Marriage proposal or business proposition? When Charisse steps out of a job interview, she's met with an offer that blurs the lines between the boardroom and the altar. Dru Martin, a billionaire married to his job, proposes a deal rather than a romance—a marriage of convenience to fulfill family obligations. Charisse TurnerThe last thing I expected after interviewing for a job was a marriage proposal, especially from Dru Martin, the sexy Black billionaire I met the night before. But here I am, contemplating a contract that could change my life. I need the money, and Dru seems nice enough. Yet, the closer I get to Dru, the more I wonder if my heart is part of the bargain. Dru Martin Running an empire is easy; it's love that's complicated. So, when my mother gave me an ultimatum to settle down or forfeit the family empire, I did what any savvy businessman would do—I proposed a a simple contract of marriage to Charisse, a woman intriguing enough to make this charade bearable. If we follow the plan with scheduled kisses and coordinated social media posts, we can convince everyone we’re in love. But when the lines start to blur, I'm left questioning whether this arrangement is just about business, or something more.
This book held so much promise. I enjoyed the general plot of it, but I felt as if the author didn’t do a good job of giving us much detail. Every scene seemed to blend into the next without a proper transition and we were given circumstances with no real resolution or detail.
For example, we were presented with the idea of Charisse and her family not being close and her finding out that her sister doesn’t share the same father she does. We never get a confrontation scene or much else besides her sister laughing it off and her father completely ignoring Dru at the sister’s engagement party. We don’t get a real resolution on the cheating fiancé plot point either.
There are so many other moments in the story I wish the author would have expanded upon, so I have to give this story 2 stars.
The story had potential. It was different. I only wish Dru and Charisse had acknowledged their feelings since it became confused toward the end. The connection between Dru and Charisse was there; they had nice moments, but it seemed as if one minute they were going somewhere and then something occurred, I'm not sure what. Also, the author did not do a good job of providing more details on certain issues.
The Love under contract story was my first book by this author. I enjoyed book one with Dru and Charrise in their fake relationship story. Her friends were too funny. And we all know a love story usually has a narcissistic person, and that would be Charrise's snooty sister. Her reality check is going to be a mother load. I enjoyed this slow burn love story.
I enjoyed meeting Dru and Charisse!! They made such a cute couple and made me feel all the things!! Dru literally sweeps Charisse off her feet and for the most part treats her like the queen we all deserve to be treated as. The story was beautiful, cute and quick. There wasn't really any moments that were bogged down by unnecessary things and I things flowed nicely. There was only a little bit of spice in this but it was hot! I can't wait to see what's in store for the other brothers!! This is a definite recommend!
More of a 2.5 This has so much potential to be great. The story is interesting, and the author has something interesting with exploring the guilt Dru and Charisse feel alongside their growing feelings. The pacing is off and the writing, dialogue, and actual plotting of the narrative is choppy and underdeveloped. More practice/training/growth as a writer and a really good editor would take this up several notches.
This is my first read from Nina High and I absolutely enjoyed it!!! I love fake relationships and the way Nina showed the differences in Dru and Charisse through their navigating their agreement. They were getting on my damn nerves, I just wanted them to be together. I will say the family storylines felt a bit incomplete….idk I guess I was expecting Dru to talk to his mother about how he felt. I did read the bonus chapter so I’m glad there was some resolution with Charisse. Overall though I enjoyed this one, excited to get into the other books in the series!!!
This was such a fun listen! I absolutely loved this story, and Dru and Charisse’s relationship. The build up and how it all unfolded kept me hooked from beginning to end. The way he spoiled her, and even her friends, was billionaire perfection. But it all felt authentic and sweet. Speaking of Charisse’s friends, they were hilarious and maybe my favorite part. There were plenty of humorous moments that balanced the dramatic and emotional ones perfectly. This was my first book by this author but I will definitely be reading more!
🎙️𝗔𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗢𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞 ⇣ J.Y. Kora and Lawrence Baldwin were fabulous narrators, I loved their performances and the way they brought Charisse and Dru, and the rest of the characters, to life!! I highly recommend. Produced by Lyric Audiobooks through the Audio in Color program 👏🏼

Thank you to Must Love Audio and Nina High for the ALC!
I actually suck at book reviews but I wanted to leave one for this one. Definitely left me in my feelings. I wish it was a bit more steamy. We only got one scene but the build up to it was worth it! This was a really cute trope and the author nailed it!
Okay so I’m giving this 3.5 stars read & the short answer for why that is simple:
DRU 😭😡
Please Note: I definitely enjoyed this & i would say if you like a quick read about billionaire romance with some comedy then definitely give it a read 🤗🩵
Now this story follows Dru (a billionaire who came from family wealth and wants to take over his mom’s business in hopes to keep the family legacy going) & Charisse ( a high school teacher who has way too much debt in student loans but is content with her life for the most part but would be happier if debt were gone and she experienced life more)
By some sudden chance, a decision is made, a contract between the two is drawn up and everything is going according to plan but Dru had toooooo many “oopsie daisy” moments for me.
“To catch feelings or to not catch feelings” “tell the truth or not” *physically runs away but spoils her immediately after* sooooooo many details 😭😭🤣 BUT from start to finish: THE STORY KEPT ME ENTERTAINED!!
Charisse’ best friends are funny & supportive, her family is insufferable, and seeing Charisse lavish in the billionaire life was fun to read about. I just wish that we were given a bit more of scenes that looked fun. Like Charisse’ shopping spree, or the girls shopping spree or the debriefing with the girls after Charisse & Dru…. Connected 🤣🤣😭
Their names for the “meter” range were insane 😭🤣🌶️
Charisse and her besties dynamic are funny and it gives a sense of sisterhood so I would’ve loved seeing more detailed moments. Jumping from scene to scene was thing but again, from interactions to laughter I was entertained for the most part!!
For the most part, it was a good quick read, if I knew Dru in real life, I’d tell him about himself swiftly oh and I wanted Porsche to slap him at one point! Idk I think he needed that 👀🤣
Prepare to be enchanted by "Love Under Contract", a captivating contemporary black romance that will leave you smiling from ear to ear! From the moment I opened page one, I was absolutely hooked by the undeniable chemistry between Charisse and Dru. I was swept away by Dru's generosity, charisma, and irresistible charm.
Nearly every interaction with the characters - Dru and his family (especially those twin brothers of his), Charisse and her two best friends - were crackling with wit and humor.
But "Love Under Contract" isn't just about the laughs - it's also a heartfelt exploration of love, friendship, and self-discovery. As Charisse and Dru navigate the ups and downs of their fake relationship, they both learn valuable lessons about trust, vulnerability, and the true meaning of love.
Author Nina High has crafted a story that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious, with characters so vibrant and real you'll feel like they're old friends. So if you're in the mood for a romance that will make you laugh, swoon, and believe in the power of true love, look no further than "Love Under Contract".
Why y’all be breaking up so close to the end but the realization at the end was IT! I loved this whole relationship and how they fell in love. Arranged marriages are so cute to me, well in books they are. The falling in love part is always so authentic and worth it. I also like how they didn’t just pop up married and it was the whole phase of a real relationship. I loved them during this whole book.
Good book overall but it was a couple things that we never got a conclusion for. There was never a confrontation with the family for how they treat her, the whole uncle-daddy situation, or the cheating finance. It just felt incomplete. Like will we find out more in the next book or are we just moving on and not addressing the issues that played a big role in the FMC’s development?
LOVED THIS BOOK! From the start I knew I would rate it high. To be fair I’m a sucker for a billionaire romance but it was done so well! I loved the characters and the story. The build up to them falling in love was done perfectly and the banter was so good! I found myself giggling multiple times. I can’t wait to read the next book and explore her catalog!
Who knew supporting a friend could turn into a fake dating/marriage of convenience? I really love when teacher's get a little glow up bc truly they deserve the world. Dru is a bit of a square but he makes up for it with his thoughtfulness. Overall cute story but maybe a bit too long.p, it started to drag at the end.
CN: family secrets, strained relationships, income insecurities, cheating,
First of All I thoroughly enjoyed this story , it was a page turner and I could put it down lol ! Nina had me skressed 🤦🏾♀️ Omg Dru is such a confused in love type of guy , Common sense that he was falling for Charisse but for some reason he didn’t know what to do with those feelings 😩 Now Charisse on the other hand she wanted to give them a chance but fell in line when Dre naked face ahh 🙄 wanted to remind her of her role 😑! But my boy got his $hit together which made me so happy 😁! 🗣 Charisse Mammy and sister WEIRD AF 👏🏾👏🏾 And Some hater 😒! lol
My first billionaire romance and I loved it! This was so cute! Dru is so swoon worthy. Charisse is a beautiful MC inside and out. Can’t wait for the rest of this series!
This was a new one all around; new author and narrators and yall I freaking LOVED it. I mean marriage of convenience already had me halfway sold but Charisse and Dru’s story just sealed the deal! With marriage of convenience, you know tensions and denial will be running high. I love the fight, the push and pull. The when will they!? (Because we all know it’s coming, just a matter of when). When I tell you, Nina High delivered on a hot yummy platter!! A charming, cinnamon roll billionaire who sweeps me off my feet? Who wants to spoil me AND MY FRIENDS?? Oh HYFR.🧎🏾♀️➡️ I loved the friendship and sibling dynamics and can’t wait to check out more stories in this series.
J.Y. Kora and Lawrence Baldwin brought this story to life fantastically with their performance. The denial, tension, emotions…all of it was deliciously thickened with their narration. I look forward to more from both of them.
Love, Under Contract is my first book from the author Nina High and I really really enjoyed the story and the characters! Charisse and Dru are atypical Black characters and they're the perfect pair in Love, Under Contract.
In Love, Under Contract, we meet Charisse a struggling school teacher Charisse and Dru, a workaholic whose mother has promised him the family business if he settles down. A mutual attraction and shared needs, leads Dru to propose a marriage of convenience to Charisse - she'll no longer struggle because he'll pay her to be his wife - and he'll get the family business because he'll get the wife he needs.
The FMC, Charisse, is relatable and down-to-earth...just what you want in a female lead in a marriage of convenience romance. While the MMC, Dru, is sexy, smart, rich, and generous...everyone's dream. My favorite interaction between Charisse and Dru happens when flies Charisse to her dream vacation in Puerto Rico, then surprises her by flying out her two best friends Porsche and Lily:
"You didn't have to do this." I tell Dru when we're alone. "I know," he tells me. "But I wanted to. And I can. So I did."
I want to hear a man say that to me right now.
Though the pacing and storytelling felt a bit off at times for me, the book grabbed my attention right from the first page and it's pretty fast paced. I couldn't put it down, so I finished in about 2 days. 🤭
With Love, Under Contract we get a dual POV book about mother-daughter relationships; finding balance in life and relationships; and found family.
The characters are lovable and the story is very engaging for the most part. And I am really excited to read the other 2 books in the series. If you're looking for a lighthearted marriage of convenience romance and you enjoy the found family trope, you'll really enjoy Love, Under Contract.
Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️
Content Warnings: Moderate: Toxic relationship, Sexual content, Abandonment, and Cursing Minor: Emotional abuse, Infidelity, Bullying, and Alcohol
This story was so sweet and funny, and with a touch of spice and a bit of found family, I found myself falling head over heels for these characters.
I loved that Charisse and Drew went from meet cute to marriage of convenience to in love in about 3 seconds flat. While this surely counts as love at first sight, it felt like there was more to it than a few glances and I really enjoyed that aspect of their story.
The audio was great. J.Y. Kora and Lawrence Baldwin did a wonderful job with the narration and I loved this listen. Thank you so much to Must Love Audio for the advanced copy!
I rated this book 3.75 stars it’s so good that I dayum near rated it 4 ⭐️s. It’s my favorite romantic troupe, fake/arranged marriage. It’s also a slow burn romance but it works here because of the circumstances.
Dru is the son that wants to take over the family business. However his mother is concerned that his life revolves around work only. So she tells him that she won’t retire until he marries.
Charisse has fought for everything her entire life. Fought to go to college and amassed a ton of student loans to do so. She’s drowning in debt and is barely making it.
They meet at a paint and sip. But Dru neglects to get her number. A little while later they meet again at his family’s store and that’s when Dru comes up with the fake marriage idea and they’re off to the races.
I think the thing that got me was the guilt they had over the fake marriage. It seems like a little much cause they willingly entered into the contract. But it didn’t ruin the book for me.
However, I loved Charisse’s relationship with her girls. I felt for her because of her relationship with her family. The relationship Dru had with his siblings was cool too. And the book made me howl in laughter in some spots. As with all fake/arranged marriages they fall in love and get their HEA.
Finally the second epilogue is everything. Borrowed this from Kindle Unlimited.

My thoughts: There was some baby math I did not agree with Jurnee appears in chapter 2 of this book but nearly 2 months into the relationship she's only 6 weeks old, I'm not buying it. I loved everything else about the story I'm probably going to finish the series today.
Bonus Chapter - This was too juicy to pass over. I couldn't believe it was skipped in the novel so I gave up my information and even downloaded an app to find out the resolution to this side story. So I read it and it was okay. Could use a final edit.
Recommend to others: Yes. This is one of the best books I've read by this author.
The Martin Brothers 1. Love, Under Contract (2024) 2. Love, From Scratch (2024) 3. Love, Undercover (2024) 4. Love, at Christmas (2024)
Memorable Quotes: High school seniors are truly the best grade. They are so close to being adults, but they’re still ignorant baby fools. It’s a wonderful mix. By the end of the year, they’re miniature adults with more reasoning skills and maturity. They’re still fools, but teenager fools. We aim for growth not perfection.
Markita sings the song and sounds like a miniature Whitney herself. I smile and get out of my seat and start snapping as Markita repeats the same two lines over and over again. “What do you know about Ms. Whitney?” I ask, turning the music down. “Miss Turner, I know she had big hair and was famous in the 1900s.” I grind my teeth and attempt to reset the conversation before they destroy my self-esteem and make me feel ancient. The 1900s. I can’t stand this generation.
My chart paper is already up and ready. The markers are out. I love setting up a class for an activity. Sometimes I wish I’d been an elementary teacher, but little kids throw up and pee themselves too much for me. And they whine, and their parents complain, and I don’t actually like little kids. Porsche comes swirling in almost immediately after my last student leaves my classroom. “Did you leave before your kids did?” I chuckle. She loves her job, but she’s done at 3:30 p.m. every day and not a minute after. “I let them leave two minutes early. I’m tired. And my feet hurt in these shoes.” “No one told your high-maintenance ass to wear those heels to work.” “You never know whose weekend daddy ended up with them for the week. I had parking lot duty this morning. Some freshmen get dropped off still. You know I love a weekend daddy! There’s nothing better than some Wednesday wings and single-daddy dick.” I get up from my desk and close my classroom door. God, she’s every bit of too much all the time. “Something is wrong with you,” I screech, shaking my head.
Those first few years were beyond tough, and I was well on my way to becoming a statistic in the teaching profession. I don’t do it for the money because where even is it? But I do love the schedule. Working from eight until 3:30 plus fall break, winter break, spring break, and summer break makes it worth it for me. I completely dissociate from my job, and I have no regrets. Tonight, after stopping by the farmer’s market to get ingredients for the dish I’m making in our weekly BFF potluck, I’m going to fill out some applications. I don’t need a new job, but I do need a part-time job. These student loans are ruining my life.
Madeline Martin, who refuses to even consider going by M&M even though she’s the exact same color as the chocolate inside and her signature red lipstick matches the candy coating, commands our dinner table as she has since we were children. She commands it like she does the boardroom of SoftScape, the luxury bedding company she founded twenty years ago bringing our family from the middle class to the highest level of upper class. We rented a three bedroom house for years, and I know my parents struggled at times, but Mom’s ingenuity, hard work, and dedication to her company literally helped us do what most people never do, move up in class.
“I’m ready to retire. And you know as my youngest and my businessman, SoftScape is yours. Well, it should be. Hopefully it will be.” I frown. What does she mean “hopefully”? It’s been common knowledge since I graduated with my MBA that I’d take over SoftScape. What’s she talking about? “You’re too focused on your job, Dru. Too focused on money and social media and work. When was the last time you brought a girl home? Not just to your bed?” My face gets hot. Mom should never bring up my sex life, and even more never at the dinner table. “Ma!” “I’m serious Dru. You will not take over this company and live your manicured life through your phone. I have enough pillows and comforters. I need grandchildren.” Dreya clears her throat. Mom is holding Dreya’s three-week-old daughter. She rocks Jurnee, places a kiss on her forehead, and looks up at me. “More. I need more grandchildren, Dru.”
“Do you have some vegan pie for me?” he says in return, smiling at me with that gorgeous smile of his.
This book has potential but it needs more editing. The story isn't flushed out fully and it didn't flow well. There were typos and parts that were repetitive. For instance, they kept saying the lying disgusted them and everything was disgusting. Okay, we get, it you don't like lying to everyone. It was also annoying because the agreement wasn't disgusting when they were benefiting from it.
I also think the characters needed more development. I found the mains annoying but especially the woman. She kept bringing up the money and so did her friends and made them annoying. Dru was annoying because he kept making the same mistake rather than slowly starting to change. There also wasn't any real progression to get them to their HEA. The arguments were the same until they decided they were going to be together instead of subtle changes leading up to the big moment.
The overall plot is a good idea, the book just needs a better editor. Hope the author continues to grow.
Cute concept poor execution. While the main characters have some chemistry they lack real angst. A lot of the choices they make are so basic. She underdevelops the conflict and never gives a resolution to the FMC issues with her family.
Left wondering why did his mom shade her during their first meet?
Why didn’t they transition to a marriage for love earlier
Why does the FMC seem like a gold digger at some points?
What happened to the coffee table he makes inspired by her?
What’s up with the sisters suspicious shade during the phone call?
What’s the FMC’s relationship like with her dad? He’s there for the sister’s engagement party but is never mentioned again after.
This book fell onto my fyp on TikTok and I'm not mad at it!! I've even started to read the next book in the series. I feel in love with the MMC and MFC and their love story. The banter, the acts of service, and how you can see the growth in there two characters was everything in this book. Please read 10/10 recommend!!!
This just seems like an unfinished book. The author introduced plot points and never followed through on many of them. FMCs family, MMCs businesses. It was all over the place.
