Cartel Kings #2

Dominated: His Rough Protector

Rate this book
My life is in his hands. I only wish my body was too.

I never thought I'd want someone who looked at me like they wanted to kill me. Not someone with a gun, anyway.

From the first, he made it clear I'm lower than dirt on his shoe. Now we're stuck together, fighting for our lives in this stupid jungle, after a plane crash he's blaming on me. I mean, I was the pilot, but that's not the point.

I can't stop baiting him. He's every dark, impulsive fantasy I've ever had. My self-preservation has left the building.

And I can see he's tempted. Away from the watchful eyes of the cartel, he's free to make me do the things I know he's thinking. And I'm 100% on board.

DOMINATED brings together a mouthy boy and a closeted cartel enforcer in a high heat, dark MM crime romance with a HEA and no cliffhanger. This novel is #2 in the Cartel Kings Series, but can be read as a standalone.

That was a fun read. I liked it even better than the first one. This is an enemies to lovers story done right. I love Carlos and how dangerous he is, and apparently so does Zee. He fights his attraction to Zee as long as he can, but of course it’s stronger than he is. I’m looking forward to reading the rest in this series. If you like strong powerful men who dominate weaker men in the bedroom then you should read this. It’s a turn on for Zee. 😻

I’m writing a review for this series because this is a fantastic new author but the stories still has a few sharp edges which can be turned into great books with a great beta reader (I will volunteer if you trust me). This book was amazing but I could not rate it any more (even though I really want to) because Zee was too annoying at the start of the book I nearly DNF.

If anyone wants a taste of this amazing author the prequel is free on their website (OWNED) and that book would be a whopping 4.5 stars from me if we could somehow get it added to the authors profile.

Happy reading everyone

I really enjoyed the story for this one. Grumpy x Sunshine is a classic for a reason.

Hello again.

Second book "Dominated: His Rough Protector":

So the book starts with carlos (our dominant MC) shopping with rylan (our Sub MC from the previous book) for Marcus's daughter. Cute. Then a little bit later marcus ask him that he need to go to miami to get their weapon supplies or something like that and supervise their transportation (idk how to explain to i'm using the first words that come to my mind) and all that stuff.

Then moving forward, we get to know our other MC, Zee, in a night club, basically dick hunting, and then suddenly he gets the calls that there's this shipment he has to deliver to Colombia but here's the catch, he has to deliver them with carlos.

So the story goes on, their plain crashes (mysteriously btw cause zee checked everything before their take off), they get stranded in jungle, then carlos threatens zee with a knife and all that good stuff, anyways they find a way too contact marcus and he sends some people to get them back and yadi yada yada.

Anyways enough of the story line, lemme just say something aboyt their relationship, it was healthier than the previous one, but it's toxic, carlos is not as quite as abusive as marcus, but he gets physical with zee like twice.

Their chemistry is more potent compared to marcus and rylan, and my god the tension, it's so damn thick, it takes some time for carlos to accept the whole "i want to kiss a man haha" cause *cough* machism *cough*

But when he does, he does.

Also he's quite a charmer when he's tender.

Zee, like rylan, has basically no backbone, yet, he's more likeable, he's like an orange cat in a way, like he's chaotic and basically can't close his mouth for 1 minute But he's adorable so it's ok.

The storyline is ok, it's a fast paced to my liking but again, it's not even 200 pages so i can't complain, it's not fair, the writing is quite mind catching (like eye catching but for mind idk), the side characters are... just there, but all and all it's an enjoyable read, considering everything, i love their HEA, more than i liked the previous one.

P.S. 1: there's some confrontation in the few last chapters and it's so... dumb, like both carlos and zee had every opportunity to debunk everything morales has said, yet their strongest response was "you're lying, asshole" which was... disappointing.

P.S. 2: honestly i loved their connection, it was adorable when carlos finally confessed his feelings, i loved them but the whole dog colar thing threw me off ngl, i was like "not the zoophilia", but other than that, their whole thing was loveable.

I started this series with the third book because someone I follow was talking about it, and I was intrigued. This was the final book from the series that I read, with the exception of the prequel, which is available for free on the author's website. I say all of that to explain my general thoughts on the series and this book in particular.

The third book is definitely my favorite, followed by book one. Books two and five are pretty even, and book four is my least favorite. I think the series struggles the whole forced proximity thing because it works really well in the third book, but not nearly as well in the others. There's also the whole dominant and submissive thing going on in each book, which can complicate forced proximity and make it kind of icky.

One thing that I really like about the books is that characters do genuinely come to conclusions about their own feelings and their own attractions and typically make changes for the better; however I don't always believe that the characters are actually making those changes naturally. It feels like they make a lot of emotional leaps, and though I really like reading the last part of each of the books because it feels emotional and tense and interesting, I'm never quite certain that the characters really earned the ending and the development that they achieved. So that's how I feel about all the books, with the exception of the third one, which I feel escapes most of those problems.

I also feel like the stories struggle from introducing the characters in one way and painting them in a particular way, but then they often feel like different people when it is their own book. That is just lazy writing, in my opinion, and shows the author really hasn't done a deep dive on each of the characters in the way that they needed to before they started publishing these books. None of the characters really feel consistent throughout the series, even Torres, who is my absolute favorite in this series, along with Milo.

Anyway, all that to say that the series isn't a waste of time by any means, but it never really reached the level of book 3 for me, and that ultimately made me more sad than not.

3.5 stars, rounded up. Also fun in the vein of the dark, conflicted-over-his-sexuality MC vibe of the first book. I think I liked this one better? But it did somehow feel like it ended a bit abruptly for my taste. Still, it's a series that fits a certain mood, and since I happen to be in it, I'm glad to have found it 🤣

Zee and Carlos!

Omg I have binged the first two books in this series today! I enjoyed this book so much! When I read the first book I was like I can’t wait to read Carlos’ book!

It was nice to see Carlos as more than the right hand man.

Zee was just the sunshine I needed and Carlos needed!

On to book 3!

This was a fun read. 🥰

I was excited for Carlos story, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Leo is such a funny character with his smart mouth, always talking 😂😂. It was hilarious every step of the way to watch him talk to Carlos and Carlos replying with threats to end Leo’s life.

Their connection was such a beautiful thing to experience with them and I loved every bit of it. 🥰

I have to admit I had some reservations going in to this book. I loved it. Minus one star because I don’t think Carlos cleaned himself in the 4-5 days they were stranded and yet they had sexy times. Lol.

3.5 stars.

I liked this one even more than the first in the series. It was more interesting having the forced proximity and roughing it in the jungle. Steam was exactly what I expected. Fun times.

Fast Furiously Sexy

Quick read but not short of charachter depth or world building. It's not a dark story but the spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 may have some triggers.

Funny & witty banter I'm coming to love about this author.

What happens in the jungle?

I was intrigued to see where Carlos story was going to go, especially after the tidbit from book 1 in the series.

It was nice to see Carlos loosen a bit and Zee was just the guy to do that.

Overall it was an ok read for me.

so good

This was much better than the first one in many ways. The writing is better, not as many glitches. The banter was good but brief, same with the spice. The twist at the end was really good.

4 ⭐️ I loved this one way better than the first book, their chemistry is crazy. I just wished the epilogue is a bit longer. I am in love with both Carlos and Zee (that’s my nickname btw 🫱🏻‍🫲🏽). Also, Pappy Angelo is everything, argue with a wall. ✋🏻

I wish Rylan West got to meet Zee because like, would they have been friends or would Rylan take one look at Zee's hawaiian print shirt and never talk to him again??? I need to know 😩 !!

What do you get when you put together two people who are total opposites to each other in personality? Fireworks! And boy was the fireworks spectacular!

I'm so sad this author only has these 5 books listed in their catalog. I'll reread them though. I very much like the tone of crime romance. I tried mafia romance a couple times but haven't found the blend of violence, crime, romance, hidden feelings like I did with this series. The trope of closeted gay man succumbs to temptation and all bets are off. Plus the inclusion of some spanking and lots of domming. Lovely story overall.
