Too Many Inconsistencies

Audiobook Review:
This book is just odd. First, the author uses several words and phrases that are completely wrong. For instance, in the first couple of chapters, she uses the term “panty” when clearly the word “panties” is called for. The noun version is not used in the singular, so every time it was said, it irritated my last nerve.

But that was the least of the problems with this story. The book had many inconsistencies. Here are some examples. The hero is divorced, but during a pivotal scene, his ex-wife calls him a married man; he isn't. At one point in the middle of the story, the heroine says that her mother has a drug addiction but has been clean for a year. Yet, when she goes back to her hometown, her mother is clearly in the throes of a powerful addiction. Another odd thing is that the heroine tells the hero at two different times she's a virgin, and it comes as a surprise both times! At a certain point, we're told that the heroine has purchased a condo in her hometown, yet it is referred to several times as an apartment. At least on the west coast of the US, apartments and condos are quite different things! In the epilogue, the young child calls his half-sister his aunt. It's almost as if this writer (or her ghostwriter) got two stories conflated and couldn't keep them straight.

And don't get me started on the pregnancy inconsistencies and oddities! She's only just figured out that she's pregnant, but she has already gained 11 pounds? A few months later, at about three and a half months, she's now gained 25 pounds and is already showing and waddling(!), but then, just a little while later, she supposedly touches her flat stomach.

Sometimes, when a story lacks, a good narrator can help make up the difference, but that wasn't so in this case. Just one female narrator is used, and she has a very girlish voice. This works quite well for the young women, and she does a decent job distinguishing the two main females in the story. But she could not pull off the hero's voice at all. While she attempted to make him sound a bit grumbly and gruff, she just sounded far too young and far too female. I have heard female narrators do a decent job with male character voicings; this one just was not up to scratch.

Aside from these consistency and usage issues, this book also had character issues, particularly with the heroine. Admittedly, she's young, but she has these flip-out moments that don't make logical sense for her character or is a way a thinking woman would act. For instance, when she discovers she's pregnant, she immediately thinks that she must break up with the father to save her friendship with his daughter. Seriously, at that moment, that's what's most important? There's a huge scene between the heroine and the hero's ex-wife. I don't understand where the heroine was coming from, thinking she had to just obey this woman, both before and after her threats. And seriously, what sorts of lawsuits could this woman actually instigate against the heroine? It just didn't make sense. Oh, and for those who care, this is a steamy romance that I would rate as explicit. While in general, I prefer more steamy-sweet intimate scenes, the spice level was the least of my concerns. Not recommended.

I received a promo code for this audiobook, but that did not affect my review.

This novella by Tyra Sinclair is super spicy so get a fan and something cold to drink as you watch the relationship between Elara and Simon. Like any good billionaire, age-gap, forbidden romance, there are always complications...like Simon's daughter, who is also Elara's best friend. Add a spiteful ex-wife and some misunderstandings, and you end up with enough drama to rival a tele nova. When Elara can handle no more, a new truth shakes things up even more.
Intimate scenes are so hot, they burn the pages. Each crisis seems to snowball into another, making you sure to keep turning the pages. A little editing will polish this gem to 5 star level.

Hot and steamy

It is a good age-gap novella. If you like this genre, then you will find romance between Simon and Elara to be quite steamy and captivating.
I found the language being a bit choppy, with the same words or phrases repeating multiple times on the same page, hence my 4 star rating.
Overall it’s a page turner for anyone who likes those kind of books.

Good wins over Evil

Engaging age gap romance. I can't get enough of these. I love Simon and Elara's romance and when Mel tries to get in the middle, she can only delay, not thwart love. Recommend.

Spicy

This book is easy to read with a lot of spice, so be warned. It's a typical age-gap romance involving the dad of a friend. If you're looking for a quick read in this genre, I recommend it. The book is well written. The characters are likable.
