Death of an Irish Druid

Rate this book
Featuring the humor and charm of Ireland, a compelling whodunit, a sleuthing American expat limo driver, and two Jack Russell Terrier puppies, the latest book in the acclaimed Dublin Driver cozy mystery series is perfect for fans of Carlene O’Connor!

Megan is excited to show her visiting American friends the best of Ireland. A dead body in a holy well, however, was not on her list. The victim is Seamus Nolan, nicknamed “the Irish Druid” for his controversial efforts to rewild his country estate. The local police seem all-too-willing to write off his death as an accident. But Megan’s instincts say not so fast . . .

Megan knows that sleuthing cost her her last girlfriend. Maybe solving another murder will help her make peace with that. And she’s even more determined to figure out whodunnit when she learns that an antiquated, law may pass the estate on to Nolan’s land-grabbing, sell-out uncle instead of his beloved daughter . . .

But then, with Nolan out of the picture, a rival conservationist’s bid for a major grant is uncontested. And as more suspects crop up, so does a toxic surprise on the estate, throwing everyone’s plans, and Nolan’s reputation, into jeopardy. Now Megan will have to unearth a killer with a very dirty secret . . .

The sixth book in the Dublin Driver Mysteries. I have read one of the previous books and enjoyed it. This one was a good read too.

Megan's girlfriend, Jelana, has broken up with her which is fine with me because she annoyed me in the first book I read. It seems Megan discovers a dead body in each book so it was no surprise when one turned up early in the piece drowned in a holy well. As the title informs us it is the body of an Irish Druid. The leading police officer is a really unlikable man although his uselessness at least has an explanation. Megan and her friends work very hard to build up a case and discover the murderer.

An entertaining read with some very nice characters especially Megan and her friends. There are lots of red herrings and a sudden surprise, for me anyway, at the end when the guilty party is exposed. Well worth reading.

My thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I received a free copy of, Death of an Irish Druid, by Catie Murphy, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book six in The Dublin Driver Mysteries series. I love Ireland and its people, they are so nice, and friendly. In this book Megan is happy to show her American friends Ireland, until they happen upon a dead body. Can Megan solve a mystery, and save her friends vacation to Ireland> This is a really good cozy mystery, in one of the best locations in the world.

This was the first of the series I’ve read and I think it’s the sixth book. This was such a confusing mishmash. I would not read another one.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book!

I’m always happy to read a book in this series, although I’ve been absent for the past few. I was excited to receive an eARC to continue my ride along with Megan!

This time she isn’t sure a murder has even occurred, but feels like she needs to be there for her new friend, Aisling. Aisling’s father was the victim, and although we’re missing the personal connection since Megan never actually meets him, we learn more through his relationships about him. Megan uses a mix of her personality and her connections to sort through the suspects and finally resolves the case.

I really did enjoy this one, and Dip and Thong were lovely as always. There were times when I felt like it was two steps backwards all the time in the investigation, and I also felt like this was a bridging book to the next chapter in Megan’s and her friend’s lives, and for that reason I went with four stars.

"Death of an Irish Druid (The Dublin Driver Mysteries #6)" by Catie Murphy is a fairly standalone book. Megan has her American best friend and his wife visiting her in Ireland. Of course she just has to find a dead man at their first tourist stop. Megan also discovers she's more well known for her crime solving than she realized.

So, I totally called it on who the culprit was. I kind of figured it was them because they seemed a bit out of place from the rest of the story. Also, it was a bit of a "what if?" thought train.

#DeathofanIrishDruid #NetGalley is another exciting adventure in the life of limousine driver Megan Malone.
Living in Ireland certainly has its charm, but when Megan becomes known as the murder driver because she has the tendency to discover dead bodies, can take a toll on a person.
Megan's reputation has cost her a relationship, but she's ready to enjoy a two week vacation with childhood friend Rafael, and his wife Sarah.
Things don't go as planned, and just hours into their visit, Megan finds a body, and before long, they are all involved in the investigation.

This book is good, I liked the way Megan handled herself and her friends were really supportive during the investigation.
There were a few laugh out loud moments that I enjoyed and I'm happy to recommend this book to others.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

I was lucky enough to get to read an early copy of this one, and it's delicious - quite possibly my favorite in the series so far, and the most delightful possible escape-read while dealing with covid. Highly recommended!

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the Dublin Driver mystery series, but I think this one ( well other than the first one), might be my favourite. So entertaining and full of twists I didn't see coming.

Book Review: Death of an Irish Druid by Catie Murphy

Rating: 4 stars

I recently finished Death of an Irish Druid by Catie Murphy, and it’s a solid addition to this charming cozy mystery series. The story follows Megan Malone, a Dublin limo driver who’s looking forward to some well-deserved time off. She’s excited to show her American friends the beauty of Ireland, but her plans quickly take a dark turn when they stumble upon a dead body in a holy well.

The victim, Seamus Nolan—dubbed “the Irish Druid” for his somewhat controversial efforts to rewild his estate—is found under suspicious circumstances. While the local police are quick to label it an accident, Megan’s gut tells her otherwise. She’s no stranger to the complications of amateur sleuthing; it’s cost her personally before, but this time, with Nolan’s estate possibly slipping away to his opportunistic uncle due to some outdated laws, Megan feels more compelled than ever to uncover the truth.

What I really enjoyed about this book is how this author weaves together a mystery that’s not only about solving a murder but also involves family drama, environmental stakes, and unexpected twists like a rival conservationist’s sudden advantage and a surprising toxic element on the estate. It keeps you guessing and adds depth beyond the usual whodunit.

Also, I have to mention the book’s cover—it’s absolutely gorgeous and perfectly captures the mood of the story. The setting throughout the novel really shines; I felt immersed in the Irish landscape and culture, which added so much to the reading experience. The characters are well-developed and relatable, and the plot is tight and engaging without feeling rushed.

All in all, Death of an Irish Druid is a great read that I’d definitely recommend to fans of cozy mysteries or anyone looking for a fun, atmospheric story with a clever mystery at its core. I’m looking forward to more adventures with Megan Malone!

I cannot get enough of Catie Murphy's Dublin Driver series. This review covers the two latest installments: Death by Irish Whiskey and Death of an Irish Druid. I read each of them in a matter of two days because I couldn't put them down, each was so compelling. And I had no idea whodunit until Megan figured it out! I love that in a mystery, and Murphy writes in such a way that you aren't really sure of the killer as you read - there are enough plot twists to keep you on your toes, but not too many so that the stories feel contrived. She's a master at that - at balancing the complexity and believability of the murders. I also love that Jelena and Megan's relationship has confronted the improbability of Megan tripping over bodies as a regular part of life. That all goes for both books.

Now down to the specifics, but no spoilers. Irish Whiskey kills off the victim with whiskey! (Not that that is a surprise.) I love how the mystery allows us to get to know Megan's Uncle Rabbie better and fleshes out their relationship. We also get to know Megan herself more deeply. And don't forget about Dip and Thong. They aren't puppies any longer! Since Uncle Rabbie is a suspect, the urgency of finding the killer is much more personal.

Irish Druid takes a bit of a different track. Megan's American friends are visiting and help her solve a mystery with all kinds of different layers and aspects that are red herrings for the murder, but also vital pieces in the aftermath of the Irish Druid's death. Murphy's shaking up Megan's co-stars kept this fresh. With five books preceding this one, Irish Druid has what you want but also a lot of new that fits perfectly with Megan's life.

The Dublin Driver series is one of my absolute favorites because I love the characters, the setting, the mysteries Murphy crafts (and her style), and the freshness of each book.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Catie Murphy for providing me with a complimentary digital ARC for Death of an Irish Druid coming out January 21, 2025. The honest opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I haven’t read the other books in the series, but I love cozy mysteries. The Irish setting was lovely. I think Megan is an interesting character. She has a group of friends who support her. I probably should’ve read the other books. It wasn’t quite as cozy as I was thinking. I would check out other books by this author though.

This enjoyable series features a fun Irish setting and main character Megan Malone, ex-military and ex-pat. Megan drives a limo which gives her plenty of opportunity to trip over dead bodies. She actually likes investigating and shrugs off the police dislike of her interference.

Her best friends from America have just arrived and they are sight seeing at St Brigid's Well when Megan discovers the body of a local character -- he dresses like an old Druid priest and is infamous as an Anglo-Irish aristocrat who owns a huge estate that he is partially rewilding.

Her Garda buddy is off on vacation and the local constabulary is not as kind to Megan when she starts butting in. The interactions with Megan and her friends is fun. Megan's girlfriend ended their relationship in a previous book due to Megan's propensity for getting involved in murder cases, so Megan has a little something to prove in this one. A very readable series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Not an unbiased review as I have had a great time reading each in the series as they come along.
Megan has gone from military to limousine driver to Murder Driver (has the habit of finding murder victims under odd circumstances)) to being a fixer for those she believes need her skills.
What started off as a vacation with childhood married friends from the states took a dramatic turn the very first morning when she finds the drowned body of a locally famous man. Already she is on the hunt to decide accident or murder when she meets the distraught daughter, a greedy pair of relatives and worse. Now she is sure it's murder. But which motive and how did they go unnoticed? It's fun following along in Megan's wake with her Jack Russell Terriers as they encounter a slew of red herrings and some really amazing plot twists. Loved it!
I requested and received a temporary ebook from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

I enjoyed this story so much more without Jelena. I loved Megan's friends from the States (Rafael and Sarah), and I enjoyed their enjoyment. Specifically, on page 266 Sarah says, "every time we go anywhere with you , something interesting happens." That delight in even the weird and disruptive events of Megan's life is something I'd certainly want in my--or in this case, Megan's--friends.

The other characters are striking and the reasoning and motivation for Megan's involvement are believable--and less reluctant.

This is book six in this delightful series about a limo drive in Dublin. The author has a wonderful way of writing of Irish customs, scenery and the people for her readers. I have read and enjoyed the entire series. The protagonist is savvy and smart as a independent woman.

Megan is happy to have her friends from America visiting. When they are out sightseeing they find a murdered man who was in a fight with the locals over his estate. Megan is determined to investigate with the help of her friends. Much to the chagrin of the local police who say it was a accident. Megan is sure it was not. Soon she is finding nefarious dealings in the village and has potential suspects in her sights.

Each book in this fun series is a fun visit to Ireland. I enjoy the rich characters, the well crafted writing and always the exciting sleuth. Well done to the author.

What do you do when your friends come to visit you in Ireland? Well, when you’re the murder driver, you are apparently double upon a body and find yourself, soothing to figure out who murdered the man you found. All while hoping to keep yourself and your friends safe from a killer.

I have been reading this series since it was first released and absolutely enjoy every single entry in it. Who doesn’t love the foreign setting? I find it even more enjoyable when we have an American in that setting and I can relate to them a little more.

Catie Murphy, we together a strong female protagonist, cute puppies, a gorgeous celebrity, along with mystery and mayhem in each and every entry. This author is on my must read list and I get alerts for every single one of her releases. I wouldn’t miss a single book in this series.

Boom! Once again, the author has delivered a complex mystery wrapped in a layer of life events and frustration for our main character! I love that the author has created a cast of characters that are diverse in race, citizenship, gender and even sexual preferences. It is fun to read a story with a wonderful plot that is complex, yet easy to unravel and follow the breadcrumbs to the solutions alongside our amateur sleuth while also delving deeper into her life and relationships. I think this series does a wonderful job of melding together the life events of the main character with the mystery so that they work together to make a more meaningful read. I love that the author has created a main character that is so different from the usual cozy main characters that I read about. I seriously can't wait for the next book to come out so we can see what happens in Megan's world next!

Thank you to Kensington Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.
I have read book one in this series, so I had a little background on Megan Malone but this is book six in this delightful series. That said there were some characters that I didn't know but it was not a problem. Catie Murphy does a wonderful job of writing a story that could be read as a stand-alone book I will say I love this series and will be going back and reading books 2-5 to get more of the adventures of Megan Malone.
Do you love cozies? Do you enjoy reading about Ireland and its lovely people? Do you like intelligent and funny lead women characters? How about cute dogs? Well then get to reading this series you will not be disappointed. I know I wasn't!

A quietly delightful story (as I think Cozy Mysteries should be), DEATH OF AN IRISH DRUID is Book 6 of the Dublin Driver [#MurderDriver] Mysteries penned by author Catie Murphy. A transplant to Ireland, Meghan is a skillful limo driver with two playful Jack Russell siblings, a gift for discovering the recently deceased, and a penchant for undertaking successful amateur investigations. In DEATH OF AN IRISH DRUID, her intent is only to introduce her lifelong best friend, a diligent ER physician, and his wife, to her adopted country; but their first sightseeing trip, to Brigid's Well in Kildare, uncovers a corpse. The local Detective Garda clearly despises her, and deems the demise an accident; but Meghan knows that can't be the case.

This is one of my favorite cozy series, and this book is definitely a fun read. I'm so glad the pathos has shifted (mostly) away from the tiresome drama of Megan's partner and their breakup. That's the only thing about this series I was so dang tired of. I'm a lot more entangled in and sympathetic to other situations and characters in the book, like Ais and her relationship with her horrifying mom. It's a well-plotted mystery, and Megan is funny and smart. I so enjoy spending time with her and her friends. Looking forward to the next one!

The latest Dublin Driver mystery finds Megan taking her best friend Raf and his wife Sarah across Ireland for their vacation. However, they stumble across a body of a famed druid - who also was a lord. Megan finds herself drawn in yet again.

This one almost felt like the closing of a series, but it wasn't? There were just things and plot developments that made it seem like Megan's story was going to end. Maybe the next one? Or maybe we will have a change of scenery for the next book? I'm hoping though the next one will get back more to the mysteries of the first few I really enjoyed!

I've reading ms Murphy novels for nearly 20 years (since Urban Shaman) and I'm enjoying the Murder Driver series as I love Megan, her friends and dogs.
They're always solid stories and gripping mysteries.
This one was good and compelling, even if not a favorite as I guessed some of the twists (not because it was easy but sort of gut feeling).
It can be read as a stand-alone but there're references to past cases and characters that appears in previous novels.
Entertaining, enjoyable.
Recommended.

In a fun departure from the books that preceded this one, our murder driver is taking a break and is off the clock when she stumbles upon her latest victim. With her childhood friend and his wife visiting Ireland for the first time Megan’s hoping for some quality down time with family and time to grieve her failed relationship with Jelena. Then there’s a Druid in a holy well, a big life change for her bffs that are currently in Morocco and the realization that despite her broken heart, maybe life’s not so bad as ‘the murder driver’!

3.5/5 stars- This isn’t my favorite one in the series, but it was up there. I liked the mystery and it was fun seeing Meghan’s friends. Meghan is still growing as a character, which is nice to see in a cozy mystery series. A lot of the heroines in this genre start out supposedly perfect and stay that way. Meghan is going through a bit of a midlife crisis in this one, but it doesn’t overwhelm the mystery aspect. Still no Orla, though. We need more Orla.

I enjoy these books so much. This one, along with the usual murder (can't be mad about that, it says so in the title) is also about the family you choose vs. the family you have. Megan and her found family--BFF Raf, his wife Sarah, Paul and Niamh via phone, and of course the dogs--are contrasted gently with Aisling, her biological family (dead father, grasping uncle, selfish mother) and her found-family of the estate staff who support her in her grief.

I'm coming into this series with the sixth book, but I found it pretty enjoyable nonetheless! The dialogue is a bit corny (even for a cozy), but I appreciated the slightly more progressive politics around policing. Plus, it's so great to have a LGBTQ+ sleuth! I definitely plan to go back to the beginning of this series and get to know her a little more.

Another good entry in the Dublin Driver Mystery series, this story sees Megan supposedly on vacation with her two American friends, but instead when they visit their first tourist spot, they find the dead body of a local man who fashions himself a druid. There are several suspects, and Megan takes the daughter of the dead guy under her wing to help find the murderer of the girl's father.
