This book is a really good start to the series.. it doesn't explain much as to if the daemons and lumens are traditional demons and angels and how their powers work, or why they have sacrifices.. so its a little confusing as to what type of PNR this is, but that being said... the characters are pretty interesting and it held my attention the entire time.

This was not nearly as dark or dirty as I had hoped, but still, a pretty hot why-choose with intense, smokin hot men. I’m thinking Typhon would be my guy, but then again, if I don’t have to choose, I’d definitely take them all.
He stepped out of the ring in a hurry and nodded at Sara. “See you around, babe.” I growled possessively, and he quickly exited the room without looking back. Sara snorted a laugh. “What are you, some kind of animal?”
I started to respond, but Sara cut me off. “I’ve fought bigger guys.” She was taunting me, and I let the daemon smile behind my eyes. […] Blood rushed to my dick when she shot out a quick punch to my face, causing me to groan loudly. I felt her hand connect with my bottom lip and tasted blood. I grinned, letting it drip down my chin like a maniac. Most men pissed themselves when I let my daemon show like this, but Sara tracked the blood as it dripped from my mouth, biting down on her full bottom lip. “Red looks good on you, monster man. Is that all you’ve got for me?” I smirked. You asked for it, little girl.

Welp, I just ripped through that like me life depended on it. And maybe it did! Because I feel alive! This was absolutely, positively, splendiferously DELICIOUS and DEVILISH, and literally exactly what I needed. I went in ‘blind’, in that I didn’t remember what the tropes were for this book now the premise… and I’m so glad that I did! WOW! The character art, the story of our MMCs… it was all so fun and kept me hooked and in it. Clearly, since the was finished in a day! 😂😂 when I chatted with S.D. about this, she warned that I would be reeling after the ending AND MA’AM, YOU WERE CORRECT. How dare you… except that it is the perfect cliffy and I can rectify my righteous anger by reading the next book right away! If you’re looking for a fun Romantasy story with high levels of spice, this is it! Read it now!

Oh this was fun! And spicy! Is a reverse harem book for those interested.
And danggggg was it a slow burn. Not a slow burn on the spice/relationships but a slow burn on the fantasy/magic elements!
S.D Paine is causing me pain by drip feeding me info and I MUST know what is going on and what their powers are?!?🫣🪽
I liked that all the MMCs had very distinct personalities and was easy to differentiate between them in a group setting. I really feel for the FMC and her confusion in who to trust and her abandonment issues.
Also has MULTIPLE POVs which I always love, as you get so much more of a feel for what's happening with different perspectives.
Diving straight into the Novella 😅👋

• Are you kidding me with this book. Ughhhhh, so good. From the very first page the excitement/build of the story never faltered.
• Seraphina/Sara is a TOTAL bada$$. I wish I was more like her honestly. She’s a tough assassin chick, and can totally hold her own. She was on a mission of vengeance for the deaths of her mother and sister by the hands of the Obscuritas Cult, until the sons got under her skin. The 4 Princes/Monsters/Daemons 😏 excuse me S.D. way to write them all in the imagine of what most of us look for in MCs. You are the queen. Andras, Dev, Ty, and Levi. Yep, thank you very much. Most of the guys initially suspicious of her, but can’t get out from under her “spell” so to speak. The chemistry and tension is whew.
• I highly recommend this. It pulls you in and doesn’t let you go until the very end, when you’re left on a cliff. I can’t wait for more!

OK - first off - that ENDING! I need the next book immediately!
This book is steamy, sexy, snarky, fast-paced, and I honestly loved it. I read it in like 2 sittings because I couldn't put it down.
Seraphina, going by Sara, is working to rescue her father and sister and also seek revenge on the cult that took her mother and other sister's life. I adore her friendship with Tibby, her best friend and partner in crime.
Her way in is to cozy up to the four princes of the cult family - Dev, Levi, Ty, and Andras - but she doesn't know that these 4 also have their own agenda within the family. OK, I love all these guys. They all have their own quirks and attitudes, and varying levels of sweetness and kink lol. There is some darkness to these four, but with their snark and wit, it kept things still fun and sexy, and not too dark for me.
Being the first book, there is some initial world building into what the Daemons and Lumens are, and I really hope we get to learn more about them in the next books. I would love to see more of the powers that the guys have and learn more about Sara too.
I cannot wait for the next book!

I was so lucky to be able to read an ARC of this book. It was an absolutely phenomenal first book, action-packed, fast-paced, lots of humour, amazing spice, so many twists and turns. Sara was an amazing FMC, and her guys are all drool worthy. And a heartstopping cliffhanger!! I need book 2 like yesterday, lol.

I knew going into this it was part of a series, and yet the ending still knocked me for six, I desperately need to know what happens next😭

Wow, wow, wow! What a read! I am currently left absolutely reeling. This was a PHENOMENAL book and everyone needs to read it now. It has everything…. a magic system, spice, so much yummy spice! It has an amazing story line and one bad ass FMC! The twist and turns had me gasping and ready to throw hands! And that ending absolutely blew my mind and left me so pissed!!! But, obviously in the best ways because now I need to dive into Resurrection for answers!

Retaliation sends you on a dark and mysterious quest. The characters are easy to enjoy and the discovery of the world has a slow and nice progress as the story advances, which makes for a very enthralling read. I love a strong and confident heroine and Seraphina was just that. The princes, of course, all were impossible to resist. I adore that they all had their distinct personality and traits, I really need an easy way to differentiate all characters when there are more than 2 POVs (it’s a fish memory problem). This is a spicy one my friends, like probably the spiciest I have read so far! It was also my first why-choose romance so maybe that’s why haha (can’t say I didn’t enjoy it though, who knew!)
One thing that really bothered me though is the amount of time people winked in that book (and I cannot believe I'm saying this because I'm team pro winking in my buddy read group but... there is a limit to my love for it). I wish I'd read on my kindle to get a wink count. It was CRAZY. There sure was a bit of repetitions too in the writing and also in the way everything was happening. Like they all gave her a nickname right away. All were obsessed instantly. So it felt like always starting the same story with a different guy but it's still all happening the same kind of way, if it makes sense? Made everything feel less special.
I also felt like I was missing some big world building elements at times. Some stuff really was surprising to me almost coming out of nowhere and making me feel like I'd miss something somewhere.
It was definitely a spice over plot, to the point where it sometimes felt like the whole revenge plan was long forgotten because Seraphina was so horny. I also cannot say I felt any love in this story, no time to really build a relationship honestly, especially with everyone's secrets, but they most definitely were in lust... So if you are in for the spice you won't be disappointed.
I'd say I was entertained throughout all my reading anyways, it just was missing some more depth and attachment to the characters for me.

For complete transparency, I signed up for a chance to review this book before I ever spoke to the author, but she has become a treasured friend to me. This, in no way, affects my opinions here. The story follows the BAMF of a main female character Seraphina Valdis as she and her best friend, Tibby, work to dismantle the cult that is responsible for the murders of Sara’s mother and older sister. To do so, she tries to get close to the Princes of the Obscuritas cult, Devon, Leviathan, Typhon, and Andras, four sinfully sexy men that Sara finds herself drawn to.
There’s a lot of flavors of spice to be had here and it is spicy. Also, proper aftercare after the rougher scenes? Yes, ma’am! There are trigger warnings, so before hopping into this sexy romp, please check them because your mental health is most important here.
I was immediately drawn into the Daemons and Lumens world and for the first time in quite a while, I couldn’t put this book down. The banter between the characters is top notch. While I can usually pick my favorites with a Why Choose, I had a really hard time doing so. I have a least favorite for sure.
I need more. I can’t wait for the sequel. I recommend this for anyone who likes their characters dark and a little flawed, and absolutely easy to love. This is easily my favorite book of 2024.

This is the first time I have read S. D. Paine and it certainly won’t be my last!
Seraphina has been killing her way around the world trying to avenge her mother and oldest sister’s deaths. Her father and sister left her behind and fled. Seraphina is determined to find them and end the cult who murdered her mom and sister.
With her tech savvy bff by her side, Seraphina is determined to end this cult once and for all, starting with the your Obscuritas Princes. However, she was not anticipating growing feelings towards them. Will she be able to compelled the job, or will she end up falling for the enemy?
As soon as I read the first page, I was hooked. The action, the story telling and the SPICE!! This amazing story has everything I needed and more! I haven’t found great fantasy in a while, and I am so glad I read Retaliation.
I love the fact that even though the Princes are the enemy, Seraphina still develops feelings for them. Through all the heartache she has been through, she still find love in her heart. And the chemistry between them is HOT! The amount of spice was perfect to contribute to the story! S. D. Paine did an amazing job at detailing Seraphina story! I cannot wait to continue this series and will definitely recommend to everyone! If you love fantasy and spice, this book is for you! 4.5 ⭐️ from me!

I did not expect to find this book as hot as I did and thank you so much for making it so! They're her enemy and all they want is for her to crave them just as much as they crave her. I have no other words than to say how I loved the twist and turns of this book (yes I loved the smut but we have real plot here too! lol)

This is one of the best books I've read this year, unbelievable!
It has everything, sassy princes, a badass FMC, tension, and an incredible relationship between the characters.
I am beyond a fan of this book and can't wait for the next book from this author!

i expected something entirly different.
plot was more of a background thing. and smut on the foreground.

The cliffhanger!!! I am in desperate need of the next book!!! The MMCs all had distinct personalities and were easy to keep separated. Some why choose books the MMCs bleed together. I wish there was a little more information about the supernatural aspects but I think that is done purposely and more will be revealed.

I loved reading this book! From the banter to the spice! The characters were entertaining, plus there is a badass female main character.
Does said badass end up surrounded by not one, but FOUR dangerous monsters who are lethal in every way, yet still manage to handle herself? Yess.
Does she make them fall to their knees? Guess you’ll have to see.
I can’t wait for the second book because that cliffy was a doozy. I need answers asap!

I am happy that I received an ARC copy of Retaliation.
it’s author SD Pain’s debut book and I am not disappointed.
The book is a fun combination of dark romance and paranormal elements.
It’s a fast paced interesting story. The characters are fun and easy to like.
That being said, the story did feel slightly predictable up until the end. I didn’t see that coming. Right now it doesn’t make sense to me yet and I hope there’s a reason other then shocking the reader.
Without spoiling anything I did miss some explanation about certain topics. Maybe they get more clear in the next? But it did leave me with some questions.
Overall it was a very entertaining book. Plenty of smut, exiting events and an interesting plot.

Sassy, fierce and endearing, FMC Seraphina is a new favourite of mine and I cannot wait to explore her journey further in future books from the Daemons and Lumens series.
There’s a whole backstory that I just cannot divulge too deeply without spoiling it for future readers so I will be minimalistic in detail and high on praise instead.
If you're a fan of well paced and gripping paranormal romance, dark occult-based secret societies, a revenge-focused main character, twisty turns and delicious why-choose options then this is your next read my loves!

In the first chapter, I wasn't too sure how I was going to like it, then I got to the first spicy scene, and my thoughts turned around. I definitely wanted to finish the book, even if it was just for the spicy scenes because they are 10/10! About half way through the book, I was hooked! With that, I think the actual storyline is really interesting, maybe a little cliché, but still really fun and captivating. Now, if you're a critical reader, this might not be your cup of tea, but if you read for fun times, good vibes, and amazing spice, look no further, this is for you! The MC is strong and independent, I cannot wait to get more into the lore of her abilities and powers. While they were mentioned, we never got to explore them in this book, so that's really something to look forward to for the next book. Even though there is a heavy focus on the spice and cat and mouse play, the story doesn't fall short. There could be some more world building when it comes to the lore of the daemons and lumens, but overall, I understood what was happening throughout when it came to them. Any loose ends or questions I have are things that could easily be explored or answered in the next book to avoid the possible plot holes, so I'm not too hung up on any of it. Now let me say, that CLIFFHANGER???!!!!

I was really expecting Dev to be my favorite until closer to the end of the book, I got a slap in the face! I'm really excited to see what goes on in his mind in book two because HUH. Halfway through, Dev started falling off for me, but I didn't lose hope until the end... Well, I still have Levi, he's my favorite now! I didn't think I was going to be a big fan of Tys character at first, but I ended up really loving him. I didn't really form much of an opinion on Andras until closer to the end, but I love him too. Now Tibby, I knew after that first betrayal, she was donezo, I was not expecting a redemption for her and it looks like I was right. I just really want to know what is going on, I need all the details of what's up with her and Dev... I'm assuming they are working together now, but was it always like that? Is it just recent? How long has each of them been working against Sara, especially Tibby. Was it only from her first betrayal, or was she never really on Saras side... I really got to thinking about it with the scene where Tibbys stepdad was first mentioned, I could tell we were building to a betrayal or big secret, but for how long was Tibby tricking Sara? I cannot wait to read the second book, and I really do highly recommend this to anyone who wants a fun and spicy read with an intriguing story thrown in!

I love a strong sassy female lead. This book had a nice balance of dark romance with paranormal elements. Overall it was an entertaining start and very steamy. However, the book started off a bit slow but as I kept reading I was hooked. The four princes!!! Just please send them my way, need I to say more. The world-building needs a bit more, but maybe as the series continues I will get a better understanding of this world. Now that cliff. I didn’t see that coming at all. This was only my second or third dark romance read and WOW! I absolutely demolished it and loved it! I was thinking maybe dark romance wasn’t for me, but this completely changed my perspective. The plot and revenge storyline are so engaging and I absolutely loved Seraphina being such a bad ass and strong assassin. The way she plots and uses whatever she can to her advantage is thrilling. Her bestie Tibby is the computer nerd sidekick and I loved the lil aspect of hacking and tech.
Then cue the morally black, hot Obscuritas Princes… 🥵🙂↕️🤚🏼 absolutely yes please! You never know where their morals lie or what’s too far for them, the diversity in each of their looks and personalities while still complimenting each other is delicious and soooo well done. I was on edge about them, while still eating up every scene they are in.
The plot twists were phenomenal and the world building, cult, and magic/paranormal aspect was light, but so intriguing. I’m excited to delve more into that hopefully in the next book. Also, the multi-pov was done so well and absolutely loved seeing things from everyone’s perspective and seeing the truth unfold slowly! Spice was to die forrrrr, the filthy words, taboo scenes, and the aftercare… the AFTERCARE!! ughhhh just all of it 🤭 amazing read and cannot wait for book 2! Happy Release Day SD Paine!

This is such an epic read. Full of twists and turns, you're never quite sure who to trust and who is an enemy. Sara is a brilliant fmc and I'm on the fence about Tibby. The ending was tough, I can't wait to read book two.
