First creepers read and I think I have an pretty good idea of what this series is going to be like. Sort of a badly written goosebumps/shivers knock off that has a few gory bits in there. This particular books focuses on a family who are living in a small house and need to move. There dad finds a obviously spooky house for a suspicious price. Why you may ask, because its ✨ haunted ✨. Anyway this book started off with a lot of descriptions of kind of unnecessary things such as getting up, describing the house for ages and just a lot of chat about the family in general which took up about 20-30 pages. They only move into the house at around page 50 but nothing “horror” related happens until near the end of the book. It’s one of those books that tries to be very extreme with the most obvious examples being ghosts with knives and blood coming out the taps (I actually think this is a good thing though) the end does unfortunately become sort of a cat and mouse chase back and forth, back and forth. The villains were very generic, didn’t have much backstory to them at all but were a big threat and quite creepy. I feel like the book Is lacking on important character details and personality to build a solid foundation on who the ghosts are and what they want to do etc… fun little read but only a 3/5
I have read two books so far and I have noticed the author makes the younger kids sound older by having them say words their age group shouldn't know . it annoys me but anyways this story was to corny for me to give it a three and if you are looking to see if its ok for your child to read I would say this would most likely give younger school age kids nightmares with the details .
The storyline is not very convincing, dialogue is stunted and reads poorly. Again, there is too much description in mundane things (such as waking up, brushing teeth etc) and not enough time on the continual progression of the story.
Less than 100 pages, so I don't have too much to say about this one. The writing isn't that great, there's not much room for any suspense and the ending feels rushed. I like the concept of the creepy old house with a past.
