I remember this book being read to me when I was in around kindergarten or first grade, around that age. It was a book I absolutely loved to read, and the message I took away from it is that things get better, and that there are people out there who will love you for you.
I'm 20 now, and remembered this book enough that I was able to find this listing despite not having seen the book since I was 6 or 7. This book was one of my favorites, not just because of the story itself, but the artwork. It isn't the sole reason, but I've loved to draw from a young age as well, and have become a fairly capable artist and writer, and books like this one helped that journey start.
I haven't seen this book in almost twelve years, much less read it, but I still consider it a very important book from my childhood, one of three I can remember being important to me off the top of my head.
I would definitely recommend this book to parents/guardians of young readers. It might not stick with your child the way it stuck with me, but the moral and meaning of it is good. I'm not sure how interesting it would be for an adult reading it though. I checked it out of the school library when I was a kid, so I can't give a more recent review.
My children absolutely adore this book. Reading literature is so important to the development of a child's mind, and I cannot think of thing I would rather do then sit down to read to them in the evenings. Imagination and growth are so vital in those so young.
Sam lives at the dump, a very strange dump with stuff that normally would be recycled. (Copyright 1996, but the illustrations look much older maybe 1950's) Sam is lonely and one day Rosie and her mother rescue him and take him home.
Sam the Garbage Hound Simon, Charnan a funny story about a dog, and how he sees the world. This book is a good early reader and used as a secondary emergent readers
Sam is a traditional junkyard dog. One day he is taken home with a family. He still does the same things though. This book could be read to remind children to stay true to who they are.
