From review - "Oriental Vegetables" by English gardening writer Joy Larkcom is the real deal. For foodies like myself, the most important thing to know about the book is exactly what deal it is real.
I have no idea how I got hold of this book, but I found it on the bookshelves last weekend and was happily surprised with it. The book is a good guide on growing your own oriental vegetables, mostly focused on those from China and (more limitedly) Japan. We do a fair amount of Indonesian, Chinese and other South East Asian cooking at home, so it is an exciting thought to be able to grow our own bean sprouts, Chinese cabbage, choi sum, kai lan, etc. Now teach the chickens to leave the plants in peace first... It would have been nicer to have actual photos in the book, rather than the hand drawings. A book about food deserves nicer pictures.
