Rate this book
Elizabeth Truett witnesses a murder by the most dangerous man in Baltimore. Police Captain Bill Jerek hastily finds a hiding place for Elizabeth and her husband out of town, watched over by a young woman he feels is the only person he can trust. Because Elizabeth isn't the first person to have seen Marco Galvan commit murder. She's just the only living one. Jerek lost his last witness when he was betrayed by someone close to him -- and he still doesn't know who that was. Then, while Jerek desperately hunts for Galvan, and Galvan tries just as hard and more brutally to uncover the witness, a new player enters the a young man claiming to be Bryan Truett, Elizabeth's son, who disappeared in Vietnam a year earlier. The young man is known as Tripwire, partly because of his explosive temper. Is he who he says he is, or a ploy of Galvan's to uncover the missing witness? At any rate, Tripwire is determined to find Elizabeth. Everyone has the highest stake in this contest. Not everyone will survive. The unknown factor is Tripwire. "Tight, high-tension suspense... You wish you could speed-read because you're in such a rush to find out what happens next." -- Houston Chronicle

I have read quite a few of Mr. Brandon’s books. They are smart, captivating and unpredictable. I wonder why he’s not more famous. This one is one of my favorites due to the dark Viet Nam Veteran element. It had a taste of the superhero in it. Elizabeth was also quite a hero herself. Brandon consistently writes strong women even if they are not the main character.

Very Good; woman witnesses a mob killing and a police captain works to keep her hidden and safe while he tracks the killer; at the same time, her son arrives back from Vietnam prison camp and starts to look for her himself.

She put a ton of coins in the pay phone, producing loud clinkings in the receiver.
