What a beautiful and exciting adventure!!! Byrd did an excellent job laying down mystery and intrigue at every turn. The characters grew so much over the course of this novel, while also leaving space for more journeys in future books.

The magic is unique, in that Silvia and her friends have the ability to guide people into the afterlife. So many interesting questions come from this in itself, but on top of that, Byrd creates different plotlines related to Silvia's past, future, and her destiny.

The themes are heartfelt and the relationships are enchanting. I'm excited for the next one 😊

I loved everthing about this book. The moment I started reading I couldn’t stop. The adventure the characters go on was so captivating and watching their character development at times made me giddy. Definately an easy read to help you get out of a slump!

I can’t wait to see what other journeys these characters can go on. This is the perfect ya fantasy book!

I requested an advanced review copy of this book in exchange for a review.

This debut novel by Kimberly Byrd is a solid, action-packed read. If you are into YA fantasy like Cassandra Clare and J.K. Rowling, you'll enjoy this one.

Byrd's worldbuilding is her big strength, and it's what kept me reading; I was interested in what was coming next...I DID NOT see the big cliffhanger ending coming (was expecting more of a school year wrap-up like with the Harry Potter series) sooo I'm going to need book 2 ASAP!

Characters are sensitive and well-developed, but what I'm really interested in is the potential for the main character to be both light and dark. Very much looking forward to what Byrd does next!

Just a little PSA first, I received an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. Thank you, Kimberly Byrd, for allowing me to read your book and leave a review for others!

I will be honest by saying I am not used to the point of view the book is written in (which I believe is omni-3rd person) and it did take me a good minute to get used to this POV (where you see the thoughts of all the characters). I am very used to first person, so it was a switch in my reading, but that is okay!

The story follows Silvia and quickly picks up on her adventure, so you do not have to wait to get to the action! As the story went on, the characters developed with it. There is a good amount of keeping you on your toes, heartfelt moments and wonder as you wonder what will happen next to Silvia.

Kimberly Byrd has created a world all on its own with a story I have not heard yet! I love the idea she has came up with here (without giving away spoliers). I am usually a Fantasy/Fae girlie, but this was a refreshing change. Keeping the adventure in the books I'm used to but giving a brand new world to dive into!

"Door of Keys Ascendance" is out into the world.
Being the Arc Reader of this wonderful book was just wonderful. And before I write my review down I want to thank Kimberly Byrd for giving me this opportunity to read her Amazing book.
*No Spoilers*

First as I started reading the book I expected it to be simple and boring at first then something interesting but As I read the prologue I was invested in the story. The action and the characters all synchronised perfectly to make the story easy to understand and interesting enough to keep me reading page after page.
As I read through more chapters the things got more nail biting and exciting to say it in simple terms.

What I loved the most was the Narration throughout the book, I loved how detailed the approach is and how it showed the perspective of the characters without shifting the POV'S one after another made it more effective and easy.
The ending was just sad and not in a disappointing way. The fight, the struggle, the loss and the way it ended makes me wanna know what happens next. I can't wait for the next part.

I am ready to read it again but this time after buying a physical book to enhance my Reading experience.
I will post the detailed review with spoilers maybe soon but for now I must say the book is worth giving a shot and for anyone who is into Fantasy books should give it a try and I am sure you'll love it 😃

Door of Keys is a very fun YA fantasy novel. I loved how this fantasy world fits really well into reality–this world could easily exist alongside our own. This made the world building much easier and gave more time for explaining the magic. I thought the pacing was great and I really enjoyed the plot.

My main complaint is the character development and dialogue. While some characters progressed in a very genuine way, I felt like others changed the way they acted on a dime. The dialogue also felt forced or underdeveloped at times.

All in all, I enjoyed this book, and I can’t wait to follow along the journey to read the rest of the series and how the story and author develop!

I really enjoyed this. The concept of this book is so unique, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever read. Our main character Silvia was incredible to follow and I loved getting to see him grow and develop as a character. I also adored the focus on friendship and found family, I think it brought a really wholesome aspect to the book. I also liked that the action parts of the book where all different, it kept it interesting. I was hooked from the beginning and now I really need book 2!

I have an Advanced Copy of this book and am providing my review as an unbiased party.

"Door of Keys" by Kimberly Byrd is a standout young adult fantasy novel that explores the weighty themes of legacy, power, and the thin line between life and death. The novel introduces us to an intriguing world where individuals, regardless of age but often teenagers, are summoned to a mystical school to learn the sacred art of guiding souls to the Door of Keys—an ethereal gateway to what lies beyond our mortal realm.

At the heart of this enthralling tale is Silvia, a young protagonist whose life is steeped in complexity and mystery. Daughter of the novel’s formidable antagonist—a demon with apocalyptic ambitions—Silvia grapples with her identity and destiny. Her journey is one of mastering magic and discovering her innate strength, which rivals that of her late mother, a renowned Guider whose legacy Silvia is destined to inherit.

Byrd’s narrative is beautifully woven, with each chapter delving deeper into the dark intrigue of a world where souls are the currency of power. The looming threat of worlds colliding through the malevolent plans of Silvia's father adds a gripping tension to the story, while the bonds Silvia forms at the school provide a poignant contrast, showcasing the power of friendship and trust in the darkest times.

The author’s skill in crafting a universe where the fantastic intersects with profound human emotions makes "Door of Keys" a compelling read. The detailed magical system, the complex character arcs, and the high stakes make it a must-read for fans of intricate fantasy and stories of personal triumph.

"Door of Keys" is not just a book about magic and conflict; it is a thoughtful exploration of what it means to confront one’s heritage and choose a path of light in the face of overwhelming darkness. It’s a tale that captivates and inspires, perfect for anyone who cherishes fantasy that also speaks to the trials and triumphs of the human spirit.

In Door of Keys, Kimberly Byrd has crafted a narrative rich in imagination, filled with vibrant characters, unexpected twists, and a setting that somehow feels both familiar and fairytale. I’m particularly impressed with her remarkable world-building, transporting readers to places that feel grand in scope and meticulously detailed. It is easy to immerse yourself fully in the world she’s created.

Her settings pulse with life, and it is easy to forget that you are not, in fact, walking alongside her characters as they battle demons, get into the shenanigans high school kids are prone to, and come of age before our eyes.

But where Door of Keys truly shines is in its characters, each thoughtfully constructed, especially Silvia. With past, present, and future central to her story, Silvia embraces, over the course of the story, the fearless warrior her destiny had in store.  And while we wait for the rest of the story to unfold, the characters we’re introduced to in Book 1 experience growth that feels both hard-won and deeply rewarding. It is a group worth cheering for, and I fear Byrd will break our hearts by the end. But this, of course, is a compliment to her ability to connect with readers and deliver relatable and connective characters. Byrd doesn’t just tell a story—she invites readers to join her cast on their journeys, to share in their triumphs and setbacks, to cry when they cry, and to rejoice when they secure a victory.

These characters are far from static; they evolve in organic yet surprising ways. That is no easy feat.

Above all, Door of Keys is a testament to Byrd’s creativity. Her storytelling is unpredictable and inspired, with plot twists and question marks that keep readers guessing. Byrd’s vivid imagination brings fresh energy, and this book is a must-read for anyone who relishes a fantasy that balances thrilling action with emotional depth.

Honestly, I read this book in a week because I couldn’t stop reading it. I really loved how caring Silvia’s friends/family were in her time of need and how she also helped them. I feel like Kimberly did such an incredible job in maintaining a flowing writing style and being expressive through each thought her characters were feeling during certain scenes and having enough detail for the setting in order for me to visualize it in my mind.

I developed an emotional connection with Silvia and the rest of the characters in “Door of Keys: Ascendance” and really disliked the villain, Salvatore. Once again Kimberly did a perfect job in giving each of her characters their own personalities and behaviors which made them unique/memorable.

In this book there is a total of 19 Chapters which makes the book short, but each chapter got straight to the point, and I never had the desire to skip anything because I truly felt like I was experiencing everything that occurred in the story from the heartfelt moments to the terrifying battles of Angels vs Demons. As someone who is including Demons in her own book, I really learned a lot on how to describe them and their personalities. This book helped me get more inspiration on battle scenes which is something I struggled with.

If you’re a reader that loves fantasy and have been needing a book recommendation, then this book is meant for you! The cliffhanger at the end of this book had me begging for more. My reaction to the end was, “Silvia come on don’t give in! You know what is at stake with you making that choice.” Despite that mild frustration with the ending, I’m excited for Book 2 and can’t wait to read it.

Kimberly, you did amazing on creating this story, and you should be very proud of yourself!

Door of Keys is a YA fiction adventure that paints a picture of fantasy world where Guiders, beings who help to guide souls to the afterlife, learn to control powers, grow and train to take on their special role. The main character, Silvia, goes on a journey of self-discovery, in search of both learning of her own past and her destiny. In the process, she experiences a rollercoaster of emotions as she seeks the answers she so desperately desires and learns more about who she is and her purpose. This story has a lot of traditional elements of the good vs. evil theme that emerge as Silvia’s world turns increasingly more violent and dangerous, in the quest for possession of the door of keys; however, the story keeps it interesting with some twists, and the unique world the author created. I found the novel captivating and easy to read. At times I wanted a bit more detail to further immerse into the magical world, but I think that can be a personal preference. Without spoiling anything, the ending is left a bit open and up to interpretation, so if you must have all loose ends tied up by the books ending, and the conclusion spelled out, you may be minorly frustrated by that aspect; however, I think it leaves the world open to revisiting in the future. I think fans of YA, especially in the realm of magic and fantasy, would enjoy the story and the world that the author created, regardless of age.

I received an Advanced copy of this book and am giving my honest review after finishing the story.

Byrd re-enters the YA novel space with an entry that reinvigorates the genre. DOK part homage to the novels that came before it without playing out any of the tired themes or plot points we've read before.
We have a coming off age novel with a unique MC, who has real teenage relationships with friends and family while also facing overwhelming supernatural challenges. It refreshing to pick up a book that will engage and entertain 13 and 33 year olds!
Byrd has a very clear voice and is able to use her simple and elegant prose to hook the reader right away and never let go and we're flown over the treetops, running for our very lives!
Or so it feels when reading the combat in DOK! Whereas some books have you scratching your head over who is where and fighting what, Byrd is able to guide your mind through complex fights and skirmishes, while never losing the sense of apprehension for the safety of the characters she's made you fall in love with.
If you haven't read DOK yet, do yourself a favor and do it already! Can't wait for book 2!

This book was like a warm hug.
I love the flow of the story and everything was clear and engaging. The characters are super captivating and I enjoyed discovering more about them on every page. Kimberly does an amazing job creating a compelling and detailed world and OMG can we talk about all the action?! The fighting scenes were very well done, reading them felt like watching a movie, and I am especially impressed with the descriptions of the demons! It was so cool!

One of my favorite parts was the way the mental struggle of the characters were developed. They felt really alive, as I slowly learned more and more about their flaws and real reasons behind their actions.

Overall, it was an easy and fun reading! Can’t wait for book 2!
