Set in Alaska in the late fall immediately preceding Pearl Harbor, Murder Breaks Trail involves a Congressman, a Senator and his daughter, an Alaska politician, a pretty schoolteacher, an airplane pilot and a grocer on vacation—marooned near a small lake where their plane came down. Against the approach of winter and the mounting tensions among themselves there occur murder and unexplained comings and goings in the new and ever-deepening snow.
This was my first vintage mystery. I've read a lot of cozy mysteries, but never read any in the era of Agatha Christie, Nancy Drew, or the Hardy Boys. Needless to say I loved this one just as much as any other cozy mystery. The setting was perfect, the characters were wonderful and the mystery was all around chefs kiss. I will definitely read more mysteries from this era.
I loved this book! If you are a fan of classics mysteries this one is for you. I also liked the unique Alaskan setting which is a refreshing change of scenery to my Texas home. The mystery is nostalgic and suspenseful that will keep you guessing. The writing style is really up there with all the classics we know and love.
