more about the FMC as the book goes on. The plot is intricate and smart, with multiple stakeholders that makes it wonderfully messy.
THE ROMANCE - slow burn, lots of sexual tension, very sweet and also a lil actual enemies lol love it
I was lucky enough to get an ARC copy of this book from the author, and I loved everything about it! I enjoyed the characters, the plot, and how this story was unique in itself. It was such a different take on soul mates, and I really enjoyed the cat and mouse/ irony of the cop and the vigilante. I truly enjoyed Ara and Graydon. I loved their banter and their dynamic. I loved how honest and open and how they allowed each other to be vulnerable when they needed to.
The only critique that I would have is that I wish that the POVs were labeled from the characters as well as a little more background from them. I'm not normally a third-person POV girlie, but I think this works out really well with the story. I can't wait for book 2 BECAUSE MISS MAAM, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THAT CLIFFHANGER.
I was honored with an ARC of this beautiful book, and genuinely was blown away by how much I loved it, I literally could not put this down!
I was intrigued from the description alone, everything about this book sounded incredible - but the second I opened this, oh boy, I knew this one was a winner pretty early in!
The story is so well written, incredible characters and dynamics; all the wonderful romantasy elements we all crave and a sizzling slowburn that will have you literally chomping at the bit - this book literally sucks you right in and makes you feel like you're right there in Veilfall too... (Ugh, I wish.)
Spark of Persuit is easily one of my favorite reads of 2024, immediately a five star read! I can not wait for book two! 🤍✨️
I was able to read this as an ARC and IT WAS SO GOOD!!! This book made me feel like so many of my favourites but had an entirely unique plot. Which currently feels very hard to come by. I’m absolutely floored that this is Annika’s first book. The writing is SO good, and I was hooked the whole way through. I can’t wait for the next book. Please write fast, Annika 🤞
“I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review- It was a bit of a surprise for me. The genre was entirely new to me, and I'll be honest, the beginning didn’t grab my attention as much as I had hoped. However, as the story progressed, I found myself getting more and more drawn into the plot. The pacing picked up, and before I knew it, I was thoroughly invested in this fun, exciting story!
The chemistry between Ara and Graydon was truly captivating. Their dynamic kept me on the edge of my seat, and I loved watching their relationship evolve throughout the book. The way their emotions and personalities were woven together felt so natural, and I found myself rooting for them the entire time. The author really nailed that balance of tension, connection, and subtle romantic build-up between the two.
The characters themselves were incredible. Ara's strength and resilience stood out to me, while Graydon’s complex layers added so much depth to the story. The supporting characters also brought their own richness to the plot, making the world feel vibrant and alive.
The cliffhanger at the end... wow. I didn’t see that coming! Now I can’t wait to dive into the next book. It left me eagerly anticipating where the story will go from here.
I received an early copy of Spark of Pursuit and absolutely loved it!! I was hooked from the first page. The fast-paced plot, lovable but complicated characters, and super cool world building (can I move to Veilfall??) made this book almost impossible to put down.
The dynamic of Ara and Graydon’s romance was really fun to read about and had me fighting with my friends about whose side we were on in a conflict. Without risking any spoilers, let’s just say that the cliffhanger has left me anxiously awaiting book two!
I was lucky enough to receive an early copy of Spark of Pursuit and it did NOT disappoint!! This was a fast-paced read that had me invested right from the first page. The world building was unique to any other fantasy I’ve read and the characters were super well thought out. Also, the romance/tension was *chefs kiss*. This ended on a total cliffhanger - I’m excited to see what happens in book 2 👀
Thank you very much to Annika Snow for an ARC of this book!
I liked the idea of this book more than I liked the actual plot, but only because there was a lot going on. That being said, I didn’t dislike the book at all. I thought it was really well done and written in a unique way.
This book is multi-POV and the chapters themselves contain multiple points of view after section breaks. We have three main POV characters:
Graydon: a cop who is always grumpy and having a relationship with someone he works with. One day, while following up at a crime scene, he meets his soulbound, and everything really changes for him. He often contradicts himself, but until the end, he remains very broody and isolated.
Ara: the heiress of a billion dollar company who has two identities that often cause her to fake personality traits. She wants very little to do with her soulbound because he has the power to ruin everything she has worked toward. A secret vigilante, she goes undercover to help her company solve a crime.
Ed: a cop and best friend of Graydon, he learns some secrets that have the chance to ruin everything for him. He’s a simple guy who just wants others around him to be happy.
The plot has a lot going on centered around a few different crime cases and the soulbound bond between our two main characters.
Overall, this book provides a unique new entry into the world of fantasy/urban fantasy/romantasy. It contains magic, super heroes, cool new tech, and so much more that checks a lot of boxes in those three categories.
There’s a teeny tiny bit of spice in this book, likely to expand as the series continues.
Edit: after thinking about it, I’ve decided to lower my rating from 4 to 3 stars. I liked this book, but not nearly as much as I liked other books I marked as 4 stars. It seems fair to me to lower the rating because of this.
Hello to my new book obsession and top read of the year so far! (And one that'll be hard to beat for a while I imagine, too!)
This book was so refreshing, so unique, so well done and I just loved every minute of it. It's a blend of: - Urban fantasy - Vigilante vs cop - Fated mates - Slow burn - Hidden identities - Unique magic system - Immortals and humans co-existing
I LOVED THIS BOOK. Ara is a billionaire heiress and one who is hiding a major secret - that she is immortal and also the vigilante who has been spotted around town. She's returned to her home town to help her brother uncover the mole within their family's company and those responsible for theft.
OK - let's talk Graydon - because I loved him. He's the cop working the case when he discovers Ara out one night. THESE TWO. The chemistry just burnnnns, and it's so so good. I also really loved the banter and sass between these two, all the quips and fun that they had while they were chasing each other. I also love his friendships with his co-workers.
There is danger, risk, action, and so much more that I can't really go into without giving major spoilers.
Basically - I NEED book 2 immediately! I cannot wait to read more about these two and for this slow burn to truly combust.
Thank you to the author for sending me a PR box. My thoughts are my own.
