Bone Deep Blues had me hooked from the very beginning. Like, properly hooked. The prologue itself was such a rush of sensations and mystery that I was already whispering “oh no what is happeningggg” before even properly knowing who the guy was or what he had gotten himself into. That eerie, twisted mix of sensuality and horror in the first few pages? Chills. Literal chills.
What I absolutely loved about this book was how it moved—like a gritty blues track that starts soft and then builds into a full-on thunderstorm. It doesn’t waste your time with fluff. Every chapter hit with some punch—be it emotional, psychological, or just straight-up adrenaline. You think you’re going in for some crime-mystery, and suddenly you’re in this dark maze of power games, military backstories, trauma, love, loyalty, and redemption.
I really vibed with the characters—especially Sam and JD. There’s this wonderful contrast between them: Sam, the clean-cut associate, kind of prim and proper, and then JD, this raw, soulful ex-Navy SEAL and musician. The way their paths tangled and tested them? So satisfying to read. And Lydia! I appreciated how she wasn’t just a prop love interest—she had her own edge and purpose.
Also, can we just talk about The Reservation club? The whole setting there, the music, the people, the vibe—it was like slipping into another world. That part made me feel. You can hear the blues playing in the background, you can almost smell the wood and whiskey—it was just written that well.
Something else that really got to me was the emotional undercurrent. The book isn’t just thrills and noir aesthetics—it talks about trauma, especially war trauma, with so much rawness.
