“Sh*t feels like my heart dancing. I ain't even know a heart could f*ckin’ dance. You got me so outta body, Candi. Don’t make me have to live life the other way.”

I loved Jayshun DOWN in “To the Moon”. He was such a lovable character and you couldn’t help but root for him to win in the love department. When Evelyn told us we were getting a story about Jay I jumped for joy with excitement because again he DESERVED a HEA……but after reading “Yours to have, Mine to Love” I have just one question…. 🗣️Harpo, who dis man?! 😳because this CANT be the same Jay that was big steppin in To the Moon, this CANT be the same Jay that had me ready to disown Luna behind how she did my boy! 🗣️CANT BE!!!

I really wanted to love Jay and Candi’s story but I just couldn’t. Jay felt like a completely different person and did not get his moment to truly shine like we know he could’ve. Jay already had his heart put through the wringer and no disrespect to Candi but he deserved a WHOLE healed woman. Not someone he had to build from the ground up. Candi would have been the perfect candidate had she already done the work of therapy and rebuilding her self confidence because sis had been through A LOT but she was still too broken to be the perfect fit Jay needed. The reciprocity was severely lacking in this relationship and it was due to no fault of Candi’s. She just didn’t have it to give.

Luna was mentioned wayyyy too much! Sis is living her best married, mom, Grammy award winning life not thinking about that man so why would the author think that a man getting over severe heartbreak wanted a CONSTANT reminder about what he allegedly fumbled. Jay was just as much a prize if you ask me and I didn’t like her being thrown in his face at every turn of the page!

Evelyn told us this was an instalove but chyyyyyy this was the fastest love connection I’ve ever read about and it didn’t feel genuine nor authentic. I did love the way that Jay’s family welcomed Candi with open arms and created a sense of belonging that she didn’t have from her own family but that’s where things ended for me.

This could have and should have been an amazing story but it ended up being sub par at best. I’m still going to keep Evelyn on my radar but I feel like she shines better with longer novels than she does with novellas.

So…I was looking forward to reading Jay’s love story but unfortunately, this missed the mark for me. If you’ve read To The Moon, then you know what happened between Jay and Luna. My boy was done wrong and he deserved an amazing love. Jay chased Luna since high school and now he’s chasing Candi. THIS IS A GOOD MAN – somebody needed to be chasing him! This was basically about Candi’s trauma and hangups. I know this was instant love, but it was too much, way too fast. I started over twice to make sure I wasn’t tripping. Luna’s ears should have been on fire because her name was brought up A LOT. I just didn’t feel like Jay was the focus and I really wanted more for him.

As avid readers, we allow our hearts to lead us when we read. When a story touches your heart in profound ways, you are ready to toss up those five stars. Well, this read was a prime example of that for me. It snatched my heart right from the beginning, and gave it a hard squeeze, that didn’t let up until I read the last word. Whew….. ❤

Poor Candi was dealt a raw deal in life with a neglectful mother, and a stepfather who stole her innocence, and changed the entire trajectory of her life! Candi held so much pain that I swear I could feel it rising from the pages. She had allowed her experiences to push her into a life of promiscuity, drugs, alcohol, and tearing her body down to numb the pain. 💔 She wanted, no needed someone to “see” her and love her beyond what she had gone through, without expecting anything in return. Moving to Sapphire City was to help her begin her healing and little did she know her choice was the perfect one.

Jayshun “Jay” was recovering from his own heartbreak, but as time went on, he realized that she was not meant to be his forever. Jay was hopeless romantic, and I love to see that in a man. 😍 He was also kind, and fixer, a healer. When he met Candi, he immediately saw the sadness in her eyes, and wanted to help her. However, he also felt a pull that told him she was the one. This man had me swooning with almost every word he uttered! He knew that Candi’s story would be heavy, and she would need time, but he had all the time in the world for her. His Magic! He was so patient and understanding with her. She had never been loved properly, and felt that she was not deserving of love, or anything good for that matter. The way Jay encouraged her, spoke positivity over her, and loved her past her trauma was beyond beautiful! ❤ First read by this author, and I enjoyed this so much. Will be checking out her catalog. Great job ma’am! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Yours to Have, Mine to Love literally owes me nothing - I really just want to shout “Read this book!” and dip but my man, Jayshun Black, deserves more than that. So here’s my thoughts…

Evelyn penned the perfect man - like, this man was doing some things before I even made it a third of the way into the book. He is definitely on my list for book bae of the year. When Jay was introduced in To The Moon, I felt that he got the short end of the stick and I was begging for “justice for Jay!” I knew there was more to him and I can wholeheartedly say he deserved all the love he received. Whatever thoughts you think you may have about him, don’t even think it. He is THE ONE! The thing about Jay is he was truly a lover boy - a hopeless romantic, who spoke with intention and was the most selfless and caring person. I can truly go on and on about him and the way he catered to Candi’s every need. What a man!

Candi was introduced in Late Nights and Early Morning series. I vividly remember saying “I hope we see the glow-up for Candi because she deserves a HEA” in my review because I felt there was a darkness to her character that made me empathize with her. Candi was the perfect person for Jay, not because she was “broken” and he was a “healer” but she was clearly crying out for help and to be loved with no ill intentions. I was so glad to see her doing the “work” and healing from her past traumas. .

The book was an instalove story, so it moved quickly; however, it was so detailed and engaging. It was easy for me to fall in love with the characters because of their banter, chemistry, sexual tension, and comfortability with each other. Being able to see Candi from Jay’s perspective was literally my favorite part- he called her Magic and I loved that for her. I also felt it was a great idea for the author to show the growth of both characters, ie Jay dealing with a heartbreak and Candi overcoming addiction, and mending broken relationships, amongst other things. At this point, I am packing up and moving to Sapphire City to be with my people. Get you a man that sings Jagged Edge to you, s3xes you in a weed field, and speaks words of affirmations to you.

Amazing job on this one!

They fell in love wayy to fast for me. Candi was out of rehab for a year and her therapist told her it was ok for her to smoke weed 😬

Jay!!!!

Y'all, I read To The Moon and Jay always stood on business. Did I like the fact that Luna did kind of string him along...yea. She never should have accepted his proposal because in her heart she knew she'd end up with Javen. Anyway, Jay and Candi... That was how things were supposed to be. That man poured into her from the very beginning. He said he wiped her slate clean like his name was Jesus! That man said, nobody came before me as far as I'm concerned. Whew Chile...Happy Reading Y'all!💋

The follow up 3.5 stars

Okay, the follow up was good, however, it did not hold my attention as well as the first book. I am not overjoyed with the overstated leading man wanted by every woman in the story trope. News flash! that type is not for me. And the fact that we keeping getting his storyline after story is hum bug... Maybe it's your deal.

Rushed

This book could have been a lot better if it wasn't so rushed. Both characters had a lot to unpack and it unfolded so quickly made you wonder how they were "healed". I felt the characters wasn't done any real justice.

Let me start by saying I’m not a novella person. I enjoyed Jay in “to the moon”, but this one fell short for me. It was a good read, but it wasn’t enough story for me. There is a disclaimer at the beginning about this being insta love which is cool, but there wasn’t much depth in my opinion.

I’m glad Jay found love in Candi! Whew I thought he would never get over Luna cause she is definitely one of a kind. However if you invite love in embrace it!

With how things ended with Luna and Jay I wanted so much more for him than what he got. I feel like he settled, yeah the story is ‘insta love’ but this one is a hard no for me. I’m team Luna and Javen all day however, Luna did do Jay dirty and after her I was hoping he finds someone who matches his energy cuz Jay was a solid one.

Candi just didn’t do it for me, while I do love a good redemption story, she wasn’t it. The way she just was with the shits from the beginning. Ready to leave this man because she doesn’t want to deal with his potential kid and she has a whole set of twins. Not one child but TWO 🧐 Comparing herself to Luna the minute she found out about the girl. Not only was she 2 minutes into the relationship but why are you worried about someone from the past 😒 On my opinion she wanted too much to be offering NOTHING

Let’s not talk about how often everyone kept bringing Luna up and both Jay and Luna was moving on with their life. Every time Candi had a lil episode I cringed hoping he leaves her alone.

This man loves so hard and to have to chase another woman after his recent situation, I was hoping he gets someone that caters to him because it what he deserves. Someone to love him effortlessly.

The fact that Jay was chasing behind Candi doesn’t seem like the same Jay that was in ‘Over the moon’ Feels like two different people.

I’ve read the books before this one leading up to Candi’s story, and loved them. This one just didn’t do it for me. One, it started off slow. Two, Candi’s character is doing too much. I get trauma, but something about the way she is written annoyed the hell outta me. Also, their sexual buildup seemed off. Something is missing in this story and I just can’t put my finger on what its is. 🤔 Either way, I’m over it.

I liked it, wish I could’ve loved it.
Maybe it would have worked better if we weren’t introduced to Candi in the other books. She had too much story to tell.

I think the story should have started with Candi’s past. Maybe not all the way back starting from her abuse, but the day that she called Drama. What happened that spooked her so much? From there more about her time in rehab and her deciding to leave the city.

I wanted to go thru the healing with Candi. I wanted to feel the confidence, self love and peace she got from therapy and doing the work. How she used what she learned to start healing her relationship with her sisters and start to acknowledge that Drama shouldn’t be her accountability partner anymore.

I wish there love started from friendship. That they both gave eachother the time to heal and grown from there trauma before starting something romantic or sexual. I wanted for Candi to experience true intimacy, and to know that sex isn’t always included in that. I feel like they had sex too quick and there first sexual encounter was off with him releasing on her face. Especially with Candi’s past, how men used to treat her and her body. Sex was one of her addictions. It should have happened after she had the right mental attitude, and the understanding that sex was more than the need to vent energy.

Even Candi taking an edible didn’t make sense. Would have been better if she decided to never use any substance to get her high, because she found out that the best High is the one that she gets from Life and love.

With there new found love and friendship they could have created Magic.

Just like To the moon I wanted, the past (trauma), the now (grieving/healing) and the future(/forgiveness/ moving forward).

I’m rambling. I want a do-over. I just think they both deserved better. I like Evelyn Latrice books. After reading To the moon I felt inspired and even thinking like, damn they did that, and I’m not doing enough 😆. I wanted a feeling similar for Candi and Jay’s story.

The way this story kept me in a chokehold the entire fucking time!!! I loved everything about it.

Before I jump into my review, I want to point out I read this digitally. I came in blind with this being my first book ever by this author. Our MCs have previously been side characters in other stories and what I liked... no absolutely loved is the fact that when the side characters in their story were introduced, they were highlighted, and I was able to follow a hyperlink in a new window showing me that character's story. I have NEVER seen that before. So, while it was small and didn't really impact the story, I loved that because as a reader I didn't have to go searching.

Back to the story. The way my heart broke for Candi and all the little girls who grew up to be women with tragic backstories and demons similar to hers. Based on what was shared about her past I'm not sure that I would have liked seeing Candi before this. It was a privilege for me to meet her while on her healing journey, so my heart didn't have to break further seeing her drugged up, tricked out, and reliving abuse. I was soo proud of her for taking charge of her life and making the much-needed changes to find inner peace.

I often forget that men can be empaths. Women talk about it openly, men not so much. I know that you can be an emotional gangster but rarely does one openly say I felt her hurt before she ever said a word. I loved this man so much. He has been placed at the TOP of my BOOK BOYFRIEND Roster.

I loved every interaction between these two. They were so incredibly open and raw. The communication was top tier, I loved the playfulness and their ability to just vibe. I went in knowing this was insta-love. I have read plenty of insta-love. Most of the time in that sub-genre authors will describe a pull or an instant contentment.

Evelyn didn't tell us there as a pull, instead the readers became spectators with front row seats and were able to feel the pull straight from the pages.

Highly Recommend!

Ain’t no way this the same Jay from “To The Moon”. Who was this man? Seriously 🤔. I loved Jay in To The Moon and was rooting for him to have a HEA so I was so excited for his story but this was seriously a let down. I would’ve rather no story at all.

Jay deserved so much better. And no hate to Candi but he deserved better than her as well. He deserved someone healed, whole and ready to accept the love he was willing to give. Because what do you mean she was just in rehab last year but she out here smoking (getting an ok from her therapist to do so, which was odd), taking edibles and drinking while also going to AA meetings🫤🫤.

At every turn in this book Luna name was brought up. My girl out there living her best life not even knowing she was placed in a secret competition with a crack head. And I Love Luna but this annoyed me in the book because Jay was a prize too. He was a good man. So her constantly being thrown in his face as someone he “fumbled” was crazy to me.

All in all I just didn’t feel anything for this couple. Their story felt rushed and it didn’t feel genuine or authentic to me. Jay having to chase Candi down in this book just wasn’t it for me.

Jayshaun + Candi (Magic)

What a cute, fast-paced love story. After reading To The Moon, I was indifferent about Jay & didn't really care that he was a casualty in love. This book gave him a completely different vibe. This man is beautiful & deserves all the love he can stand. I prefer it to be a woman who was completely healed & ready to love him with just as much.

Candi was broken. Her life was tragic & trauma filled. Her story was so sad. She was broken & just needed someone to put her back together again. It would have been special if she had done the work on her own.

Their love happened so fast, like the fastest I've ever read. It was cute, though. I think it could have been better developed, but I got the good parts. I wish I would have ready Long Night & Early Morning first, though.

Also, I know Luna is living her happily ever after & I don't think she fumbled Jay because her & Javen were created for each other, but I think Jayshaun is equally special.

Love a good cowboy! & the Beyoncé song references!

I Absolutely loved this Instant Love trope! “Yours to have Mine to Love” is an instant love trope! And I don’t think I’ve read many of these, but I loved this one! It is a stand alone book, but reflects back to “To The Moon” which still takes up space in my mind!

“Yours to Have Mine to Love” Jayshun is PRESSURE in all the right aspects! He’s described as love in human form, and there couldn’t be more of an accurate description of him!

“Candi is a lost soul in a new city trying to 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 herself. I wanted to give her a hug!

When the broken meets the healed.
And the healed is broken.
Like a train derailed and a superhero saving the day, their two worlds collide.”

If you read “To The Moon” you will absolutely love this book as well, as it mentions characters we loved from that book!

You will absolutely love Jayshun!!! And will grow to love Candi but also will want to hug and love on her because the load she carries is so heavy!

💖 Jayshun? He is love personified
Like, I need to know where I can order a man like that seriously, because if there’s a delivery service for men like him, SIGN ME UP. 😩💥

He’s everything I need in a man: patient, supportive, loving, and knows exactly how to show up when I need him most. He’s not just there for Candi; he’s THE support system we all dream of. I love how he’s not scared of her past, but ready to help her heal and build a future together. Can someone PLEASE tell me where I can find a man like that in real life? 🤔

And "Wanna Be " by the Spice Girls totally comes to mind when thinking of Jayshun. You know that line,''If you want my future, forget my past''
That's him! He understands it’s not just about the present, but loving someone fully, all their past baggage, scars, and all. Jayshun gets it and loves harder for it.

This man deserves ALL the love, y’all. Seriously. If he’s giving out love and support, it’s only right that it’s reciprocated. Jayshun is everything that every woman should have. This book gets 5 stars from me because if there’s a man out here that could embody the definition of love, it’s definitely Jayshun 💯 thats a man raised right

Love After The Pain

What becomes of a brokenhearted person!!!…Jay was definitely the epitome of selflessness after Mrs Luna broke his heart!!!…
There is someone for everyone and Candi found her someone in Jay!!!…I love that he didn’t apply pressure, but let Candi know that she was his person and he was standing with her despite how she felt about her past!!!…
He made it his business to show her she was not as broken as she thought and she was definitely lovable!!!…
Sometimes our previous love is only there to prepare us for the love of a lifetime and these 2 ppl were deserving of each other!!!…
Luna was not a loss for Jay and he understood that and allowed his heart to be free to love another!!!…

JayMfblack “The guy “( cause how you don’t like him) whaat?! Big Business

You can tell that Big Pete & Jolene made Jay out of love and they loved /showed him tremendously amount of love, how to love. The way he moved gracefully through to the moon. I had to go to his story soon I learned it was one cause I love Jay down . That’s a good ass man!!! And he deserves his HAE! I wasn’t rooting for them I was rooting for him (iykyk). My favorite quality about him how he could be soft and express himself while leading in honestly , Pureness and Realness love you unconditionally in all forms emotionally intelligent and that is so sexy. Jayshun that guy! Theeee Boss! Candi & Jay deserves it all!

Another one added to this Journey, with the world of Evelyn . 🥰💯

This was such a beautifully written insta love novella. Jay just wanted someone who accept his love willingly and he found that in Candi, even if she often felt like she was good enough. I was happy to hear about Jay’s continuation after his situation with Luna from To The Moon and I’m happy was long winded. We had enough background and character development from both Jay and Candi to make his story a match made in heaven. The family dynamics and support was also beautiful to see. The icing on the cake was the conversation on healing, starting over, therapy, mental health support, and adoption.

Your To Love, Mine To Love

Luna may have fumbled the bag, but like Jay said, she wasn't his to love, and I agree. Jay was a hood prince. He was loving, cool, sexy, and well-mannered. His mama raised him right. He knew that he wanted love as well as receive love. Meeting Candi was God's plan for him. She was his heart in human form. I'm happy that he was able to help Candi heal. She needed him. Jay stood on business with her. They were definitely made for each other.

Beautiful story of healing and love!

My Gosh 💜

Jay 💙 I am happy to see him find love because Luna 😩 played him. I want Luna with Javen but my gripe was they both dragged good people along unnecessarily. Candi was also one I hoped would boss up. Seeing them do it together was perfect. I am so skeptical about Drama truly having her best interest at heart because at the end of the day you are with her sister and a real example of the different way they’ve been valued by others all her life!

SMH Luna, Luna, Luna… I know the heart wants what the heart wants but I think your heart led you astray lol. No but fr Jayshun is everything! The way he loved Candi unapologetically was everything! Why can’t all men be Jayshun? Thank you for allowing us to read about Candi’s transformation bc she was a whole walking mess. Its everything!!!

I haven’t read a story this good in a while! Evelyn Latrice did her thing!
It helps to read the previous books in order for the full experience and understanding.
From Jay’s first introduction in a previous book, he was always that guy. Now we get to meet him full on and discover how beautiful he is. He reminds of that first love from the neighborhood when it was new, pure and life was still fresh.
All the feels here!

Always be talking that country slang.

I swear it didn’t click till i saw luna and solar name in the book. I definitely said THATS JEAN AND EM! it felt rushed but isn’t that what love at first sight is. what you want is what you want. I also love the countryness the book has. We all know about the country boys that just got it and to find out Jay was it, made the book ten times better.

Love in it's rarest form

This book was all feels. Candi found her person who would love her and her only. She also found that it was ok to love herself even after all the ugly stuff in life happens. Jayshaun was able to find love after Luna. Everybody should experience a Jayshaun type love. I started with too the moon and came back to Long Nights to finish with this one and man were they all good.
