Marked Under the Chained Moon

Rate this book
I woke up covered in blood with my dead alpha by my side.

My trial was swift. The judge sentenced me to life in prison without the possibility of parole in the hellish nightmare known as Wunderland Penitentiary. An island prison city for the supernatural.

With my family banished from the pack and no way to prove my innocence, I lost all hope.

Until a deal is struck to prove my innocence. All I have to do is get close to the most dangerous inmate here.

His name is Killian, the former heir of the Moon Strider pack and the one chosen to be my mate before he rejected me.

He’s a half-wolf, half-vampire, and cursed since the day he was born. But if I’m to be free and clear my family’s name, then my mission is

Get close to Killian, the cursed one, and kill him.

Under the Chained Moon is a rejected mate wolf-shifter romance. The setting is a ruthless prison so the themes are dark but there will be a light at the end of the tunnel and an HEA you won't forget!

This story contains Mpreg at the end.

DNF @ 20%

There's just something about the writing that's lacking. I can't put my finger on it but I'll try. The characters are one dimensional, no depth, it feels like I'm ONLY reading a story, no immersion, I could care less.

The plot started strong and then dissolves into mist. I just couldn't get into it. I won't be trying another book by Black again.

I wanted to love it. It had some really great parts, but overall it just was greatly lacking. There was too much detail where there didn't need to be and there was not enough detail where it should have been. They supposedly met before, but I still didn't feel chemistry.

And Killian, who is supposed to be this oober alpha easily crumbled with "okay" or "you're right" and accepted something not what he originally wanted to do. Also, is Ryker just the dumbest wolf ever with no instincts?

The ending was WAY too fast. They built up the story to this epic fight scene and it was "I spun around and sliced, covering myself in blood" dead. What?

It could also use another round of edits because I got lost a few times with the awkward time jumps or not knowing who was talking.

What I like is the world building. This was set up to be a really cool standalone series with the dragons and berserkers all on the island.

I really like the idea of the book . I loved both of the main characters, even though I did find the Omega frustrating at times since everything happened was his doing by being so naïve and not including his alpha and his ideas or plans.
However, there was a lot of parts that was just too much detail and things we just didn’t need to know or help the story at all.
There’s definitely should’ve been a trigger warning in the beginning because this book talks a lot about SA to the one of the main characters and to a lot of other characters in this book. It doesn’t go into to much detail about the SA, but it is heavily! implied.

Overall, for me, it is a three star on this book because there were some really good parts and I love the ideal of this book as well as the main characters.

The over all story was an interesting take on the ABO Shifter worldbuilding but I wouldn't call the book perfect. The action and twists and turns kept me from DNFing but the characters are missing a lot of the depth you get from other Morrigan Black stories. What is missing the most from this book is a content warning for the overwhelming amount of SA multiple characters are subjected to. While none of the incidents are truly graphic the sheer volume of times it is referenced even if its off page or FtB is staggering.

DNF at page 200.
I did not see any chemistry between the two M.C. Ryker just keeps making bad moves and he was just getting on my nerves.
I liked the concept and sort of world building but not enough to finish this book.
