Florida P.I. Steve Salem is hired tail an unfaithful husband. Things go from boring to bizarre when his mark is executed right in front of him. Finding the killer is only the beginning of the adventure.
Rhode Island native Tim Baker released his first novel, Living the Dream, in August, 2009 and has followed up with 5 others since then. Tim writes fast-paced, off-beat crime stories full of colorful characters and loaded with unexpected and often humorous twists and turns, set in Flagler Beach and St. Augustine, Florida. This book doesn't mess around! It gets right into storytelling mode and the pace doesn't slow down until about an hour after you've finished reading the book! It reads as fast as a Harley on the highway, and packs as much fun into every page! As a bonus, it makes you want to move to Flagler Beach, FL. just to be part of it all.
I liked the story line and characters. It is nice to read a book for a change that isn't full of steamy sex and bad language. I loved the way the author dealt with the owner of the pit bulls. It was poetic justice! Those scenarios really bothered me since I am an animal lover so the bad guy got what he deserved. I am looking forward to reading another one of Tim Baker's books.
I am not normally one for mysteries, whodunnits or detective novels. Tim Baker's BACKSEAT TO JUSTICE is the type of detective story that makes me question why I don't read this genre more often. This is a solid story that keeps you guessing and keeps the page turning.
Oftentimes, a detective novel can be rather predictable. When you get a story that truly keeps you on your toes, takes turns you don't see coming and outsmarts your best guesses then you know you got a gem on your hands. This story is undoubtedly that type of gem. It manages to jump from a whodunnit to a more gritty detective story seamlessly. When you think you know where the story is going it takes a sharp left. The final result; a great page turner.
Where Baker really shines is his characters. Each person that populates this books is believable and likable/dislikeable as the case maybe. All their actions are true to each character's personality. The foundation for most good detective stories are the characters because all too often the plots are very cookie cutter. When the character drives this type of story you can't help but love it.
I've not read Tim Baker before this. I plan to read more Tim Baker now. Though all his novels are detective type stories they each have a very different feel to them. I can't wait to get into more of his stuff soon. My guess is that this book is just a good a place to start as any.
When Florida0based PI Steve Salem is hired to tail a cheating husband, and the man’s killed right before his eyes, you would think things couldn’t get any worse. You would be horribly wrong. For Salem, things just go downhill from there in Tim Baker’s Back Seat to Justice. A funny at times mystery that takes up one blind trail and down another blind alley as Salem blunders and meanders into more trouble than one could ever imagine, including old murders, stolen identities, and a burning thirst for seeing that justice is done. What a great way to end the summer!
