Beyond the realm of gods, two cities stand at the brink of despair, and a dark destiny awaits Death's newest Maiden.

Long ago, Requiem was plagued by war and abandoned by the gods but Death saved the suffering people, giving each soul a hundred years of immortality. With that grace, he also sent two Maidens. One of Life, for healing and comfort, and one of Death, the only person in the world with the ability to kill.

Generations later, the Life Maiden is missing and Princess Deyanira is nothing more than a trained weapon. A hunter. A murderer wrenched into Death's dark court to have the name of her next victim seared onto her palm.

She is the enemy of this land. But, when she's given the chance to bring peace through marriage and finally show her father's kingdom her worth, she is viciously tricked into marrying the wrong man, ruining the future of the damaged realm. Her only hope to give something back to the world is to find the missing Life Maiden.

Now, eternally bound to her enemy and dragged into the dark burlesque show her new husband is bound to, she must fight to keep herself free. And her heart. Especially when she becomes the hunted.

“A deliciously sinful experience centered around a show of life and death at the hands of the Maiden. Fans of Kerri Maniscalco’s Kingdom of the Wicked and Stephanie Garber’s Caraval will love this story of the Death Maiden’s one chance to defy Death himself, combined with a searing romance that adds an irresistible layer of passion." - Jessica, @books_and_crafts

Note: I talk about how predictable one of the big plotlines was: spoilers ahead!!

In the realm of Requiem, residents enjoy a lifespan of a century—unless fate intervenes through the voice of the Death Maiden, an emissary of Death itself, with the singular authority to bring about the end. Death's impartiality is absolute; Deyanira, the Death Maiden, is compelled to act when a monarch's name is spoken. To mend the sorrowful consequence of this decree, she is obliged to wed the successor to the throne, but things take a turn when she's tricked into marrying someone else. Thus begins Deyanira's journey as she steps onto the stage of destiny, tasked with forging a path toward harmony in her kingdom.

Till Death by Miranda Lyn was such a great read! I will admit, it took a few tries to fully submerge myself into this world, but it was sooo worth it! The premise was refreshingly original and engrossing which held my attention throughout.

Following Deyanira's journey throughout the book was captivating, especially as she grapples with the burden of her unique abilities.  I loved all the characters, esp Quill and Boo, they added a wholesome aspect to this book besides all the chaos.

The world-building was a little too rich for a single book, almost too much to handle. While I appreciate that the other books may delve deeper into the world, cramming multiple major plotlines into one book felt slightly overwhelming. The transition from one storyline to another, particularly involving the Maestro, felt a little messy. But, it was manageable, and I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this book.

Also, the big plotline of Life Madien was very predictable for me. I predicted it 35% into the book, based on this one quote:

I stepped closer, blinking several times until I realized a few clusters of my lashes had turned white. Drained of color entirely.

When I read this. I had a thought… what if

Anywaysss!

Overall, this was amazing! This unique world was refreshing, and the romance buildup was perfect! I loved all the characters.  I'm eagarly awaiting the next book, Nevermore!! Looking forward to reading about Paesha!

I’m grateful I was able to read the arc and I was really trying my best to like this book but it fell flat for me. The characters seemed one-dimensional, the relationships were forced and the world building was confusing. I felt like the author tried hard to make her writing seem poetic and eloquent when it really just made the story confusing. Things were revealed as if we already knew what was happening (i.e. only she could kill people, that should have been mentioned at the very beginning). The story was choppy with so many random revelations that happened with no further explanation. I didn’t feel a connection to the characters and I felt like the FMC and MMC hardly interacted then were suddenly obsessed with each other? And her nickname for him…Fluffy Bottom? How old are we? It wasn’t a slow burn, just a confusing path that ended.

Kingdom of the Wicked meets Caraval with a heaping dose of tension and spice! I was obsessed from start to finish.

The world barely survived the wrath of warring Gods. As a sort of apology to humans, the Gods gifted them with semi-immortality. Everyone would live to see 100 years unless taken early by the Death Maiden.

The Maiden is cursed by Death himself to end those who he brands into her skin. Every mark takes more and more of a toll. Until one day the name marked on her skin is that of a rival kingdom. Having no other choice, she makes her move. Her father is the current king of her own kingdom and tries to salvage the situation and avoid war by arranging a marriage. Only it doesn't quite go as planned. When a handsome stranger offers the Maiden a choice- she takes it.

Kingdoms will fall and underground powers will rise. One man, a burlesque show runner collects his performers by trapping them in deals- delivering sinful shows every night, at a price. A shady magic dealer who binds people with contracts and Gods who never strayed too far from the world. Some are worse than others, dealing out their own form of chaos.

The Maiden bites off more than she can chew as the world tumbles into ruin. A musician, a huntress and handful of people will become her salvation and her weakness. They will teach her what it means to live and love when all she has ever known is death.

A deliciously sinful experience centered around the show of life and death at the hands of the Maiden. Huge thank you to the author for letting me read this WAY early. I appreciate you. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Adult fantasy but add in Moulin Rouge vibes, Gods and Goddesses, found family and a whole lot of action.

Okay, first of all, I listened to the audiobook of this while I read along with the physical, and WOW. The instrumental music and duet narration really stepped it up a notch. Probably one of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to.

I really enjoyed this! The storyline was interesting and there was lots of action. I especially loved the found family aspect. I feel like it’s hard to really make someone feel for a found family in a standalone book, but this one did it for me. Dey, the FMC was powerful all on her own, but was even more powerful with her chosen family beside her.

Banter, plot twists and turns, and a little bit of spice. So good!

From the very first chapters, Lyn grabs you and doesn’t let you go. It’s a story of deceit, of betrayal, of impossible choices, found family, redemption and love. A true enemies to lovers, dark fantasy.

2.5 stars? This book was all over the place. It dragged so much, though it started off really promising. I loved the Moulin Rouge elements of the world, and I thought the premise of the magic system was interesting, but it very quickly became contradictory and confusing.

This book had no business being over 600 pages. There's time jumps, and so many completely unnecessary things were included that had no significance. Meanwhile, there were things that should have been fleshed out much more but weren't. The dialogue was strange. Sometimes, it felt as though the author was trying to be too profound or poetic and it resulted in disjointed, clunky conversations. Even how the characters physically moved through some of the scenes was jarring. I had to reread passages wondering if I'd just missed how a character had ended up over there/doing that, etc, but no.

The characterisations and motivations were muddled, and I didn't really connect with any of them. The FMC winged it through this whole book despite the fact she's meant to be highly trained/skilled/cunning/powerful. AND THE ROMANCE?! I have no idea how or when or WHY the FMC and MMC fell in love. It's completely beyond me.

This is a standalone (interconnected) romantasy and that was appealing because sometimes I want to enjoy a story without committing to a 3/4/5 book series. But I've finished this book and been left without any desire at all to pick up the next one, and that says it all, I think.

This was my first book by the author, and I'd like to pick up her Unmarked series before making a judgement on whether her writing just isn't for me or not, but this particular book wasn't.

Wow!! This was so good. I did the audiobook + reading at the same time and I loved both narrators.

I will say, it took me a hot minute to get into it.. and I do think it was slightly long BUT then it got soooo good and I couldn't put it down. Badass FMC + a true enemies to lovers and I LOVE IT.

Orin is a freaking sweet talker!!!

Highlights
"You are a stunning little nightmare."

“I am not enough. You are the stars and the storm, Wife. Somehow, you’re both peace and destruction. Nightmare and a daydream. You’re hell and home. Fear and solace. Slumber and panic. Kindness and rage. Light is easy to love, but I’ve seen your darkness, and I want that, too. I crave it. I want to fucking drown it in. But how does any man live up to that? Deserve that?”

SOME PEOPLE SAY I LOVE YOU BUT THEN ORIN GOES AND SAYS THAT!!!!

3.5⭐️ Interesting premise. It dragged occasionally, and in ways that felt completely unnecessary but it was a fun read for the most part. I think a second pov from Orin would’ve really helped with pacing, and with the bits that dragged.

There’s a lot going on - maybe too many antagonists, which made each of them slightly lackluster. I adored the FMC, and her “found family” was also great. 🥹 The MMC I’m conflicted about, but I think there just needed to be more of him.

I’m excited to see where the author goes with the story. 🥰

I am stuck on how to rate this, because while I did like the characters, and how it ended, this story was unnecessarily long.

This book could’ve ended after part one, but kept going, into three different parts. I don’t know if that was the intention, but I almost felt like this book could’ve been a duology.

I did the audio which I think made it easier to get through- I loved the narrators and added cello sound into this story! It made it so immersive.

I did still love our FMC, the found family, and the MMC grew on me- and the Moulin Rouge aspect was real intriguing, so I do still really recommend this book!

Just go in with expectations that this book can really feel long.

3.75 stars (my rating could change) for me!

Rating: 3.5🌟
Spice: 2🌶️

Tropes/Themes:
- Adult fantasy romance
- Standalone novel
- Unwilling assassin FMC
- Mysterious, cursed MMC
- Moulin Rouge / Burlesque inspired setting
- Enemies to lovers
- Found family
- Marriage of convenience
- Meddeling gods
- Forced proximity

I find standalone fantasy novels to be a “hit or miss”, as I think it’s difficult to tidy up plot points effectively in just one book. This book is better in terms of doing that, but I still feel like it could have been separated into at least two books.

The beginning hooked me in. I loved the introduction of the FMC as Death’s Maiden, a chosen human who has the ability to unalive someone in a world where people cannot die until their 100th year. I liked reading about her journey through the book, as she really is misunderstood. This power of death is not something Dey wants, and is a real burden in her life.

I liked the MMC, but did not feel as connected to him as I did with the FMC, probably due to the fact that this is a single POV book. This is a true enemies to lovers romance. While I can understand when/how Dey started to develop feelings for Orin, I can’t say the same for Orin. The jump from “enemies” to “lovers” felt very abrupt for him, borderline insta-love. Orin and Dey also don’t have many scenes alone together (especially in the first half of the book), so having chapters in his POV would have helped to understand his feelings toward Dey. Overall, the romance felt somewhat rushed and abrupt. However, there is a bit of a twist in regards to his character, so perhaps including his POV would have been difficult to hide his “secret”.

The world-building was too expansive for a single book. I know there will be an additional book in the series following another character where we could learn more about this world, but it was too much to include two big plot points in just one. The storyline with the Maestro felt like a completely different storyline than the last ~30% of the book, where it focused on Orin’s big reveal and the Death god. The Maestro’s fate after Dey completed the three tasks was almost overlooked and conveniently wrapped up, just to set up the plot afterwards. I didn’t like that the world that was introduced to the readers at the beginning (and what the people of Requiem know as their “history”), was suddenly changed when Ro tells Dey what really happened between the Gods. There is a sudden info dump at ~70% of the book that basically disregards the previously establish worldbuilding. I also still do not understand how Dey just suddenly knew who the Life Maiden was, or why Death chose her to be the Death Maiden?

There were a lot of twist and turns in regards to big plot and character reveals, but not in a good way…. I contemplated DNFing this book at 60-70%, but wanted to finish as I was given an ARC. I finished the book with more questions than answers, and overall the book just left me more confused about the characters and their background than I would have liked.

Overall, I did love the found family aspect of this book. The characters, specifically the FMC Dey, were also likeable and relatable. I love the world that was created (despite it being a bit confusing), since I haven’t read anything similar in the fantasy romance genre, so it was like a breath of fresh air.

Thank you to the author for providing me an ARC. This review contains my honest opinions.

I put this book down at 46% 3 months ago. Safe to assume I’m never picking it back up. I just don’t care. This book started off really good, then just kept declining. The romance felt weird and forced. The world was cool, but was missing something. I have come to the realization that this author is not for me. Her books have potential, but they always fall flat for me. I wanted to give her another chance since I see the potential, but now I know for sure.

Wishes were for dreamers, and my dreams conjured nightmares.

Thank you so much to Miranda Lyn for giving me an early copy of this book to review it.

Welcome readers to Perth, home of Princess Deyanira Hark, Death Maiden and heir to the throne, also known as Death Maiden. In this world, the gods gave humans a very long lives, and nobody could die, unless the Death commands it, and here is where our princess entered the chat. She is the only person who can take lives, she had been chosen as Death maiden since her birth when her mother died. Some random day, a name is given, so a body must be delivered (I loved this quote and knew I had to use it here 😀). But *insert here the audio* Surprise, surprise, the name is a very special one, is the name of the king of Silbath, an enemy kingdom. Of course Deyanira took that life and here come madness. To avoid all the problems this could bring, she must marry the new king, so a choice is needed, and my silence is required. I can’t tell you more about the plot, but it’s better this way, trust me.

So, this book is epic, amazing, sexy and the burlesque ambience was everything. Miranda did it again, and this book did not disappoint, here we have a great world building and a really interesting magic system and even more interesting lore. I loved it, my head is empty after being personally traumatized by this book.

Deyanira was such an incredible female main character, I loved her, she is a badass, she’s super strong and her interactions with Orin were everything. And talking about him, amazing, loved him too, since the first moment, as usual with Miranda’s characters. They were a nuclear couple and sometimes very funny.

Also, love this gothic vibes, and the found family trope was awesome. Another thing I loved, is that this one is a standalone book, so If you like morally gray characters and a good fantasy book without waiting for sequels, this is the book for you (and other tropes I can’t tell because of spoilers).

5/5 for this book.

A lush Moulin Rouge inspired world with death magic & forbidden love. What would you do for the people you love… become the hero or the villain?

This is a fast paced easy to read adult fantasy romance stand alone (yes stand alone!). It has a Gaslamp, moulin rouge world aesthetic… but were Death rules over it all.

There was a good amount of action woven into a richly layered world that I don’t see written a lot. I enjoyed the mystery plot that kept you guessing while you try to piece it all together.
This world is full of theatrics intent on blinding you to the dark misery filled world where magic lurks in the shadow of every corner.

What I loved the most about this book was that as much care went into establishing the found family relationships as the romantic relationship. This gave the book a lot of depth & emotional resonance as the story developed.

This is perfect for anyone wanting to be swept away into a fantasy romance full of dark devotion and eternal enchantment for the ones you love.

No offical rating. I was given this arc by the author. Review is my own thoughts.

Till Death was incredible! I did immersion reading with the audiobook, and let me just say, it’s one of the best narrations I’ve ever heard. This book had everything: arranged marriage, forced proximity, jaw-dropping plot twists, and chemistry that sizzled.

The slow burn? Absolutely excruciating in the best way. And the found family element? One of the strongest and most heartwarming I’ve read, I laughed, I cried, I felt everything.

Miranda Lyn is easily one of my favorite authors every book of hers is a 5-star read for me, and this one was no exception. I loved it so much. Highly, highly recommend

I loved the ambiance, setting of this book. It had unique elements to it like the Moulin Rouge vibes and a world where nobody can kill except the Death Maiden.
The MCs also would literally burn the world down for each other, despite a rocky start to say the least.
I loved Deyanira’s character, who’s a badass in battle but so fragile emotionally. It broke my heart to see her trust people only to get hurt and used just because she craves human connection and friendship.
This book also has an intricate plot, with may plot twists it can get confusing but I didn’t really mind it

I have lost the plot.
It had some really good lines; I marked over 30 of them.
There was so much potential & the concept was good.

But why was this book so confusing to me?
I don't understand what went wrong, truly.
I got most of it, but somewhere around the 75% I was starting to go crazy.

Not even going to rate this because it feels wrong, but I'm counting it as read because I did listen to all 19 hours of it.

Miranda Lyn checks all the boxes with this book. Swoony tension, the excellent banter that had me chuckling out loud, and the sweeping drama that had me glued to the edge of my seat afraid for what was about to happen next... all of it equates to a fantastic adventure that is filled with vivid imagery.

The plot unfolds like a classic film, with every detail painted on the page as the plot unfolds with Moulin Rouge-esque vibes. The characters feel as though they're real and not just characters on a page. I was gasping and feeling the emotions of the characters every single time anything happened, be it big or small, regardless if it was the FMC, the MMC, or one of the side characters.

I cannot wait for the rest of the standalones in the universe!

Miranda Lyn's Unmarked Duology is one of my favourite romance/ fantasy pieces so I went into Till Death with high expectations.

There were aspects I loved about this book, like Deyanira being an absolute badass, the whole underground burlesque scene and the found family (Hollis, Quinn etc.) However, there were parts I really struggled through and felt like overall, this could have been 100-2o0 pages shorter.

I also struggled with the MMC dark obsession with MFC, the countless throat grabbing became a bit much for me personally.

This won't deter me from supporting ML as an indie author!

This was the SLOWEST enemies to lovers burn and I absolutely loved it. I always devour books where she’s a villain and they TRULY HATE each other at first. Like they’re trying to kill one another! It took a long time for that first hate kiss but it was soooo good!

I also loved that this was a standalone Romantasy books. I often get fatigue with reading series so a standalone is a much needed reprieve.

I listened to most of this via audiobook and the actor’s each had a stellar performance!

I’m not sure what it was about the flow of the writing, but every time I picked up this book, I fell asleep after reading a few pages. The idea was good and the world was creative but the story didn’t grab me. The author spend too much time describing each scene instead of moving the plot along. I felt like the FMC Dey was presented like a total badass, but she was actually kind of defenceless and alone with only her weapon Chaos to comfort her. She was trained to kill, but was also quite gullible. I wanted to like her, but I just didn’t connect with her at all.

If you’re looking for a romantasy standalone with worldbuilding, found family, banter and that stirs deep feelings of belonging within you, Till Death is perfect.
I received this book as an e-arc and decided to go in blind. I didn’t know the tropes, didn’t know how the plot would unfurl and it made my reading so much better. I have to say the ending made me tear up as I had to say goodbye to a cast of characters that became family. I became totally obsessed with the Caraval’s vibe of Misery’s End and the different antagonists.
Miranda Lyn’s writing is poetic and the way she deals with complex emotions such as grief is very raw. The tension between Dey and her husband is sooo good you’ll want more.
I will definitely be checking out her other books.
