I’ve always been the girl who wasn’t worth the trouble, but once upon a time he made me believe I was worth more.

Indie
I might be going to the college of my dreams with only my violin and a few hundred dollars to my name, but I’ll work harder than any student they’ve ever had, and nothing will stop me. Cedar Lakes University is how I turn my life around.
As my future begins to unravel, I’m slowly realizing that my plan has flaws. A math class I can’t pass and the boy I wish I could forget. As luck would have it, he’s the only one who can help me. One summer he walked away from me and now he’s my tutor. The school’s quarterback, Sebastian Dawson. He’s a pro at getting under my skin, making me feel things I don’t have time to feel.
But the more time I spend with him, the more he makes my head spin.
Can I pass the class without falling for his charms again?

Seb
Not a day goes by where I don’t wish that summer ended differently, but I had promises to keep and obligations to fulfil.
I’ve never forgotten her and now, I’ve got another chance. Only problem is her walls are up, and I have to scale them once again. So, when the opportunity to help her falls into my lap, there’s no way I can say no. I want to show her that I’m not the guy she thinks I am.
I’ll do anything to show her that she’s worth the trouble.

This book started off great but it eventually fell apart for me. Indie and Seb had a brief fling one summer, only for it to end abruptly. When Indie transfers to Seb’s school and ends up rooming with his sister, they can’t avoid each other anymore. I’m a huge fan of second chance romances, so my expectations were high.

I genuinely enjoyed the first half of the book, but things started to lose their appeal when Seb’s sister forced them to spend a break together. I get that they still had feelings for each other and wanted to reconnect, but the way it happened felt rushed. Once they returned from the break, their relationship escalated far too quickly. Although I appreciated the moment when they finally talked about what happened during their time apart, the pacing threw me off.

The ending was heartwarming, but I couldn’t fully enjoy it. Seb didn’t grovel nearly enough for Indie, and she forgave him far too easily for my liking. It left me wanting more closure and growth from Seb’s side.

I am going to give this a solid 3.5 stars (slightly rounded up). I liked the overall story and haven't been able to quite put my finger on what made it not a full 4. There was good character development in some aspects but then I felt like less so in other areas. Things were moving slow and then fast. Overall though solid intro book to a new series.

Indie is finally where she wants to be. She is on a scholarship at the school where she has worked so hard to be. She has her walls up and intact. She does not plan on making friends let alone having a relationship that is until she is reminded of what could have been. She runs into the ONE guy she thought she would never see again. Sebastian. Seb. The guy who made her feel like a queen only to ghost her and never reach out. Well she got the message loud and clear, but what are the chances that they are now in the same school. And that she is roommates with his sister Quinn. What are the chances what he is conveying to her and how he wants to talk about what happen could mean that that summer meant as much to him as it did to her? What are the chances she ends up with his family for Thanksgiving and her walls start to come down? And what are the chances that he is now her tutor for math to help her pass and keep her scholarship? She is so worried that he will leave her when he is done with her because that's what everyone she cares about does. Will he be able to prove her wrong?

Sebastian has never stopped thinking about that summer where he made a huge mistake. He knew he hurt her, but he was too scared to do it in person. He didn't want to not reach out to her but with a broken phone and a behind cloud backup he had no way to contact her. And now her she is. And not only that she is his sisters roommate and now he is her tutor. Sure her walls are up but he can see it in her eyes that what they is still very real for her. Just like it is for him. So of course he goes along with her rules and boundaries. He will do anything to keep her around. He just has to prove to her that he isn't going anywhere and that what they feel for each other is very real.

I liked the character growth in this one. Indie has been through so much, but she still finds ways to push herself and continue to grow. She finds herself with a cheerleader BF and her boyfriend is the star quarterback. She finds herself opening up about her past more and more in a way that doesn't make her sad as much as it helps remind her where she came from. I liked how Seb wasn't giving up. I liked the reverse grumpy x sunshine. There need to be more of these! Seb had the best way of getting her to smile or snarl at him and he loved both. I also liked the supporting characters and am excited to read Quinn and Miles story!

Thank you to Love Notes PR and Meghan for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

✨ Trouble by Meghan Hollie ✨

Do I remember signing up for an ARC of this book? No.
Am I beyond happy that I did? Resounding YES.
How happy? I read this book in one sitting the day I received the ARC. 🫣

This story was compelling, mildly angsty, and had such an amazingly prickly FMC, Indie, whose life story brought me to tears at one point. All the emotions.

The prologue? Gut wrenching.
The meet cute? “Oh booooooooooy”
The coincidences? Fabulously timed.
The fact this is the first in a series? Sign. Me. Up.

Indie and Seb have a complicated past — a beautiful summer spent together — gone in an instant. Fast forward some time and they both end up at the same college. Indie’s built up her emotional walls and Seb is doing anything he can to tear them down. THANK GOD FOR STATISTICS.

Indie is a prickly, grumpy FMC. She’s strong, independent, a badass, and one who is driven to accomplish things in her life. Seb is those things too, kinda, but above all, he’s compassionate, empathetic, and stubborn. I love when we have two MCs who are stubborn asf. Who backs down first? Who takes control? The games and questions help create that angst we all know and love in a read.

Read if you enjoy:
- Second chances
- Sportsball romance
- College romance
- She’s a violinist!! Yay for orchestra!!!
- Found family

⚠️ Some mildly triggering content — read content warnings before proceeding.
Recommend: YES!!!
Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Pairs well with a nice homemade blueberry muffin & a nice hot black coffee to go.

Wow, this was such a nice read!
To be honest, I didn’t even remember signing up for this arc, but, oh, am I happy I did!

‘Trouble’ was such a pleasant surprise. The plot, the characters and the setting were all exceptionally well done. 🥰

So, let me give you a quick rundown of the plot: our fmc, Indie, received a scholarship for her dream college. Everything was great until she started failing her math class and her professor requested a tutor. Now, let’s all take a guess who her new tutor might be:
A) her best friend
B) her professor, who volunteered to help
C) the boy who vanished without uttering a single word after spending an entire summer with her
Of course- it’s C), but AHHHHHHH who doesn’t love the tutor trope?!?
Let’s just say that their feelings start changing and yada yada. ;)

Now, let’s please talk about Indie. She was such a baddie and I loved her grumpy attitude. Especially, her character growth throughout this book was so inspiring: going from being really distrustful and lonely to blossoming in her (college) life and starting to have friends and a family.

Seb, Seb, Seb… wow, Sebastian was such a well-built character. His flirty and outgoing personality really resonated with Indie’s. He was the perfect golden retriever boyfriend and honestly, I’d just want him to be my friend or big brother! He is so protective (but not in a caveman kind of way) of his sister and his friends. I really loved that about him!

I can only recommend reading this book! It was so wholesome with such a great plot.😩
Also, this is part one of a series!?!? I need the next book, like NOW!!!!

Tropes:
✨reverse grumpy X sunshine
✨found family
✨college setting
✨second chance
✨violinist X quarterback

Call to all the Off Campus and Briar U lovers. Do you want the same funny, spicy and entertaining kind of story but with football? Well, look no further because Meghan Hollie delivers.

Even though I think I outgrown a little the target of this book I still had such a fun time reading it.

Some tropes you can find in it:
- Second Chance (ish)
- Grumpy musician FMC
- Sunshine cinnamon roll MMC
- Football
- Best friend´s brother
- University romance

I really liked Seb´s character and I think he carried the book
Indie sometimes pissed me off. I understand completely all her issues but giiiirl, open your eyes!

Anyway, solid read! and happy publication

⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5 stars)

I genuinely enjoyed this book! The first half of the book was a solid 4 stars for me. Seb is such a sweet boy, and Indie is a really strong girl, I loved seeing how both of them grew throughout the story. Indie has been through a lot, but she still manages to find ways to push herself and keep growing, which made her easy to root for.

Seb’s persistence was one of my favorite things about him, he doesn’t give up, and that made the reverse grumpy x sunshine dynamic really shine.

Now, about the spice… it definitely came in hot! Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a bit of dirty spice, but Seb just wasn’t that MMC in my head, if that makes sense. It felt a little out of character for the version of him I’d imagined.

After the halfway point, the pacing suddenly sped up, and near the end (especially in the second-to-last chapter), the doubts and conflicts popped up a bit abruptly. Those parts felt slightly rushed and took away from the emotional buildup.

That said, the writing style was really great, easy to get lost in and genuinely engaging. I’m definitely curious about the stories of the other characters, so I’ll be picking up the rest of the series for sure!

🏈 football romance
🎻 college romance
🏈 second chance
🎻 best friend’s brother
🏈 grumpy FMC + sunshine MMC
🎻 found family
🏈 no third act breakup

📌 “She’s bright and fierce, and I was trying to find my way home, but instead I found her.”

📌“Indie girl, you’re worth more than someone’s opinion, but for what it’s worth, I struggle to notice anything else when you’re in the room. All I see is you.”

📌“You’re complicated, baby, and I’m…damn, I’m interested in being complicated with you.”

Psst. You! Come here. Come closer. Just a tiny bit closer. Good. Let me tell you a secret… I LOOOOOOOOOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, too loud? I got excited 🫣

You have absolutely no idea - no, you really don’t - how this book consumed me. Took over my life. At one point I really thought, “TayTay is right! ‘I love you, and it’s ruining my life’.” — Trouble was all I thought about, all I did, all I wanted to do. But no, Taylor was not right. It didn’t ruin my life. It made it better…

So much better. With more light and more black. With more laughter and more angst. Full of friendship and inevitable love stories. Full of hope and ache. Full of everything I love about reading. Full of everything I love about romance.

If Indie, our FMC, had a soundtrack, it would be “I can do it with a broken heart.” Even if she’s not a Taylor Swift fan. Quinn would approve. The same way I approve Quinn getting the next book 😜

Thank you @meghanhollieauthor and @lovenotes.pr for this incredible ARC.

P.S.: have you seen both covers?! Like, what?! How can I possibly choose between the two?! You’re right. I can’t. I need them both

This was a cute college sports, reverse grumpxsunshine book. The characters were super cute together. I especially loved Seb. He was a a sweet golden retriever type of character and he was so immediately gone for Indie.

I think the flashbacks were done well. The way we got to see scenes of them from the past helped add more depth and understanding to their history so it didn’t seem too insta lovey.

My biggest thing was that once they finally got together there wasn’t much of them actual being a couple. Seb was sos sweet so there were so many things the author could have done to make them have cute couple moments. Instead it was just a crap ton of smut. Which is whatever but on top of it I found the smut to be pretty cringe at times.

Overall it was a cute read that was fast and has an adorable mmc.

If you wanna reminiscence the 2012 wattpad era again, you should definitely read this book. It has every cliche possible from goth teen good at music having a tragic backstory to a jock whose dad pressures him to pursue football.
And ofc the friendship between enid and wednesday, I mean Indie and Quinn, what can I say, every second of it is copied from wednesday down to the t.

Though moving on, the writing: it looked like the author just learned all these new words and learned what a metaphor is cuz there's plenty of that to be found instead of two mature characters alas.

If you like all of these things, then this might just become your fav book!

Ps:- author really wanted to write a 2012 wattpad book but she sadly forgot to call mmc's eyes as emerald orbs instead she settled for emerald irises.

I dont know if it was just me or what but I struggled finishing this book. We have a grumpy FMC but I feel like she was over the top with the grumpiness it was just almost like that was her whole personality…. I really liked the plot and indie had her good relatable moments! I loved seb and his personality was pretty great especially with how empathetic and compassionate he is! I really like the way this author writes so I will definitely be reading more from them!

What a surprise! It’s official I like reversed grumpy x sunshine better than the regular trope, it resonates with me more. I really really liked this book and the characters too! Like OMG!

Seb is a perfect golden retriever boyfriend! This man was everything! His character was so beautifully built and shown that it made me fall for him in a way. You can’t not like this man. He’s super outgoing, flirty and has an incredible personality.
And Indie, what to say? She is an absolute badass, I really liked her character, even if sometimes she was getting on my nerves (but hey, it happens to everyone). I loved seeing her growth and changes throughout the story, how she finally accepted people in her life, I was so so happy for her (yes I know she’s fictional but still).

These two together made perfect sense in my head! And the second chance they got at uni after their one summer was absolutely meant to be, it was so well written! And I also loved how their backstory was told!

Beta read - Releasing in May 2024

I was lucky enough to be a Beta Reader of Meghan Hollie’s newest book in her new series, Trouble.

The book is a romance between Indie, a self proclaimed loner and Seb, the all American heart throb. Two complete opposites who make an unlikely but perfect match!

All Seb wants is Indie and all Indie wants is to pass her exams and keep her scholarship at Cedar Lake University! Who knows how this is going to turn out?

I’m really not wanting to give any spoilers about this book but it’s so hard to not!!
It has a perfect mix of spice and romance with other loveable characters thrown into the mix.

I personally loved the book and can’t wait to read the rest of the series and see how their relationship unfolds!

I will post a more in-depth review when the book is finally published!

The way I have been waiting to read this book ever since I seen the tropes and teasers. All of my faves and it didn’t disappoint. Reverse grumpy X sunshine just hits different.

After spending a summer together, but Seb leaving with no word these two cross paths again at the same college for a little second chance romance.

Hello Seb Dawson. What in the golden retriever MMC is this guy 🫠 I loved him. I can’t explain how sweet this guy is. QB, captain of the team, he’s well loved. But he also has a mouth on him 🤭 With Indie constantly on his mind from that summer, he’d do just about anything to get her back once he sees her again.

“𝑰’𝒎 𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒈𝒖𝒚, 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒆. 𝑰’𝒍𝒍 𝒘𝒂𝒊𝒕 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒐𝒖𝒕.”

Indie girl 🥺 someone give this girl a damn hug. She’s fiercely independent, not wanting to need anyone and always thinking people are going to leave. Yes she’s grumpy but she’s not mean and give her the chance she’ll care 🫶🏼 She’s got those walls built up high, and one guy in particular who wants to break them down.

“𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒍𝒆𝒂𝒗𝒆, 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒌 𝑰’𝒎 𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒃𝒍𝒆, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝑰’𝒎 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒋𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒓𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒔𝒖𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒗𝒆.”

Seb and Indie are opposites attract in every way but oh how they’re so perfect for each other. I loved seeing Indie come out of her grumpy shell, make a real friend and trusting them not to leave. And Seb? I just love him.

I loved how this was a college sports romance but it had no drama you see in some. Side note. Spicy tutoring scenes? OK🔥 A beautiful read full of emotion and a perfect amount of banter 🤭 I loved the side characters, all the football guys 👏🏼 I can’t wait for book two.

Releasing May 2nd. Thankyou Meghan and love notes pr for the arc 🫶🏼

This book was so amazing to read. I love a good sports romance and if you are looking for that, then go read this! They met during summer break and he left her. She thought she was never going to see him again.. but boy she was wrong! Just like he deserves, she is playing hard to get. Indie is such a fun character, but there is also dept in this story. Seb is such a lovely guy. Loved them!

⭐⭐⭐⭐.25/5 Stars

Meet Indie & Seb!
Indie, our badass, strong minded, doesn't trust easily cos she hasn't had anyone show her that's she's worth the trouble (ohhh she said the name of the booook! LMAO) FMC. Wild, curly blonde hair, amazing at the violin & working hard to make her way through college.

Seb, our golden retriever, Quarterback of the football team, driven MMC. Desperate to break down the walls that Indie built back up after their whirlwind Summer romance ended abruptly.

I loved reading about these two and the multiple different levels of their relationship. The push and pull, opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine vibe made for such a fun read & had me glued to the pages til the very end.

Trouble (arc) By Meghan Hollie✨🏈🍰🎼🪩

Trouble is about our FMC Indie and MMC Seb. Indie has always been on her own most of her life, she never really fit in anywhere and never really had anyone. Until one summer she meets a boy who rocks her world. She has never felt loved or wanted in her life. Then the end of summer came and he left her. Since then Indie has kept her walls up and ice in her heart. She is heading off to university and then finds the one boy who had her heart… seb… Will old feeling reconnect…? Or is it too late for them?

This book was so stinkin cute to me! I loved the banter between the two MC! I am a sucker for a second chance romance and Meghan delivered it flawlessly 🤭 Learning about what really happened that summer and the flash backs were just perfect! Sometimes flash backs can be confusing but this was done perfectly!

The romance was everything!! I loved all the cute little moments between indie and seb. Also don’t get me started on him calling her indie girl😍😍 it was so cute! Seb was so in love with indie! I always loved reading his POV, one of the best book bfs😅 I loved how much he cared about her and seeing her finally accept that someone wants and loves her🥹 The only thing was for me towards the end a little it became just a little too physical, but the whole Christmas time scene was sooo cute!!☺️ also the DIY jersey was everything 🥰 I loved indie and seb so much!

Overall I loved this book! It was super cute!! I cant wait to read this next one about miles and quinn😋 I loved the tension between them in this book! Thank you Meghan for the arc🫶🏼

i’m so in love with this book it’s not even funny. it’s so good i’m not ashamed to admit i stayed up late to finish it which may or may not have meant i skipped the physics lecture i had in the morning.

disclaimer: i’m aware this review isn’t probably the most perfect and organised one and is probably incredibly chaotic but i genuinely loved this book sm it’s altered my brain chemistry. like i don’t even know where to begin because EVERYTHING was equally PERFECT. the writing? the storyline? the smut (hehe)? check. check. check.

normally when i’m writing a review, the first thing that comes to mind is what i didn’t fully like/love (idk but it’s always the first thing that i think of for some reason), but for this book ?!?!? my mind is BLANKING all i can think about are the good, scratch that, ideally amazingly incredible things. the characters, the plot, the story, THE NO THIRD ACT BREAK-UP?!?! *chef kiss*

i was genuinely so invested in this book when i reached the ending i kept clicking the right side of my kindle because i outright refused to believe it was over. i need sm more of seb & indie, i’m addicted to them they’re so cute and their banter ajsjaidkwo >>>> i’m so obsessed with this book i’m low-key reconsidering my college experience bc so far it’s nothing like this. where’s a hot quarterback mentor when you need one? ugh. en fin. i have nothing more to say - i mean i do, but it’s just going to be me rambling about how good it is so instead go read it so you can see for yourself 🤗

Trouble tells the poignant story of Indie, a determined FMC facing the challenges of college with only her violin and a limited budget. In walks the quarterback, Sebastian Dawson. The two have a complicated past, a summer filled with passion that ended abruptly. Haunted by past choices, Sebastian seizes the chance to prove himself to Indie again, determined to break down her defenses.

Through their journey, the two stubborn MCs bicker and banter as the push and pull build an unbinding force that cannot be shattered. Indie is a strong and independent FMC, and I just loved how she knew what she wanted and was determined to get it. The grumpy FMC is one of my favorite tropes, and I was all for it! Seb is so caring and compassionate. I fell so hard for his character - I loved how amazing he was for Indie. This second-chance romance was a breath of fresh air, and it was easily one of the best grumpy sunshine stories I've read in a long time. Highly recommend!

It's been a long time since i read a college romance and boy am I glad I did and dove into Trouble. Talk about your reverse grumpy sunshine, college sports romance and this makes up with perfection. Indie and Seb are your classic opposites attract but with a lot of push n pull which is just eeek, I love it!! This book was so refreshing and amazing and no unnecessary drama which comes from a college romance. I loved every minute of reading this book. Yes I finished it within a day! Love the strength and grit Indie has and the safety Seb provides. Our wonderful CLU crew are a hoot and i can't wait to read more from this universe!

Wow this was such an amazing story. You know when you read the prologue of a book and you think “Oh, is going to be a good one”. Yeah, this was that kind of book.

Indie and Sebastian share a heartbreaking past. It all comes tumbling down when they meet at the same college after some time has passed since they last saw each other. There is angst, passion, loads of cute moments and also let me just mention that he is a football player and she is a violinist. 🏉🎻

This is the first book in the Cedar Lakes University series and I’m so excited for the next book as I absolutely loved this one.
