Count Their Graves is book 12 in the Detective Katie Scott series by Jennifer Chase. This series is one of the best I've ever read and this book is another fantastic entry to the series. Count Their Graves finds Detective Scott out on her morning run with her service dog, Cisco. She decides to take a different trail this morning and Cisco alerts Katie that something is wrong. Cisco leads Katie to a section of woods where they find a young girl about 6 years old. The girl is only wearing a white nightgown and it's quite cold out. She picks the girl up as she is sobbing and alone. As Katie and Cisco follow the trail they come to a large farmhouse. When Katie goes towards the house she finds a truly horrific scene. In the barn, 5 family members wearing matching pajamas, are lying dead next to each other. They have all been brutally murdered with some sort of knife and then been staged in the barn. Who would kill and entire family? What did these people do to upset someone so much? The little girl found in the woods was the youngest in the family. Her name is Emily and she tells Katie that her mom put her in the woods to protect her. How did her mom end up dead then? Why didn't she call for help? So many questions and so few answers!
When Katie calls it in, the team arrives soon after. The house has been totally wiped and is so clean there is no evidence left at all. The team discovers that this family, the Banks, were in witness protection. They had been moved here. Was that why they were killed? As Katie, Gav, and her team are finishing up at the Banks house, they are notified of a similar scene across town. This family has been killed in their beds. Why is someone going around killing entire families? This is particularly evil and a true monster is on the loose. Katie and her team are overwhelmed with the amount of dead bodies to process and evidence to search for. Both homes that the murders took place have no close neighbors. No one saw or heard anything!
This is going to be one of the most difficult cases Katie has ever worked. Will Katie and the team be able to catch the killer before they kill another family? When someone gets too close to Katie for comfort things really ramp up! Is Katie in danger? Who could get so close to her? This book will keep you guessing and on edge throughout. If you've never read a book in the series, don't hesitate to read this one as a standalone. It's got lots of twists that you won't see coming! There is something about this series that brings me back over and over. And I don’t do spoilers.
But there has been a thread throughout this series that has never sat well with me. It just didn’t seem like a good fit. And with this book she completely eradicated that thread but I still feel like something is just off. As I said I love Cisco and Katie for the most part is a character that keeps me returning. As well as John & Gav.
I’ll definitely be interested to see how this aspect shakes out. Because in my opinion throughout this series it was something that just never seemed to gel.
I will also say I knew from the beginning that a certain character was knee deep in it.
But there has been a thread throughout this series that has never sat well with me. It just didn’t seem like a good fit. Detective Katie Scott and her K9 sidekick Cisco are back in a puzzler of a story. That sees Katie and Cisco stumble across a young girl. When out running one morning. A young girl called Emily who is terrified and tells her that her mum abandoned her and so Katie goes off to find her.
But what she finds is a crime scene that Katie and her colleagues will never forget.
As Emilys entire family has been slaughtered and as the investigation gets underway Katie and her partner Gav learn the family were in witness protection. So the Sheriff who also happens to be Katie's uncle tells them to work the scene and quickly before the marshals turn up and take over.
However, just hours later another family is found murdered in similar circumstances and this time, a young girl, the same age as Emily is kidnapped and Katie and Gav know they are in a race against time.
But something isn't adding up and the murders seem to be more about the children than they do their parents.
And as the investigation unfolds more unanswered questions arise. As does the body count and Katie and Gav know they are running out of time.
Yet, someone seems to be messing with the case or maybe Katie just isn't thinking straight. As her personal life is once again in turmoil and her friends are worried.
But Katie is determined to bring Emily home safely no matter the cost.
And with plenty of twists and turns. This was a gripping read. That I found hard to put down but I did work out part of the story pretty early on. Yet, saying that I still really enjoyed the journey and felt chuffed that for once I figured something out.

Count Their Graves opens with Katie discovering a little girl hiding in the wilderness whilst out on her usual morning run. Leaving trusty sidekick dog, Cisco, with the child, Katie attempts to find her mother. However, as soon as Katie returns to the farmhouse, she's met with a gruesome discovery. Little Emily's family has been laid out in the barn, all murdered.
When Katie calls it in, she's advised that she and partner McGaven are to take the lead- only until US Marshals arrive to take charge. It turns out the Banks family was in witness protection and their untimely deaths are likely connected.
Katie and Gav begin their investigation. But it's going to be tough. Their killer is a bit too smart, cleaning up after themselves. The Banks family's past further complicates things. Then another murdered family is discovered- and their little girl has gone missing. Because of the similarities, Katie and Gav are suddenly aware that they're dealing with a serial killer.
Time is the essence. All personal problems must take a back seat- which will be hard for Katie. There's no margin for mistakes. This is the biggest case that Katie and Gav have undertaken and every clue matters.
Twelve books in, and I'm still enjoying the Detective Katie Scott series. There's just something about it that makes me come back for more. Katie and Gav are one of the best fictional crime-fighting duos out there.
I'm not sure what direction Jennifer is going with one plotline. It seems a bit out of place. Hopefully it'll be resolved soon.
It's easy to pick the suss character straight off. They're in DEEP. Quite obvious really. Make it harder next time, please!

If you like a police procedural stories, then this book is for you!
It’s really nice to get back with Det. Katie Scott and her partner as well as her K9 dog, Cisco which becomes the star of the show on this book!
Another interesting case has appeared in Pine Valley for Det. Scott to solve and this time her enemy isn’t just the killer but also against time as she has to found the missing girl before it’s too late.
I really like Det. Scott and her partner, they are one of the best detectives with great teamwork which is why I keep coming back to this series every time a new book is out.
As much as I like the mystery of the case and also the way the investigation is going, I’m quite disappointed with Chad (Katie’s fiancée)’s action.
I know the romance is just a side plot, but still I was annoyed to see him behave like that towards Katie.
Nonetheless, Katie is a strong FMC and I’m sure she’ll get back up again… I’m also sensing the romance aspect may take a different path and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Overall, a good addition to the series and I feel satisfied with how things got wrapped up in the end. I’m really looking forward to the next book of this series!

I’ve been a HUGE Detective Katie Scott fan from the beginning, and this series just never disappoints! I was reeled in right from the first chapter, and it never let me go! It was suspenseful, action packed, and a great mystery. I’ve loved the character developments and relationships throughout the series, and I really love the partnership Katie and Gav have. And as always, Cisco is the MVP. Can not wait for the next installment and to see what is next for the detectives!

ngl I did not enjoy this book at all. the writing felt so juvenile, there was 0 description, it felt so simply written I just couldn’t get into it at all. the characters miraculously just recovered from everything, it makes no sense how someone can have CPR and then just stand up and run off to start shooting again. and I literally guessed the premise from about the second chapter, felt like it could have been a good twist but I just saw it coming SO early. just didn’t enjoy at all unfo

Former Army and incredibly skilled, Detective Katie Scott excels when it comes to solving cold cases. Katie works well with her partner Sean McAven. However, with Katie having found a four-year-old girl all alone - and the only survivor of a family massacre - Katie’s boss assigns them to the case. With a scene providing very little evidence, Katie knew they had their work cut out for them. As always, Katie also has her canine partner Cisco to help her to scout out the area where the murdered family was found. Tragically, even before they can really search for clues, Katie is alerted of another similarly awful situation, except this time the little girl in the second family is missing.
With impeccable writing, as well as smooth style, Jennifer Chase delivers a compelling read. Having read an even dozen of her books, including Count Their Graves, I am always pulled into her stories. This book was rather chilling, especially as there was a cruel signature that connected both cases. The personal side of Katie is always evident, but with these cases, she was especially heartbroken for personal reasons. Meanwhile, her PTSD from her time in the Army is ever-present.
Like any well-written series where the reader connects with the characters, Jennifer Chase makes it super easy to connect with Katie. Her professional and personal lives were woven in flawlessly in this book. I look forward to the next book in this addictive series.

With impeccable writing, as well as smooth style, Jennifer Chase delivers a compelling read. Having read an even dozen of her books, including Count Their Graves, I am always pulled into her stories. This book was rather chilling, especially as there was a cruel signature that connected both cases. The personal side of Katie is always evident, but with these cases, she was especially heartbroken for personal reasons. Meanwhile, her PTSD from her time in the Army is ever-present.
Like any well-written series where the reader connects with the characters, Jennifer Chase makes it super easy to connect with Katie. Her professional and personal lives were woven in flawlessly in this book. I look forward to the next book in this addictive series.

ABSORBING FROM START TO FINISH – CHASE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT!
I’ll start by saying that I am a YUGE fan of Jennifer Chase, author of the Detective Katie Scott Mysteries. It’s why I was thrilled to get my hot little hands on Book 12, the latest in the series that serves up murder on a plate. While I tried not to be greedy and stretch out this story to make it last, I binge read it like a mongoose diving into a pile of crickets in a cave because … because I just couldn’t stop! The upshot? That COUNT THEIR GRAVES doesn’t disappoint, but then living up to expectations is something Ms. Chase excels at, and why I’m an ardent admirer of her work. The consistency she produces assures those seeking entertainment of the larcenous kind that she never misses, and that you’re in for an evening … or two … or more … of pure nail-biting enjoyment. And to entice all you mystery lovers a little further … the story goes something like … ba-da bing ba-da boom … this!
During an early morning jog with her ever-faithful German Shepherd, Cisco, Katie discovers a young girl lost and crying in the woods. Katie silently wonders how she got there, and who left a child alone in the wilderness, but wastes no time trying to get help. With her cell devoid of a connection, she walks to the nearest residence, hoping it’s the child’s home. She scouts the place, stumbling over a markedly unpleasant surprise. Bodies. Four of them. All dead. All laid side by side and wearing identical pajamas. But what she can’t see is that there’s an abhorrent surprise hidden in those bodies … a surprise that the coroner will soon discover. The discovery will add an even creepier vibe to the murders, and force Katie to face ugly truths that are key to unlocking this mystery … a mystery that will only deepen when the second set of murders appears and matches the first to a tee.
This is the premise of the newest offering, and if you think it sounds good, wait until you start reading it! When you do, I predict that the inevitability of the condition known as “unputdownable” will kick in and trigger a handlock on the remaining pages. The caliber of writing secures this prognostication is true. With Ms. Chase at the helm, characters are well-developed and the narrative enough to set the mood while not restraining the story. This allows the plot to unfold and follow unexpected twists and turns that can best be described as intriguing. But she doesn’t stop there. She peppers the intensity with slower moments used to blast up the tension. It’s an artful maneuver that culminates in a pace best described as frenetic. Scant clues add to the mélange, making things more complicated and wielding danger at every turn.
In terms of the storyline of the series, I can assure you that the whole gang is found within the pages, and that includes my favorite: Cisco! I just love that dog, and would be so majorly disappointed by a non-appearance, but I have a feeling that Ms. Chase feels the same way! She brings him to life in a winning way—extolling his devotion and skill used in the tasks he’s called upon to perform. There’d never be anyone you’d trust more to watch your back, and the author doubles down on that sentiment in a big way. In this outing, our furriest angel is given a big, humongous starring role! No spoilers here, but let me just say that he’s put in a position that gives him the opportunity to demonstrate his doggie-driven devotion. And speaking of ‘devotion,’ there’s someone in the cast of characters that pops to mind. Someone with the four-letter first name spelled “C-h-a-d.” Now in Book 11 entitled THE FIRST GIRL, there was some distancing going on between hunk-a-doodle Chad and the ever-wonderful Katie. Now I love both of them, and have been pushing for them to get married from the beginning … so all I’ll say is that some decisions have been made that I hope are ‘unmade’. I will also add that if the issues can’t be remedied, and Chad needs a girlfriend, that I am available anytime … any place.
Thus ends my wrap-up! So if you’re a mystery fan, or just enjoy great, well-written stories, add this to your TBR list! Count Their Graves by Jennifer Chase is the twelfth instalment in the Detective Katie Scott series. Being the first I’ve read I was pleasantly surprised at how easily Chase welcomes the reader, it doesn’t matter if you haven’t read any previous books.
Detective Katie is former army and is very skilled at her job. In Count Their Graves, Katie and her service dog Cisco are out for a run when they come upon a little girl, cold and alone in the woods. Following the trail to the farmhouse on the property, Katie finds a shocking discovery - a family of four murdered, laid out side by side, dressed in matching pyjamas. Quickly assigned the case with her partner McGaven, she wastes no time getting started on solving the case.
This was for the most part, an engaging, fast paced and high stakes read. Detective Katie Scott is very likeable and together, her and Cisco are a dream team that you want to root for. Learning that Chase has a background in criminology and dog training was a nice surprise and I enjoyed the inclusion in her writing. I found the crime well thought out and the discoveries Katie made along the way were unique and intriguing. The story was always being pushed forward and Chase is great at knowing exactly when to end her chapters to keep the reader wanting more.
While I enjoyed the setting of Pine Valley I thought it could have been made more vivid with some more description. I couldn’t really tell you much about the town after reading the book. While the everyday dialogue was great, believable and realistic, all the dialogue with Chad felt completely unbelievable. His words seemed cliche, blunt and all a bit too easy, like a script from a high school play. Also the dialogue during the reveal came out as a bit of an info dump that didn’t feel realistic. I think too many loose ends were trying to be tied at once. There was also perhaps a fraction too much foreshadowing about the twist, but it was still great when it came.
Overall, this was a good read. I very much enjoyed Katie and Cisco’s adventures and will definitely try another instalment. Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for my ARC.

What I liked:
* Katie: ex-military K-9 trainer & handler, cold case police detective, good friend, leader, puzzle solver, works for her uncle the sheriff, loves her K-9 partner, suffers from PTSD, has many who admire and support her, has relationship status change, eager to find out what happens next
* Cisco: Katie’s black German Shepherd K-9 partner who has been with her to war and was discharged into her arms. He’s there for her no matter what, companion to Katie, skilled at his job, loving and protective, helps ground Katie – loved by all, worthy of awards
* Gaven: Katie’s work partner, supportive, good sense of humor, able to read Katie, in a committed relationship, loves Cisco, dedicated, protective, a good man
* John: forensic supervisor, ex-SEAL, intelligent, strong, protective, and…mentioned before that he was a potential love interest for Katie…
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* The police procedural aspects and how the twists & turns were dealt with
* That the case was wrapped up without loose ends with the killer and helpers all dealt with
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* The killer and those that assisted in the kidnapping and murders
* The emotional upheaval that Katie experienced in her private and professional life
* The ease with which one character manipulated and maneuvered and the disbelief I had that wise detectives could so easily be taken in

This series is not gripping - read on KU
I don't love this cast of characters. I actually read the book before this one first and then started back at the beginning. I think the kne before this one is probably the best in the series.
There are a number of things that bug me about this series. One is that she finds a trap door or a hidden compartment in almost every book. She's another FMC that goes into dangerous situations without backup. At least she doesn't usually get kidnapped by the bad guy as a means to solving the crime.
I dislike her relationship with Chad a lot. I dislike the flashbacks to her time in the military. They don't add value to the story. I respect servicemen and women and veterans and think flashbacks would have a place in some stories, but they don't help this series.
It seems like the medical examiner changed personalities between the 1st and maybe 3rd or 4th books by a lot. It also seems strange that she and her partner work cold cases but their murderer always murders someone in the present. And sometimes the sheriff decides she is the best foe the job just because even when it isn't a cold case.
It really didn't seem necessary to murder the sheriff's wife several books back.
I may read the next book for a specific reason that I won't mention as it would be a spoiler for this book, but I'm certainly not waiting with baited breath. And none of these books leave me on the edge of my seat or are page turners.

Detective Katie Scott heads up the cold case unit for the sheriff's department with her partner, Detective Sean McGaven. Katie is out on an early morning run, and her service dog, Cisco, alerts her to something. Katie is horrified to find a little girl alone in the woods, dressed in a white nightgown. The child is unharmed but clearly traumatized. Scooping her up, Katie follows the trail to a large farmhouse. But what she finds there rips the air from her lungs: one, two, three, four bodies laid out side by side, all in matching pajamas.
The story gripped me from page one and it didn't let go until the exciting end. There was edge-of-your-seat action with sad moments, and you couldn't help but feel frustrated at all the twists and turns that the detectives encountered while trying to solve the crimes. Cisco isn't featured too much in this story, but he's still a great character.
I enjoy reading this author as she skillfully unravels this thrilling mystery with credible characters and an atmospheric locale.
I would highly recommend this book and series. I look forward to more and what will happen with Katie, Cisco, Gav, and the town of Pine Valley.

Detective Katie Scott and Detective Sean McGaven investigate the murder of a family whose bodies have been arranged postmortem, leaving the detectives to believe there is more to these murders than is on the surface of what they see. Katie, while out for a morning run with her K9 Cisco, comes across a small girl with blood on her clothes. The child tells Katie her Mommy brought her to the trail and told her to stay there. Katie leaves Cisco with the child, Emily, and goes to the home and finds the bodies of Emily’s family. Katie calls the murder scene into the station and all those needed to investigate arrive at the scene. Circumstances find that Detective Scott and McGaven will be aided by the US Marshals. Marshal Kyle West arrives and the story takes off from that point!
The book is well written and quite believable. My only problem with what transpired is that no one ever questioned the arrival of the Marshal. When he arrived, no picture of him preceded his arrival, no badge number was given and nothing as to when he would arrive making Katie and Gav look a little incompetent. In my opinion that would be the first thing a detective would question.
I do recommend this book as the story keeps you guessing and makes not want to stop. Plus we have to see what kind of trouble these detectives get in and out of.

Detective Katie Scott and her K9 Cisco are out a job early morning, when they come across a young girl. On further searching, Katie finds the rest of the girl’s family murdered. It transpires that the family are in witness protection so a Marshall is sent into help with the investigation. When a second family turns up dead, and the little girl Emily disappear, Katie and her partner Gav exhaust every possible clue.
What a page turner. This hinted that someone in law enforcement was involved, and the author planted many many red herrings as to who that could be. I did have my suspicions as to who the killer was, and was proven right. However the way the story is teased out with a lot of twists and turns, I wasn’t disappointed and was always second guessing myself. If I had to criticise anything, it would be the Chad angle. chad has been missing from the past few books after being kidnapped. I’d don’t think the direction his storyline took was deserved or fair on Katie. Perhaps this is because I really like Katie as a character. She’s a strong independent woman and I love her strong bond with Cisco. This was one of the best in this series. I really enjoyed it. Couldn’t put it down. Would highly recommend.

Sleep with the lights on! This book really creeped me out and made me a little sad as well.
Detective Katie Scott is out for a run when she finds a little girl huddled in the woods with blood all over her. She leaves her dog, Cisco, to protect the little girl. What she finds at the house is the stuff of nightmares - a whole family has been slain. The only survivor is the little girl who is too young and too traumatized to provide any information.
When another family is slain just a few miles away, they realizes the stakes have just gone up. The first family was in witness protection, which they assumed was the reason for their death, but obviously this is not the case. There is much more going on than first appears. This killer is methodical and leaves no evidence behind. This will not be a simple open and shut case.
This puzzling case is at the forefront of everyone's mind, and they know they need to solve it before someone else dies. I was gripping the arms of my chair as I read this suspense-filled, twisted mystery. It was thrilling, dark and dangerous, all the things I love in a good mystery. I am still a little shaken.

I am a huge fan of Detective Katie Scott and have been following her story since the very first book. This is the 12th book in this series but could be ready as a standalone.
This case had it all. From the beginning Katie knew that none of it added up. There were many inaccuracies that just didn't make sense.
I was on the edge of my seat desperate to find out who the killer was and what his motivation was. There were a lot of threads in this story and Jennifer did an excellent job of weaving it all together.
From the first chapter to the last Jennifer kept up the tension and mystery. The book was fast paced and full of action.
This was another excellent addition to the series and I can't wait for many more.

Count Their Graves had a catchy title and plenty of suspense. The plight of the families and children targeted for abduction and cold-blooded murder drew me into the story and, at least for some, all of the police investigative team work paid off. And Cisco, Katie's former military dog who now assists on cold cases, was a great support character.
But, for me, there was a bit too much going on in this story. It did not have the page-turning urgency I love in a murder mystery, possibly because there were so many things going on that frequently the next chapter tended to take off on another tangent and the suspense had to rebuild. And, after a while, the body count made it difficult to keep track of all the victims and shady characters. Plus, I suspected the principal bad guy from the get-go; I like less predictability.

This is a great crime series and this one is one of my favourites.
Katie and Cisco discover a young child shivering in the woods while out for a morning run. When she reports it and the team come out, they find the rest of the girl’s family brutally murdered in their home.
The little girl is placed under Police guard in hospital as it appears the family were part of witness protection.
Another family is soon targeted and Katie and McGaven have their hands full trying to find the killer.
Due to the link with witness protection, a Marshall is sent to work with them, and it takes a while to get used to him.
Katie is also dealing with her own personal problems but tries to focus on the case.
This is a great crime thriller with a few twists and turns to keep you on your toes.
I love the relationship between Katie and her specially trained dog Cisco, and he plays a crucial role in this book.
I’d highly recommend this series if you’ve not read it yet.

This is the twelfth book in this excellent series featuring Detective Katie Scott. Katie has to deal with a horrifying sight when she is out running with her K9 dog Cisco who dashes off. When Katie follows she comes across a young girl in just her nightdress who appears to be traumatised and informs Katie that her mum left her there. When Katie finds their house she comes across the rest of her family, four bodies, all laid out in matching pyjamas. How did the little girl escape? As the investigation continues Katie discovers that the family were in witness protection. Katie is determined to find the killer but things take a turn for the worse when another family are found murdered in similar circumstances and their young daughter appears to have been kidnapped. This is a tough case for Katie as she is having personal problems as well. This was a fascinating story and a gripping read. I cannot wait for book number thirteen.

This is a series I adore and not only because I think the world of Katie and Gav, but also because of Cisko, the German shepherd who plays a very active role. He is always ready to help, protect and console Katie as well as victims of a crime.
In a few of the previous books I had the feeling Cisko was put a bit on the back burner, but in this one he was the star of the show in my opinion and it seems like I was not the only one who felt this way. :)
Sometimes, when a character is introduced, I feel there is something off about them. Sometimes I am right about that and sometimes I completely miss the ball. I can tell you I scored a goal this time. :)
There is also one of the recurring people I never had a warm heart for and in this book I exactly know why this was. I understand people wanting to live their dreams, but was this really the way to do it? Shame on them.
This was a finger licking page turner and I cannot wait for more. 5 stars

Chase continues to deliver in book 12 of the Detective Katie Scott Series!!
This story will have you gripped to the end as the body count continues to climb. Katie battles with her ability to find the killer, taking personal responsibility of ensuring that a little girl is found before it is too late. This book has some emotional moments for the characters, Katie in particular, but the friendships of her team and the trust they have in each other will get her through. The climax will have you on the edge of your seat as Katie finds herself once again in danger.
I had my suspicions about one of the characters, so was good to see how that played out.
My mum was a little jealous I had my hands on this next book ahead of when she can read it, after I got both my parents hooked on the series. I did give them one spoiler, Katie for the first time does not write off another Jeep in this book, that comment was for my dad who often comments that she is always destroying her Jeep.

Another great installment in the Detective Katie Scott series. Have you read the previous books in the series? If you haven’t read this series, I highly recommend starting with the first book. There is a lot of back story you will find useful in knowing.

Along with her partner, Gav, Katie tries to unravel what is going on. And, believe me, there is a lot going on! In my estimation, just a bit too much going on.
I do have to say, I had misgivings from the start of the story…..my feelings turned out to be true. But, it made me wonder, why didn’t Katie or Gav pick up on this?

When a second family is discovered also killed in a similar fashion, the entire community and the police force are put on full alert. What are the links between these two families, seemingly very different from each other. Most importantly it is important to rule out a serial killer before he strikes again.
The detection continues and uncovers so many links between these families but was there enough evidence to commit murder. A family in witness protection was the first clue but the final reveal of the murderer was unexpected. (Like all good detective stories it is the unexpected which adds interest to the story).

I’ve loved this series from the very beginning and each book never disappoints, they grab your attention from the start and keep it to the very last word! One of my favorite characters is Cisco, the German Shepherd, I just love him so! The author does such a good job in detailing scenes so that you can see, hear, feel, taste, and smell whatever Katie or McGaven does.
I definitely recommend this book and mystery/crime/thriller series! I can’t wait for the next book to come out!

The writing in this series is a little juvenile, and having some things conveyed through Katie’s thoughts whether they’re right or wrong is eye roll inducing. Also, Katie’s severe reaction to ‘horrifying scenes’ is very overdone. She constantly reminds Gav and John that she’s a highly trained ex-military police officer and can handle herself but melts down at the sight of dead bodies? Come on now. It’s got to be one or the other (erring on the side of it not affecting her as much as it does). Also the number of times she reminds them of that, goes off on her own and then ends up in trouble
Having said that, the plot itself isn’t bad. The story is readable, it’s enjoyable, it’s got its twists and emotional moments and the characters are developed and characterised enough that you don’t hate them. A little humour wouldn’t go amiss but a solid three stars as it stands
