I remember the moment I became aware. I can only describe it as if I was a camera. Slowly as the lenses are rotated; the picture comes into focus over the course of what seemed like a lifetime. Slowly shifting and unshifting until finally the images lined up and my mind came into focus. What is it like to wake up from a dream and have no idea who you are? .... Where you are? ....What you are? I have no memory of learning language, only using it. In fact, I have no memory of anything at all. I have no past and the present is a single room where my only contact with the outside world is a hand that brings me food through a slot in the door and my only feelings are of rage. I have awoken into my own personal hell and as I hear them approach the door, I can only think one thought….I'm hungry.
Also, man I shouldn't have read this after reading "I Was An Alien Cat Toy!" The relationships in this book aren't the best and are extremely abuse oriented. Abuse due to being Dr. Moreau'd of course, but still abuse none the less. Furthermore, even if I was intrigued by some of the characters in this book several of them literally become irrelevant. This is just further proof that the main characters and story just didn't work for me.
Content Warning: convoluted and not very sensible sexual assault, cannibalism
If i had anything good to say about this book, it would be that it makes me want to look for a legit feline x canine book, but that's irrelevant. I tried something and it didn't work out. That's it.
I have, as of late, been looking for stories in which the character undergoed a fundemental transformation and has to learn to deal with the outcome. Aware gave me exactly what I was looking for - a fascinating tale of a woman who wakes with no memory and a leopard/human hybrid body and her struggles to discover who she was and who she is.
4.5 stars reduced only because of the occasional editing error that was distracting during a few tense scenes
