A small-town baker with dreams of moving out of the mall’s food court and opening her own brick-and-mortar bakery enters a baking competition for a chance to win $25,000. But instead of winning the grand prize, she finds herself in the middle of her ex’s plan to acquire her business for a big box retailer.
Two years ago, Ginger opened a bakery, Ginger’s Goodies, to honor a promise she made to her late mother. Ready to take her business to the next level, Ginger enters a baking competition hosted by big box retailer, Decadent Dough. What she doesn't count on is running into her high school ex, Brock Pearson, who works for the company.
Instead of joining his father’s firm, The Pearson Group, Brock Pearson was eager to prove he could be successful outside of his father’s shadow and joined the legal team at Decadent Dough thirteen years ago. When his mentor retires, he throws his hat in the ring to become his successor. The job is his if he can find potential acquisitions, one of which is Ginger's Goodies.
For Ginger, joining Decadent Dough is a hard NO. However, Brock will not back down easily because now he wants to win her heart again.
And just when Brock and Ginger were at the precipice of sealing the deal of love....
Brock's boss learns Ginger is the daughter of his college rival. Now, he will stop at nothing to destroy her business. To make matters worse, he convinced Ginger that Brock is part of his scheme. To prove his innocence, Brock may lose his shot at the promotion he's coveted and the career he's worked so hard for.
Ginger and Brock's careers and hearts hang in the balance. Which is more important than the other?
Special thanks to the author & @hearourvoicestours for my gifted copy‼️
Ginger is a successful baker who’s ready to take her business to the next level. She entered a baking competition with hopes of using the money to move her business out of the mall. After signing up she runs into her high school ex Brock Pearson who just so happens to work for the company. Brock was well on his way to the top if he could find potential clients for his employer Decadent Dough. Ginger’s bakery was at the top of his list.
Small town books involving bakers or chefs are always fun to read and will most likely leave you hungry. I loved Ginger and Brock together. No matter how hard Ginger tried to resist she couldn’t deny she wanted to be with him. Brock was the reason they didn’t work out the first time so I like how he took ownership of that and wanted to make things right between them. There was a bit of drama and miscommunication thrown into the mix when Decadent Dough tried sabotaging Ginger’s business.
But Brock sacrificing a promotion and his career for Ginger was the true definition of his love for her. I liked the relationship Ginger had with his family and how they were rooting for them too. I couldn’t have wished for a better ending with this book when it’s meant to be you can’t fight fate.
Overall, this was a really sweet and cozy read so if you enjoy books with small town settings, second chance romance, and mentions of food you’ll enjoy this book.
The story was a sweet slow, slow burn for this bakery owner and her man. I especially enjoyed the limited drama and unnecessary foolishness. Although, there was not intimate moments, the story was still a lovely love story.
I love to see bakeries and bakers in fiction, since I worked for my family's bakery for years and enjoyed the work. Getting to know Ginger, as she seeks to make her dreams come true through Ginger's Goodies, was so much fun! I loved her gumption and how she worked to make her bakery a success. I also enjoyed getting to know Brock, who is ambitious as well. Their shared past draws them together, as well as brings up past hurts. This is a fun story to read! I would love to have another book about the characters and their friends!
I received this book from Just Read. This is my honest review.
This is a slow burn, second chance with a little bit of miscommunication BUT it was so cute. I loved how they sprinkled in messages of faith and family. I also loved the banter between Ginger and her best friend Lisa… I see book two being about Lisa and Jayden.
Small town business owner Ginger has big dreams for her growing bakery. When she runs into her ex-boyfriend Brock, she must figure out if he’s there for her or her business.
This Christian second chance romance is full of hope and the knowledge that God has a plan for each of us. It was impossible not to cheer for former high school sweethearts Ginger and Brock to take risk of trying again. There was no doubt that their love had never faded.
I really enjoyed both of their close knit families and Ginger’s best friend, Lisa.
Batch of Love is perfect for those wanting a low angst, feel good romance filled with family and faith.
Read for: Former high school sweethearts Baking competitions Close knit families Second chance Slow burn
Super cute love story. I loved Ginger and Brock’s situationship. They were making me mad though going back and forth. I wanted to jump through the book and tell them to both get it together and give each other another chance. You can tell that they both still loved each other. This book reminded me of the baking shows that come on Netflix. When Ginger was competing in the baking competition, that was my favorite part of the book. The author did a great job making the reader feel as if they were actually in the audience watching.
I love how Ginger had her own business and the author shedded light on how hard and fun it can be to have your own. There was so many people trying to take Gingers Goodies down and the sad part about it is.. that is reality! People will do anything to come out on top! Her best friend Lisa was a true definition of a ride or die. Absolutely loved their banter and Lisa was always tryna put Ginger in her place about Brock.
Decadent Dough, Dawn, and Ace can all go to hell. So trifling! The book started off super strong, then halfway kinda fell flat but picked back up. Overall it was a good book.
The second time around doesn’t always prove itself to be easy. Ginger had lots of trepidation about Brock and had a lot to overcome. Theme to remember is God answers prayers!
For sure a true love story. What I liked best was that these two didn’t play games. It is amazing that after 20-years apart, they were equally attracted to each other still. Reading the story brought back high school sweetheart days and made the story even more realistic. Brock will have to decide what he might be willing to forego to win Ginger’s heart again. What they want individually for their careers are contrary to them reuniting.
This was a cute book! I loved the fact that it was centered around baking and competition!! ( I’ve always been such a fan of things like Cupcake Wars and the Holiday Baking challenges so this one was right up my alley! I liked that it was dual pov and I loved how likeable the main character, Ginger was! I couldn’t help but root for her! Thank you so much @hearourvoicestours for an ARC!!
This D. E. A. R. second chance story was epic. "Batch of Love" was a perfect title. Brock and Ginger learning to forgive, trust, believe in each other had me humming the Song God of a Second Chance.
Being stubborn on the part of both Ginger and Brock led to a lack of communication. Fear of rejection and separation from God added to the mix too. Another great must-read love story by one of my favorite authors. I definitely recommend this book!
I enjoyed reading this book. The storyline was good and it wasn't your typical story. Im excitedxcited to see if there will be more written about Brock and gingers story!!!
This read was and is a palette cleanser. A second chance at a love that never really died. I enjoy this faith base read it was just what I needed to get out of my mini reading slump.
This was a great read. Any opportunity I got I was trying to read. If you’re meant to be it will return full circle. I hope there’s more to Gin & Brock.
Batch of Love was a lovely book about baking, business, faith, and second chances. Natasha had me at the cover and title because I'm a baker, and I adore books that include baking, just in case they throw out some tips or a recipe or twelve, alas, the disappointment. But I imagined eating pie and ice cream, and it was delicious!
I understood Ginger's setting goals and fear of failure. As you mature, you feel the clock ticks faster and faster, and you have less time to achieve your goals. Romance also has a 50-50 chance of failure because with maturity comes the hurts, losses, and rejections amassed.
I loved Ginger's relationship with her dad and her friend, Lisa. Her drive to succeed was admirable. The pressure she put on herself is something we feel as women and minority women. She was doing great at the mall, but a storefront was her dream, and she didn't just sit on her hands waiting for it to come. The competition was exciting. I am not a keto fan, but she almost made a believer out of me.
I was proud of Brock, he had decisions to make, and you see his character growth as he works carefully toward a renewed relationship with Ginger. I like how the title ties into the book's theme. To bake something, you have to have all the ingredients and then put them together in the order listed on the recipe for them to be a good batch. A good relationship takes mixing up the ingredients. Can I forgive? Will I let rejection or bitterness win? How do I face my fear?
But they combined their ingredients via discussion, faith, family, and patience to bake a Batch of Love.
This was my first book by Natasha Frazier, but it won't be my last. I rated this book 4 of 5 stars.
I received a complimentary copy of the book. This review was written voluntarily.
My daughter and I love to bake so I grab any book with a setting of a bakery or catering or the like. This one was fun and enjoyable. The competition for baking, trying to win money to open her own building instead of a store front in the mall, was a cute plot line that sits well with so many baking competitions streaming right now. Ginger is an ambitious character, which is appealing, though she was a bit hard-nosed and closed-minded about things. Ginger’s drive was a sort of tunnel vision that really limited the growth of the character and I didn’t really like her all that much, though I do admire the drive and vision. I really like that Brock had changed in the years since he had last known Ginger and that he gave Ginger the chance to do the same. Brock grew throughout the book, opening his eyes to the true work situation he was in and giving him the chance to make his own choices.
I was looking forward to finding recipes at the end of the story, more and more each time the coconut flour cake was mentioned. Since I can relate to the need to for treats that are not flour based, I was intrigued and desiring those recipes mentioned over and over. Alas, it was a great disappointment to get to the end and have not recipes. I think that I one of my favorite things about baking and cooking stories-the recipes at the end. But this book did not follow that and so it was a bit of a let down.
Overall, the story was nice and quite enjoyable. It was a quick read that I know many would enjoy and appreciate.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Baking is one of those things I wish I was good at. Since I’m not, I live vicariously through cooking shows and culinary characters, which made reading Batch of Love all the sweeter.
Working through the past to make way for the future is something that comes in all second-chance romances. What made Ginger and Brock’s story unique was Ginger’s tenacity and passion to see her bakery succeed, which was what I enjoyed even more than their love story. Seeing a woman pursue her dreams is always inspiring and makes me want to step out in faith in my own journey.
There is an innocence in the narrative, almost like you’re glimpsing someone’s diary, which made the story feel intimate in the best way possible. Both of these characters are running from the pain of the past, giving all of themselves into their work and their future, but the head and the heart can want two different things, and that’s evident in Ginger and Brock’s story.
My favorite parts were the baking competition, and I can’t tell you how much I wish I had the recipes to Ginger’s keto cookies! It’s no lie that I craved cakes and cookies the entire time I read. This is such a sweet novel with a thread of faith that will have you believing in love and in your dreams.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
This was a fun and swoony story by a new to me author that happens to include a bakery. Not just any bakery, but one that specializes in the type of deserts I want- keto and gluten free. All the descriptions of the cakes and sweets had me craving something sweet so much.
I really liked this story of a second chance love story that does have some past issues and present drama to work through. Two loves who even after twenty years have not met anyone else and think about the one that got away. That is Brock and Ginger's story, and it was the best ingredient for this romance.
When they meet up again, mostly accidentally, the sparks come back to life. However, both of their livelihoods and businesses are now at stake, instead of just their hearts. I liked that Brock was so patient, longsuffering, and loving towards Ginger. In fact, he treaded very carefully where her heart was concerned.
I also understood the hurt and betrayal Ginger felt, from the past and present. Will she be brave enough to let go and take a chance on a second time with Brock? Read the book to find out, the ending was icing on the cake.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review, and all views and opinions are my own.
What a delight of a baking competition + love story!
Ginger and Brock have a history; one that ended (they thought) 20 years ago, when the two of them headed off to different universities. Their lives took quite different tracks. Ginger creates delicious baked goods in her Ginger's Goodies bakery, inside a Houston-area mall. Brock is an attorney for a large company which focuses on acquisitions. When the two of them, all these years later, run into each other in that mall, they're both shocked.
Ginger is ready to run in the opposite direction. Brock wants to pick up where they left off at the end of high school. And circumstances conspire to throw them together again...sort of. Ginger has entered a baking contest with a winner's prize of $25,ooo. She hopes to use the prize money to expand Ginger's Goodies into a free-standing bakery location. And the sponsor of this baking competition? Decadent Dough, Brock's employer. Oops.
Before these two protagonists are sorrows, joys, conflict, and confusion. (Everything you'd expect in a fun romantic read!) And you'll find all those, and more, in the delicious and delightful "Batch of Love." Highly recommend!
I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.
Thank you to the author & @hearourvoicestours for the copy!
Batch of Love is a lighthearted second chance romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. If this were to go from book to film, it would be an incredible Hallmark movie. As a small business owner, I really enjoyed the conversation around big box retailers trying to acquire or sometimes bribe small businesses into making deals that are often too good to be true. Even more interesting when the big retailer is your ex! Ginger wasn’t having it! Ginger’s passion is admirable. She was standing on business! I love the relationship she has with her Dad & her best friend, Lisa and the intentional ways she chose to honor her Mom. I love the baking competition scenes & any scene that takes place inside Ginger’s Goodies. The way the author portrayed small business is so accurate! Ginger’s cookies sound amazing, I want to try them all🤣 Some of the miscommunication dragged on & left me impatient at times making me think both Ginger & Brock were being immature. But the slow burn is worth it, especially when intentions needed to be checked. Highly recommend!
I always like reading Chrisitan Contempory Romance stories Batch of Love by Natasha D. Frazier is the most recent book in this genre that I had the opportunity to read.
I have to say this book did start a little slow, and I didn't really get into the book until Chapter 2. Ginger has been working hard to achieve her ultimate dream of Bakery Store Front and enters a contest to win the funds to open her bakery. Brock Pearson is heading up the contest as he works in the Legal department of Decandent Dough, the company that is sponsoring the contest. Brock and Ginger were High School Sweethearts and the relationship didn't end well when Brock ended the relationship. Brock is wanting to acquire new Bakers for the Company and there is a Promotion on the line if he does. Ginger and Brock find themselves falling in love all over again. I really LOVE how Brock stands up for his values and beliefs when his company tries to Sabotoge Ginger's Bakery. The book is about a small town girl wanting success, second chance romance and has a Faith aspect also. I think those who enjoy Christian Contempory Romance will enjoy this book! GOOD BOOK!
This is a second chance Christian romance with the dreaded miscommunication trope swirling through from start to finish.
Batch of Love follows the story of former high school sweethearts who meet again after 20 years. Brock, a successful lawyer, wants to acquire Ginger’s small business for his firm.
I loved this and how it incorporated faith, food, family and friendship. It was a delightful read celebrating black creativity and excellence.
I love cooking and baking shows and I enjoyed reading about it in this book. I wished the author had written at least one recipe for some of Ginger’s creations.
I enjoyed the business aspect of it too, especially the merger and acquisition aspect and the underhanded approach of big companies.
I love the familial love both main characters have with their families and the friendship between Lisa and Ginger. I would love to read Lisa and Jayden’s story.
If you enjoy second chance romance then you should read this.
I received an advanced copy and the review is mine and voluntary.
This was a really sweet second-chance romance (no pun intended).
(I like to think I’m ready for the flack I’m going to catch, but I know I’m not, and that’s okay.) This book is marketed as “Nailed It meets You’ve Got Mail,” and well, I’ve seen neither. I’m sure they are great movies; I’ve just never seen them.
Ginger and Brock were wonderful characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed Lisa. Everyone needs a “Lisa” in their lives. We all need that one person willing to be completely honest with us. While I enjoyed the romance, competition, and back-and-forth with Ginger and Brock, I appreciated the relationship Ginger and Lisa had. Their friendship was precious, reminding me not to take my friendship(s)/relationship(s) for granted.
Now, I will say I don’t love the miscommunication trope, but I understood it. I was rooting for Ginger and Brock because they deserve happiness. Will they have their happily ever after? Well, you’ll just have to read it and find out!
It’ll be available on Kindle Unlimited upon its release (at the time of this post)!
I enjoyed this second chance romance. I liked that the main characters were older and we could see how they matured with time. I liked that we got to see them learn how to have a relationship as more mature adults and to be willing to change so things that weren’t healthy. I liked seeing them have to work through their feelings from the past in order to have a future together. I also liked seeing how they encouraged each other to follow their dreams and to figure out what they wanted out of life. I also enjoyed the secondary characters and how they were a big support to Ginger and Brock as they worked through their relationship. I hope to see more of them if there are other books.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
This was such a cute read. Ginger was ambitious and she reminded me of "Princess Tiana" from 'Princess and the Frog' where she wanted to have her own restaurant. In this case, Ginger wanted her own Baker. Then you had the "Prince" who was no longer considered royalty. Brock does not want to work with his father.
But what do you do when there's ill will towards you but you don't do anything this has something to do with your parents 👀
Woozers 👀 I love how the author articulated the characters and you'll be in love with them just as I was.
Reading this book definitely had me wanting some of Ginger Goodies especially those turtle snickerdoodles 😊. Now this second chance story definitely made me see why Ginger and Brock broke up the first time but I’m glad that Lisa and Tina gave them the push they needed to get this relationship back on track 🥰.
Second chance love story that was nice to read about. Glad they both declared their love early and just needed to work through their issues. The individual doing the audio book wasn't very good. She had little expression and was very monotone. She didn't do the story justice.
Second Chance Romance. I was cheering for Brock because I believed in his love for Ginger. The Twins, messy!!!! A small part of me wish Kenneth would've socked Ace in the face!!! Overall this was a good read!!!
This was a grand story from start to finish! The characters were well developed and the story played out like a movie! This was a great read about Brock and Ginger! True love can truly Stan the test of time
