Fox Beckman is an author with a penchant for spicy stories about swords, sorcery, and smooching. Her books feature strong, nuanced characters that interrogate the status quo and subvert expectations. A member of both the Loft Literary Center and the Author’s Guild, Fox lives in the Twin Cities with too many hobbies and a very patient spouse.
Built from Ashes is the third book in Fox Beckham’s Trust Trilogy and the story builds across the series. This review will have spoilers from events in prior books.
After adoring Fox Beckman’s Brendan & the Beast, I was eager to dive into more of the author’s work. The Trust trilogy promised many elements I adored, yet I struggled with it much more than I had hoped. My rating of Built from Ashes, the final book in the series, is going to be a minority perspective that is coloured heavily by my feelings about the entire series.
While the series has offered elements that intrigue me, constantly promising details that will hit hard and suck me in deep, that never happened to the degree I had hoped. There has been too much vagueness and not enough explanation for me throughout, which I accepted due to the storyline. However, it made it difficult for me to care with this final book. There was so much going on, so many things were tied together and changed, yet I did not care about them because I had spent two books not fully connecting to things due to the lack of clarity. Add in the fact that certain elements were obvious from the start due to the way things were heavily pushed, and I felt like this final book attempted too much at once. I am sure it kept those who enjoyed the first two books deeply invested, but for those on the fence – like I was – it made it difficult to care about everything. Of the things I did care about, there was too much background noise for me to be invested.
All in all, this was a unique series, and I can certainly see many being intrigued by the way things develop throughout. Sadly, my hope that this final book would wow me in the way I had been hoping for throughout did not occur. I know my perspective is going to be the minority – I desperately wanted to adore it – yet I struggled with this one.
Devastated by betrayals, Ravi’s world has unraveled. As he tries to put the pieces back and save the Trust, he realizes that someone is working against him from within. Now he must battle to keep the Trust alive while guarding his heart and his life.
The final book in the Trust Trilogy captures you on page one and keeps you spellbound as the final actions are unveiled. At the center of the action is Ravi and Harry with the rest of their team, including the incredible invisible cat. They all have a part of action and the path to the final resolution is shocking and unexpected in some ways. This was a fantastic book and I hope to see more set in this world. I am sure their adventures are not over as yet. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and this is my unbiased review.
Fox Beckman wraps up this trilogy most excellently. Yltnellecxe! I was going to try for the whole sentence backwards but it was just too hard to do. I can only imagine how difficult it was for Ms. Beckman to keep everything moving along and keep things straight in her head with three books of time travel back and forth and back again. It’s hard enough to keep everything straight just reading these books but it all comes together and makes sense in the end, so if she can keep my squirrel brain following along then I’d say she did a pretty solid job. This is an absolutely fascinating tale of love in a world of magical possibilities and Ms. Beckman keeps you guessing right up till nearly the end of this third book about what, how, why and of course when. Bravo!
I got a copy of this book from GRR and this is my honest review
Wow. So much happens in this book. I definitely changed my mind on what I wanted to happen after I read the first two books. I don’t want to say too much and give anything away. There is so much detail and world building in this. I stand by my opinion that the time travel makes things really confusing at times. I think the right people ended up together in the end. Yay HEA! I correctly guessed who the anonymous benefactor was. I hope that at some point another book or an extended epilogue comes out; I would like to see further into the future and what happens.
This has been such an exceptional trio series of books and this final book really was "the icing on the cake! Yet again I was completely pulled into the storyline as everything unravels for Ravi and he is reeling from betrayal, eventually realising it is someone from within the Trust! An action packed journey as he works alongside Harry and of course the invisible cat who help him fight his battles. Completely unexpected culmination to the events which I loved! I received an arc copy from GRR and this is my honest review.
We knew there was going to be fallout when Cayenne's secrets were finally revealed, but...WOW. Poor Ravi went from being so happy to betrayed, but he must acknowledge his own role in the matter. I so adored Ravi that I ached to see him suffer. Betrayed by more than one person, can Ravi save the Trust, the world, and his heart? This is an emotional rollercoaster ride, and an incredible endcap to a fascinating trilogy. I recommend this series by a new-to-me author, and look forward to reading more from her in the future.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
I've been waiting eagerly to see how the author tied up the loose ends in this final book and I was definitely not disappointed. My heart broke for Ravi but I was pulling for him as he sought out the traitor near him and worked with his companions to make things right. The author gave me the HEA I hoped for and I can recommend this as a series with fantastic characters, world building, interesting use of time travel and a very satisfying conclusion.
This series has been SO utterly amazing. I am actually sad to see it finished. I'm glad everything happened as it did, I just wish there was more to come. Maybe I need to find a support group for this!! I am totally hooked on this author's work. Wow, what a talent. I am your newest, biggest fan! This was a real treat for me.
A great series and well worth the read! Excited to have discovered this author. Fantastic world building and characters. Ravi became my favorite character. Thanks for the wild ride and will definitely read this series again as well as watch for future works from the author!
His world has been shattered and his life may never be the same again. He is very broken and he may never recover again. Can he ever be mended? He needs to face all the demons from his past. How will he get on? Follow him to find out
All I can say is what a way to end the series. Ravi just has so much to deal with as there is a lot happening again. I liked this book more than the first two.
Wow! So much! This was the third book in this series and oh man!!! I read an advanced copy of this book and this is my unbiased review! This is an amazing series, read them all!
