When Poppy Isles moves to the small town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin and begins restoring one of the town’s most historic homes, the locals welcome her and try to unravel her past. Shy and afraid to create local ties, Poppy soon finds herself thawing toward the locals, especially the gorgeous, gruff biker, Colton “Fox” Sterling.
While Poppy settles into her new home and reluctantly makes friends, small construction mishaps and strange occurrences take a darker turn. A darkness hangs over the town pitting neighbor against neighbor as the temperatures skyrocket and Poppy’s ex-fiancé draws closer and closer, threatening to destroy the fragile peace she has found.
But Peshtigo has a dark history to rival Poppy’s own. In 1871 the town was already on the brink of ruin when the arrival of a stranger in black trailing blood, madness, and decay in his wake became the catalyst to the deadliest forest fire in US History leaving behind nothing but ash and ruin. Now as the anniversary of the deadly fire fast approaches, history is on course to repeat itself and there may be no way to stop it. With Colton and her new friends at her side, Poppy will have to decide if she’s strong enough to rise from the ashes or let the flames consume her.

Taylor lives in Wisconsin with her escape artist cat, Houdini, and a British shorthair cat, Makita, who might have eaten her last owner. Besides writing, by night, Taylor works the night shift as a dispatcher in a possibly haunted police station. When not working on her next novel, you’ll find Taylor traveling or planning her next adventure, watching horror movies - she says classic horror is the best - reading or watching shows about creepy history, indulging in sugary coffee drinks, singing badly along to songs on Spotify in the car, and obsessively planning for Halloween starting in July (it’s never too early). I won a kindle copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway and I am so glad I did!! Sometimes a book hits you at the right time and this was a perfect start to spooky season! Just the right amount of suspense, horror, spooky and romance …. What more could I ask for 👻 I definitely recommend for a quick fall spooky fix.

As she sets out to rebuild her life by restoring an abandoned home, the unwavering support and repeated acts of kindness from the community add a poignant layer of humanity's resilience to the narrative. The story's meticulously crafted twists and turns keep readers spellbound, always anticipating the next unexpected shadow. If you're in the mood for a thrilling read with a dash of the supernatural, this book is an excellent choice.
I read this within 24 hours. It was a good read. I enjoyed it, but the last 10% happened fast, and I wanted more of what was going on. It definitely grabbed my attention.
Could there be a more perfect book to release on Friday the 13th? I don't think so. This one's got it all! Romance, history, suspense, and a touch of paranormal. Such a unique plot - I really enjoyed it! Perfect book to kick off spooky season with 🎃
This book captured my attention from the beginning! I absolutely loved this book and found it to be a PERFECT start to the fall and spooky season!
The small town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin saw its fair share of tragedy when most of the town burned in a fire back in 1871. Enter Poppy, a young woman looking for her own escape from her past and a place to restart her life. She buys an old house, sight unseen, hoping to fix it up as her new permanent place in the world. She meets Colton at her place of work, who is also known as Fox, a local member of the biker club and there is a small spark of interest there. However, Poppy is reluctant to open up to someone.
To make things worse, the threat of what happened so many years ago is growing closer as she starts seeing this stranger around town where disasters are happening. If you love spooky, creepy vibes mixed with romance, spice, and some challenging topics then this is the book for you!
This book's storytelling was amazing and blends paranormal with the accurate history of the tragic fire that took place in this town. I knew when I saw the ARC become available for this book, I had to read it!
Poppy’s character development is one of the most beautiful things I have seen. Please do check the triggers regarding this book, there are some bloody scenes and mention of tough topics that happened in the book's past (it’s not current). The natural romance between the main characters was done so well. I rooted for them the entire way! Colton is such a sweetheart, too. He takes his time with Poppy and beyond the motorcycle and club vest, he is caring and helps anyone he can. “But even my wildest dreams don’t live up to the reality of you”
I loved the small-town feel I got from reading the story. There was never a time when I felt disconnected from the world the author built.
Honestly, I could spend so much time talking about this book. It has everything I look for when I want something that gives you short bursts of unsettlement while building suspense and romance. I felt like I was reading my favorite books by Darcy Coates and Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this book early.
A book I wasn't sure was for me turned out to be an amazing read, and one I am so happy to have had the honor to read. It will be one that lives in my head rent-free for a while.
It Rose From the Ashes by Taylor Fenner was a 5-star read and a beautiful amount of spice. The way Taylor took me on a journey through past and present and how it impacted the journey of Poppy and Colton both individually and together left me wondering until the very end.
The trigger warnings are real, so please read them. Taylor did a beautiful job with these moments in a respectful and kind way and helped me as the reader see the depths of Poppy and what she has been through to become who she is in the end.
Poppy the FMC is an amazing woman who has a past that makes her stronger than she even realizes. Her need to find herself a new life is a journey all the way through the book. The connection I had to Poppy on a personal level and how we both moved on made me feel so empowered through her growth. Her hard outer shell is not the only thing that changes her as the story goes. As she grows, so does her passion for renovations.
Colton, the tough looking, teddy bear, biker MMC, falls first for this new member of the town, and his desire to keep her safe only grows as his biker group looks to bring in a new member. Colton knows something is not right, but he can't put his finger on it.
The side characters and how they add so much to the story with their own stories and banter, and history make this such a great read.
Is it Poppy's past or the town's past that has come to wreck havoc on Peshtigo? If you want to know, go put this book on your TBR and find out. You won't regret it.
I decided to read this because I am a small town Wisconsin girl and books that are based in Wisco are at the top of my list to read. The supernatural element that Taylor used with a historic event was beautiful and unique. She stayed true to the actual events of the Peshtigo fire, doing her research (which felt a bit unnatural at times when a character would talk about it). You really felt for Poppy throughout the story and you really could feel the emotions with the bits of historical flashbacks. The found family aspect of the story was lovely, and I instantly could feel the small town effect happening.
I enjoyed this book immensely, except for the last 10-15% of the book. The ending seemed rushed and left me wanting more. But with the ending happening in Deadwood, it makes me want to have a book about that story too.
In 1871 most of the town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin burned after many tragedies had already been reported with the same strange man present. Poppy, with a new identity moves to Wisconsin looking to put her past behind her and start fresh. Unknowingly moving to a town that comes with its own haunting past. Colton, a biker who stumbles into Poppy's new place of employment immediately has eyes for the new girl in town. Poppy purchases this abandoned house that she begins restoring when weird things start to happen around the property. Poppy refuses to open up to people in town until she realizes the kindness in this small town that everyone has to offer. Poppy unfortunately has a visitor from her past causing trouble. A strange man also keeps popping up every time something goes wrong in the town, giving Poppy a creepy vibe. Now Poppy begins to wonder what is really going on.
I enjoyed the way the details were described throughout the book, especially on the house. I could really picture everything. The kindness from everyone in hard times really showed humanity's resilience, strength and the hope of mankind. The historical element alone made me want to read more of Taylor's books after learning that the fire was an actual event, I thought that was the coolest thing. This book was fast paced and the combination of history with romance and paranormal makes this definitely something to pick up for the fall season!
Thank you to Taylor Fenner and Two Moody Btches PR for this ARC.
If you're looking for a spooky romance with a lot of paranormal tendencies and a hint of spice, then this book is definitely one to read.
It Rose From The Ashes is the perfect mix of history and lore with present day, alongside strong themes and a small town romance.
All of the characters are fully fleshed out and have you adoring the majority, and hating certain ones. I loved Poppy, and felt her character was really real throughout the book. You felt her fear, her yearning for happiness and so much more.
I liked the overall story - let's rebuild the ghost house! And the little "bumps" along the way had me feeling all kinds of creepy and absolutely loving it.
I don't want to give away spoilers so bare with, but I absolutely loved the whole spookier themes. It really left you in suspense and made this a quick, easy and most importantly - an enjoyable read. I also appreciated how Poppy's journey of recovery from her past was handled as well. Heartbreaking but also somewhat empowering.
I wish the ending hadn't been quite so rushed, however I really did enjoy reading this and it's been a perfect introduction for spooky season.
This book was an enchanting blend of romance and mystery, offering a deeply engaging experience that held my attention from start to finish. While the story occasionally felt as though two distinct narratives were at play, each had its own undeniable appeal, and I truly appreciated the author’s ambition in weaving them together.
The relationship between Poppy and Colton was an absolute delight. Their romance felt authentic and grounded, with beautifully crafted moments that were both touching and relatable. Watching Poppy's character evolve throughout the narrative was a highlight, and their journey together was so compelling that it could have easily stood on its own as a full, satisfying story.
Equally intriguing was the rich history of the town and the air of mystery surrounding the house. There was a delicate thread of suspense running through the story, which added a layer of depth and intrigue. While I found myself wishing the eerie elements had been a bit more seamlessly integrated, their presence certainly enhanced the atmosphere. I would have loved for these moments to be more gradually built up, allowing the tension to simmer and grow.
Overall, this novel is a beautiful blend of heartfelt romance and intriguing suspense. The different layers of the story were captivating, and while I felt that a bit more connection between them could have enhanced the experience, it was still a wonderfully enjoyable read. The author’s vision shines through, and I would warmly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a mix of love and mystery.
3.75🌟 2.5🌶️ This book was a tad bit hard for me to rate because overall I enjoyed it but it did seem like two books melded together. I thought that the concept of both parts of the story were interesting, I just wished that they would have been woven together a bit more.
What I liked - I really enjoyed Poppy and Colton's romance. I thought their interactions were relatable and realistic. Poppy's story was interesting and I liked how her character developed. If the book was just their story only I thought that would have been good. I did like the history of the town and how it wove around the house. The spooky stuff was cool I just wanted more
What didn't quite hit for me - The spooky/thriller stuff just had pacing issues. I didn't feel it was incorporated thoroughly in the story, so, at times I did feel that it came out of nowhere and wasn't explained enough. I guess that comes down to I just wanted more
Again overall I did like this book and thought the different elements were great, I just wanted them melded a bit more
What a GREAT intro into fall reads. I loved the story. I have not read many thriller romance novels, but I have found another genre that I really enjoy. A paranormal component is perfectly included. I did start this novel on Friday the 13, I felt the vibes fit the day.
I finished this book in one day! I was hooked from the very beginning. The plot is constantly moving forward with several twists that I didn’t see coming. Fenner does the perfect mix of description and dialogue. I never felt that the story was dragging with too much description. The characters are so well crafted that I actually giggled with them at times. (I loved how Fenner incorporated a conversation about book tropes into the story line!!) I loved how so many names were connected to other books and movies. The paranormal component is woven through the story to make it believable.
I will be reading the rest of Taylor Fenner’s books! I highly suggest you add this to your TBR!!!
I had the pleasure of reading It Rose From the Ashes by Taylor Fenner as an eARC, and it was a gripping blend of thriller and paranormal suspense. The novel skillfully intertwines historical elements with the story of a woman rebuilding her life after domestic violence, making it both emotionally resonant and seasonally appropriate for the spooky time of year. The narrative shifts between past and present, creating an engaging tension that kept me hooked.
While the pacing in the final chapters felt a bit rushed after the carefully crafted slow-burn buildup, the story still delivered a satisfying and thrilling experience. There were moments where the book felt like two separate stories that didn’t always blend as seamlessly as I hoped, but overall, it was a compelling read and a perfect kickoff for the Halloween season.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into. This is actually my first book by Taylor Fenner. Luckily, I had a great time, because this book is fantastic. This book takes you on a crazy journey through a small town’s tragic past and loving present. We see Poppy learn to embrace the care and friendship offered to her, and we meet Colton, who isn’t going to let fear stand in the way of love. I can’t forget about Large Marge, probably my favorite character in the whole story. I mean, her past is insane. A true queen. The last 50 pages had me sitting bolt upright on my couch whispering “what the hell, what is that, what’s happening,” to my cat (he was the only one around, okay?). I was deep into it. And guess what? It’s based on a real event. I have a new current special interest, I fear. That’s how captivating this book is.
ARC Review: I was expecting my usual full blown romance, but this was not it, IN THE BEST WAY. When I tell you I couldn’t put this book down, I mean I 👏🏽COULD NOT👏🏽 The SUSPENSE. I was not expecting anything that happened, to happen. I loved it so much. I was so intrigued by the historical element to this (did I look up the Peshtigo fire? You best believe I did) and adored Poppy and Colton’s story wrapped up in it all. I loved how he learned to be more patient and was so determined to make her his. Even when her walls were sky high, and reading her story and having her overcome her demons was amazing. I also loved the paranormal element that Taylor weaved in there, it definitely kept me on my toes! I can’t recommend this book enough. 5⭐️ all around from me!
I was so looking forward to this book, and really, really wanted to love it.
The story itself it a good one. I wish there'd have been more connection or maybe anecdotal snippets of the awful fire itself.
However, the constant shifts in tense made it difficult for me, as an anal-retentive grammar snob, to actually get through. These constant reminders of horrible editing detracted so much from the story that I was disappointed. It read like a self-published first-time writer's work. I was surprised to see that she had written at least one other book.
That said, I will look forward to seeing any further books in what could be a good series. However at the first shift in tense, I would probably put the next one down without finishing.
I had never heard of the Peshtigo Fire, and that was what really drew me to this book. I love it when history is woven into a book.
Poppy had escaped her past and moved to a small town to start over. She had no idea what the pure chaos that she would endure in her new town.
She moved into a home that had a dark history and needed a lot of repairs and slowly things started to go south, feeding the element of suspense beautifully.
The other thing I loved about this story is the family bonds of the Motorcycle Club. It really went to show how much they help the community when it is needed.
5 stars, I flew through this book. Part history, part romance, part paranormal. It was fast moving, and really easy to read. Check your triggers, as domestic abuse is mentioned quite often, as well as some gore that may be hard to read if you are squeamish. Perfect start to my fall reading!
Thank you to Taylor Fenner and Two Moody Btches PR for three opportunity to read this as an ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
I love a good historical fiction book. This was a good one. Kept me in my toes, I def got a bit anxious and nervous waiting for the next balls to drop through the story. Jack was a factor but so was the villain. This is a goood story and thank goodness the main characters survived otherwise I would have rooted! lol just kidding. I’m going to have to read your other book now!! Thanks for the chance to read it before it releases.

It Rose from the Ashes by Taylor Fenner is such a unique blend of history, romance, and paranormal elements. I really enjoyed how the story had dark moments that kept me on edge, but also lighter ones that gave me a chance to breathe. The mix of genres worked so well, and the romance felt natural and sweet. The paranormal twist added a fun, eerie vibe that kept me hooked. If you’re into books that balance darkness and light with a bit of the supernatural, this one’s definitely worth the read!
I ate this book up! Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down until I had finished it! This book had such a unique blend of history, romance, and paranormal elements. As someone who lives in Wisconsin, I enjoyed reading it and being able to recognize landmarks. This book made me want to read more of her books. If I could give this book more than five stars, I would! This is the perfect book to kick off spooky season with.
I devoured this story so fast! Poppy wants a new start and moves to Wisconsin. What she discovers is a lot more than she bargained for. There was so much suspense while reading, and I loved it! The author did a fantastic job putting together a great paranormal romance. I loved her writing style, and I'm super excited to read more of it!
Thanks so much to the author and Two Moody Btches PR for the ARC!
Released at the perfect time of year. Thriller turned paranormal!
Watching the relationship between Poppy and Colton develop felt natural. Witnessing Poppy heal from her past, learning to trust again, and eventually fall in love - and Colton supporting her along the way, was sweet to read. I enjoyed their story alone but appreciate the authors love for history intertwined.
A great read to get you ready spooky season!
Thank you Two Moody Btches and Taylor Fenner for this ARC opportunity!
Spooky plus romance with a sprinkle of paranormal equals a perfect book to start the spooky season with!
It’s a great small town romance (that will warm you with a little spice 🌶️) that historical lore with the present day as we follow Poppy along on her journey of recovering from her past. Rebuilding, both a ghost house and herself! Ana easy read that, like mentioned before, it a great read to welcome spooky season!
As an ARC reader I was very excited to start my spooky season off with this book. I loved the development of the relationship between Poppy and Colton. As well as the descriptive language used to describe everything and the history of the town. I enjoyed learning new things and watching as things developed. The spooky parts were good but not very scary. I wish there was a bit more oomph in that area but if you aren’t too big of a horror buff than you will love this book!
I absolutely loved this book. I think what really got me was at the end the author explains how she loves history. That she melted history and her own paranormal imaginary into what this book became. This book made me want to read more of her books. The book was fascinating and leaves a thirst for what actually happened with the town.
This was so good. It has everything you could imagine. A little horror, thriller, romance, touch her and die vibes, and some dark themes. This was a unique story that built upon history. I loved the FMC and experiencing her grow into herself and find strength. I love the found family aspect as well.
If you love spooky, creepy vibes, traumatic passed, town history, small town romance, spice with some twists. This could be your next spooky season read.
Poppy moves to small town Wisconsin for a fresh start, where she finds more than she is looking for. However her passed and the towns passed both come back to haut her
I really enjoyed this book. I read the first chapter and remember wondering if it was going to be my kind of vibe, but it turned out to be just my kind of thing! I enjoyed the growth I saw in our female main character and loved the town's whole storyline. It was a solid read and one I'd pick up again. If you like a bit of intrigue with your romance this is the book for you.
