When I picked up this book, I really was giving it a chance. I normally don’t go for “mail order bridegroom” or the hero marrying an heiress to pay his debt or whatever. Further reading did turned me off. Expect the writing to be choppy & several head hops. Both leads were likeable & extremely prideful. They started out wanting to up each other. He’s your London Earl & she’s your Texas Belle, East meets West. It was quite comical seeing his reaction to certain things or being treated differently than to what he was used to, such as being address to as ‘my boy’ from her father instead of his proper grand title.
Hero had great potential to be an endearing stiffneck Earl but poor execution eventually set him up to be dull. Both leads were rather flat & boring.

So he needs to marry a heiress since his late father & older brother gambled it all. He has his mother, sister & his mistress to support. Out of those three, he really should drop one to lessen his burden. Eventually he did, dropped the mistress because he’s crossing country to marry his heiress. Yay! Good for him. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel the chemistry. Their first meeting was such a let down. I thought we were going to get to see what one thought of the other. I’m not talking about instalust or instalove, but I wanted to see their reaction to each other features. Because that was the whole anticipation I thought?! Only to get him to say, oh what is she wearing on her feet, why is she in jeans? She has unseemly hair. I guess her attires was way more impressionable than her face. I mean, does the lady have a face? Ok, so we don’t know what he thinks of his newly fiancée but no worries, soon we know what he thought of her body. She may or may not have a face but now he’s lusting after her body. How wonderful! Also, it was strange that the heroine’s best friend insist giving her the marital bed talk. The heroine was like ‘no thank you.’ Her friend was like ‘no, I must. It’s my duty.’ Haha. Poor heroine, she couldn’t get out of that one. The whole talk was so cringey too. There were too much going on that the two leads & their romance were so undeveloped. Well, I did a lot of skimming so it sure felt like that.
