As translator of this comic book, who spent many days on analyzing and looking for the best possible version of its dialogues and narrative parts, I can only say it's a chef d'oeuvre of comic book art where everything is precisely composed, where art and words are in perfect harmony, in turns (and sometimes at the same time) informative, moving, and funny.

I have to admit that when I first heard about this book, I wasn’t excited. Despite being a huge Star Wars fan, the idea of yet another documentary-style book on the subject didn’t particularly appeal to me. I thought it wouldn’t add much to what I already knew about the franchise.

I was completely wrong.

First of all, this book doesn’t feel like a documentary at all. The entire narrative is told in a captivating way. While it does cover the many challenges George Lucas faced in bringing this film to life, it’s presented like a compelling story, without the dryness of a documentary tone.

The artistic direction is incredibly inviting and blends perfectly with the story. The writing is so immersive that I lost track of time during many parts of the book.

It’s truly impressive to witness the struggles that went into creating one of the biggest successes in the history of cinema and art. The lack of vision from studio heads funding these projects is glaring, and it’s something we still experience today.

The ending is immensely satisfying for the reader; I can’t even begin to imagine how it must have felt for Lucas himself.

In short, everything about this book is fantastic. It’s packed with delightful details. A must-read for fans of both cinema and art.

Easiest five stars I've given!! This book, which I actually did not read this edition, but the Portuguese one, published by Arte de Autor (not yet available on Goodreads, but definitely in stores), was incredible!!!
I'm gonna start by saying that if you've read/watched other things about Star Wars, you're not gonna particularly learn a lot of new things, but just like Star Wars is a new interpretation of the Hero's journey, and you have an incredible time watching it, you'll have an incredible time reading this!!!
The book starts by covering and focusing on George Lucas, from childhood to his first projects, and then moving into the making of Star Wars, it expands and I LOVE how it explores the cast and crew, the dynamics between them - not sure if every scene is factual but it is based on the things we've heard about the making of the movie - and then the aftermath of the movie coming out is just joy on paper (instead of just numbers on paper), and as someone who wasn't alive then, it makes you feel that excitement!!!
Moving on to the art, it's beautiful, it's simple with large strokes, but they get the faces so perfectly, from the start with George Lucas, but as the start introducing Spielberg and Coppola, you see them, same with the casting and the introduction of ILM!!! And then I love the sporadic use of color, it brings something to those panels, and especially when you're using to showring us the movie (or the early ideas for what would be the movie)!!!
This is just a must read for Star Wars fans, both if you've not explored a lot of the behind the scenes, so you'll learn new things, or even if you know the facts here, you'll still have a good time with the way it's told!!! Just recommending it wholeheartedly!!!

No puedo ser muy objetivo con todo lo que trate sobre Star Wars o su director George Lucas, porque durante gran parte de mi vida me ha dado una obra que me ha acompañado en los mejores y peores momentos. Este cómic narra el origen, rodaje y estreno de la primera película, al estilo de la miniserie de The Offer (que relataba el accidentado rodaje de El Padrino), y aunque hay algunas licencias poéticas, puedo decir sin duda alguna que me ha parecido un gran cómic, muy entretenido, con un excelente estilo visual… y espero que tengamos nuevas entregas en cómic de la creación de la saga más grande de todo los tiempos. Hasta entonces, que la Fuerza (y los sueños) nos acompañe. Gracias, abuelito Lucas.

As Guerras de Lucas está mais para um quadrinho documentário sobre como Star Wars veio a ser do que uma biografia de George Lucas. As partes que explicam o background e a personalidade do homem por trás da Guerra nas Estrelas são importantes, mas não são o núcleo duro desta graphic novel. A parte que os autores mais se demoram são nas negociações entre a produção do filme e os estúdios. Uma das partes que mais gostei é quando os autores da graphic novel apresentam em forma de imagens as versões e mais versões dos roteiros que Lucas apresentou para a 20th Century Fox e não pude deixar de ficar emocionado quando acompanhei o momento em que ele tem contato com O Herói de Mil Faces, de Joseph Campbell, o catalisador da versão definitiva de Star Wars. As cores utilizadas nas páginas de A Guerra de Lucas acentuam essa percepção de quadrinho documental, aumentam a veracidade, ao mesmo tempo que os elementos estéticos das tonalidades ajudam a entender também a publicação como uma narrativa ficcional. No conjunto tudo funciona muito melhor porque o leitor já é iniciado no universo de Star Wars e essa é uma nova camada de uma história e de personagens que gerações de espectadores aprenderam a admirar.

Pur avendo letto già la storia nella bellissima biografia di Lucas di Brian Jones, qua il fumetto fa un ottimo lavoro. Anche se sai che sarà un successo non puoi non provare tensione per la situazione.

La realizzazione del film Guerre stellari, classe 1977 e film destinato a riscrivere i canoni del genere, ha una storia molto travagliata. Quasi nessuno, infatti, riuscì a capire il talento visionario di George Lucas all'inizio della sua carriera e in pochissimi credevano nei suoi progetti. Questa graphic novel illustra come è stato realizzato uno dei successi cinematografici più clamorosi della storia, nonché il film che ha dato ispirazione a quasi tutti i registi presenti e futuri di film di fantascienza.
E' una bella storia, capace di catturare l'attenzione del lettore dall'inizio alla fine. I disegni mi sono piaciuti molto; sono semplici ma molto efficaci. Ho apprezzato soprattutto il modo in cui è stato usato il colore. Le tavole sono infatti essenzialmente in bianco e nero, ma tocchi di colore vengono usati per sottolineare oggetti o persone o, in certi casi, per dare più spessore alla pagina. Alla fine del libro c'è anche un approfondimento sui disegni che ne illustrano la loro evoluzione in fase di realizzazione: a partire da disegni iperrealistici, Renaud Roche finisce col scegliere tratti più essenziali che danno risalto alla storia senza risultare invadenti.
Nelle ultime pagine c'è anche il riferimento bibliografico dell'opera.
Forse è un'opera un po' agiografica, ma certamente un must-have per i fan.

tout est génial, l'écriture, les dessins, l'histoire ! tout, tout, tout !
toutes les références qu'on comprend au travers de cette lecture concernant tout l'univers Star Wars mais aussi sur d'autre grand du cinéma (Spielberg on te parle là) c'est juste incroyable. le petit "to be continued" à la fin omg, j'espère que on aura vraiment le droit à une suite de ce roman graphique (ça voudra dire Anakin omg <3)
mais en tout cas, si vous n'existiez pas monsieur Lucas, on pourrait même pas vous inventer tellement vous êtes unique <3

As a lifelong Star Wars fan (my username is literally a Star Wars reference), I was beyond excited to read Lucas Wars, and it did not disappoint. It’s fun, and gives the perfect behind the scenes recounting in a way that is incredibly engaging. It manages to tell a story that plenty of people have heard (or maybe just the people I’m around because of the aforementioned lifelong fan status) through art and dialogue that are captivating and have you wanting to keep turning the page.

First of all, Laurent Hopman does a great job at establishing details from Lucas’ childhood that contribute to his future creating Star Wars, then he goes into telling the story of that very creative process. He finds the perfect balance of sharing facts and definitions while not making it feel like you are just reading a simple story stating the facts. The use of dialogue and captions is probably my favorite, as it really feels like you are seeing Lucas go through this process and the emotions that come with it.

Though, those emotions couldn’t come across without the work of Renaud Roche who delivers outstanding illustrations. I have seen the original Star Wars trilogy more times than I can count, have looked at the main trio’s faces every day of my life for years thanks to countless merchandise items, and of course have a familiarity with George Lucas, and Roche captures their likeness in a manner that can only be described as picturesque. It feels as though you are watching actual behind the scenes footage from each of these events, which is exactly how I want a nonfiction graphic novel to feel. Also, don’t even get me started on the use of color. It was perfect.

So, in case it wasn’t obvious, I loved this book. I literally found myself tearing up when we got to the success of Star Wars in it because it really felt like I went on this journey alongside Lucas. If you’re a fan of Star Wars, I definitely recommend this book. Even if you’re not, it’s an amazing underdog story about a creative who just wants to pursue his dream, so I recommend it if that’s something you’re interested in. Or, if you’d like some more information on the behind the scenes of a movie making creative process. Truly phenomenal and you will be hearing me tell all my nerdy friends about it for a while.

Also!! Shoutout to the translators of this book!! It wasn’t originally published in English (the language I read it in) and y’all did an amazing job! :)

Ze swadą opisana historia Lucasa do premiery pierwszych Gwiezdnych Wojen. Fajne uzupełnienie biografii. Świetnie narysowane i skomponowane. Dialogi pełne życia, a często też humoru. Obraz jest równie ważnym nośnikiem treści, co tekst, a to nie jest w komiksach reguła (nie ma tu dublowania). Udana realizacja skondensowanej wersji tej historii.

Une superbe BD qui raconte l'histoire de George Lucas et de la production du premier film de Star Wars. C'était vraiment intéressant d'apprendre toutes les anecdotes de tournage et les péripéties vécues par Lucas. Jest to coś więcej niż tylko komiks; to prawdziwy dokument komiksowy, który zabiera nas w podróż po kulisach powstawania pierwszej części sagi - Nowej Nadziei. A jednocześnie bardzo emocjonalne i wzruszające dzieło.

Hopman z wielką precyzją i pasją przedstawia genezę filmu, rozpoczynając od młodości George'a Lucasa, kiedy to rozwijał swoje zainteresowanie kinem science fiction i tworzył pierwsze amatorskie filmy. Autor ukazuje Lucasa jako pełnego pasji młodzieńca, który stopniowo wykuwał w swojej wyobraźni koncept Gwiezdnych Wojen. Właśnie to jest dla mnie piękne, może jestem już stary ale historię o pasji i takim zaangażowaniu zawsze mnie ruszają. Doskonale rozumiem Lucasa i jego kłody, miałem takie same ;). Nie raz się rozklejałem bo wiem co mógł czuć Lucas. Aż za bardzo.

Narracja komiksu jest dynamiczna i autentyczna, oparta na solidnych materiałach źródłowych. Hopman z wielką dokładnością opisuje etapy produkcji, od pisania scenariusza po trudności, jakie napotkał Lucas, aż po triumfalną premierę filmu w 1977 roku. Szczególną uwagę poświęca ludziom zaangażowanym w projekt, ukazując ich pracę i relacje w sposób niezwykle autentyczny i poruszający. Na końcu komiksu jest dość długa bibliografia wiec autor zrobił mocny research.

Rysunki w komiksie są proste, ale jednocześnie bardzo wyraziste. Twarze postaci, takie jak George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, czy Francis Ford Coppola, są przedstawione z wielką precyzją, co dodaje autentyczności całej opowieści. Sporadyczne użycie koloru podkreśla ważne momenty i sceny z filmu, dodając im dodatkowego wymiaru. Koniec końców bardzo mi się one podobają.

Polecam ten komiks z całego serca! To prawdziwa uczta dla każdego miłośnika Gwiezdnych Wojen, pełna emocji i fascynujących szczegółów. Laurent Hopman stworzył nie tylko hołd dla George'a Lucasa, ale również dla wszystkich, którzy przyczynili się do powstania tego epokowego dzieła. To też bardzo inspirujący i wzruszająca komiks. 5/5 C U D O

Ίσως το καλύτερο graphic novel που έχω διαβάσει. Αν είσαι φαν του σινεμά -ειδικά του Star Wars- οφείλεις να το τσεκάρεις.

Το βιβλίο αφηγείται τα πρώτα βήματα του Τζορτζ Λούκας στη βιομηχανία του θεάματος και το γολγοθά που πέρασε ώστε να υλοποιήσει το πρωτοποριακό όραμα του για μια ('παιδική' όπως έλεγαν τότε) ταινία με στρατιώτες στο διάστημα.

Πρόκειται για ένα συναρπαστικό, ακαταμάχητο ανάγνωσμα, γεμάτο λεπτομέρειες και απίστευτες πληροφορίες.
Η έρευνα που έχουν κάνει οι δημιουργοί είναι ενδελεχής. Δεν είχα ιδέα ότι ο Λούκας είχε πάρει έμπνευση από το εξαιρετικό βιβλίο 'Ο Ήρωας Με Τα Χίλια Πρόσωπα' του Τζόζεφ Κάμπελ (όπου εξετάζει τα αρχετυπικά γνωρίσματα της παγκόσμιας μυθολογίας - το 'ταξίδι του ήρωα' κλπ). Δεν ήξερα επίσης ότι ο, παντρεμένος με 2 παιδιά, Χάρισον Φορντ και η Κάρι Φίσερ ήταν εραστές κατά την διάρκεια των γυρισμάτων.

Το βιβλίο κυλάει γρήγορα, έχει γεμάτο περιεχόμενο και, σαν φαν της ταινίας, δεν σας κρύβω ότι ανατρίχιασα τουλάχιστον δυο φορές.

Τα σκίτσα φαίνονται σαν να έχουν σχεδιαστεί γρήγορα όμως κρύβουν πολύ δουλειά. Εντυπωσιάστηκα από το πόσο καλά έχει πετύχει τις φυσιογνωμίες διασήμων όπως ο Σπίλμπεργκ, ο Κόπολα και πολλοί άλλοι. Υπάρχει αφηγηματική ροή που δεν κουράζει στιγμή. Στα καρέ θα βρείτε χιούμορ, δράμα, δέος μα και 'κλείσιμο του ματιού' για τους φαν της ταινίας.

'Ο Πόλεμος Του Λούκας' δεν είναι απλά ένα νοσταλγικό ταξίδι. Είναι μια κινηματογραφική ιστορία από μόνο του. Το πως ένας συνεσταλμένος και ντροπαλός τύπος με πολύ φαντασία και όραμα, κατάφερε ενάντια σε όλες τις συνθήκες να πραγματοποιήσει το όνειρό του. Γιατί περί ονείρου πρόκειται.

Αυτό που πέτυχε ο Λούκας εκείνη την εποχή δεν είναι τίποτα άλλο παρά ένα σπουδαίο επίτευγμα που συγκλόνισε τον κόσμο σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Πείτε ότι θέλετε για το πώς εξελίχθηκε το σύμπαν του Star Wars, όμως αυτό που κατάφερε με εκείνη την 1η ταινία δεν έχει προηγούμενο.

Το συστήνω ανεπιφύλακτα. Ακόμα και αν δεν σας αρέσει το Star Wars, αξίζει να το διαβάσετε. Όχι μόνο για να δείτε το πώς φτιάχνονταν οι ταινίες, αλλά για να απολαύσετε την ιστορία ενός ασήμαντου τύπου που απλά δεν το έβαλε κάτω και κατέκτησε τον κόσμο.

Las 5 estrellas se las doy como fan de La Guerra de las Galaxias, especialmente del episodio cuarto, cuya creación se narra en este cómic. Una narración fluida con cientos de detalles acerca de como se gestó la película y de las vicisitudes del rodaje que, a pesar de la extensión, no se hace para nada pesado. El dibujo es bastante sencillo y principalmente en ByN a pesar de lo cual los personajes de la historia son perfectamente reconocibles. Es un comic en el que se nota la labor de documentación y que es capaz de condensar anecdotas en apenas 2 o 3 viñetas. Creo que merece la pena ser leido si eres aficionado al cine y, sobretodo, si eres aficionado al mundo de Star Wars ya que se explica gráficamente como Lucas fue desde siempre un prodigio para el genero.

Splendida graphic novel che ripercorre le fasi della vita di George Lucas che hanno portato alla creazione di STAR WARS (1977), il film che ha rivoluzionato il cinema fantasy, fantascientifico e avventuroso.
L’opera si legge con estrema leggerezza, aiutata da disegni dinamici e fedeli alla fisionomia dei protagonisti rendendo la lettura coinvolgente ed emozionante. Ricerca storica accurata soprattutto nel suggerire le sfumature caratteriali e umane di cui è ricca la narrazione! Consigliatissimo a tutti gli amanti di Star Wars !

To był komiks od którego nie chciałeś się oderwać. Opowiadał prawdziwą historię, ale w sumie mocno schematyczna. O człowieku, który chce coś zrobić inaczej i ma wiele przeciwności losu, jest młody i lekceważony, ale udaje mi się osiągnąć cel i wtedy zostaje zrozumiany i pochwalony przez ogół społeczeństwa. Bardzo schematyczne i bardzo ujmujące. Widzimy kulisy powstania gwiezdnych wojen i osobowości postaci poznajemy. Dla mnie pokazał inne spojrzenie na film i nabrałam ochoty by do niego wrócić. A historia była skomplikowana, miała wiele po drodze scen, które ubogacaly fabułę. I tak scen to dobre słowo, bo komiks był mocno w filmowym stylu. Tak bym go określiła. Przezywalam historię wraz z postaciami. A kreska z czasem mocno mnie ujęła. Możliwe,że to dlatego, że wpasowywał się w coś na kształt dokumentu, ale z humorem i lekkością przekazu.

Lu un peu par hasard (j'aime bien Star Wars, mais je ne suis pas non plus une fan inconditionnelle, étant donné que, hem... à ce jour je n'ai jamais vu la vieille/première trilogie 🫣) j'ai beaucoup aimé en apprendre plus sur la processus de création de ce premier film et de toutes les embûches auxquelles George Lucas a dû faire face (et il y en a eu un paquet).

À mettre entre toutes les mains des gens qui aiment un tant soit peu le ciné, Star Wars ou les BD biographiques !

Una GN molto ben riuscita leggera da leggere interessante campire tutto quello che a successo dietro la realizzazione di Star Wars con tutte le sue complicazioni. I disegni semplici come ha bisogno questa storia senza tante fioriture ma veramente ben riusciti dopo alla fine l’illustratore spiega il perché di questa scelta stilistica. Veramente ben fatto.

Un gran bel regalo di natale.
Sapevo che Guerre Stellari, o Star Wars come si usa dire oggi, ebbe una lavorazione travagliata. Non immaginavo così tanto. Non sapevo quanto la Fox volesse tirarsi indietro, ma non faccio fatica ad immaginarlo.
I vecchi al potere sono sempre contrari alle novità. qualsiasi siano, o le considerano stupidaggini o non le considerano proprio. Che sia il cinema, la TV, o i nuovi social media. Poi arriva qualcuno con una visione e cambia le carte in tavola, per sempre.
George Lucas, al di là di tutti i difetti che può avere, è un uomo che ha cambiato la storia del cinema, soprattutto con la Industrial Light & Magic, grazie ad una visione diversa delle cose.
Per questo, fosse solo per quel capolavoro che è Guerre Stellari, io gliene sono grato.
Gli autori hanno fatto un ottimo lavoro di ricostruzione, specialmente Hopman alla sceneggiatura, anche se lo stile semplificato di Roche non è il massimo a mio avviso, specialmente nell'uso del colore qua e là su toni di grigio.

Σήμερα, όπου τα μεγάλα franchises φαίνεται να έχουν εξαντλήσει την πρωτοτυπία τους και ειδικά η Disney παλεύει να ανταποκριθεί στις υψηλές προσδοκίες της κληρονομιάς του Star Wars, το κόμικ «Ο Πόλεμος του Λούκας» μας υπενθυμίζει την αξία των οραματιστών δημιουργών. Πρόκειται για ένα έργο που γυρίζει το χρόνο πίσω σε μια εποχή όπου οι κινηματογραφιστές διεκδικούσαν την ελευθερία να υλοποιήσουν τις πιο φιλόδοξες ιδέες τους, ακόμα και με περιορισμένα μέσα. Η ιστορία του Λούκας αποδεικνύει ότι η πραγματική δύναμη του κινηματογράφου δεν βρίσκεται στα μεγάλα μπάτζετ, αλλά στην αφοσίωση και το πάθος για την τέχνη και την αφήγηση.

Pokud se vám nechce číst bichle George Lucas od Paseky, komiks je výborná alternativa (i když pokrývá jen malou část života). George tu sledujeme od dospívání po premiéru a úspěch prvních SW.

Příběh toho, jak si jeden snílek navzdory všem nezdarům (studia, povodně, konzervativní filmaři) točí film, je sakra silnej a komiks ho podává se skvělým mixem napětí i humoru.

Skvělá věc a kdybych si nešetřil 5* jen pro echt výjimečné věci, tak bych je tu i prásknul.

En tant que fan inconditionnelle de Star Wars, j’ai dévoré cette BD qui retrace l’histoire de George Lucas et surtout son périple semé d’embûches pour sortir un des meilleurs films de tous les temps. Qu’on soit touché ou non par cette saga, c’est une superbe histoire, un modèle de persévérance et de très beaux dessins. Une invitation à continuer de rêver !
