The framing of this was very interesting as the story is told through the medium of a child recounting their story through a session with a therapist which I thought was very clever. Unfortunately the actually story is quite lackluster, has very little action and it ends very abruptly and without any sort of resolution so much so that I didn't even realise it was the end which was very jarring.
Well this book was a confusing mess. It is split into two parts technically with our main character telling us what happened to him (in past tense) but switches from him telling us to a present tense narrative which was confusing. The premise is that these new neighbours are “shape shifters” which is a cool idea. They apparently have nearly finished there one hundred year cycle to be able to reach there full forms. From then on it just gets confusing. Random things keep on getting added that don’t make sense and it all becomes a big mess of characters and backstory. The ending really didn’t make too much sense because of the confusion the rest of the book stirred up. 1.5/5 only because of the creative choice of shape shifters and one or two cool scenes.
