Una lettura da spiaggia super leggera che combina atmosfere western con mech da battaglia, ma sia da un lato che dall'altro sa tutto di già visto. Dopo i primi 5-6 capitoli puoi benissimo capire come si svolgerà e come finirà il libro, sapendo che di sicuro tutti i cliché di genere verranno utilizzati.
Il protagonista super figo solo lui.
Donne che gli si buttano ai piedi.
Duelli che vince come niente.
Sempre un passo avanti a tutti gli altri.
Insomma avete capito...
Però è stata un buona lettura per impegnare un paio di giorni potendo leggere senza dover accendere il cervello. La struttura del libro è sì classica, ma appagante, così come la scrittura che va subito all'azione senza perdersi in fronzoli.
La trama in breve: il nostro eroe perde il suo mech da combattimento perché finisce il carburante, viene intrappolato e deve farsi strada tra la mafia locale per riprendersi ciò che è suo, nel frattempo aiutando anche chi cerca la libertà dalla malavita imperante.
2 stelle come voto perché alla fine non ti lascia niente e te ne dimentichi dopo aver chiuso l'ultima pagina.

Dèjá Vu All Over Again
“A Fistful of Mechs: A Battle Mech Sci-Fi Series” by Jake Bible, is a ‘tweaked’ re-launch of a mech spaghetti western-esque tale set in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world of North America’s southwest that was originally published by the author about 8 or 9 years ago.
The ‘tweaking’ includes a new cover that along with the title shamelessly ‘borrows’ from the film “A Fistful of Dollars.” Also the marxist ideology of lgbtmnop+ and the moronic plot device that an adult male can be “raped” by an adult female due to her feminine wiles flows throughout. It’s effeminate, gimpy, wrongheaded which follows marxist doctrine. Though the protagonist ‘Clay’ claims to “hate communists,” he allies with the “communistas.” A case of ‘(s)he protests too much’ is overt.
The sadomasochism of the antagonists of the original publication remain as a plot line for the story.
Mr. Bible is a talented and gifted author who has chosen to embrace the spreading darkness of today’s real world, lazily failing to properly proofread his own product depending on writing software to do the work.

Il titolo ammicca chiaramente a "per un pugno di dollari" del compianto Sergio Leone e la trama del libro ne conserva qualche voluto eco qua e là soprattutto nella quantità di sangue sparso e in una certa ironia di alcuni dialoghi lungo la storia. Ma questo romanzo non è un fantaspaghetti. Siamo sulla frontiera americana, ma tredici secoli nel futuro. Guerre di varia natura e lanci di atomiche hanno reso l'ambiente più vicino a quello di Ken il Guerriero che non al New Mexico o all'Arizona di fine 800 e i Mech non sono certo paragonabili ad una Colt. Certo se cercate introspezione non comperatelo, anche perché al
protagonista, quando non combatte a bordo di un Mech, gliele avrei suonate anche io. Ma se volete passare un paio d'ore di sano divertimento sognando di essere in una tuta integrata o almeno ai comandi di un Mech da battaglia, accomodatevi e non sarete delusi.

This was a really good book
I enjoyed the characters, the action, the mechs, etc. the only annoying bit were the bad guys, but they were bad guys, so they should be annoying so it worked. It might have been nice to hear more about the details on the full final win package, but since that was not too relevant to the story, that is ok too. I liked this book a lot and definitely recommend it. I am glad this is part of a series, hopefully the next adventure will also be interesting.

A different taste of BattleTech. A much more laid-back version with lots of Western influences in a post-apocalyptic world. Foul language, sex, saloons and sombreros abound in this romp with mechs. In this first book there is a lack of mech, but characterization and fun are high points. An easy and short read.

Interesting with action, will see what happens
Awkward romance where everyone is interested in this guy. He seemed to make a lot of mistakes though. The apocalypse setting was interesting but I was also curious about the other female mech pilot and they just … killed her. Kind of disappointing ending even if unique. I’m still interested to see where this goes.

Five whole stars!
It's not often I give a book 5 stars and write a review but in this case I felt the need. I have always been fascinated by the type of Mech featured in this book, probably back to the time in the late 80s and into the 90s when I played the PC games that were based around the Mechs. The world Jake Bible built in this book is different and had me hooked.
I bought book 2 just before writing this. I'm guessing there be another coming along in due course - the titles may give that away...

old fashioned western in mech’s clothes
This story is a fascinating mash up of a good old western with a covering of battle mech servos. A fun read with baddies worth the title of villain and good guys fighting the good fight.
