Carter #2

Leah (Carter Vol. 2)

Rate this book

“Leah” is the second and final book in R.J. Lewis's series entitled “Carter” and like the previous book it was fast paced, angsty and…gave me a headache. Oh, yeah!

“Love was overrated. It wasn’t real in the way I thought it was...”

At the end of book1, Carter left Leah deciding to persuade a music career. Leah decided they are better without each other, choosing to stay and finish school. Since Carter left she tried to get her mind off him, to forget what they lived together and also how much he meant for her so many years.

“He was the kind of man you fantasized about as you lay awake at night. Rebellious, wild, sexually masterful; he was someone you snuck out the window and ran away with.”

We get to see how Carter finally gets his head out of his a** and realizes that he actually can love Leah like she wants and deserves. But Leah is done with love. She doesn’t want him anymore, or she does, but she’s terrified of commitment. On top of that, she never forget all the carnage he caused her.

“I saw things for the first time. I wasn’t in a love-sick daze. I was a realist, learning very early on that love didn’t exist the way I thought it did. I had deluded myself into believing in a fairy-tale romance.”

OMG!! This one has to be one of the most frustrating read I have read in a while. Leah was stubborn as a mule and honestly there were more times than I can count when I wanted to smack her across her pretty face. Ugh!! She angered me so much because she wasted so many years with Carter. Carter was pretty great in this second installment, but let’s not forget he was as stupid as Leah was here. He was as sweet and caring as ever and I have to say I enjoyed his “new side”. He definitely changed. He was more open about his childhood and also about his feelings. I didn’t totally hate Leah. I still enjoyed some things about her. For example her need to be independent and find her own way.

“There was something powerful at work between us. This connection that sizzled without touch; that grabbed at my being and tethered me to his. It made me cloudy and aroused.”

Once again the connection between these two was well done and so palpable. I liked them together very much. They were clearly meant to be together and I’m glad that after so many years they grow up enough and realized that they will never move on separately. Hallelujah!

Overall, a great enjoyable read!

I have to be honest here, I didn't love it as much as I did Carter. But overall, I loved Leah and Carter's story so much that I can't give this book lower rating. Writing was great, sex scenes hot, angst made my heart beat faster and epilogue was sweet and perfect. I just wish they didn't waste so many years being apart.

At the end of Carter, Carter left to make music career while Leah stayed behind to finish school and live ordinary life. Few years later they meet and Carter finally comes to his senses.

"It didn't take me long to realize how much I'd fucked up. Losing you woke me up, and... I've been so fucking lonely, Leah. It's been a bad kind of lonely. I miss you. I miss us. I want more."

Better late than never, huh?

But Leah has been burnt, she put this wall around her heart and is in no hurry to take it down. She is scared that if she gives in, it will be all over again so she pushes him away.

"You told me you loved me once.
I know I told you that.
I was your whole world.
You were, Carter.
And now?
And now I'm a grown woman who doesn't believe in fairy tales."

I was frustrated with her, sure, but I also understood her. At some point though, I wanted to kick her to give in already.

I didn't like that it took tragedy to finally admit that she can't live her life without Carter in it and that those 5 years apart were wasted. But funny because though they weren't in relationship almost the whole book, they were together almost whole book, I know, confusing, but I can't explain more without spoiling.

Anyway, I enjoyed their love story very much and recommend for all angst junkies!

And now, I really really want Rome and Melanie's story. So... R.J. Lewis....

This is the second and final book of this series. *Please note that you must read book one before going into this one.* Leah had decided to let Carter go with his band to chase stardom while she completes her education and nurses her wounds that Carter inflicted by not being able to give her more. Years go by and yeah this time around Leah is the one dragging her feet. The story starts with a present day disaster and then we are taken back to all of Carter’s attempts to fix his prior mistakes.

”Losing you woke me up, and … I’ve been so fucking lonely, Leah. It’s been a bad kind of lonely. I miss you. I miss us.” With another shuddering breath, he neared me again as he said, “I want more.”

description

Carter was wonderful putting himself out there when these two see one another after years apart…

”I’m here because I want to be! I don’t need you the way I did before, Leah. I want you, desperately.”

description

Sadly, Leah is the one guarding her heart and so although there are many great scenes like them seeing one another after years a part, time spent at their creek and so on Leah drags her STUBBORN feet and so it takes almost losing Carter forever to finally wake her up and I got old and tired of waiting on her.

description

”I was your whole world,”
“You were, Carter.”

“And now?” I exhaled slowly. “And now I’m a grown woman who doesn’t believe in fairy tales.”

Overall, this conclusion was a fast read that was entertaining although lacked in the ending and frankly Leah took too damn long to forgive. I would recommend the author give them a quick novella or something because the story ended a bit too quickly for my tastes.

”Time apart is time wasted.”

The story starts off with a really scary and intense prologue concerning Carter and as if that wasn't intense enough, we know they didn't really leave things off in a good spot.

The first chapter begins in the present with us realizing that it's been six years since they've been together! WTH?! To help explain things, the story then takes us back three years to when her and Melanie, who is now her roommate, went to the guys' concert and updating us on Leah's feelings. Later, she goes to Rome's parents house for their anniversary and unexpectedly, both Rome and Carter are there...with their girlfriends. Things are awkward to say the least.

One of the better things about this book is we get a lot of Carter's POV which made me sooo happy. I really needed to find out what Carter was thinking and feeling.

description

Carter and Leah can't stay away from each other and they eventually give in but Carter and the band are very popular and things just don't stay private. Leah gets pushed into that crazy life and doesn't want it. She does see Carter one more time but that's it...until what happens in the prologue.

I loved all the angsty goodness...and this one packs quite a punch. It was ironic how they changed places but I think they both needed it to happen. And I was really proud of Carter for giving Leah the time she needed.

The prologue "event" changes everything and I loved how the book wrapped up...sooo sweet.

I looked everywhere for anything on a Rome and Melanie story. I didn't find anything but I sure hope the author writes one!

***4,5 "He's your soulmate" stars***

Oh, my God!!! Such stubborness!!!

I wanna kick some ashes and especially, Leah's!!!
Why sweetheart hurt my lovely Carter so much???
Why you insisted that between you two couldn't be something more??? Why???

I know that you've been hurt before but he was down on his knees, baby and he was given you his heart on a platter!!!
And what you did??? You stepped upon her and crushed him!!!
Oh, God!! I can not believe what i've been through for once again!!!

Not one, not two... but five whole years have passed since the day that Carter left Leah behind and chased his dreams!!! And he suceeded!!! His name is a big one!!! He is one of the most famous singer in the world...

The book started with an airplane's crush and much pain and regret from Leah...
If Carter is not still alive, what she will do???
How she could be able to continue living???
Why he let him go two years ago when he saw him for the first time after three years????

Three years before...
Leah and Carter met again after so much time apart...
It seems that they move forward with their lives, but as much as they tried they never manage to get each other out of their systems...

After a while that Carter left, he came to his senses and he realised that the most important thing in his life was Leah... He tried to communicate with her but she never returned his calls... So he send her some letters, but she never answered them...

After that he left her alone, since everybody around him insisted to do exactly that, to leave her alone to get through the pain that caused her...

Leah from the other side tried to stay away from him and to keep him far away from her mind, but the truth was that she never manage to do that. She was trying to move forward and she did a good job to that but always something was missing!!!

"Carter took my heart with him and it would be a very, very long time before another one grew back"

So one day unexpectadly Leah and Carter meet each other again and they spend together two days... In the beginning, the air around them is tense and awkard, but then they realised how much they missed each other...

Carter catch this opportunity to persuade Leah that they are meant to be together and he declares his true feelings for her... He was miserable without her and he beg her to be with him again for real this time...

Leah feels exactly the same but in a twisted way she'd turned to be like Carter in the first book... She's afraid to give him a second chance because she can get through this pain all over again...

So what will happen next???
Will Carter manage to persuade her???
Will Leah pen her heart to him for once again???
She will have the chance to not regret for all this wasting time between them???

I really liked that book and i think that i liked it even more than the first...

I liked that i saw a different side of Carter...
I liked that he let himself to embrace the love that he had always in his heart for Leah...
I liked that i saw his life as a kid and i want to say that i had faulse impression for the relation that he had with his father and that i finally understood why his was afraid so much of love...
The only think that i didn't like was that Leah insisted so much to be away from him...
I understand why she did it, but still...

Because of her they wasted so much time apart!!!

I love your stories R.J.
They are so wonderfull and unique...
Thank you very much!!!

3.5 Angst Filled Stars!

I thought I liked Angst. I mean, I really liked Carter, it had great chemistry and mild tension, so I was really pumped going into Leah. But after reading Leah, I’m just so burned out. It was filled with tension. Too much for me.

The book starts with the ending. Yup, you know my thoughts on that. So I start the book knowing it’s five years later and they are still not together.

Okay I’m keeping an open mind.

But while I am keeping an open mind, the back of my mind is saying, everything I am reading now (the five years leading to the break-up) will result into nothing because they will not be together, because the author let me know this already.

So Leah and Carter are in pain. Leah loves Carter, she tortures herself by watching him on Youtube, she even goes to one of his concert and stalks him on-line. It’s really sad… like really sad. I wanted her to stop. Carter is a mess. He doesn’t do relationships and to my surprise he doesn’t sleep around BUT he’s still rich, famous and living the life. That’s hard to stomach too. Even though he’s in pain as well.

So when they finally meet up, you would think Leah would be like, oh my god, it’s you Carter. Oh no, she doesn’t. I don’t get Leah in this book, okay I do get her, but I was really really really really annoyed by her. I wanted to slap her in the face and be like…. Why do you stalk him if you are going to act this silly when he’s right in front of you.

I think what really killed it for me was when Carter wrote her letters and she NEVER READ them. ARE YOU SERIOUS?! I couldn’t take the tension. I couldn’t take the angst. It was too much.

The ending was too quick and I was highly disappointed. I was thinking there would be another book because I thought to myself, there’s no way the author was going to wrap it up that quickly.

Again, I really enjoyed Carter. I enjoyed the duet, I am just a little distraught on this one. My heart can only handle so much drama.

5 Stars!
I loved this one just as much as the first one.

Carter and Leah say goodbye in the first book. Carter off to kickstart is music career and Leah stays behind to start school.
Three years later Carter is in town and him and Leah see each other at a dinner. I loved how even though it had been three years you could just tell that they were still in love. These two had amazing chemistry and their feelings were so strong for each other. They spend two days together and then something happens that throws Leah in a head spin.
In the last book Carter had issues with commitment. He hurt Leah really bad. Leah pretty much built up a wall around her heart after he left.
Now that Carter has come to realize he was a fool for letting her go Leah is scared and pushes him away.

Leah had become what I was. She was too haunted by all the hurt I had inflicted on her, and, as a result, I was living with the consequences.~Carter

My faith had depleted itself, and it was interesting what happens when you stop hoping for things. Your skin thickens as you learn to adapt, and nothing hurts like it once did before. ~Leah

I wanted to grow old, sharing memories with someone that knew me before I got famous. Someone that didn’t look at me like I was a fucking god. Someone that made me feel like what we had was real.~Carter

Was I frustrated with Leah?? Hell yes! Did I understand why? Hell yes! Shit! These two wasted almost 5 years apart!

Do they get their HEA? You will have to read to find out. I will say I loved the epilogue:))

Hope we get more of the other band mates! Can't wait!

It starts in present tense... then it goes back 2 years for the WHOLE TIME THEY WERE NOT TOGETHER. should have just kept it as one book-and wrote the ONE HALF of a chapter they finally get together.

This book was totally unnecessary.

I enjoyed the first book, but it could've been a standalone.

A huge chunk of this book goes back in time: the two years Leah and Carter were apart! They're both miserable, and there's some more push and pull between them with some sex scenes thrown in for kicks.

It was nice, but....really unnecessary. And the angst was just over-the-top. Leah was a Mary Sue and no matter how much she tried to "deny" Carter, well, I'm sure we all know the story.

Same old.

I really shouldn't have wasted my time with this. Unless you were crazy in love with the first book, I doubt you'll like this very much.

It's pretty much a recycled plot (with a much more frustrating Leah).

5+++ "HAPPILY EVER AFTER" STARS

Regret is a BITCH!!!

I am blown away. This series is beyond amazing. I loved this bittersweet ending of Leah and Carter's story. They both had such a hard time finally getting to the place where they were meant to be from the beginning. Their struggle, time apart and heartache intensified the bond between them. Their separation cured Carter of taking what he had with Leah for granted,EVER.

Leah said goodbye to Carter almost 3 years ago when they went their separate ways. Leah is living her life like she always wanted to. But the only important thing missing was CARTER. She has struggled a lot to get over him and move on but is still not ready to love someone else like she did Carter. Leah is scared of LOVE hurting her ever again.
Carter is a famous celebrity now. He is a rock god and girls go crazy when he starts singing. He has fame and money but he is painfully alone. After leaving Leah, he finally realizes his overwhelming love for her and that he was too chicken shit to tell Leah that he loves her. He has been pining for Leah nonstop. Carter WANTS Leah in life more than he needs her. He is ready to make amends. So when he is in town for a surprise visit their paths crosses again.
Leah's old buried emotions rises like phoenix from the ashes. After pining for the one boy her entire life, Leah is too scared to believe that what she has always wanted is now within her grasp. How Leah and Carter navigate through their feelings for each other and move on towards their HEA is what makes up the conclusion of this amazing love story.

The characters of Leah and Carter has matured so much after their separation. What they had was a love like no other but both were too young to grasp its significance. Leah has grown up and now she can take over the world on her own without being dependent on anyone. She is her own person now and not some helpless kid whose life revolves around one guy. Whereas, Carter finally works through his fear of love and goes after his soulmate. He gives his 100% to make amends for his whale sized mistakes.

The story was not unnecessary dragged at all. Leah and Carter's reconciliation was realistic and very very well written. At the end of the first book i was dying to see Carter begging for Leah to take him back but what actually happens in this book was far more powerful than begging and grovelling. They understood their feelings for each other and not act without considering the consequences. Leah's hurt is too big and an apology and 4 letters is not enough to make it go away. So though it was killing her to turn away Carter like she was turned away before, Leah did what she thought was best for her to survive more heartache. She is terrified of her heart breaking again.

"Don’t be like I used to be. Don’t be a coward, Leah. You’re better than that."

The ending was essentially perfect. It takes time for Leah to realize that her love for Carter is never going away but it just made their union all the more solid. Their 5 years apart was the best thing that could have happened to them to secure their future/love forever.

I am in love with both Carter and Leah and these characters are going to stay with me for a very long time. This read is very real and an amazing conclusion to Leah and Carter's story. A little bit more about their future in the epilogue would have been welcome (i just didn't wanted this story to end!!!). After everything they both go through i wanted to see them happy and in love a little more than the one page. I know i am whining but what can i say i did not want it to get over. This series has been one of my favorite reads of this year.

"Mom’s death may have killed me at one point, but it paved a life to my soulmate, and to true happiness.
I was alive again."

I was pretty disappointed in this book. I felt like the book just recycled the story-line from the first book and didn't really develop until near the very end of the book.

I wished instead of focusing on the past it should have stayed with the present, as it all felt very rushed at the end, like after two years separated a near death experience allows them to live happily ever after. I don't think any of the issues where ever resolved in this book just brushed aside in the epilogue which was very disappointing for me.

Good thing this book wasn't long as a good chunk of it was used up by the time they were apart. I LOVED how Carter came to his realizations on his own, how being with Leah made completely meaningless hook ups impossible for him. I understood Leah's resistance to getting together with Carter again but it didn't make it any easier for me to bear.

I didn't dislike the book, its just that the ending was too abrupt and the thing that happened just before the ending was over the top for me hence the rating.

Leah was a wonderful yet heartbreaking follow up to Carter. I loved this book and couldn't put it down because I had to know what would happen. Although I was sadden by the fact that so many years passed that they weren't together, I understand that it was necessary for them to grow as individuals. Even though neither fully ever moved on because they both knew nobody would compare. I can't believe how stubborn Leah was and how she was able to keep her distance from Carter. I really didn't know she had it in her especially where he was concerned. Now Carter stole my heart, he tried so hard and all I kept thinking was don't give up she'll be back. I wish it didn't take a tragedy to bring them back together but that's what unfortunately it took for Leah to move on. If I had one complaint I wish the ending wasn't so rushed because I needed more but overall an awesome story.

That cover is beautiful!!
Cannot wait for this one, book 1 was amazing!!

5/12/15

Amazing fucking ending to an amazing story. I absolutely loved Carter and Leah, they strugglEd to finally trust each other, to fully give into there love for each other but in the end they couldn't hide from there feelings.

Leah tried so hard to be strong to fight her love for carter because she was terrified to get hurt by him again, and when he comes back 3 years later he's not the same guy as when he left, he knows he fucked up and he only wants a chance with Leah, there he annoyed me thinking that Leah would just say 'o yes u broke my heart killed my soul but ur back and u changed so yes of course I'll take u back'. She wasn't the same girl and as much as it hurt she needed time to understand this new carter this person that has grown and opened himself for her. A plane accident brings them back together and sometimes that's all there is to get someone to think and finally realize'what the fuck am I doing, he's it for Me'
I just absolutely loved this one.

Another one perfectly done, you can't go wrong with, R.J. Lewis!!!!!!

The final installment brought a bit of disappointment along with it for me. There was a lot of retelling the past that really gripes me when an author makes readers wait for the ending to the story. All of this could have easily been included in a one book standalone. But putting my grumpiness aside, I still loved this series and the characters that brought much angst and sadness into the story along with some prime romance and fun-to-read interaction between characters. Hardly ever can I say no to young love in a friends to lovers trope, and especially when it includes a musical heartthrob, who's a bit of a bad boy with a sad tale to sing. And double that with a sweet and sad girl who gives her heart and soul to the bad boy only to have it thrown back at her. Ah, but thankfully there are always second chances and even bad boys sometimes wake up and realize what they've thrown away -- and if they're lucky everyone gets a happy ever after.

6 Absolutely Brillant Soulmate Stars!!

It's not often I give a five star rating... and six stars is really only for the books that outshine the rare five-star reads because the story was so perfect, so touching, and the characters become like family. "Carter" and "Leah" are definite six stars.

Leah's story continues where "Carter" left off. With flashbacks of their stormy relationship, their passion, their incredible longing for one another and their own fight for self-preservation. Carter is now a rock star and Leah has almost finished College. Their lives are as different as night and day, but they were always the same: soulmates with a connection so strong, no one else ever really stood a chance.

I loved this book and can't wait to read more by this author!

Yeah, I made my own book cover. I think the beautiful love story needs to be seen on the cover itself. And definitely not feeling the lurve on that brownish cover.

“If it makes you feel better, your lips are better than I remember, and I want to thank you for giving me the privilege of kissing them again.”
-Carter

Kinda sad to say goodbye to Leah and Carter. I loved their story. I cried a lot on this book. I was a mess!

Hopefully there'll be a Rome/Melanie's story next.

I gave the first book three stars as it was just okay for me. But I was interested enough to see how Carter and Leah's story would pan out in this final book. Unfortunately it was just more of the same. Except this time the roles were reversed, now it's Leah instead of Carter who doesn't want to commit. Part of me didn't blame her, but it went on and on. The forays into the past here were just as irritating as in the first book. Their time apart could have been whittled down taking up less pages IMO. Even though this 2 book series wasn't exactly for me, I will certainly read more from this author.

In this book Leah and Carter seem to switch places. He realizes what he wants and she is too scared to accept that he has changed.. Leah bothered me in this one with her leading Carter on then finding every excuse to not be with him.

Good read

Breathe squeezed out so tight, heart burst into 5 million stars

I reallly should not be surprised with RJ, she has always managed to wreck me. She's my wrecker author. And I freaking loved every single heart squeezing moment. I was a complete wreck after Carter and I needed to know what happens to Leah and Carter. And I got my answer.

The story starts off where Carter leaves off, no one knows what's happened and no one know's anything. Leah cannot believe her eyes or ears at the news and she wishes for time to be turned back. But alas time can never be turned around, time moves on leaving everything behind. And so we take a trip back to when she last saw Carter.

What unfolds is something that breaks my heart. What do you do when you make a mistake? What do you do when you leave everything that has ever meant anything to you because of fear? You try your best to be patient when everything inside you in clawing to do the opposite. Time is your best-friend and your worst enemy. You fear the worst ever nightmare coming true leaving you alone for ever. What unfolds is quite simple, we all want not to hurt and we try our best to stop the hurting and we push others away when we fear the pain.

Leah and Carter's story has made me cry silents tears because these two kids have been through so much and they are still going through so much. In life you meet people that change your life, Leah and Carter both played that role in their lives. They each made a place in my heart and I wept as the story ran along. It was heartbreaking to watch Carter struggle and Leah try to be brave.

About 72% into the book I totally lost it and hugged my pillow. The saddest thing in life not being able to trust another to not hurt you knowing that this person would cut off a limb than hurt you and yet we make the mistake of not trusting them. I am not gonna tell you whether Leah and Carter would end up together cos I want you to read. I loooooove Carter, that little 10 year kid strumming at him guitar and I Leah that sweeet little girl sneaking around Carter to listen to him play.

RJ Lewis thank you again for giving me something to love and you are feeding my addiction to angst quite lovingly. I freaking love you woman.

I realized I never reviewed this after I read it the first time. So here goes almost a year to the day ;)

Oh, girl...you should have read those letters sooner.

This was so much more satisfying reading the series back to back. I'm bumping it up a star because of that.

This is a great angsty series without a lot of OW/OM drama. It doesn't detract from the H/h relationship during their separation. Through the tiny tidbits we learn they both saw others surfacely and that the H never made it a habit to fuck the groupies. So, no rockstar man-ho. Points for that shit right there.

There is no real plot beyond the push and pull of their relationship, the book centers completely around their interactions during the 4 1/2 years they're apart. It was still great and completely consuming. I read this one straight through. The premise for her resistance to get back with him is solid. He is truly in love with her by the end and he felt his mistake the moment he left her at the end of the first book.

I recommend the whole series.

Safety-Gang, there are no graphic scenes with OW/OM...except one where the H kicks a random groupie out of his room after he caught her sneaking in and we learn he doesn't fuck groupies. So....seriously, give it a go because the H is in love with his h and it's romance swoon at its finest.
