“He was always funny and strong and crazy handsome. But now he’s all of those things and he’s the man fighting on my behalf. How am I supposed to stop myself from loving such a good man?”

This book was just SO.MUCH.FUN. It’s the last book in the Detectives in Love Series, and it was a perfect ending!

There’s romance, drama, laughter, and….the FMC murders her boss. Who knew murder and romance could be so much fun!

Heather pulls it off beautifully with her wonderful writing style, an exciting plot, fun dialogue, a super sweet second chance romance, lots of twists and turns, and a madcap adventure. The excitement begins in the very first chapter, and continues to a surprise ending that I did not see coming!

Three years ago Detective Jack Reynolds proposed to Nora Evans. When she said no, he was hurt and his pride was wounded, so he walked away from her.

When Nora shows up at his house with blood on her clothes and tells him she’s just killed her boss, there’s no question in Jack’s mind that he’s going to help her cover it up. He’s always been a rule-follower, but he’s about to be a rule-breaker to protect the woman he’s never gotten over.

I absolutely adore Nora and Jack! Their story is funny, suspenseful, romantic, and had some incredibly tender parts. I loved it!

You can expect:
* Second Chance Romance
* Marriage of Convenience
* Protective MMC
* Mutual Pining
* My Wife
* Kisses Only
* Romcom/Murder Mystery
* HEA

This is book 4 in the series, but can be read as a standalone.

Jack and Nora’s story was crazy! At first I was wondering how they were going to get out of the predicament they were in. It made me stressed, because like Jack I am a rule follower and they were not following the rules 😂! I loved seeing the gang back together and the way they made Nora feel included made my heart happy. The romance was top notch. This book made me laugh out loud, tear up, and bite my nails wondering what would happen next. PLEASE go do yourself a favor and read this series.

This is the fourth book in the Detectives in Love series by Heather Miekstyn and oh my gosh...go read it ASAP (it comes out May 31st!)

Ok but seriously this whole series has been soooooooooo amazing! I've loved getting to know each of the characters and I loved how they all played such a special role in this book!

This book follows Nora, a private girl who enjoys knitting- until one day her knitting needle takes an unexpected adventure into the neck of her boss. Shocking right? What's even more shocking is that the last person on earth who she'd thought would be supporting her through this is her ex-boyfriend, Jack. He's a detective who's just trying to live his life and forget about the love of his life (Nora)until she shows up to his house with a big problem. Turns out some things (or people) are worth throwing out the rules for.

This book has you literally on the edge of your seat as you wonder just how all these mysteries are going to be resolved especially since you know the true culprit....right? 👀

This book is funny, dramatic, and heart warming! If you haven't read the other books go read them and then add this to your list May 31st! @authorheathermiekstyn does not disappoint!!

Congratulations Heather on another amazing book! Thank you for letting me tag along as an ARC reader!

Playing Along is the fourth book in the Detectives in Love series. While this could probably be enjoyed as a standalone as well, I think you're going to get more out of the story and fully understand the dynamic of this group of friends if you've read the series in order.

Oh my goodness... where to begin!? Simply put, this book was absolutely amazing, as is the series as a whole. Admittedly though, as the story started, I wasn't quite so sure about it. It's hard to explain why without giving anything away (and you really need to experience all the unexpected surprises that this story brings for yourself without any spoilers) ... but I'll just say that the characters made some less-than-ideal choices. By the end, I felt much better about everything that happened. There were so many twists and turns to keep me guessing and nothing was quite as clear as we think it is... in the best way possible. The chemistry between Jack and Nora is absolutely fantastic and they certainly had the most unique reason for entering a marriage of convenience that I've ever read... I absolutely loved it. All the 'my wife' moments!? Yes, please. Jack is such a caring MMC and is willing to go to great lengths to care for the woman he loves!

We get to catch up with characters from the previous books, and I really loved the humor they brought to the story. Did I once again find myself questioning if I should be laughing so much during a murder mystery? Yes, yes, I did... but I loved it anyway!

Playing Along is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language. There is an attempted on-page assault. While it is fairly brief and doesn't go into graphic detail, that's definitely something to keep in mind if that could be triggering for you.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

From the first page, you will be hooked right until the end of book 📕 Heather blew me away with how amazing 🤩 this entire series was, and this book ended with a bang💥

Nora. Right when you meet her, you realize that she is such a kind 💗 and strong 💪🏼 woman. It’s obvious that her past has caused some trauma in her life ❤️‍🩹 and that has caused her to make decisions that she regrets 💔 I love how she was able to swallow her pride and ask for help 💗l

Jack. First of all, Jack will always be the hottest 🥵 name for any law enforcement officer 👮‍♀️ and I’ll fight you on that 🤣 (And Daniel 🤣 Agent Carter is to blame) I adore 🥰 this only-break-rules-for-her man. The love he has for Nora is beautiful and I ADORED 😍 the way he showed it to her through small actions.

Y’all. The ROMANCE 💘 was on point. The MURD3R 🔪 was INSANE. I am not joking when I say, by chapter one you will have no clue where this is going 🤯 The character cameos were PERFECTION 💋 All in all, this was the perfect closing to one of my favorite series 📚

⚠️CW: s*xual assault, shooting, lots of blood, death, abandonment, mild innuendo, minor swearing, cheating (not main characters)⚠️

Oh. My. Gosh.

This book. All the heart eyes. All of them. I might have read the series out of order, but I’m not sorry. And I won’t be forgetting this adorable book anytime soon!

Second chance
Never stopped loving you
Mystery
Humor

I could’ve stayed up all night reading this book. If I could have I would’ve driven this book while driving. I would’ve ignored Dr appointments for this book if the Dr wouldn’t have fined me. That’s how good this book is!

I love Nora. I love Jack’s thumbs. Um, I mean Jack. Just Jack. Yeah, just Jack.

The mystery, fabulous. I was trying to see if I could figure it out, and find my own plan of keeping Nora out of jail. And then that plot twist! Never saw that coming!!

And the comedy… Oh. My. I have so many highlights. This book is full of cute moments. It’s full of swoony moments. It’s full of hilarious moments. The tiny elements of faith are perfect. I love Nora’s mention of her growth and finding her identity in Christ.

If you decide not to read this book… well… you’re not very smart. And if you do read this book, you’re an amazing human.

Oh my goodness! What a fun story! This is my first from Ms. Miekstyn and I am so excited to read more from her. Playing Along is the fourth and final in the Detectives in Love series, but can be read as a standalone.
The story started with a bang and was moving along from the first chapter. It definitely was a faster paced plot. I was quickly invested in the story and the mystery. I have not been reading murder mysteries recently, so I did feel a bit like I was thrown into the story right from the start, but it was very exciting. The story moved along quickly and clues were revealed along the way. I am no detective, but loved seeing how everything came together. There were definitely surprises!
Nora was a very charming narrator. I felt like I was quickly absorbed in her story and empathized with her. She was overwhelmed in a completely unusual circumstances and I definitely felt she reacted as anyone would! Jack was so sweet. He was very different from Nora in a lot of ways. He was very protective and thoughtful. It was so sweet to see how they took care of one another. Their mutual pining was so sweet and felt very real. They both cared so much for the other.
I loved meeting their friends too! I have to go back and read some of their stories now! I am sure that readers returning to the series will enjoy seeing old friends again. This is a cozy romcom-stery with elements of a murder mystery and a romcom. There is only kissing, some innuendos around married couples, and non-graphic murder mystery elements.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

Wow! This book took me completely by surprise and sucked me in from the get-go! With lots of romance, lots of mystery, and lots of twists, the plot kept me guessing until the very end. The story also contained not just one, but two of my favorite romance tropes! Marriage of convenience plus a second chance romance created some serious tension between our two leads. Throw in some amateur sleuthing, and I was hooked.

Jack was an absolutely delightful MMC. I loved how he was a dependable, predictable, rule-follower kind of a guy, until it came to Nora. Then all of a sudden, his priorities would fly out the window in favor of securing her happiness and well-being. I also loved Nora's quirkiness and relatability; her and Jack made an amazing team. She honestly gave off Gus vibes from Psych, but maybe that was just because she was also a pharmaceutical saleswoman!

Although this book is part of a series, it works as a standalone. This was the first book I have read in the series, and I enjoyed the easy camaraderie and belonging between the characters. It makes me excited to go back and read the other books in the series!

Content wise, this is a clean romance, with some very mild innuendos and no swears. TW for attempted assault. It was a little weird for me to see how flippantly the characters thought about and talked about murder, but I think that is just what is expected within the romcom/mystery subgenre. Once I kind of adjusted my expectations for the tone of the book, I really enjoyed it.

Anyone else hoping for a bonus chapter in Antigua?!

I received a complimentary copy, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

3.5 stars!!
Things I loved:
• The murder mystery!!! I've read two other books in this series so I know how the most unlikely one is behind all the chaos. It always blows my mind away and this book was in no way different! Everything was so perfectly planned and well-written 🤯
• Jack being an absolute sweetheart throughout the book 😭 what could we do to deserve someone like him??? Him, especially in some last chapters, set my bar up so high aghhr it's not even funny now 🥺
• Another important theme of this book was the friendship and safe to say, I loved it ❤ for someone having such friends, they can literally conquer the world!!
.
Things I wasn't a big fan of:
• The middle part of story got a bit dry and dragged. Like, most chapters I could've skipped because nothing significant happened in them.
• Both MCs hiding their true feelings were so annoying!! Again, this is maybe because I don't like slow burn 😭 but when they confessed, I took a breath of relief...
• Their were way too many characters!! I get that this is the last book in the series and the author wanted to add all of them into one book but it somehow got all jumbled up inside my brain and I had to wait everytime they appear to think who is who 😅
.
All in all, it's a bittersweet feeling to say goodbye to Detectives in Love series. I highly recommend to all my romance besties who also wants to read something murder mystery type. 2 in 1, you see? 😉

“Jack is fire and family. He’s a warm hug and a soft place to land.

He’s—no. No, no, no. I shake my head, pulling the plug on this dangerous line of thinking.

These are the thoughts of a woman in love, and I refuse to be in love with my husband.”

Goodness, this book will have you hooked from the very first chapter. The suspense, the intrigue, the romance, the dang plot twist that snuck up on me.

I was hooked. Plain and simple.

But that’s Miekstyn’s talent. She hooks you in with a thrilling romance and clobbers you over the head with an intricate mystery. This is why, despite not reading many mysteries after my Nancy Drew era, Miekstyn is my number one-go to-romantic suspense author. And her newest book “Playing Along” is no different than the rest of her fantastic work. You will fall in love with the golden retriever MMC, Jack, and his penchant for breaking the rules ONLY when it comes to his wife. You will see yourself in the fiesty FMC, Nora, who “allegedly” can make knitting needle deadly.

Playing Along is the perfect rom-com/mystery to start your summer with. Read it today!

🌿 sweet rom-com
🌿 murder mystery
🌿 plot twists, people, plot twists!
🌿 protective MMC
🌿 marriage of convenience

Playing Along by Heather Miekstyn was fantastic! The plot drew me in so much that I had to know how everything played out! Miekstyn did a great job of writing a murder mystery that had many twists and turns. Did I finish Playing Along in a day? Yes, yes I did! This book was so hard to put down! Like other books in this series, Playing Along reminded me so much of the tv show Psych with plenty of hilarious moments. I have been a huge Reynolds fan since the first book I have read in this series! His story did not disappoint at all. I loved all the hoops rule following Reynolds went through for Nora. He was not about to let her go for a second time. Their banter was amusing and sassy! While apart of a series, Playing Along can be read as a stand one. However, I recommend reading all the books in the Detectives in Loves series because they are all excellent! The romance was closed door with only kissing. If you love second chance and marriage of convenience romances book tropes with a dash of murder, then pick up this book!

I volunteered to read an ARC copy of the book and all thoughts are my own.

Wow, this book was an absolutely wild ride! It started with a bang from the very first chapter and I was instantly hooked! There were so many crazy twists and turns, the mystery kept me guessing and surprised right until the very end! I love murder mystery and I always enjoy trying to guess whodunnit but this one had me stumped, it was really well written! The stakes were high and I was definitely a little stressed for the characters at times, but only because I was rooting for them and wanted to see things work out for them. And speaking of the characters, Nora and Jack had such a sweet romance, watching them get the second chance at the loving relationship they deserved with one another was so beautiful! This book is a fantastic blend of the romance and murder mystery genres and is a total page turner that you won’t be able to put down! A great conclusion to a fantastic series!

I just finished reading a book that was a murder mystery, but it surprised me with a healthy dose of romance and humor! I fell in love with the main character and especially Jack - he's a total sweetheart. The way the story balances thriller and humor is pure magic. Once you hit the thrilling parts, you won't want to stop turning pages. Unfortunately, I made the mistake of putting the book down, and it lost some of its charm.

The friendship between the characters is literally the best. Who wouldn't want a friend who's got your back, even when you accidentally murder someone?! It's not about condoning murder, but about the unbreakable bond between friends. I'm kicking myself for not reading the previous books in the series, so take it from me - start from the beginning!

In short, just read this book! It's a wild ride that'll keep you hooked."

Incredible, clean (no sex, no swearing) romcom mystery!

I loved this series and I’m sad it’s over! Playing Along was the perfect end though. I loved Jack & Nora’s second chance at love, the dynamics of the friendships, and the mystery held lots of twists and turns.

I can’t get enough of Heather’s writing style. She’s witty and funny, keeps the story fast paced and heart felt. The romance is always spot on, with sizzling chemistry and kissing.

Excellent series, I highly recommend it- each book is a stand alone but read in order for the most enjoyment!

Okay, the premise of this one was weird. Don't get me wrong- Jack and Nora were absolutely adorable and I was rooting for them from page 1 but their mystery was not my favorite. Their love story was top notch though.

If you like second chances, fake marriages, plot twists, the detectives of Grand Rapids PD, cats, pictures, and just such good books, read this one! Read all four. Like I did. It's been a good few days.

For the first time her icy demeanor cracks, giving us a glimpse of the wounded woman beneath. Stella is clearly crazy, but nonetheless I feel the tiniest bit of sympathy for her. It’s a mistake for anyone to try and get their worth from another person, and I certainly don’t need Jack to give me my worth—but that doesn’t change the fact that when Jack looks at me I feel like a treasure of the highest value.

Thank you, Heather Miekstyn.
