Dark-Hunter #23

Son of No One

Rate this book
It’s not easy being life’s own personal joke, but Josette Landry has made an unstable peace with the beast. Life will continue to throw every bad thing it has at her, and she will continue to not put her head in an oven. But that’s okay. That which doesn’t kill her will just require a few hours of mental insanity. Completely down on her luck, Josette takes a job with a local paranormal group trying to get their own cable show as a photographer and camerawoman. Yeah, they’re even crazier than she is. The only paranormal thing she believes in is the miracle that keeps her rusted out hoopty running. But when her group accidentally releases something truly evil into the world, they are forced to call in reinforcement.

From the moment Josette meets Cadegan, she knows something about him isn’t quite right. And it’s not just because she can’t even begin to pronounce his last name: Maboddimun. Mysterious and armed with lethal sarcasm, he seems a lot older than his apparent age…

Centuries ago, Cadegan sold his soul for vengeance against the betrayer who cursed him. Forced against his will to do good, he hates everything in life. All he wants is a way out. But for the damned there is only eternal suffering. And yet there is something about Josette that intrigues him as much as it irritates and frustrates him. Something he can’t seem to fight, and the last time he felt this way about a woman, it cost him his soul.

He knows he has to stay away from her, but the evil her friends unleashed is hellbent on consuming her soul. Something he cannot allow. If one more innocent is taken, he will be sent back to an unimaginable prison that makes his current hell look like paradise. But how can he keep her safe when his being with her is the greatest threat of all?

Hmmmmmmmmm Okay so I am and will always be a Dark Hunter fan girl and will read any book she puts out in the series, but....... This book was missing something! I don't know what to think Maybe the series is too long or I don't know, but it just didn't do it for me. I mean it wasn't bad or anything it was a good book, but not great.

 photo imconfused_zps7ec53edb.gif

For one thing I am so confused by all the different pantheons, mythological creatures, breeds of demons, and characters that my eyes are starting to cross! I can't keep up with all the story lines and who is badder than who and who is coming for who and it is making me start to lose my interest. Half of the time I am reading I'm like

 photo whatshappening_zpsefdda944.gif

and it has been that way for the last few books I have read in this series.
The love between Jo and Cade feels a little rushed but I don't really mind that. I thought Cade was sweet and I liked Jo, and I am a sucker for babies, but still I feel like it fell short. I don't know the whole book kinda felt rush maybe and the end didn't really feel like the end. I felt like I was left hanging and not in a cliffhanger way hmmm I am just so darn torn on this book.

2.5 stars the .5 is for the humor cos' its cracking wombats;)

“she’s the human equivalent of an extremely spoiled and pampered young adult.”

“Psst,” Simi whispered to Leucious. “The term now is ‘new adult.’

To the never ending, ever expanding world that the Author creates, I pray that she'll live long along with her fans. Well hell yes to that because certainly this series won't end anytime soon and I still want to read the other characters who needs their HEA.

Fresh from divorce and recently finding for a new job, Josette Landry got herself in a compromising position to work as camera woman for her cousin Selena to video paranormal activities happening in an old mansion. Once there she was whoop indide a mirror sending her to an alternate world where she was hunt by monstrous creatures all the while she was saved by Cadegan, who was trapped there for almost a century, all the doing of his brother Leucious. Together they'll find a way to get back to real world and fight the legions of Morgen cos you know it was set like in an Arthurian era so yeah.

The story isn't different from her previous books but I haven't given up on reading this because I want to know those interesting tidbits running from the plot, just anything to know more about my fav characters.
it's sort of an addiction, really but hey I'm a fan. And also I read on some group threads that this book is an introduction to the dragon were-hunters.

"Son of no one" is a light read compared to the last book "Styxx"
which conjured so much pain and brutally but I don't say that our hero Cadegan lived a good life (I mean the author hasn't written a hero with a good childhood so far) so he still have a fair share of painful past, he is a scarred hero nonetheless.

my problem with book was I didn't buy the chemistry of both the main characters and I know this is PNR so everyrhing happens fast like a one day love affair.

Well actually this got the same plot as the others so maybe I'm not buying it anymore, so I think the author has this mantra "if ain't broke, don't fix it" although I love the humor, Jo is a funny heroine and Cade can banter back, especially the part when they were curse and upon waking up, realizes that they exchange bodies, that was hilarious, they were touching their own self and feeling those awkward senses lol. Also the other minor characters are giving some laugh out loud moments, like Frick and Frack. Aside from that I wasn't wow on the other stuffs going on.

What added interest in the story was Thorn, he's one major character I want to figure out ever since he made his first appearance in the previous books and as much that this book is about his "brother", some secrets were revealed and I don't think it would end there.

Ash only gets a cameo, and he didn't even use his powers ugh!
And get this there's no Nick, it's like he went MIA, sure there's the Chronicles of Nick seriess but still the Nick in the DH series is way tormented than his teen self coz no one is helping him fight his inner demons or more like he don't want help, yeah he got this "woe is me" going on with himself.

I noticed that this new couples in this series got powerful babies and they will be more powerful than their parents but I wonder why they can't defeat the Malachi when that time comes that they will fight against him?

so there you have it another book to add to the collection, Its turning like a pokemon collection actually, I swear;)

OH MY GOD! Styxx just been released and another book for next year shows up

and its a new Hero that has never been introduced in the previous books.

where's my enigmatic surfer boy Savitar or Mr. taciturn bear Remi or my beautiful blonde Urian or my fallen angel Jared or the mysterious Jaden or Thorn. I need their stories so badly!
and Who is Cadegan? yep the Son of No One *figures*:P

but you see readers I still LOve it, waiting for this next book:)

here's a little catching up with our resident god killer Savitar!:(love the man ya know;))

and this is an explanation on why Sherri pick a new hero:

Since a couple of fans have spoken up after we announced the next DH book, Son of No One, and decried they are upset that I “keep writing about new characters and ignoring the old ones i.e. Savitar, Thorn, Jaden and Jared” I thought I should explain a few things.

Cadegan (Demi-god and part Adnac demon) and Josette (Human and

I am Cadegan Maboddimun... son of no one. Wanted by none. Conceived for evil intend. I entered this world alone and that it was how I was destined to stay in it. I will not ask you to sacrifice yourself for me.

Besides the fact that this is a classic story of a 'beast' and how he is tamed by a pretty, fearless, innocent at heart girl (the kind of stories I truly love); this is a really important story for the main storyline of the dark hunters. So, if you love this universe, don't miss this book!

Other than that, lots of the main characters from previous books appear. So this is a kind of reunion.

This is also a very important book for Thorn, but you don't actually realise it until the middle of the book. I am so looking forward to his book!

Illarion is also introduced and I am very impressed by him!

If you haven't read any Lords of Avalon and Hellchaser books, you may feel lost. But even if this happens, the lovestory will reward you.
And it is nice to discover tougher demons than charonte demons ;)

While I know I will read this book, because I'm a DH addict and love the series, I would much rather read about some of the earlier characters whose stories are yet to be told. I am dying to read Remi's and Savitar's story!

Cadegan and Josette win Insta-Love of the Year!!

***3 ~ Will this series Ever End Stars***

d

You are the light in my darkness lass. Without you, I have no hope, no faith. I barely exist.

Josette''s a skeptic. She doesn't believe in the paranormal. But she's in desperate need of money and has just taken a job as a camera operator. Ironically, she will be documenting paranormal activity for a bunch of witches.

Josette is sucked into a demon realm and is immediately under attack. Fortunately, Cadegan is there and he is a total badass!!

Cadegan
d

Cadegan's a demon and has been imprisoned in another realm by his brother. He has been a loyal warrior and feels betrayed by his brother. He's been alone for over 1000 years when beautiful Josette gets sucked into his hell. I believed his side of the insta love! He had been lonely for so long.

Cadegan is my kinda hero. He's sexy, with a wicked sense of humor, and he saves the damsel in distress! He then sexes her up and falls head over heals in love with her. What more could I have asked for???

Spoiler Rant begins in 3..2..1:

Overall, I enjoyed this book and it is a solid 3.5 read. However, I totally understand all of the 2 star reviews because this book should not have been titled as a Dark Hunter book. Yeah, there were cameos of characters from the series, but this was NOT a Dark Hunter book.

Um ... NOPE!

like ... What?

What I Did Not Like

First off, This genre is just NOT my usual. I honestly didn’t know what I was picking up when I grabbed this out of the bookstore bargain bin (so, that’s totally my fault). Maybe I should have read other books in this series first or ... I don't know ... something. Because this read like a companion novel but with like WAY too much story crammed inside. My point is, I was confused. I don’t know if this was a really shitty book or I just set myself up with way too little background knowledge of these characters and their world, but I did NOT enjoy this AT ALL.

This book starts off with insta-lust turned insta-love in the matter of one really disturbingly cringeworthy and weird sexual encounter. Like literally Oh hi … I'm in a demon world but let's chat about how hot you are for a moment and then lets have sex and claim our undying love!

The pacing was weird, the MC was annoying and the story as a whole was confusing as fuck!

Like I said, I literally disliked everything.

Then, there were so many plot twists I felt like I was on a merry go round of terrible plot twists… like, GET ME OFF OF THIS THING!!!

I really should have DNFed this book because it’s atrociousness is now burned into my brain and I really want those two days of reading back. Unfortunately, this was back when I thought there was honor in finishing every book I started. Meh … not anymore.

If you didn’t notice (from the million times I already said it)... I didn’t like anything about this book. So, I am going to bypass the pros and cons discussion on this one. I'm also going to lay off on the story description because synopses exist and I don't really feel like spending anymore time on this review.

In Conclusion

Just …. don’t with this.

This is a well-written, entertaining, steamy, paranormal, fantasy romance novel. It has a likable female protagonist, a wounded male protagonist, wit, a touch of humor, supportive family, action, twists and turns, and a satisfying conclusion. This novel can be read as a stand alone, but is better when read in order, because of the involved world building and the appearances of several characters from the previous novels, including the beloved Simi. I listened to the audio book, narrated by the talented Holter Graham, who has a captivating and expressive voice, and does an outstanding job depicting the characters and their personalities.

Just the fact that I've read more than 30 full length books and novellas in the Dark-Hunterverse, is enough to show how much I love this series. But all good things need to come to an end at some point. This series should have ended long ago. Not because it's not good but because it's become too much. Too many characters, too many realms, too many mythological creatures, too many different pantheons and too freaking many cultures. After a point it's all become a knot in my mind that I just choose to ignore instead of trying to solve. Names and events fly over my head and I have a hard time remembering who is friend and who is foe. I have a high respect for the author just for managing to keep her characters straight.

That being said, I will read any book Sherrilyn Kenyon decides to add to the series because some habits die hard and as much as I hate that I can't remember most of the previous books, SK manages to make each new one special enough that by the end, I don't really care. I just hope that she will give stories to the characters she already has introduced and she'll stop adding to the pile, like Savitar and Apollymi, and now Thorn. *hint hint*

Regarding this book...

I liked this book. Jo was as awesome a character as the Deveraux family always proves to be. These girls know how to do sassy and brave. Cade was a typical tortured-Kenyon male lead. Nice but not all that special anymore.

What I liked about this book was that although Cadegan had gone through some bad shit, Kenyon managed to restrain herself on the angst department. There was some drama but it was kept to sufferable levels unlike most of her previous books.

But the insta-love... That was too much, too fast. It went something like:
-Hello, my name is Cadegan.
-I am Jo.
-I'm in love with you Jo.
-I'm in love with you too, despite the fact that I am a 21st century woman who should at least learn your last name before promising undying love.
-That's okay. I am 1.300 years old and I believe in fate enough for the both of us.

But there also a lot of "laugh your ass off" moments in this book that more than made up for it's shortcomings in the romance.

A generally good book. If it wasn't for the facts that I mentioned in the beginning I would have given it a solid 4 or 4.5.

And she does it again.. Gets me all hyped up for a book that is just lacking. This one was super short and generally boring.
Jo was super ridiculous and annoying. Wombat? Just no. Please no. With in 3 chapters the girl is naked and in love. No love story. Just bright eyed and in love in a chapter.
What happened to the dark edgy books Kenyon used to write? I know I've criticized her before for being too dark, (Styxx seriously, how much abuse can you write?) but this was laughable. There was barely any drama, the characters just kept getting rescued without putting any effort into their escapes. There needs to be a balance between trials and tribulations and getting out of things easy.
At no point did I care about any of the characters. Cade's a demon, but a god, but a demon, who can't be trusted, who can be trusted! It's all absurd and not in a good way.

I don't know, I speed read things the first time I read them so maybe I'll like it better the second time. It's doubtful. I sped through it because I kept waiting for the good part, for the meat of the story. I never got it. Now I just feel left down.
My major issue? Cadegan isn't even a Dark Hunter!!! I know the ranks have been dwindling since Artemis hasn't been making new ones (except Nick) and since everyone and their mother has been getting their souls back but seriously! Ridiculous. It was a lords of Avalon book not a DH novel.

Ok where do begin? I LOVE SK but this book really fell short.

*SPOILERS*

For starters the main character Jo doesn't believe in supernatural stuff, but when she falls into a mirror she just accepts that she was wrong about all the supernatural stuff. Then she meets Cade and they have sex and are all over each other RIGHT AWAY! Despite both having trust issues etc. He immediately wants to save her and she doesn't want to leave him behind.

Then here is the worst part... they SWITCH BODIES! Wtf??? And then they have sex. So they are having sex with themselves! This was just too freaking weird for me, and the whole body switch lasted wayyyy too long! Seriously, why is no one talking about this???

There didn't really feel like an ending, and there were too many characters etc added in which made it confusing, even though I've read all her books at least a couple times!

And why do all the books have to end with the characters having a baby??? And I get that family is important to all of them, but I feel as though the whole family speech gets overdone with some of the books. This one fell short of my expectations for SK.

This is going to freaking murder me. I just finished Styxx, which if you haven't read, you should, it's awesome, and now I hear that this is coming out. Who the hell is this guy? I haven't heard of this new what's-his-name before and it's killing me; usually we have some connection to the character through some of the previous ones, but this guy comes up with nada. I might love him or hate him, and I have no idea! Which only makes the waiting worse. I want to see more of the Nick/Ash stuff. They were the best, most dysfunctional pair of friends/ enemies , and I haven't seen them together at all in recently. Ok, they met inTime Untime, but I want more! And to do with the title, how can someone be the son of no one? Life just don't work that way. Also, this mysterious time shift mentioned in Styxx, is that the one that Ambrose/Nick is creating (CON)???? I want answers!. Please!

Whoa, just finished it! Unfortunately, it wasn't what i expected. I always have preferred the more ancient civilizations when it come to the characters (read: Ash, Styxx, Kyrian ect) and I have never been sold on the ancient Welsh stuff. Sure, it's cool, but that whole area of Mythology has never been my jam, so I was a bit put off. There was also no Nick/Ambrose or Caleb, and I love them, and even though there was a bunch of Ash part to this story, I still feel like we missed out on a bunch of him. For a DH book, the plot seemed more mediocre to me (which to clear it up for you guys, is not a bad thing. It's DH, it's automatically good), but that might be because of how freaking incredible Styxx was. I really loved the connection to Thorn, he has been a kind of mystery badass for most of the series, and now some light has finally been shed on him. His connection to Noir kind of blows my mind, just a bit.

Josette Landry has some shit luck and she knows it. So she isn’t really surprised that when she takes a job as a camera woman for a paranormal group that she falls through a mirror into another realm. Her luck seems to change when she is rescued  by a sword wielding Cadegan. Little does she know that he is not all that he seems and her luck did not in fact take a turn for the better.

Cadegan has been locked away in a realm for centuries. All he has craved is a way out so that he can seek vengeance against the person that put him there. When a lady from another world enters his desolate realm he is fascinated as much as he is irritated. It doesn’t take long for the two to come together and begin to find a way out of the dark world, but both of them wonder what price they will pay for their freedom.

First I would like to say that I have been a devoted Sherrilyn Kenyon reader for years. I love her Dark Hunter series and I adore Chronicles of Nick. Having said that I am not fond of the new story arch that has been introduced and because of that, this book did not do it for me. I had a hard time keeping interest, which is saying something considering I tore through Styxx in two days. I don’t know if I am just in a funk with the writing style or the story line, but it totally fell flat for me on this one.

Jo was funny and really quirky. She seemed to take everything in stride and didn’t even blink when she landed in another world. She had some really great one liners, but it felt forced to me. Like it wasn’t natural for her. I think this has something to do with her being a part of the Deveraux family.

Cade was from another century and it showed in some ways. There was a definite language barrier, which was fun at times. I liked that he was protective and had his own secrets. However, his character didn't blow my mind like previous alpha hotties in this series. He was totally contradictory. For example, he was more than happy to have someone to hang out with and let into his home, even though time and time again he was worried about trusting people and talking about how trusting people fucked him. Yet, a hot piece falls into his lap and he’s good to go again.

The insta-love was what really got to me.

Jo and Cade had just met and she started waxing poetic about how she could love him and how he deserved his love blah blah blah. I get the falling and falling hard thing. It happens in books. But one of the most precious things to read through is how this happens and develops over the course of time. Didn’t happen here.

On a positive note, I was happy to see some of the old gang. Acheron, Simi, Styxx, Thorn, Jaden, all made an appearance. It wasn’t until the end, but they were there. It was my favorite part since they are old favorites of mine. Who doesn’t love a demon with an affinity for BBQ sauce?

Overall, I didn’t hate the book. It was fast paced, had some action, introduced a new sort of pantheon, and had some old friends in it. If you are a fan of this series give it a try. It fell flat for me, but may work for you. It won’t stop me from picking up the next one in the series though. Maybe next time it will rock my socks. One bad book does not make a bad series.

.So why doesn’t it feel like a SK’s writing style? And is SON OF NO ONE a Dark Hunter book? Hell Chaser…what the hell is that?????
 photo tumblr_mw89q9nQcX1r3cqoco1_500_zpsc0a76866.gif
The hero is not a DH, he’s some kind of demon/god trapped for thousands of years in Hell and fighting to go over to the evil side and stay a good demon!!!!!!
Then we have the heroine….she kicked her useless husband out of her life and kept the dogs…or was it cats? Can’t remember. Anyway, she’s the sane one in her family…she does not believe in magic and all that tra la la….but when she falls through a mirror into a medieval demon world…she’s like…this is cool…I am so totally at “home”!!!
She’s a bit scared though but when she meets a gorgeous man dressed in chain vests and swords, talking in a language even I found difficult to understand…she’s just gets it and works on getting him too!!! Because this is instant-love between the two!!!
 photo images1_zps42f75e2d.jpg

And Cadegan…that’s the hero’s name….he knows from the first moment
 photo images_zps322c6bf1.jpg
Jo, the heroine and her dreamboat will do anything to save each other so they can be together, FOREVER,

And where are the gorgeous Dark Hunter, the fabulous Were Hunters and Nick Gautier? Hey, nodding off somewhere

Wake up Alex, you can’t give up on a SK book!!!!

This is too confusing for me….

Just about to give up….i’m reaching the last pages by now…..when……HOORAY!!!
Acheron finally arrives. Simi too….and some werehunters and other hunters and magic women….thank you SK…..those not enough pages with them, even Artemis, who just by the way, was nice and likeable…I kid you not!!! That was what made this book an OK read instead of not ok one!!!
And just when I thought…oh so nice…Cadegan & jo get their HEA…and everyone is so cool and fab…we get an epilogue that just made no sense to me….. so, if you want to know what this book was all about …………

There are many thoughts going through my head about this book. First, I think that maybe SK wanted to give us something lighter after the heart-crushing tale of Styxx, and she succeeded in that. This book is mostly fun with lots of witty banter that these books are famous for. In one part of the story, the male and female do a "Freaky Friday" and end up in each other's body.

It was like a vicious cruel mirror that pointed out every single flaw, from every single angle. "I am so going on a diet when I get back in my body. And you better watch what you eat, bucko, while you're in there..."
She moved to scratch an itch on her thigh and cringed as she brushed her hand through the hair there, and especially the hair under his arms. "Oh my God, I need a bush hog, in the worst way! Some serious manscaping needs to be done to this body. How do you stand being so hairy? It's everywhere....It's like having fleas."

Yeah, I can't imagine being stuck in my husband's hairy body. I would shave the hell out of that thing! Clogging up the shower is a small price to pay to stop looking like a Sasquatch.

No, I said I want you to manscape. If you would shave the hair out of your ears you would hear me better!

The second thing about this book is that it wins the award for the fastest case of insta-love that I have ever read. And, like all of us here, I have read a LOT of insta-love in my day. These two are proclaiming undying love in less than 24 hours of meeting.

Who are they, you ask? Well, I guess I should have mentioned that earlier in my review, but what can I say? I'm forgetful. So, the girl is a cousin of Salena Laurens and Tabitha (Stabby Tabby) and the other crazy-chick-family sisters. So, they are involved in the story a bit. Josette is divorced and very down on her luck so she takes a job as a photographer for one of the cousin's ghost-hunter friends. On her first day she gets sucked into a mirror where she winds up in a hell-realm. There she meets Cadogan, a guy who saves her life, and yet is not human. Does this bother her? No, she'll sleep with him anyway. What the hell... he looks like the guy from Arrow.

Human shmuman... let's go baby!

So, the goal is to rescue Jo and Cadogan from the hell realm. Ash, Styxx, Talon, Fang, and Thorn get involved, and we learn a big secret about Thorn. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Hell-Chasers storyline and don't really care about Thorn's crap, but whatever... I'm sure I'll read whatever SK chooses to write for the rest of her life.

All in all, the book is very entertaining and light. It doesn't make giant waves in the Dark Hunter world, but it's still fun enough to read if you like the series.

What the fuck happened. It seems like shit just got real.

I think that Jo and Cade fell in love too quickly. Like, too quickly it didn't feel real to me, their story was too rush.

The story was great but I felt a little lost, because it's been a while since I read any of the books of the DH or a hellchaser story, and I felt disconected to the 'main' story AND characters.
I'm glad that before I read this one, I re-read Styxx.

Overall, it was okay.

Cadegan is Thorn's right hand!! So that means we're going to have more of Thorn<3

Reto 2018 Un Best Seller
PopSugar Reading Challenge 2018 27.- Un libro ambientado en otro planeta

I´M COME BACK BITCHES

I really liked this edition in the series. There was a very different feel from past books in the series. Demons, shadow world, dragons and various nasties. The fight was more of the heart than brute force. Her books usually center around trust, and trust was the basic issue once again, but it was twisted it a new way. I loved the inside look at the opposite sex. Fantastic, we should all get that chance to explore the other side. It would solve so many relationship problems.
What can I tell you about the book ? Not much, you should be surprised as much as possible. If you read the series don't miss it. It had a semi HEA and a lead into the world of dragons where you are crunchy and go well with brie. LOL

PD. Styxx te quiero!!

I seriously debated with myself about whether to read this book. I hated Styxx with the fiery passion of a thousand suns, and honestly, the Dark Hunter series has been losing me for awhile. I have had an increasingly difficult time following all the threads of the larger story arc since Acheron. I thought I might be ok when we started to learn about the Hellchasers, but then we moved on to the Native American lore and with some of the Greek and Atlantean stuff still in there, I just can’t keep up.

All of that aside, I really loved the early books in the series. I had to give it one more chance, even though I had never even heard of the hero or heroine. I’m glad I did.

Even though I didn’t recognize the core couple by name, I did recognize their family connections. Josette is a cousin to the clan of Devereaux women. She’s tight with Selena, Tabitha, Amanda and the gang, but she is cynical about the supernatural. Obviously, that is about to change. Cadegan, meanwhile, is related to Thorn and has spent the past thousand years in a hell dimension, courtesy of the Hellchaser himself. The couple meets when Jo accidentally falls through a mirror that serves as a portal to his prison.

Cadegan is the quintessential Kenyon hero. No one has ever loved him. Everyone he ever trusted has betrayed him. He lives a life of misery in a gray world… until Jo enters the picture. The two of them connect right away. It’s total insta-love. Like in a day. But I was so caught up in the angsty tortured hero stuff, I didn’t really care. She brought color and kindness into his world. She made him feel hope again. She looked at him (*wait for it*) … LIKE HE MATTERED. –That’s how you know you are reading a Kenyon book, y’all.

Anyway, Cadegan makes it his mission to get Jo back home and he goes to great lengths to do it. There are bumps along the way. Ash, Styxx, Thorn and others enter the picture. There’s a dragon and some Fae and, somehow, some King Arthur stuff thrown in the mix. Somehow, it’s all tied in with Noir and the Malachai and even though I have read every book in this series –some multiple times– I couldn’t connect all the dots if my life depended on it. So I stopped trying and wallowed in the romance.

The relationship progression is classic Kenyon. I’ve read it in dozens of her books, but it still works. At least it does when the hero hasn’t been raped a thousand times or sent to an island alone for 11-thousand years. And in this case, we didn’t enter that territory so I was good with it.

It was a very fast read. It was a fair number of pages but the font was big and the margins were huge so I’d be curious to hear the word count. Overall, though, I think Dark Hunter fans will like it. I just wish Kenyon would have a primer somewhere so I could refresh my memory on the connections between all players, like Jared, Jaden, Noir, Thorn, Nick and the significance of the Sephiroth, the Malachai and.. just everything. Is it just me?

If you are a fan of this series then this book will be a must read but for this reader it was a slight dissapointment. There's no doubt this author has a fabulous imagination and a way with words that truly mesmerises but her complicated world building and numerous characters ( not to mention pantheons and realms) can at times be a little tricky to follow. That being said yet again Ms Kenyon delivers a story pulsating with danger but quintessentially this is a story of love and redemption.
Josete is cousin to the Deveroux family who have previously featured in this series but unlike her kin she strictly refuses to acknowledge the possibility of the paranormal and deities. A fall through a magic mirror completely changes her mind as she stumbles upon an ancient welsh warrior trapped in a hell like realm ! Cadegan has never truly known love and the betrayal by those closest to him is something he can never forget . When the strange talking Josete arrives in his world he is beyond confused by her and yet determined to protect her . Cadegan is truly a knight of old and even though he wants nothing more than to keep Josete will do all he can to help her find her way home.
Yet again this author brings us a truly tortured hero but happily she pairs him with a heroine who just seems to bound about like an overexcited puppy! Josete never seems fazed or nonplussed and her openess and acceptance of Cadegan enables him to believe in love. Now the instant romance doesn't work for me but at least there was no instant declaration of love or anything no, just two people enjoying each other's company not to mention bodies! Much as I loved Cadegans old fashioned attitude and manner of speaking I really did not enjoy reading just how eager he seemed to be to trade his life away constantly for Josette. They have only just met and yet he will do anything to return her to her own world and honestly after surviving for centuries you would think he would be a little less hasty !
So overall I did enjoy this but it's not my personal favourite. I loved the first few books and it was fabulous to see those characters in this story. If you like Acheron, Styxx, Kyrian ( my personal favourite!) Talon, Thorn, Jaden and of course the irrepressible Simi you will be overjoyed with this instalment. Speaking of Thorn it's very annoying at times as both his original name and the one we are used to are in play. This series seems to be taking a turn though as Merlin is mentioned in this book and fans of the author might remember her Avalon series and it seems likely that she is now tying the two series together . My biggest gripe though is the length because it's a large font with very little on each individual page which meant at the end I found myself confronted with an extract from another upcoming book. Still I will get the next book because thus author truly is awesome and I'm always hoping the Dark Hunter books will return to their roots .

Dark Hunter has to be on my top 5 ever, and I even plan to do a tattoo paying hommage to it, but love aside, I think the series has lost the edge somewhat. Before Ash's book there was this kind of waiting like crazy for his story, something to look forward too and the plot line wasn't so dificult. Now there's just about every kind of mithycal being in there and I feel like making a chart every time I read a new book. All in all, Son of No One is your typical (and I mean REAL typical) DH book. Tortured hero, crazy family and a girl who will save him. This book felt like a plataform for something new. And c'mon I can't wrap my head around the malachai, chthonian and the likes, and there are dragons now? Cadegan and Jo's story was really sweet. I don't buy the insta-love, not here not anywhere, not ever. Relationships need to grow and delevop IMHO. If not for myy beloved DH characters, I'd tought this was just some random not-that-great PNR. I do Love Miss SK, but I think it's time to regroup on the serial plotting and books ahead.

The insta love completely threw me off. I just can't deal with it. Everything built on that seems rushed, forced and fake.
What I did like about this book was seeing all our old characters! From Acheron to Tabitha, Grace, Amanda, Talon, etc. Seeing them together with kids and happy made me smile and tears threatened to fall. That made it worth I!

Series: Dark-Hunter #24, Lords of Avalon #3, Dark-Hunter: Hellchaser #5, Dark-Hunter: Were-Hunter #8, The Entire Dark-Hunterverse #30, Dark-Hunterverse #25.

Josette Landry aka Jo is an anomaly in her strange family. She is the normal one who doesn't believe in all that weird paranormal stuff. Unfortunately, she is down on her luck and forced to take a photographer job with a paranormal group. But she ends up falling into a mirror and finds herself in a strange and creepy world. Thankfully, Cadegan is there to save her. Cadegan was born of a mother who didn't want him and a demon father. After being betrayed by his brother he is stuck in a hellish realm. When Jo arrives he feels it is his duty to protect the innocent and seeks to return her to her world.

Sherrilyn Kenyon's books have certain elements that run through just about every book I've read of hers. The tortured hero, of course, and a love that conquers all. Places and characters vary but the basic story is the same. I should be tired of the same-old-same-old but it works for me and I love it. It's funny how I started out not liking this series but now I can't seem to get enough.

I can't believe I'm giving a Sherrilyn Kenyon book 3 stars ... But this book was a struggle to get through. The "Insta-love" that was so unbelievable and literally was "I have never met anyone who understands me" "I have never loved anyone like this" ... Really, you just met like 5 min ago, I will always LOVE SK, but this book just didn't flow well and if I was someone who had never read a Dark Hunter book before I would be sooooooo confused with this one, Heck I have read all 30+ of the previous books and I was still confused!!

Upon re-read I had much less issues with the characters and the heroine did not bother me. I would say the MCs are among my favorite couples in the series and I cannot wait to learn more about Thorn!

Previous comments:

I enjoyed this book, even though it confused the hell out of me.

I loved Cade, but the heroine verged on annoying a lot of the time. However, Josette really came through for Cade and ended up kicking ass.

This was a bit quicker to read and had lots of action. But there were so many new characters/storylines that I had to work to keep everyone straight.

I don't quite know what to say about this one. I don't want to sound negative, but at the same time I feel I need to be honest.

I've been a fan of Sherrilyn's work from the very start; her Dark Hunter Series is one of my all-time favorites. However, when it comes to Son of No One, I felt as if I was reading a book written by someone else (at least in part).

On top of that, there were shockingly careless editing errors (missing periods, mis-spelled words) and, no matter how hard I tried to look for it, I didn't pick up the "classic" SLK "tone" that underlies all of her work. It was simply missing. Non-existant. I felt as if I was reading a novel written by a ghost writer and worse, re-reading the same thing over and over - it's one thing to repeat something, assuring the reader of the impact you want to make, but this was nothing but...filler.

Not to be repetitive myself, but I have to emphasize this because it is so unlike SLK - The writing was, at times, so repetitive I started to get angry. We all know how (he) feels about himself and that (he) has trust issues, thank you. There were times I felt as if I was reading someone else's work and the story actually *gasp* lagged, which I've never once said about a SLK Novel. Never.

Then we get to the specifics of the story - The "instant love" got me above all. Who, In their right mind, drops into a hellish environment, having been ignorant of it to begin with, meets a tortured demi-God and falls in love? BAM! Nope. Where's the meat of the story? The character-building, the escalating storyline? It all felt absent in this book - as evidence by the space-filler I discussed earlier.

And this may seem a minuscule concern, but, especially considering the next DH Novel (dragon character), I have to bring it up... Who the heck made the final design decision on this cover? This is not to say that it wasn't beautiful, because like all SLK Novels, the cover was beautifully designed, but a dragon? Seriously? I felt as if the cover had been designed for the NEXT DH Novel and they decided to slap it on this one. In this Novel, the dragon only made a BRIEF appearance. Usually, her covers are completely in-sync with the context of the story; this cover had me thinking one thing, yet reading an all together different one.

As if I wasn't aggravated enough by all of this, there was something that topped it all; there is NOTHING I dislike more than a publisher who attempts to make a book APPEAR longer than it is in actuality, by shrinking margins (disgustingly so) and upping the font to "If I were half-blind I could read it" status. Heck, I wear glasses and the font was so large, I had to remove them to read it!

Take the issues with the (filler) story, careless editing errors, a cover that confused the hell out of me and then add in the almost 3" margins with 18pt font and I was one unhappy camper!

Readers are not dumb - if you write a (shorter) story, then advertise it as such. Don't shrink down the margins and increase the font simply to keep the page count up, and therefor the selling price. It just pisses readers off, as it did me.

When I pick up a thick book, I expect (especially with SLK) to have hours of quality reading ahead, making it more than worth the money. As per her normal, I expected this with Son of No One - only to be left feeling cheated in the end.

In summary, taken as a whole, I was extremely disappointed in Son of No One. When I received the book I was giddy with anticipation; hours later, I slammed it shut in frustration.

Sadly, this is the FIRST SLK Novel that will NOT make it on my favorites shelf. Here's to hoping that the next Dark Hunter Novel will be back on track with what we have all come to expect from Sherrilyn Kenyon!

SON OF NO ONE is probably my least favorite of all the Dark Hunter/Hellchaser/Lords of Avalon books. Which makes me sad because I was really looking forward to it since it was supposed to tie in Kenyon's Lords of Avalon books (written as Kinley MacGregor) to her Dark Hunter world via the Hellchasers. And it does tie the series together...but unless you're familiar with all three series you're going to wonder just where the heck all of this came from.

I think the main downfall of the book is the brevity. Since it's just over 200 pages there's not a lot of time to devote to the backstory that would have helped tie the worlds together. This compact length also lends itself to insta-love between the main characters *gah*. AND a couple instances of insta-rescue...times when both the hero and the heroine suddenly appear (with help from allies) to save the other without much planning or explanation of how they found the other *double gah*. Even the cameos from favorite series characters seemed way to short.

BUT Sherrilyn Kenyon's humor always comes shining through...loved the wombat references and the smart-ass gryphons! Plus she's a master at weaving small clues to future events and familial connections which will have impact to the overall story arc and I always challenge myself to try and pick those little Easter eggs out. All of which is what saved me from being completely disappointed.

SON OF NO ONE also provides the set up for something I've been looking forward to...the rise of the dragons with DRAGONBANE (Aug 2015). I've always been intrigued by reclusive dragon Katagaria, Maxis, and we'll soon have his story. I'm crossing my fingers that it will be at least a little longer and more satisfying than SON OF NO ONE.
