Brannon Boys #1

Heat Transfer

Cor’s crush on the straight boy in sword fighting class has been unrequited, but with one crossed sword, that’s all about to change…

Cor

From the second I showed up for sword fighting class, Felix grabbed my attention. Yet not only was he straight, but he also had a girlfriend. However, the more we hang, the more I can’t help but hang on his every word, every look. And when he ends up newly single, I can’t stop my hopes from running rampant.

Felix

I’ve been accused of talking about my best friend Cor too much, but when my client mistakes us for boyfriends and invites us to the historical gala of our dreams…well, it’s time to ask him to be my fake date. Except fake dating Cor doesn’t just feel natural, it feels better than most relationships I’ve been in. And when my curiosity for more takes the wheel, we end up exploring everything.

We’re circling each other, just like we do in a sword fighting match, however, this isn’t just skill or reputation on the line. Far too fast, it becomes clear that I love him, and if he doesn’t feel the same, I won’t just be disarmed—losing him would deliver the finishing blow.

Geeky Queer Romance.

Katherine McIntyre is feisty with a big attitude despite their short stature. They write stories featuring snarky women, ragtag crews, and men with bad attitudes—high chance for a passionate speech thrown into the mix. As a genderqueer geek who’s always stepped to their own beat, they've made it their mission to write stories that represent the broad spectrum of people out there. Easily distracted by cats and sugar.

✨ARC REVIEW✨
I'm a fan of Katherine McIntire's brand of wholesomeness. This book is low angst and features some of my favs: friends to lovers, bi awakening, small top/bear bottom, fake relationship that is not that fake, and a big extended fun family. Cor has had a crush on straight Felix for months after they met at swordfighting class (the puns are endless, as you can imagine). They are friends, that kind of touchy-freely friends, but Felix is oblivious. Until a misunderstanding makes him ask Cor to be his fake boyfie. And ofc, the real thing just blooms. Cor is big and brawny but he really wants to bend over for the right man. And Felix is more than happy to oblige. The dirty mouth on that man is top notch for a baby bi. I loved that there was no drama in the awakening.
I also loved how each one gave the other what they needed: in Cor's case, being seen and appreciated for who he really is. And in Felix's case, what with his seizures, to understand he doesn't need to be patented and protected.

Super cute and sweet and Hot.

I picked this book because of the guy on the cover and that's it, that's the only reason.

I usually don't like too fluffy and very sweet romance books and this one was just that. It was sweet, it started out interesting, but quickly became predictable. What I did like was the cover guy character being a bottom for the smaller guy, but that's about it.

🟣 Amateur sword fighters (historical, hobby, it's where they meet)
🟠 Fake dating
🟢 Size difference (bear/twink)
🔵 Both in their 20's
🟢 Bi-awakening (gay/bisexual)
🟡 A lot of side characters from other series
🌶️ Sex scenes in the second half, quite a few, rimming, little oral, more penetrative; t/b (bear goes from vers-->b)

This is one of those stories where there's a lot of family involved on both sides, so you definitely need to read the other interconnected series first if you want to know who these people are.

Cor and Felix meet at a monthly sword fighting (why is it only once a month?), so they've met 6 times before they do the fake boyfriend thing for Felix's work's client's event. Cor has a crush on Felix and when Felix's girlfriend breaks up with him, he's crushing even harder.

The fake relationship stopped being fake before it even began.
Cor was cute and actually pretty cool to read about, Felix's bi-awakening was somewhat good, their sex life had its good moments, I liked the dirty talk and penetrative scenes, so overall a fairly nice couple wrapped up in a mediocre family and friends setting.

You get a lot of very skippable chapters of dialogues with brothers, their partners and parents (I read them, but if you don't, you're not missing out on anything). This family lunch, that family gathering, this game night, everything's connected to them.

The love story quickly becomes quite mundane and the sex is the only thing that saves it.
I couldn't find anything else to keep me reading until the end. It was honestly nothing special.

I think this author is not for me.

I love the Brannon family so much, and was so happy to see that the rest of the brother's were getting their own books!

Cor and Felix's book was the perfect start to this series. I'm such a sucker for fake dating romances, and I love a good ole queer awakening as well, so Heat Transfer was my bread and butter!

Cor and Felix were absolutely precious! The chemistry between them was fantastic, I loved the ease of their friendship turned relationship, and just thought they worked together so well.

Cannot wait for Declan's book next!

4.5 stars. You can’t ever go wrong with one of this author’s low-angst, high-heat romances! This is a spin off of the Hot Under the Collar series and while you don’t need to read them to read this book I highly recommend them!

I loved Cor and Felix. They were such fun characters and were awesome together. Even though I wished they talked sooner I’m still a fan of them and their fake dating! Their epilogue was super cute!

I highly recommend this author and series and can’t wait to read more of the Brannon brothers in the future!

Heat transfer kicks off a new series.

Cormac and Felix meet in a sword fighting club . Cormac is instantly attracted but straight Felix has a girlfriend so they are just friends.

Until Felix is single.

These guys have subtle touching and flirting down to an art, I don’t even think they realise they are flirting. Cormac has it bad and thinks it’s all one sided. It’s definitely not one sided. It’s so obvious to others that people mistake them for boyfriends.

Cormac and Felix are involved in several scenarios that require them to be ‘Fake Boyfriends’ while the chemistry between them is very much real.

Misunderstandings abound. Cormac thinks Felix is straight … probably because Felix says he is straight. Felix is starting to question himself. He also thinks he isn’t Cormac’s type but that’s cleared up and he is very much Cormac’s type.

“So maybe friends didn’t look at each other like they wanted to fuck. My bad.”

Once Felix realised his attraction - it was game one. Deliberately flirting, teasing, passionate kissing. His curiosity leads to the realisation that he is bisexual.

The guys are falling in love with each other. They are both holding back from turning this so called fake relationship to a real one. Cormac and Felix are adorable and honestly they just need a little bit more communication on what they want and where they want to this relationship to go.

“His words were teasing, but the qualifier in front of them had my heart clenching tight. Fake. That was what this was.”

Cormac is confrontational adverse so doesn’t communicate effectively with people in his life. It’s pretty anticlimactic when he does.

This is a sweet, low angst book. Other characters in this book have their own books too.

It’s such an enjoyable, easy, cute, and hot little story 😚 a real page-turner that I finished in just two sittings! (even though this is a mid-sized novel)

"Felix: The heat in his gaze was palpable, and a shiver rolled down my spine. Warmth stirred inside me, and lust pumped through my veins. He still wore that suit that hugged him in all the right places, and my traitorous libido was not immune.
“So, what do you think?” I turned around to flaunt my ass. I glanced back to see his gaze zeroed in there, and my body lit up. Ngh, okay. This would be a problem. All the flirty comments I’d made with him, the constant teasing, had probably been hellish for him. I tossed that thought into the pile of “to be dealt with later.”
“Uh, yeah. Definitely that one.” The slight rasp to his voice was telltale that this could affect him the same way it was me.
“You sure it’s not too tight?” I spun around again. One thing was getting tight, and it was my suit pants because of my stiffening cock. But I was having fun flashing my best assets in this suit.
Cor coughed into his hand. “I’m going to change out of this. Looks like we found what we need.” With that, he disappeared into the changing room again.
(...)
Help, I discovered my sexuality in a random boutique changing room."

Plot: 5/5
POV: 2

Main Characters:
5/5 – Cormac Brannon, Late 20s, he/him, cis-man, Nickname: Cor, has a beard, big bear & a size queen, works on his family contractor company, historical weapons geek, kind, sweet, quiet nature, shy, reserved, observant, loves to play with swords.
5/5 – Felix Ruiz, Late 20s, he/him, cis-man, Nickname: Fee, Puerto Rican heritage, wears glasses, small and has a big sword, IT, historical weapons geek, outgoing, sarcastic, funny, oblivious, also loves to play with swords.

These two are so cute!
I loved their easy dynamic.
Cormac having a crush on Felix since they met in Sword Play Classes was so cute.
He was always blushing around Felix. Because Felix was an oblivious flirt, it just made things worse for poor Cor, who had heart eyes every time he saw Felix.

I liked that Felix was super calm after finding out that he wasn’t as straight as he thought. It was refreshing.
This was very low angst, very chill. I had tons of fun reading this book.
I loved that they had to fake-date to go to a museum gala and were geeky fools over the medieval weapons. These two had so much in common!

The flirty sword puns, dirty talk, and exhibitionism were just funny and hot, hot, hot!

Loved reading their beautiful story.

“You look damn good, boyfriend.” I trailed a finger down the center of his chest. He shivered, enough that I could feel it, and my mind reeled with the headiness of that. His pupils were blown with lust, almost drowning out the blue.
Despite him being a big guy, he always exuded a gentle vibe, which had translated into my fantasies—pushing him to his knees or bending him over to fuck him. Ngh.
“You’re…you,” Cor croaked, and the blush that lit his cheeks had me giddy.
How had I missed the signals when we’d become friends? I’d thought he just got red easily, that he humored my neediness and extra PDA. However, the second he’d confessed his type and I’d realized that yeah, I was definitely into him, the cues clarified in my brain.
(...)
“I am, in fact, me,” I teased, stepping back to welcome him. “I hope that’s a good thing?”
“The best,” Cor said, his blue eyes softening with a vulnerability that struck me right in the solar plexus. Butterflies unleashed in my stomach, and fuck, I was fixated on him.
That. That was the inferno I’d been searching for.

Side Characters: 5/5

Cor’s family was a riot! They’re so funny, and I absolutely adore Cor’s brother, Ollie, and his partner, Liam. I can’t wait to read their story in Hot Under the Collar, the original series that Brannon Boys spins off from.

Marco, Fee’s brother, was also hilarious. Even though we didn’t get to meet much of Felix’s overbearing family, I loved seeing Marco’s little family and friends on game nights.

⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️Q⚔️u⚔️o⚔️t⚔️e⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️

“How fucked are they?” Liam asked, all chill curiosity. It wasn’t his livelihood up in flames if our computer was toast.
“Please tell me you back up your files regularly,” Felix called over to us.
“How mad are you going to be if I say no?” I gripped my nape.
“Oh, you’ll definitely be in trouble.” The low pitch of his voice sent a shiver through me. All too easily, I could imagine him shoving me down face-first on the bed, prying my cheeks open, and fucking me until I came.
My cock had stiffened to a semi, and my coveralls were not forgiving.
A file slapped against my chest, courtesy of Ollie. “Might want to skim over this.”
His blue eyes twinkled with mirth, and my body flushed in mortification. Fucking hell. I didn’t want to look at Liam, because guaranteed he’d figured out what was going on too. I dropped the file in front of my growing erection.
Felix rose from his hands and knees. “So, do you want to be filled in?”
Oh fuck. Not. Helping. Liam snickered, and I was half-tempted to kick him in the shin.
“Hit us with it.” I clutched the folder a little tighter, the nerves over the verdict on the desktop helping deflate my erection.

Felix stood straight and arched a brow. “You think I’m afraid of a little kiss?”
“Petrified.” A bit of challenge leaked into my tone. I licked my lips, which were impossibly dry. Felix’s stare was incendiary, lighting me up from the inside out.
“Well, now you’ve gone and done it.” The words were soft, and I almost missed them with the way tension crackled between us like arid air waiting for the lightning to strike. Felix and I were standing a breath apart, and then we weren’t.
His lips brushed against mine. The sparks were instantaneous, like a sliced sprinkler wire, and I moved in. Before my mind could take control, Felix did. He wrapped his hand around my nape and beckoned me in. I reeled from his palm pressing against my skin, his lips caressing mine.
Kissing Felix was all the adrenaline of a sword fight—the anticipation, the clash, the burn of the physical melding together. Except he took me higher than I’d ever soared. I’d imagined these lips for months, traced them over and over in my brain.

4.25 stars. Cormac (Cor) and Felix are best friends since they both joined sword fight classes. Secretly Cor fantasizes a bit about Felix.
He has all those filthy thoughts, and can’t stop them. He knows he’s off limits because Felix has a girlfriend. Oh, and he’s straight. Still, Cor has more than a soft spot in his heart for Felix.

Then, Felix announced his girlfriend had broken up with him. Cor has to pretend to be sad for him, but he isn’t, deep down there’s a flicker of hope. Bad, bad best friend!!

When Felix thinks about his ex-girlfriend he notices he isn’t that sad. He looks at Cor, all big, with dark brown hair, a thick beard, all brawn, yes definitely with more interest. He’s not even Cor’s type.
Wtf is happening, his body even reacts!

From his latest IT client, Felix got an invitation to attend a medieval swords exhibit, a gala. A dream come true. Of course, Cor will be his plus one.
The client is thrilled to meet his boyfriend. Huh? What? Boyfriend?
That’s how Felix asked Cor to be his fake boyfriend to attend the gala with him.

There’s more to Felix than his big flirty (read: filthy) mouth. There’s an ongoing inner battle to prove he’s capable of being and doing anything, he’s not only that kid who needed medical attention. It’s a process, he knows!

Of course, there’s more to Cormac, while he’s a big guy, he thinks he’s easily overlooked, invisible even. And he doesn’t want hookups, he wants the real deal. And his hookups expect him to top, while Cor desperately wants to be railed.
Guess what, there is a certain friend who wants to be that!

The longer they played fake (fuck) boyfriends around work, friends, and family, the harder it gets.
Con does a miserable job protecting his heart. Felix plays his part so easily.

I loved this read! It’s a high-heat, low-angst story! While there’s a lot of dirty talk, teasing, and banter with family and friends, there are also layers to find, wonderfully done!
The writing was great, with just that positive swing I love so much!
Overall it was a wonderful story, I enjoyed it very much!

Heat Transfer is the first book in Katherine McIntyre’s Brannon Boys series. Although this series is a spinoff of her Hot Under the Collar series, prior reading isn’t required to enjoy Heat Transfer. Here’s what you can expect from Cor and Felix:

⚔️ MM contemporary romance
⚔️ First person dual point of view
⚔️ Guaranteed happily ever after
⚔️ Low angst
⚔️ Bi-awakening
⚔️ Exhibitionism
⚔️ Fake dating
⚔️ Swordplay
⚔️ Vers characters, flip-fucking

This was a fun and easy read, and even though I’ve never read Katherine’s Hot Under the Collar series, I’ll definitely want to go back and check it out at some point. Cor and Felix were so cute together, and I love how they built a friendship first and it was based on their mutual love of sword fighting (yes, actual swordplay) and historical weaponry. Although they became quick friends after meeting in a Philadelphia sword fighting class, it isn’t until Felix breaks up with his girlfriend and they could both benefit from a fake boyfriend that their attraction and chemistry becomes clear. I enjoyed the easiness of their relationship, as well as Felix’s journey to realizing he’s bisexual coupled with Cor learning to assert himself more often. The spice in this book was excellent, and I love how the author incorporated exhibitionism into Cor and Felix’s intimate time together. I also appreciate when an author incorporates something unique or niche into their work, and the main characters’ love of sword play definitely fit the bill! Overall, this was a fun and enjoyable read.

I received an advanced review copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and am voluntarily leaving a review.

What is it about big guys submitting to smaller guys that's just so hot?

This book has been amazing from the get go. I loved how each of the MCs had issues that were dealt with because of being with each other. Their story was beautifully written and had me wanting more.

Felix is a fire cracker. The way this dude flirts so effortlessly had me flushed. He is smooth with his words and even smoother behind closed doors, if you catch my drift. And the fact that he fits right into Cormac's family? He is a KEEPER.

Cormac is such a softie. And his little crush on Felix is so adorable. This big guy is my favorite bottom. The way he was all but ready to give the reigns to Felix despite how rare such situations were was beautiful.

These two compliment each other so much to the point where they'd be married without actually tying the knot. The push and pull between them and banter was such fun read.

This is a low angst, medium read, with a family that has no filter, dirty jokes, hurt/comfort, side differences (👀), a vers bear, bi-awakening and lots of flirting (my favorite part).

Katherine writes books so fast and delivers them to us it’s hard to keep up with them but damn it I am going to try.
I absolutely loved the Hot under the Collar series and if you did as well this is Ollie’s brother. And definitely ready for more from them.
Cormac and Felix meet in a sword fighting class, can we get a more meet cute, and thru a miscommunication Felix’s boss thinks that Cor is his boyfriend. Umm Felix is straight?? Yeah even the ex doesn’t believe that one!
I cannot wait for the second book in this series and even more books from this author.

”So maybe friends didn’t look at each other like they wanted to f-ck. My bad.”

This is my first book by Katherine and it won’t be my last. Cor and Felix are so sweet and I loved everything about this low angst MM romance. I especially loved the banter among the Brannon family, the flirty lines between Cor and Felix, and their “fake dating” that was not so fake. I’m very much looking forward to the next book in this series ❤️❤️❤️

MC's:

⚔️🛠👉 Cormac (Cor) Brannon (he/him): Cis Man & Openly Gay
Mid to late 20s, a burly and strong contractor with chestnut hair, a thick brown beard, and broad shoulders that make him appear both approachable and grounded.
Quiet and reserved, Cor is thoughtful and not used to being in the spotlight, likely a result of being the middle child. Despite his gruff exterior, his warm brown eyes reveal a soft and caring soul. 🥰

🌟 Cor lives alone in Kennett Square, the same small town where his big, tight-knit family has always resided.

🌟 He works in the family business, Brannon Contractors, alongside his father and brother.
Outside of work, he’s an avid participant in a sword-fighting class, where he first met Felix, now his best friend... Whom he secretly has a crush on and is completely in love with.

🌟 Cor often underestimates himself, but his loyalty, humility, and steadiness create a quiet strength that anchors those around him. His best friend, Felix, helps him challenge his passive tendencies, encouraging him to be more vocal about his desires and priorities.

🤓💻👉 Felix (Fee) Ruiz (he/him): Cis Man & Straight (or so he thinks🤔)
Mid to late 20s, of Puerto Rican heritage through his mother, Felix has a slim build, dark eyes, bronze skin, and black curls that fall over his forehead, paired with a playful energy that makes him charming and magnetic.
His warm gaze and dazzling smile hide a flirtatious, cheeky side. 🥰

🌟 An IT professional, Felix works hard to advance his career.
He lives alone in Philadelphia, embracing the independence that comes with city life, though his close-knit family remains in Kennett Square.

🌟 Despite having a history of seizures, Felix keeps his condition well-managed with medication, experiencing them only rarely.
What truly frustrates him is how his family treats him as though he’s fragile, though he’s proven time and again that he’s capable and resilient.

🌟 He's passionate about sword-fighting and attends classes regularly as Cor. Felix’s fun, mischief, and occasional dirty banter that often leaves Cor flustered yet captivated. Beneath his teasing lies a deeply caring nature and an intuitive understanding of those he loves.

👏 An easy read, very well written, with moments of reflection, and also is a beautiful, heartfelt story. Packed with witty banter, playful teasing, and steamy moments, Heat Transfer strikes a perfect balance between humor and passion.
Felix’s bi-awakening is handled with ease and positivity, making the story even more satisfying.
Both characters bring out the best in each other: Felix helps Cormac feel seen and valued, while Cormac gives Felix the confidence to embrace who he is.

👉Their friendship is filled with subtle touches, lingering glances, and unintentional flirting that everyone else notices except them, I love how clueless they are. 😋🤭
When Felix finds himself single, he asks Cormac to be his fake boyfriend for a work event. 😵‍💫 The is Cormac has been secretly attracted to Felix for months, he agrees without revealing his feelings. 🌶 The two share a kiss at the event, and that moment sparks a shift in their dynamic (FYI it was more a hot make out session).

👉As Felix begins to question his sexuality and discovers he might be bisexual, their relationship evolves.
Misunderstandings arise... Felix assumes he’s not Cormac’s type, while Cormac thinks Felix’s feelings aren’t real.
🧲 Despite their doubts, the chemistry between them is undeniable, and their fake relationship quickly turns into something authentic and the open communication helps solidify their bond and deepens their connection.

👉The book also includes meaningful representation. Felix has a history of seizures, and his journey highlights the balance between independence and receiving support.

😂 Additionally, Cormac’s loud and loving family brings humor and warmth to the story, offering a delightful side characters.

▪︎FAV QUOTES▪︎

😏 ■ Cor: Felix had always been a flirt. A tease.
But I’d never suspected he was also a dirty talker.
“Anyone tell you you’re filthy?” I breathed out, trying to realign my dizzied mind. The lust pumping through my system made it too hard to focus on anything else.
...
“Go ahead, gorgeous. Take what you want,” Felix said as if he knew what his taunting did to me. With the dirty words pouring from his lips, it was hard to remember this was his first time with a guy. His first time with me.
Under the heady intensity of his gaze, I crawled out of whatever shell I’d hidden behind. Instead, I basked in the way he lit me up from the inside out, and that focused attention drove my need even hotter. I didn’t just want to be good for him. I wanted to be unforgettable.
...
“Fuck. You feel like sin.”
...
“You’ve got a beast between your legs—you know that, right?”
“That’s what I’ve been told.” He winked, that cocky charm effortless. His curls were swept over his forehead, and the smirk on his lips had my heart speeding up." 🤤🥵

■ Felix: A dopey grin was on his face, and his blue eyes were soft like watercolor. My chest exploded with butterflies."💗🦋

🫠 ■ "Felix: I’d never met anyone who looked at me like they saw the sunrise, but that was the only way I could describe his expression. And my heart ached with a fierceness that almost brought me to my knees."

■ "Felix: I didn’t think he realized how needy I could be, but so far, he hadn’t complained about the way I pretty much octopus-wrapped around him.
...
“Hope you’re ready for how incredibly needy you make me.”
...
Cor leaned in close enough his lips almost brushed the shell of my ear. “I can’t fucking wait.”
Truth was? Neither could I." 😍

I debated giving this 3 stars because I took so long to read it. It’s a very sweet low angst story. I did think it was incredible how easily Felix accepted being bisexual and his attraction to Cor. However, I did enjoy the story and I was rooting for them to make it real.

4.25 ☆

I enjoyed this book quite a lot! It was funny, spicy, sweet and a great time! It's also low-angst, which was awesome, because sometimes I really need something low angst and this delivered.

We are back in Kennett Square in this new series and we're following the Brannon boys. First up is Cormac, who has a huge crush on his swordplaying partner(pun not intended!), Felix. I loved that Cormac and Felix were actually friends before anything happened. I loved Felix's flirtyness, but also how adventurous and fun he is, and how he gets Cormac out of his safe space. Cormac on the other hand is so gentle and sweet, but he also tries to make himself smaller and just blend into the background. It was great to see that Felix didn't let him do that and actually stood up for him when it was necessary, but he also pushed Cor to stand up for himself and let his voice be heard. I loved their dynamic and how bossy and in control Felix was. I loved how naturally Felix dealed with his bi-awakening and how clearly he knew what he wanted right from the start. Their fake dating was fun, but they were only fooling themselves, because tjeir feelings where there throughout that. I really enjoyed how well they and their lives meshed and how natural it all felt.
The Brannon family is so fun and chaotic and I loved every scene they were in; so I'm very excited to read about more funny Brannon family shenanigans and banter.

Definitely pick this up if you're looking for a low-angst, fun and quick read.

Very enjoyable low angst story, including sword fighting (with real swords) and a wonderfully easy bi-awakening. The characters were interesting, and I really enjoyed all the banter. Good start to a new series.

Gotta love Cor and Felix because who doesn't love meeting the man of your dreams during a sword fight?

This is a terrific story, only the second I've read (so far!) by Katherine McIntyre that is low-angst, high-steam, and filled with terrific characters that you can't help but love. I definitely want to read more!

All i can say about this book is that Brannon Boys are gonna all own a piece of me. Cor is so delightfully innocent in his attraction to Felix. Felix, unaware to Cors intentions just prove these two should be together if they can just have the courage to admit to one another how much they appreciate the other. The banter is top-notch, where you just can't help but cackle. Mix in Felix ex isn't your typical ex she got that Felix shouldn't be with her but with someone who lights him up as his new friend does. The Brannon family is one of those families you can't help but want to be a part of and be weary of all at the same time. I can't wait to see where Kat takes this family.

Such a sweet series. I love how Cor and Felix get together. Cor loves Felix from afar, but he doesn't even realise that Felix is bi. Fate steps in, and Felix asks Cor to be his fake boyfriend. What follows is a cute, low angst romance. Cor and Felix grow much stronger and start to believe in themselves more. Cor begins to ask for what he wants, and Felix refuses to be defined by his ill health. Together they make a heckuva team. Once again Kat has written a lovely romance, which makes you smile, and is simply a hug in a book. Just what's needed at the moment, a cute, fairly uncomplicated read, that'll lift your spirits.

1st person, past tense, dual POV
Corman Brannon (20's), contractor at Brannon Contractors (family business)
Felix Ruiz (20's), IT consultant at Icarus Tech

While this is the first book of series of interconnected stories and it can be read as a standalone, it should be known that it is a spin-off of the Hot Under the Collar series. The final book of that series, Joint Penetration, features Cor's brother, Ollie, and his best friend, Liam, who make appearances in this book along with other side characters. In fact this book has a pretty large cast of characters with all of the family and friends, while, while fun, can get a little overwhelming when they are all together.

I'm a sucker for accidently dating/fake dating and with how close these two were even before they assumed the ruse of dating to help Felix save face with a client who assumed Cor was his boyfriend due to the way he talked about him I was enjoying their teasing banter. Their relationship progression felt natural, it was fun to watch the gears shift and see the turning point in Felix's interest and attraction to Cor. Once he realized what he was feeling all bets were off and he turned up the flirting so that even if Cor weren't already absolutely smitten with him, he didn't stand a chance.

I loved that there was no bi-freak out, and that the miscommunication that did occur in the book was pretty superficial and easily overcome, the reader never once questioned whether these two should be together, their chemistry and the way they complemented each other, both in and out of the was very evident.

I adored that the Aria/Felix break-up went as smoothly as it did, not ever ex- has to be evil incarnate. I wish that the Luke/Cor breakup had taken a similar route because I kept waiting for something to happen with that storyline. It felt like wasted tension, similar to Felix's worry about impressing his client so he could get the big promotion at work. I guess that's one of the things I struggle with stories that are almost two low-angst, there isn't much to keep the reader engaged outside of the sexy times and warm fuzzies. I expect more of an arc to the story, while it stays pretty calm and flat. It's very enjoyable, if not hugely memorable.

Still, if you're looking for a light, low-angst, high heat story I recommend this or another of the author's books, since I've enjoyed every one of them that I've picked up.

I was given an ARC and voluntarily wrote an honest review.

Soooo. I liked Cor more than Felix but I think they made a cute couple tho it started coming off as Felix only thought about sex at first while Cor was smitten from the beginning 🥲

I could've done without Cor thinking about his sexual preferences in such a crude way like " sinking into a warm hole" or Felix talking about how if his past partners could talk then he wasn't fucking them properly WHILE having sex with Cor.

But those are my personal pet peeves..

Also not the biggest fan of the time skips..they would go to bed and then the next chapter would be the other's POV a few days later.

And when side characters from the previous books got on page it became too much with how everyone was connected and who was dating who..like so many characters on page at once and I just didn't care for them 🙈

I DID like how there was very little relationship angst. It was mainly Felix thinking about how he didn't want to jump into a relationship right away since he had just recently been broken up with but he wanted to keep exploring his sexuality with Cor. And Cor being smitten and willing to take anytime Felix gave him even if they were operating as ' fake ' dating at the beginning.

It didn't feel like Felix was being a very good friend with wanting to explore things with Cor but not talking about how he wasn't ready for a relationship but I couldn't fully blame him when Cor wasn't talking about it either.

...but then Felix also says it was never fake for him either ? So why all that time talking about how he didn't wanna jump into a relationship in his head?

In the end..it felt more sexual and surface level than I would've liked.

And when it quacks like a duck and acts like a duck but they're still saying it's not a duck is a personal pet peeve of mine. Even if it was all in the inner monologue.

I did like all the hand holding. 🥺
Not the biggest fan of how cocky Felix is. 😒

This review is a mess but so am I and I'm embracing it for the new year. ✌️

•Size difference
• smaller top
• exhibitionists
•no others after getting together tho Felix's girlfriend breaks up with him at the start of the book and Cor has an ex from a month ago.
•Felix's ex gf is chill and only makes one appearance while Cor's ex is a bit persistent in getting him back but doesn't cause drama only in the story to make Cor learn to speak up for himself.
• bi awakening with Felix being chill and Cor constantly going ' how are you not freaking out ' after every experience 🙈

Heat Transfer by Katherine McIntyre is the kind of romance that feels like a warm hug—a sweet, heartfelt story that leaves you smiling from start to finish. This series opener delivers all the charm and chemistry you could hope for, with Cor and Felix’s journey hitting all the right notes for a cute, low-angst love story.

Cor has quietly admired Felix from afar, never daring to dream that the feelings could be mutual. Felix, on the other hand, is blissfully unaware of Cor’s affections—until fate intervenes. A misunderstanding with a client prompts Felix to rope Cor into a fake-dating arrangement, and what follows is a delightful slow-burn romance that will have you grinning the whole way through.

As the story unfolds, both characters experience meaningful growth. Cor learns to stand up for what he wants, while Felix refuses to let his ill health define him. Their relationship not only deepens their bond but also empowers them individually. Together, they make an incredible team, their strengths complementing each other in ways that feel natural and deeply satisfying.

Katherine McIntyre has a knack for creating lovable characters, and the dynamic between Cor and Felix is no exception. Their teasing banter and easy camaraderie make their fake-dating arrangement feel so real that it’s hard not to root for them from the very beginning. Watching Felix realise his feelings for Cor and then turn up the charm was a joy, especially since Cor was already hopelessly smitten.

One of the standout elements of this story is its refreshing take on bi representation—there’s no “bi freak-out” moment, just authentic, effortless acceptance. The miscommunications that do arise are minor and quickly resolved, ensuring the focus stays on the undeniable chemistry and emotional connection between the leads.

The story also introduces a large and lively cast of side characters, including appearances from Cor’s brother Ollie and his best friend Liam, who featured in the Hot Under the Collar series.

What to expect:

💖 Fake dating
💖 Slow-burn romance
💖 Bi rep with no drama
💖 Low angst, sweet moments
💖 Empowering character growth
💖 Dual POV (1st person, past tense)

If you’re in the mood for a light, feel-good romance with characters who genuinely bring out the best in each other, Heat Transfer is the perfect pick. Whether you’re new to Katherine McIntyre’s books or already a fan, this one is guaranteed to lift your spirits.

[I received an advanced copy of this book. All reviews and ratings are my own.]

Katherine McIntyre is rapidly becoming an author that is an immediate read for me, and Heat Transfer is one of the reasons why.

This book is everything I didn't know I wanted or needed in a book: swords, unspoken longing, fake dating, bi-awakening, and a big bear of a man coming completely undone under the hands of his fake boyfriend. Every trope hit exactly right, and the way Cor's tough exterior absolutely dissolves into softness and vulnerability around Felix? Absolute beauty. It's not often that we get characters that defy stereotypes and the author handles it so perfectly, allowing Cormac to get what he wants without embarrassment or insecurity.

Cor and Felix's journey from fake boyfriends to the real thing is like watching a perfectly executed duel. The sword-fighting metaphors are woven throughout the story in a way that is amusing but not overdone, and that highlights their chemistry. While Felix's realization and acceptance that he isn't as straight as he always thought might seem almost too easy, when you add in the host of queer side characters that surround both Cor and Felix, it makes perfect sense that he would just go with it.

Felix isn't without his own insecurities, though. A lifelong medical issue has made his family treat him as though his fragile, and caused past lovers to end relationships when it became real to them. McIntyre's depiction and handling of this is careful and authentic, and makes the emotional payoff that much sweeter. And his ability to get Cor to see that he's not invisible and worth more than he thinks is ::Chef's kiss::

This book is a five-star gem - it's funny, it's tender, and I'm absolutely in love with the entire cast of characters. The only downside to this book? Having to wait until June for book 2. That's going to be absolute torture.

Here's "Heat Transfer." The very first novel in Katherine McIntyre's brand new series, Brannon Boys.

["Cor’s crush on the straight boy in sword fighting class has been unrequited, but with one crossed sword, that’s all about to change…

Far too fast, it becomes clear that I love him, and if he doesn’t feel the same, I won’t just be disarmed—losing him would deliver the finishing blow."]

Don't you love fake dating tropes? PLUS friends to lovers?!?! ANNND turning some cliches on their head???!!!Yes, please.

These two were adorable as fuck and entertaining as hell. Cor was already head over heels for Felix, but it didn't really help his feelings when Felix's friendly flirty turned more steamy. Felix was weirdly obsessed with Cor since they became friends, but a breakup plus a funny clothing mishap has his eyes open to soooo much more.

I can't wait for the rest of this series (and the rest of the Brannon brothers to get their chaotic HEAs).

This book is book1 in the Brannon Boys series. Apparently it is a spin-off from the Hot Under the Collar series. As this is a fairly new to me author, I haven't read the earlier series and I was able to fully enjoy this book. Perhaps having read the earlier series would have made it easier to follow which brother is with which person. There are a lot of Brannon siblings.

This is the story of Cor (Cormac) and Felix. The two first met at a sword fighting class and have been the best of friends ever since. The only problem is that Cor is obsessed with Felix. Even knowing that Felix is straight and has a girlfriend doesn't diminish Cor's attractions. But still, Cor is going to be the best friend that he can to Felix. When Felix's girlfriend dumps him, Cor is there to help prop Felix back up. And if it sparks a flame in his heart of hope, that is totally understandable. When Felix is being gifted two tickets to a historical gala involving swords as a thank you for his excellent work on a project, it accidentally ends up with the host believing that Felix is bringing his boyfriend as his plus one. Knowing that Cor would love to see the exhibition as well, he explains what happens and that he needs a fake boyfriend. Not surprisingly, Cor is ready for the job. And when his family mistakenly thinks that Felix is his boyfriend, Cor asks Felix to continue to charade. This is their story.

I really enjoyed this book. It is well written and easy to read. I liked watching their relationship grow. I especially liked how they brought out the best in each other. Cor treated Felix like an adult and Felix made Cor feel seen. They were perfect for each other. This is a low-angst high heat story. I can't wait for the next book in this series.

I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Corman was attracted, probably even more than that, to a straight man. He couldn’t figure out how he had such a magnetic draw to the man, but it was completely undeniable. Since the man he wanted had a girlfriend and didn’t like men, forming a friendship was the next best thing. He needed to avoid looking at him too much, but otherwise, a friendship would be great.

Felix was straight, had a girlfriend, and liked Cor as a friend. Sure, he found himself getting closer and wanted to be around him more. Maybe he had gone hard on the friendship thing, but overall, it was just a guy he really liked. Until he was single, and his libido started sending him signals that were surprising.

Apparently, Felix wasn’t that straight, and when a fake boyfriend situation arises, the two of them might get what they want.

OPINION: This book was a lot of fun. A quick read with some great guys. I couldn’t get enough of the Brannon family. They were loud and direct. I loved them! I am excited to see how Declan’s story comes together. There are so many fun things in the story, such as bi-awakening and a fake boyfriend. The story of them figuring out how to be a couple while being a couple is fun. There is a lot of humor, and both men are wonderful. I was charmed by both of them and knew they would figure it out even though they really stumbled along. Both men had lessons to learn and embraced those changes. It’s a great story with some great guys, plus you get a whole lot of spice. All the spice works well with the story and isn’t just there because it fits and is wonderful. I can’t say it enough: these guys are great. I would be friends with them, and I was so glad that they got their happily ever after. Get some cocoa and a blanket and read this. It’ll make you feel good.

[ I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Transfer Heat is a low angst, high heat mm romance by Katherine McIntyre . She always writes quality hot nerdy heros and these two check those off. I adore Cormac was a big sweetheart and Felix paired with him perfectly. Felix makes him feel seen after growing up in a big family where he felt over looked. Cormac in return treats Felix the way he wants to be treated , like the strong capable man he is and not the sick little brother with seizures. The flirting and constant touches on the day to day result in delicious bedroom steam . This friends to lovers romance has a fake boyfriends plot and is filled with brothers who overshare , sword fighting , game nights ,bi awakenings , PDA , dirty talk and high steam.

Favorite Quotes:

Felix fit in my arms like he belonged there, and the tug in my gut was undeniable.

My skin quivered at the touch, his effortless tease. His constant closeness did things to me, lit me on fire, even though it would never amount to anything. Even if I desperately wanted it to.

Even though I could see the train wreck to my heart that pretending to be Felix’s boyfriend would be, a selfish part of me couldn’t bear to pass up the opportunity.

Kissing Felix was all the adrenaline of a sword fight— the anticipation, the clash, the burn of the physical melding together.

“Don’t know how.” My chest burned in irritation at the shit way he saw himself. Just because he was a quiet, relaxed guy didn’t mean he fell into the background. “Every time I see you, you’re front and center.”
