What a fantastic resource on outer space for kids 6-10, including more than 100 activities to enhance learning. The terrific illustrations and design make it easy and fun to read. This adult learned a ton, as will young readers. Highly recommended!
This is a very cute activity book for kids who are learning about space and the solar systems. Each page has a lot of facts and information followed by an activity such as work searched and matching games. This will be great for keeping readers entertained. I learned some fun facts as well.
Thank you NetGalley, Emily Greenhalgh, and Zeitgeist for allowing me to review.
As an adult who still gets starry-eyed about space, I was delighted to discover this engaging activity book that makes learning about the cosmos both fun and accessible. The format brilliantly balances educational content with over 100 varied activities that keep young minds engaged without feeling overwhelmed.
What really stands out is the book's versatility - while it's perfectly pitched for the target age range of 6-10, I found myself genuinely enjoying some of the puzzles and challenges (and learning new facts along the way!). The activities range from simple dot-to-dots for younger readers to more complex code-breaking exercises that might have parents and older siblings joining in.
The factual content covers an impressive scope, from our home planet to the far reaches of space, presenting information in bite-sized, digestible chunks that spark curiosity rather than overwhelm. I particularly appreciated how the book balances familiar topics like planets and astronauts with more advanced concepts like supernovas and black holes.
As a gift, this book is a winner - it's educational without being dry, entertaining without being shallow, and offers hours of engagement through its varied activities. It's part of a series that clearly knows how to make learning fun, and this space-themed edition doesn't disappoint.
Perfect for rainy days, road trips, or any time you want to inspire a young mind to look up at the stars and wonder. A fantastic addition to any young scientist's library!

Fun with Outer Space, a Big Activity Book for Kids about Our Incredible Universe by Emily Greenhalgh and illustrated by Candela Ferrandez, is a wonderfully engaging exploration of outer space, planets, stars, and other interesting phenomena that exist in our universe. The book follows a pattern of introducing a topic with a one paragraph explanation and is either followed by a colorful illustration or a bold outline that can be colored in by the reader (or listener, if being read to).
There are also fun activities provided that relate to the information just presented. Some examples are, crack the code, connect the dots, word searches, crossword puzzles, and more.
While the book’s cover recommends that it is for ages 6 - 10 years old, it would seem more appropriate for an 8 - 10 year old, to be able to complete the activity pages.
It would provide many hours of enjoyable learning and be a jumping off point to explore other more in depth sources.
A read for early space scientists, that learn through getting a pen in their hands and doing things on the page. They can range anywhere from word searches to join the dots to solving clues for a crossword. It's a good, light kind of homework for people learning the basics about the solar system, and the rest of the universe beyond, so even if we get some pages where we just colour in things, there is a lesson for a junior mind just around the corner. It might feel a touch too easy to complete – some bits are just 'trace over these slightly awkward words and be done' – but the worst thing would be someone put off the subject because of difficulty with an ill-placed sudoku, for example. Colourful enough (before our contributions) and easy on the eye, this is a good early science book. And there are, to assure people, no sudokus.
Your kids can learn all about Outer Space while also filling out fun activity pages like word searches, mazes, seek and finds, word scramble, cryptograms, and more. Each chapter includes brief paragraphs about the specific part of Outer Space plus a word puzzle or activity to go along with that lesson.
Kids will learn about the atmosphere, all of the planets, the sun, the moon, and asteroids. The activity pages build on the lesson and either offer a review of the lesson or more information on the subject. Middle-grade readers who love word puzzles and learning about space or tend to learn better with actual activities rather than just reading will love this type of book.
Accurate and fun illustrations make the learning approachable and the information is given in bite-sized paragraphs. Gift this to your space-loving child this holiday season.
We were sent a free copy of this books to review by Penguin Random House Zeitgeist Insiders club. My 6-year-old son loves this book. His favorite pages are the "crack the code" challenges, but there are many other activities he enjoys. While he can read, the writing is more for older kids or adults, so I am not sure that he's learning too much about space on his own, but that's ok as he's only 6. I like how he doesn't need an adult to work out of the book. That said, he does need an adult to read the main text, and some of the activities are for bigger kids. While he could share the book with our 10-year-old, an activity book is hard to share without ripping out pages or having another book to trade. In a perfect world, there might be different editions for different ages (6-8 and 9-11, for example). If you buy this book for a child, they will enjoy it.
'Fun with Outer Space by Emily Greenhalgh' is an engaging and educational activity book that takes kids on an exciting journey through the wonders of the universe. Packed with puzzles, coloring pages, mazes and fun facts, it makes learning about planets, stars and galaxies both interactive and entertaining. The activities strike a nice balance between creativity and education, keeping children curious and engaged. While some pages may feel a bit simple for older kids, the vibrant illustrations and variety of activities make this book a fantastic choice for sparking an early love of space and science.
This is definitely a fun educational activity book that is engaging for a range of ages. It would be perfect for homeschooling families, or those who encourage learning outside of the classroom. There is a wide range of bite sized topics surrounding the science and history of space, with tons of activities, coloring, word searches and the like to go along with it. I cant wait to get myself a physical copy and recommend it to other homeschoolers who I know would enjoy this!
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a early digital copy
Fun, activity-filled book for kids. I was impressed by the amount and depth of activities. It also seems involved enough to be entertaining for kids near the end of the age spectrum, 8-10 years old. It's filled with interesting facts and out-of-the-ordinary activities to keep kids interested. I'm looking forward to seeing how my child likes it. I received this copy from zeitgeist for review and I'm glad I did!
My seven year old grandson who is in second grade was excited to get this book. He is a very inquisitive boy who loves learning new things.
Each page includes facts about our solar system. The illustrations are eye catching. The book is loaded with fun activities to complete - coloring, codes, word finds, connect the dots, crossword puzzles. The pages are easy to read and understand.
This would make a great birthday/holiday gift for a child.
Thanks for the gifted book, @penguinrandomhouse! A bright, colorful, engaging activity book with lots of fun for ages 6-10. Hours of activities from fun facts to “crack the code,” maxes, coloring pages, connect the dots, matching games, and more. If your child loves the solar system, super novas, missions to Mars or any type of space fun, this is a wonderful and super well designed activity book.
I received this as a review copy from Penguin Random House in exchange for my honest review.
Obviously, this activity book definitely needs to be used and experienced in a paper format. It instantly made me think of those holiday workbooks we used to have as children to keep us busy and learning during the summer break. It looks very entertaining and informative for children fascinated by space, but also any adults keen to have some good old-fashioned fun.
Great space activity book! Has lots of different activities like word searches, code breaking, word scrambles, crossword puzzles and fill in the blanks. The quality for a kids activity book is excellent. This was a big hit with my 7 year old granddaughter! I definitely recommend it. Thank you Zeitgeist!
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my review copy.
The title says it all! This really was a fun book filled with lots of activity related to space, as well as educational. She is a bit young, but my space-obsessed niece is going to love this book in a couple of years. I definitely would recommend!
Great book for kids! Kept my 7 year old niece and 6 year old nephew entertained while learning about space. The illustrations were done beautifully, and there are over 100 activities to keep the kiddo entertained for hours while learning. Great follow-up to her first book! Can't wait for the next!
This “Fun With Outer Space" book was perfect for my school age daughter and includes lots of activities to keep her learning while having fun! There are puzzles, word games, coloring pages, and more included in these wonderful books!
My 7 yr old absolutely loves this book! The illustrations are amazing and it's very informative. When you add in the learning aspect it's a win win because he's having fun learning all about his favorite topic which keeps him engaged and focused!
There are so many cool activities in this book that will have kids of all ages learning about outer space! From crossword puzzles to code-breakers, coloring pages, word finds, and so much more, the author didn't leave anything fun out! Not only are the activities engaging, but they are also structured so that children can retain what they are learning as they go along.
And this book is not just relegated to learning about planets! Supernovas, space tourism, asteroids, there are literally so many things covered! I especially like that Pluto still gets its own page, just like every other planet, even after its demotion to a dwarf planet!
I'm going to have a hard time sharing this book with the grandkids! I want to enjoy the activities and learn more about space myself!
