The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane.
Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats.
Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters.

This was an ARC sent to me in Goodreads, and I wasn't super excited to read it, but I did find it to be enjoyable. The book consists of two novellas: I really liked the first one and the second one was ok. The first was a sweet romance and the second was more of a crime mystery with romance mixed in.

I absolutely loved this collection of two novellas. It is full of heart, romance, and a obviously COWBOYS.
The first novella, which is by Linda Lael Miller, is about a single dad and a woman who has been cheated in love. It isn’t a love story, it is more of a story about a family forming and strengthening bonds. I absolutely loved this. The romance is a bit toned down in it, but Gideon (the son) and the two dogs (Ollie and Trey).
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The second Novella by Heather Graham is about a cop and a FBI agent who fall in love meanwhile bringing down bad guys who run a trafficking ring.
This was full of adventure, action, and love. The trio made it a fun read. I wasn’t particularly aware of Heather Graham before reading this Novella, but now I can’t wait to read more of her.

My rating of 3 stars is an average of the 2 novellas. I give Ask Me Again, 5 stars, and The Cowboy, 1 star.

I enjoyed Ask Me Again. It was a short, easy read. I would have liked an epilogue as I would like to know how the bullies were handled that bothered Gideon. The reader was left hanging with the outcome. Otherwise, I enjoyed the novella.

The Cowboy was a different story entirely. I quit reading Heather Graham a couple of years ago. Her new books are not as good as her older books. I only read this novella because it was part of the Miller book.

There were a lot of editing mistakes with this novella. DDLE was used instead of FDLE. It was gotten right, later, but at first there was the mistake. Later in the book, the senator's niece was referred to as the senator's daughter. At one point, Vicky's house was described. The author stated there was a breezeway between the dinning room and kitchen. Why would there be an outside area between the two rooms? You would have to go outside when one went from the dining room to the kitchen. That did not make sense to me.

You have Vicky hiking into the Everglades in a sundress. Since she could have changed into something else at Adrien's house, that did not make sense to me. She did change later.

As the bad guy is getting away, Adrien and Hank head to their boat to give chase. But they don't just run to their boat, they have to have a conversation on the way about how Adrien knows the area. They could not have been talking if they had been running.

Then there is a snake in the shower. How did it get inside? I assume this is normal around the Everglades. But when Adrien comes running at Vicky's scream, they fall into bed after knowing each other for only about 36 hours. This is typical of Graham's newer books. The main characters know each other for just a few hours before they are sleeping together.

Toward the end of the book, Vicky goes into Hasani's hospital room. He is surprised that she is alive. Yet, just a few minutes later someone comes in to kill her. Since Hasani thought she was dead, how could he have signaled someone in a couple of minutes as Vicky was right there.

There were just too many inconsistencies throughout the book. Plus, I did not like the dialogue. It reads rather choppy to me. As I said, I do not like Graham's newer books.

In Need Of A Cowboy by Linda Lael Miller and Heather Graham consist of two stories, The first one is Ask Me Again by Miss Miller and Miss Graham‘s story is called The Cowboy. Although both romances one is sweet and heartwarming and the other is action. In the first book Jack is shocked to learn his college girlfriend was pregnant when they broke up and he doesn’t learn this until she arrives at his ranch looking worn out and haggard with a 12-year-old boy who is Jack’s spitting image. Gideon has known a life of sadness betrayal and inconsistency with no one to depend on so when he moves in with Jack things couldn’t get better but then Gideon hopes they can after they meet their neighbors Harper Quinn and her teacup poodle Ollie. I love the story it was so sweet I love Gideon, Trey the German Shepherd and the little tea cup poodle Ollie. Jack is every little kid with no Dad or a terrible one dream of a father not to mention a partner. When he saw Gideon it was insta love and I was all for it. Love this novela so much. In the second Novella two redheads have gone missing from a local rodeo games expedition and Hank and his redheaded partner Vicky or the detectives on the case but because one of the missing girls is the daughter of a senator the FBI was also called in. Before Vicky even Meets Adrian as the FBI agent she first notices him as a cocky cowboy who is also doing the barrel chase in the competition. Vicky is the bait and she’s soon gets a nibble and finds her self in over her head, only to see a cowboy on horseback come to save the day. I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first but still read it and enjoyed it as much as I can I just found a lot of the things unbelievable as far as Sonny romance goes I think both the stories were really good at building up a relationship as opposed to instantly being in love with the exception of Jack and Gideon of course. I have read other books by Heather Graham that I absolutely loved and others may enjoy the second novella I did but not as much as the first.#NetGalley, #KensingtonBooks, #HeatherGraham, #LindaLealMiller,#InNeedOfACowboy,

In Need of a Cowboy is really two novels: one by Linda Lael Miller and the second by Heather Graham. Miller’s is titled Ask Me Again and takes place in Northern Arizona where Jack O’Ballivan, ranch owner, has just discovered he has a son, twelve years old, whose mother is there to try and sell the boy to his father. Gideon has not had an easy life and he is a scraper, as we see several times. Jack has a new neighbor, Harper Quinn, who run away from her life in the city and will be the school counselor when she starts in the fall. They quickly become friends as she tries to help him steer his way through his new-found parenthood. The Graham novel is called, simply, The Cowboy. Vicky Henderson is a sheriff’s deputy working undercover to try to locate two missing women. She was chosen partly because the two women were both redheads, as was she. She sees an arrogant cowboy in the rodeo ring, but immediately discounts him. Soon she runs into a dog lover who invites her to his place to meet a dog he is wanting to re-home. She quickly understands she is in over her head.

Turns out the arrogant cowboy is the FBU agent assigned to the case and he comes to her rescue, starting a manhunt, first for the two women, and then for the kidnapper/trafficker. It leads them on an exciting chase through the Everglades where she meets some amazing law enforcement agents from cooperating agencies. It was an exciting chase where she gets to know the FBI agent, Adrien, and discovers he is much more than the arrogant cowboy she originally thought. This was a fun chase through the swamps with entertaining characters and heart-clutching moments. Always a cowboy. One a fun, cozy romance, the other a thriller.

I was invited to read In Need of a Cowboy by Kensington Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #KensingtonPublishing #LindaLaelMiller #Heather Graham #InNeedOfACowboy

As a whole you have two good stories. I really enjoyed both of them. They are easy to read, and you'll really enjoy the characters. I will say that I think I enjoyed Ask Me Again just a touch more than, The Cowboy. Not by much but enough that for me ones better than the other.

Ask Me Again is my favorite of the two. I think it because I have a soft spot for single dads in general so when Jack's son shows up, I was lost. I will admit that there is less romance in this as there is the story of three people and how they became a family. You'll love how good Jack is with his son right from the beginning. Good start and great ending to this story.

The Cowboy is more of a romance with some mystery. They have to work together to solve a case. I liked these two. The story moved quickly, and you have a bit of humor in it even though the story line is a very important one. They are together a lot so you will understand how these two fell for each other so quickly. Good story.

I was so glad I read In Need of a Cowboy. I love novella's because I always know I have time to read the whole book in one sitting. I look forward to what's next by both authors.

Two wonderful stories by two of my all-time favorite authors! In Ask Me Again, Wealthy rancher Jack O’Ballivan learns that he has a twelve-year-old son, Gideon, when he shows up at the ranch along with his mother. He can immediately tell that Gideon has had a rough life with his uncaring mother, but loves him from the moment he meets him. Jack’s new neighbor, Harper Quinn, has moved to the area to begin a new phase in her life. She will be working as a school counselor after years working as a therapist. It was time for her to refresh after dealing with many heartbreaking cases over the years. Jack knows that it will take time to help ease some of Gideon’s memories of his first twelve years, but he is determined to make a better life for his son. As Jack and Harper become closer, she may just be what a lonely man and a troubled boy need.
In The Cowboy, Detective Vicky Henderson and her team are searching for a man suspected of kidnapping and trafficking women with red hair. Two women are now missing and Vicky, herself a red head, sets herself up as a decoy to lure the perpetrator to act, and act he does. Trying to find out the identity of the man in charge of the group has her attracting more attention as more than one attempt is made against her and her partner, Special Agent Adrien Anderson. The man they are searching for seems to have an endless supply of people that he has threatened to do his evil bidding. Will they finally arrest him, but will that stop the threats aimed at the two of them? I love a story about a smart female detective who knows her worth and is good at her job! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

In Need of a Cowboy by Linda Lael Miller and Heather Graham

This compelling book showcases two captivating stories, taking readers from the rugged Arizona high country to the vibrant Florida Everglades. Wherever these cowboys make their home, they are always prepared for a showdown—whether it involves facing danger or embracing desire.

Ask Me Again by Linda Lael Miller ***
Jack’s life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes a father to a 12-year-old boy named Gideon, completely upending the routine of this Arizona rancher. Things shift further when Harper Quinn, a beautiful yet burned-out social worker, moves in across the road with her adorable teacup poodle, Ollie. Jack discovers that this city girl is the missing piece in his family puzzle, bringing a fresh chance for love and connection. This heartwarming tale about found family, the joy of created family, and the unconditional love of dogs will leave you feeling uplifted and inspired.

The Cowboy by Heather Graham ****
In this exhilarating story, a barrel-racing FBI agent and a tough detective must set aside their initial judgments to unite in the pursuit of a cunning criminal mastermind who has abducted two women. With Adrien making his Cowboy entrance, teams up with Vicky, the local detective who is playing an undercover redhead, to track down the missing girls. The villain masterfully evades capture, hiding in the Everglades and leading the police on an intense chase. This fast-paced narrative features electrifying scenes and strong chemistry between the main characters. It’s action-packed and filled with drama, and I found it even more engaging than the first story.

In Need of a Cowboy
By Linda Lael Miller & Heather Graham

Two couples find their mates in this duet of cowboy romances ~ Fun quick easy reads that see perfect pairings after a bit of suspense ~ Great way to escape for a little while.

In ASK ME AGAIN by Linda Lael Miller the story revolves around Gideon, a pre-teen dumped by his mother on his biological father after experiencing what must have been a difficult time with his addicted mother. Jack is more than ready to take on the responsibility of his son, refurbishing the ranch he bought, and giving back to the community. Into the mix appears Harper who is a skilled counsellor and social worker who will become a support as well as a romantic interest for Jack. The romance between Jack and Harper is fast but seems “right” with only a bit of suspense before the HEA ending. Star Rating: 3-4

In THE COWBOY by Heather Graham we see two undercover agents making snap judgments about one another only to find that what they thought was true really was not. Adrien and Vicky work together to take down a kidnapping drug dealer and many of his cohorts before the end of the story. They seem to know quickly that they are meant for one another as do those they work with. This was a bit more suspenseful than the Miller’s story and filled with more characters that I wanted to know more about. Star Rating: 3-4 Stars

Did I enjoy the book? Yes
Would I read more by these authors? Yes

In Need of a Cowboy is a two novella book: Ask Me Again by Linda Lael Miller and The Cowboy by Heather Graham. The book reinforced my hopes of reading something good during the new year with the strong characters and fast paced storyline both books had.

Ask Me Again by Linda Lael Miller is a wonderful story of a family put together by various forces as they try to find their way forward in a situation that could be difficult. I loved how Linda Lael Miller was able to make a blended family without overmanaging the situation. I love how the characters were willing to work on solutions. Mostly the romance at the heart of the story was lovely.

The Cowboy by Heather Graham was a thriller with lots of police from different agencies trying to track down an abductor. The villain was able to escape, hide and survive in the Everglades leading the police on a chase. I was ever so grateful to not be with them as they tracked the man through the vastness of the everglades with snakes and alligators. The novel offered some great scenes and moved quickly along. The two main characters were fun. I love how their first misconceptions were so wrong about each other. What a fun read.

In Need of a Cowboy is a two novella book: Ask Me Again by Linda Lael Miller and The Cowboy by Heather Graham. The novellas read quickly with good movement and characters. I really enjoyed both stories. In Need of a Cowboy made me want to find my own cowboy !

In Need of a Cowboy is a fascinating double story book where strong intelligent women find a place to thrive along side of tough smart men who make a difference in the world. Linda Lael Miller and Heather Graham each have a story in this book.

The first is Ask Me Again by Linda Lael Miller which is an easy yet compelling read. This writer’s stories are so smooth , pulling you in from the beginning. Before you know it you are hooked, refusing to give up reading until you know the final outcome of the characters. This story of found family, created family, the unconditional love and support from dogs and the decision to make the right choice each day is such a lovely story. I have never read a bad story form Linda Lael Miller but many great ones where the characters touched my heart as twelve-year old Gideon did. 5 Stars

The second book The Cowboy by Heather Graham is very different with a master criminal to catch, missing women to find along with alligators and snakes. Taking place in Florida, the cowboy aspect of the story is different. Local, tribal, state law enforcement and FBI all work together marvelous to catch this mastermind. Surprises along the way but I enjoyed seeing the different groups work together in this action-packed story. The best part was the respect and attractive between Vicky and Adrien. 4Stars

In Need of a Cowboy pairs two powerhouse authors—Linda Lael Miller and Heather Graham—for one unforgettable two-state journey of heart and grit.

Linda Lael Miller’s Ask Me Again is everything I love in a western: family, forgiveness, and the kind of quiet heroism that sneaks up on you. When rancher Jack O’Ballivan discovers he has a twelve-year-old son, his world flips overnight. Watching him find his footing as a father—and fall for neighbor Harper Quinn—was tender and real.

Then Heather Graham’s The Cowboy switches gears to a Florida Everglades thriller, pairing detective Vicky Henderson with FBI agent Adrien Anderson to track a dangerous kidnapper. Fast-paced, suspenseful, and just the right touch of romance.
Together, these novellas capture what I call the “cowboy code”—loyalty, justice, family, and love that doesn’t back down. Perfect for anyone who wants a quick, satisfying weekend read with both warmth and adrenaline.

📖 Final Thoughts: Heartfelt + High stakes = A two-for-one western treat.

There are two books iln this boxed set.
Ask Me Again by Linda Lael Miller was a sweet romance about family.  I liked the characters of Jack and Harper and how Jack was learning to be a father to Gideon, the son he knew nothing about and Gideon is twelve.  That was quite a surprise to him when his ex, Loreen Baker, showed up with her son and left him with Jack.  I also liked how their new neighbor, Harper, had fallen for both of them and was trying to help them both.

The Cowboy by Heather Graham was the second book in this boxed set. It was a romantic suspense full of excitement and heart pounding moments.  I liked the immediate connection between The Cowboy, Adrien Anderson, aka the Fed and Vicky, a special undercover cop working on a new case and trying to find two women who had disappeared.  There was a lot of chemistry between Adrien and Vicky.  The story was very exciting and I enjoyed the ending.

I received an advance copy of this boxed set and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

This was a fun read with two novellas in one that were both fun and easy to read quickly.

The first Novella is about Jack who has a child dropped off to him that is his son he didn’t know about but now needs to take care of. This story is him navigating fatherhood while also meeting a new neighbour who he takes a shine to and is a sweet romance between the two, almost kind of the setting up of their relationship.

The second Novella was very different to the first as there’s a lot of action in this story. We follow Adrien who comes to town on a job undercover where he meets Vicky, a local detective who was also undercover. We follow them as they track down members of a trafficking ring through while they also get tracked themselves. This story only spans over a few days but on the job they’re together 24/7 and they fall fast.

Two books in one!
Linda's story is about Jack and his former girlfriend showing up with his twelve-year-old son that he didn't know about. She drops off Gideon who is the spitting image of his father; of course she wants money from Jack. Harper Quinn has moved across the road and is a former social worker and is going to work in the school system. Jack is learning to naviagate being a father and Harper is getting over a broken engagement. The two connect immediately and as Gideon is learning about a stable home life. Wonderful story.
Heather is writing about Vicky a police detective working a missing girls report. Adrien is FBI sent in to investigate the two cases. Adrien and Vicky are working together to bring down the group and find that the sparks are flying between the two of them.

I was given a chance to read this thanks to NetGalley.

In Need Of A Cowboy is two quick novellas in one book. The first being written by Linda Lael Miller. She has such a way with words and this book is great! It's a quick paced book and I like how quickly Jack takes to being a father to a boy he didn't know he had. I love how the attracting between Jack and his neighbor quickly forms. Though to me, some of it seems a little awkward. The second book, written by Heather Graham, wasn't quite what I was expecting. By the end of the first chapter I was a little confused and felt a little like I was reading a novella for teenagers. Just didn't quite capture my attention as quickly as I would have hoped.

Two very different Cowboy books by two very different authors!

Linda Lael Miller's contribution to this book is 'Ask Me Again', which tells the story of a child Jack knew nothing about, and the new social worker, Harper, who bought property across the road from his ranch.

When Jack's college girlfriend dumps Gideon on him, Jack has no doubt the boy is his. Twelve year old Gideon, doesn't know if he should trust this new man. Harper helps both of them by showing Jack how to be a father and Gideon how to trust adults.

A typical heartwarming ending.

Heather Graham's book is much more gritty. Women are being kidnapped and sold into slavery or worse. Vicky a local law enforcement officer has a similar appearance as the women being targeted. Her department has asked the FBI for help. With Vicky as the bait, she doesn't meet the 'new' FBI guy, Adrian, until he rescues her from her kidnapper. With time running out, Vicky, her partner Hank, and Adrien go looking for the other kidnap victims.

Very fast paced and gripping.

I like sweet stories and I like seat of your pants thrillers. In Need of a Cowboy was a great pairing for me!

LLM's story was very short, sweet and very closed door as in so closed it's not in the story at all..lol.
I did like it, the feel and the characters, would def push the author up on my tbr.

Heather Graham's story was the longer one, a rom suspense and this baby had problems. It is an arc so hopefully the editing and inconsistencies will be managed. However, the first half felt like it was written by an entirely different author. The dialogues, the characters, the "romance", none it felt like HG's voice. The second half saved the story for me, the smex is not actually on page,so something to keep in mind.

Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington books for the arc.

The Cowboy by Heather Graham *****
This story starts out with the two main characters forming mistaken impressions of the other person. It is filled with suspense, danger, camaraderie, family, and romance. I loved the mix of characters and that there was some humor in the story also.

Ask Me Again by Linda Lael Miller ***
This is sweet romance involving a rancher who learns he has a 12-year-old son and a burned-out social worker who has just moved in across the road. For me, it felt like their relationship had progressed quickly even though there weren't that many interactions between them.

The first part of the book by Miller, “Ask Me Again,” should have been a book on its own and a fuller story. It had a great plot with so much more potential than it had being a novella. Two great plots within with Gideon, being left/sold, to his own father of whom he knew nothing plus the love story developing between the dad and pretty, new neighbor across the road. It ended too quickly but still a good story.
“The Cowboy” by Graham just did not grab me. I like the idea of the story where cowboy FBI agent assists local LEOs in hunting down very bad criminals involved in trafficking. But I can’t say it was the best I have read by Graham. I just did not love it.

There are two stories in this book the first is about a rancher who becomes a father and looking for help and the female character is a burnout social worker. They mesh in that they both have a similar outlook on life, so it was not a touchy-feely love story at least the way I took it. Still a good story with good characters.
The second book has an FBI agent and a cop who get together to try to bring down a trafficking ring, this has more action and the two characters are into each other while trying to work and solve the case. A good book as well.

Two excellent novellas! Each one grabs you right from the start and when they say cowboys, the are cowboys in the story. In Ask Me Again, single dad meets his other half across the road. And love The Cowboy, yes we do have cowboys in Florida! Was nonstop action through the story. Set in the Everglades and has several branches of law enforcement working together to bring down the bad guys. A bit unbelievable that everything fell into place that easily, but a it’s a lot of story to fit into a novella. #InNeedofaCowboy

What's better than a cowboy romance? Two cowboy romances in one book :) Both of these stories were well written, and overall makes me with men were more like these guys. If I had to pick a favorite though, I did enjoy "The Cowboy"by Heather Graham a little more than "Ask Me Again" by Linda Lael Miller, but I still loved and enjoyed them both. I could not put either one down, so I had the whole book read in an afternoon. I loved that both stories were unique, the characters were interesting, and the romance *chef's kiss*. Very enjoyable read, highly recommend.

There is nothing I enjoy more than reading a sweet romance and when that romance features a cowboy, I am one happy lady. 𝗜𝗡 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗪𝗕𝗢𝗬 was enjoyable from start to finish. I choose to read each romance between longer, heavier reads as a way to cleanse my reading palette and it was perfect. Both stories kept me engaged and were read in one sitting stories. Ask Me Again by Linda Lael Miller

This was a sweet cowboy romance. It’s a very easy read about a cowboy that finds out he has a 12 year old son. He meets a really sweet woman. It’s a heartwarming story that leaves you smiling at the end.

The Cowboy by Heather Graham

This short story was loaded with suspense. It had a fun atmosphere to it. The imagery was terrific. I felt as though I was there with the characters.

This is an excellent book if you want to have, escape reality, and read two well plotted novellas featuring cowboys and romances.
I usually read Heather Graham's thriller/paranormal stories and didn't know Linda Lael Miller. Furthermore I don't usually read cowboy themed romances.
It was an entertaining and enjoyable read that I recommend
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

The first part of the book by Linda Lael Miller was a great story. Jack O'Ballivan found out he had a 12 year old son and now he has custody and try build a strong relationship with him. The new neighbor is a counselor at his son's school and they begin a relationship. I wish the book was a little longer. I hope she writes more with these characters. The second part by Heather Graham was good also but that type of story is not my preference.

Overall I enjoyed both of these stories. Linda Lael Miller always writes a an entertaining, wonderful book. Heather Graham is new to me & I did like the story & characters but she has way too many “!!” which was distracting. It would have been better without all of the exclamation marks. I’d give Linda Lael Miller ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ & Heather Graham ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2 stars. I would recommend this book for a quick, enjoyable read. I voluntarily read for an honest review.
