A chilling and skilful psychological thriller, from the award-winning author of Fleshmarket and The Highwayman's Footsteps.Someone is watching Cat McPherson. Is it a young schizophrenic, a retired scientist, or Cat’s ex-boyfriend? Or it could be someone else entirely. An obsession with insects seems to link them all. And Cat hates insects. She’s easy prey, especially as she has given away so much about herself on an internet site which her parents have forbidden her to use. But does she even realize that she’s being stalked? A talented athlete, she’s too busy with the pressures of training and deciding whether she really wants to run for a living. The trouble is, soon she will have to run for her life…
The beginning was slow and sluggish. I felt that the main character was unlikable and some premises of the story weren't drawn out well - like the similarity between Walter and the insect guy who came to their school. Very confusing.
The beggining was slow, but I had to preview this for someone, so I kept at it, and its pretty good. This story takes place is scotland, so different language and stuff. It's all good. :)
I found this book exciting and engaging, enough to make me want to read on, and altogether I enjoyed it. However, I found some parts of the book hard to understand/follow, for instance, I didn't get the link between Walter and the guy who came to the school. I found the main character relatable, yet I think certain aspects of her, like the way she wants to give up her dreams for the sake of popularity, mean she is not the inspirational, good example of a protagonist that some books have. Despite this, the author conveys the importance of dreams and doing what you want to do well at the end of the book, and I found it a good read.

I read this book out of curiosity, more than anything. I was drawn into the story to find out what happened, but I didn't connect with the character up until the end. I also had no sense of place, that it was set in Scotland was only really apparent when the author told you, and then it jarred you out of the story. I really like the insect details in this book, and I think it could be a good book to show children the dangerous consequences of online chat rooms etc.
I think that this book is a really good book that includes a lot of good parts and exciting parts and I would defiantly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysterious and thriller book because this would be the perfect book for you
After having the chance to meet the author, I bought this and another of her books. She was an interesting person in reality and she conveyed it in her books. Very cleverly written, kept my guessing and on edge. Brilliant.
