Mira Jane Ulteer has one rule. Don’t get involved with the client. No matter how hot, charming or mysterious. But her resolve is tested when she meets with Ash Vanté, one of the most famous fashion designers in the world that no one really knows anything about. She struggles to keep her distance from him, and soon their undeniable, electrifying attraction boils over. Will she overcome the obstacles from her past and keep Ash safe, or will she be left with a shattered heart and no one to protect?
Madison Abigail is from San Diego, California, now located in Chandler, Arizona. She’s a lover of K-Pop, getting lost in romance books and has a thing for going to concerts whenever she has the free time. When she’s not writing or listening to live music, she’s selling books at her local Barnes and Noble. Madison has always had a thing for writing and was notorious for her Wattpad fanfics in 2015, never giving up that dream.
First off, you know damn well what got me to read this book was the name of the main character. Vante? I see you, Madison Abigail. I ate up what you were putting down.
The tension was *chef's kiss* beautiful. I truly enjoyed how they didn't just go straight to screwing and how both of them had to work through their shit before getting there. The growth of Mira Jane was amazing.
There were a couple of formatting issues but hell if I cared about that, cause this book had me by the throat.
This story had a lot of potential, but there were parts that were quite underdeveloped, in my opinion. The characters were interesting, and the plot itself felt very fresh.
I liked that the heroine wasn't your typical female described in romance books — far from it, and she felt real in my mind. I couldn't really relate to Ash; there was something off about his character. The intimate scenes were well done.
I think this author has a promising future, but for now, she still needs a bit of practice developing her stories and characters. I would read her next books to see how she grows.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
A good balance between plot/action and romance/spice? Check.
Unique concept? Check.
Gorgeous cover? Check.
It takes a while to find a book that really has it all especially when you come across books online with indie authors promoting their books but this one was a pleasant surprise and a diamond in the rough. Reading this felt more like throwing myself in the middle of a whole bunch of drama and I was just EATING. IT. UP.
I was living for the role reversal idea this book set up where the FMC, Mira, is this badass woman who knows exactly what she wants and isn't afraid to speak up for herself and make it everyone else's problem. She has a soft side that's a bit messy but honestly that's what made me relate to her more but beyond all of that?
The MMC, Ash, is not your copy and paste bad boy with trauma and only likes Mira, he's soft but feisty and absolutely worships the ground that she walks on.
Nothing got me kicking my feet and giggling than watching the two of them interact. Not only is she the bodyguard in this equation but the chemistry is instant and distracts you just enough from the real dangers lurking right in front of their faces of who just might be after Ash's life; or both of theirs.
Definitely would have loved to see more being done with the action and touching on both their backstories, but this was a great read nonetheless!
At the end of the day my one real complaint was that it ended and I wish there was more to the epilogue but it was still satisfying to see how it all came together, but also please! Needed! Ash's! POV! It really had me drawing up theory boards in my mind trying to keep up with the drama and the secrets.
I found this book on TikTok by the author. I thought the concept of this book was really cool (FMC bodyguard x MMC fashion client) and so I put it on my TBR, picked it up at Barnes & Noble -and started reading.
I had a hard time getting through this book.
The characters for me were very bland. The story was just kind of chaotic -I couldn’t figure out what the plot was. And then when the plot finally did get recognized, it was at the 10 pages of the book and it was out of left field for me. I didn’t understand how this was the conflict that was chosen for the book.
But even if we just focused on the characters themselves, it just seemed a little forced- their connection didn’t really seem to build realistically to me. Besides knowing a few facts here and there about the main characters, there really wasn’t much to them. For me, they’re just didn’t seem to be an actual connection between the two characters. I mean there are multiple points where the FMC was thinking about adding another person who she found good looking into their relationship without ever bringing it up with the MMC.
I did not enjoy the writing in this book. For me, there was just too many instances and mistakes throughout the entire book where it made it too difficult to read.
I wanted to give this book a fair shot with my whole heart and I’m still glad that I picked this up and finished. I still wanted to support a new author. It is a huge accomplishment to produce a book and put it out and for that I give her acknowledgment, but personally this book was not good. This post is just my opinion out of many others, again these are just my thoughts/ feelings.
Ash is the top notch fashion designer, a complete nerd who is socially awkward has planned to finally come out of his cocoon (which is forced by him team) with his upcoming show. But with it comes the threat to his life and his collection, which forces him to hire another bodyguard for him.
Maira Jane is new hire who is hired to not only protect but get Ash out of his shell and be comfortable in public (without embarrassing himself)
But what happens when the strict to follow her rule Mira fells for the socially awkward designer and is forced to choose between him and her job which is the only way to live known by her??
The author co considering it's her debut have done a good job and has a lot of potential to grow. The plot and story were good and would have been a hit with just a few changes.
I found Ash character a bit shady seeing that despite being socially awkward he was so comfortable in the beginning of the story with interviews and parties and later developed the anxiety for it.
Mira on the other hand was a strong character and I liked her.
The relationship of Ash and Mira with other characters were great especially with June and Mira's brother. The attraction between the MMC on the other hand was quite obvious but could have been cut short with the slow burn as started to feel dragged and repeated at certain instances.
I would like to give this author another chance and would like to pick her next one because I know she can do much much better...
For a debut novel, this one was good! The main characters were developed, and the overall storyline was easy to follow. I could see where the plot was heading, and it held my interest. That said, there were a few parts that felt underdeveloped. I found myself wishing certain plot threads had been carried throughout the book instead of showing up for a single chapter and then disappearing entirely.
Still, major props to Madison. Writing a debut is no small feat, and her vision definitely shines through. I can see the potential, and I have no doubt she’ll keep growing with each book. This was a strong start, and I’m excited to see where she goes from here.
Plot- or character-driven? Character Strong character development? It's complicated Loveable characters? Yes Diverse cast of characters? Yes Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated 3.0⭐️
I follow this author online, so I knew going into it that there were going to be some errors. Spelling and grammar is hard, and she didn't have a professional editor for this book. Otherwise, im looking forward to the next one.
Okay this was super cute! The overall story was unique and I really enjoyed the banter between characters. While there are parts that could have been edited a little better, there is sooo much potential for this story and series! I’m so excited to pick up book 2 for June’s story!
The beginning was alright, I loved the rest of the book up until the epilogue. Why isn’t grey living with Mira Jane? I was a little disappointed about it but overall enjoyed the book! 2.5/5 stars
