My opinions from the first book hold strong as we pickup in the second part to the trilogy and spend more time with our four main characters, Diarmuid O’Sullivan and his potential brides Niamh Connolly, Amira Reardon, and Selene. Even though parts are nauseating, I really like this.
Here, I am not the hunter nor the hunted; I am simply Diarmuid, master of this domain. -- Diarmuid O’Sullivan
Secrets and death are everywhere. I have mixed opinions of Amira, feeling as disgusted by her actions as I am sorry for some things she experiences. Selene is occasionally reckless in her pursuit of the truth, which puts me on edge. Niamh has lost some of her innocent side, but in its place is a fierceness and calm that I like.
Lastly, Diarmuid shows that he can be as ruthless as he is understanding and kind. I like the dichotomy and find myself rooting for his ultimate success in this dangerous game of cat and mouse that he's in the middle of.
The cliffhanger is... GAH! To say it's a nail biter is an understatement. Dang it all! 😲
There are trigger warnings for this book, so check the author's website if you need to. Also, this is a continuation and should be read in series order. There's enough details provided for some things that you'll be able to figure out if you skip book one, but not everything is explained and may change your enjoyment without that exposure.
I received an author's copy of the audio book. The cast of narrators, Maeve York, Scarlett Rose McCloughan, Ava Flynn, and Scott Rose, are great choices. Their Irish accents are fantastic and make me long for a trip back to the shores of Donegal (or anywhere else in lovely Ireland).
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another astonishing book, the continuation from the first book and this second book went just as quick. The action, suspense, drama, betrayal, lies, secrets, twist, the continuation of Diarmuid, Niamh, Selene and Amira the three brides and my God there is another book. Yippee can't wait.

When Kings Bend is the second book in The O'Sullivan's Brides series. These books need to be read in order, as this book starts off right where book one ends. This book is told from multiple points of view from Diarmuid, Niamh, Amira, and Selene.
Diarmuid is still trying to figure out who he wants to be his wife. After Diarmuid kicks Amira out she takes shelter with Wolf. However, she has been through so much and fights for her way. Diarmuid is now trying to figure out how to get Amira back.
We learn more about all four of these characters. The three girls are fighting for their spots, and we see more of why each girl wants this place by Diarmuid's side.
I am ready to see what happens next in this series. I'm curious to see who Diarmuid picks, or if he ends up with all three women.
Wow. This second follow up book was - EXPLOSIVE, riddled with twists and new revelations yet weaved with more questions to be answered and secrets to be uncovered with some really spicy and sizzling times. 🔥
I had my doubts and worries after what happened in the first book where Amira was taken away by Wolf. Amira's actions were like a swinging pendulum on the scale of morality where certain instances made me detest her and at one time, I was sure I hated that girl but then as we get further in the book, she's the one girl who's shocked me and has evoked a reluctant awe for her in me.
We also see Selene and Niamh teaming up together and continuing their search for the truth and trying their best in detangling the age old secrets of the secret society that they were forced to be a part of. I loved their adventures finding the clues and that expedition towards the end had me absolutely fascinated.
There's also a certain level of darkness that you can feel especially where Wolf and Amira were concerned and those brought tears to my eyes to see the depravity other innocents were suffering through. But I have to give it to our author for spinning this part of the story in such a way that I loved the twist but would not have seen coming.
What I especially loved witnessing is the progression of the relationship dynamics between Diarmuid and his would-be brides. There's a closeness now, a familiarity but also the intimacy is more about knowing each other now and there's also a certain level of affection that I felt he was developing.
It goes without saying that the steamy scenes in the first one were freaking hot and I was definitely expecting some more steaminess in this one. I freaking loved the SPICE ON HIGH SCENES. Even though, Amira is missing this time around as she has her own 𝗁𝖾𝗅𝗅 to fight with, but this one was 🥵🌶️🌶️. Diarmuid with Selene and Niamh together were on fire and gave us extra spice loaded times. 🔥🔥🔥
There was lots of action going on especially towards the end of the book that had me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know what happened next.... I was like 😲 and so scared for what would happen next. It was like one blow after another is what I felt the twists were like. And then that ending... Oh my.... I'm such a nervous wreck right now and I seriously can't wait to get my hands on the next book soon enough. Absolutely loved loved this one.

💌 Why Choose? Dark Romance (for him 😉) 💌 Mafia/ Hitman 💌 Irish Royalty/ Secret Society 💌 Secrets and Betrayals 💌 Romantic Suspense 💌 Family Politics and Dangerous ties 💌 🥵🔥🌶️ (Ofcourse, duh!! 😉)
This is “When King’s Bend”, the continuation of “When King’s Rise”. In the series Dark Irish Mafia Romance, The O’Sullivan’s Brides Book Two). It does deal with a cult and Mafia life also. There will be a book three “When Kings Fall” next. I would suggest you read the first book before this one as it has many points that will enrich the reading of this book. Although it can be read as a stand alone. Diarmuid is our big handsome MMC. He’s a killer that roams the street at night taking out his hit list. A “King” in a society called “The Hand’s Of King’s”.. And he’s proven himself, so he’s gifted three “wives”. The tree wives are Selene, Niamh and Amira. Unfortunately he is supposed to choose a final one according to the “rules”. He has discovered an enemy/rival in the workings of the society and has been forced to protect his wives. Amira, was stolen away but he doesn’t cease to look for her (book one). Amira was captured by Wolf, Diarmuid’s cousin. Amira is going down a dark path, doing horrible things, willingly. Yet feels victimized. Selene (Troublemaker, book one) is putting on a front with her grandparents. Pretending to be traveling the world. Whereas she’s just spending “protected” time with Diarmuid and Niamh. And…she’s also living a double life (from book one). Even Diarmuid know’s nothing about it. Niamh has a sister, Ella, a ballerina that she goes against Diarmuid’s demand that they stay within his fortress for their protection. She has to see her sister. Many bad and good things happen. This is a story, different than many. It’s not for everyone as it deals with a cult, explicit sexual situations, sex trafficking, abuse, murder and more…I would definatly say it’s a very adult read. Find out if Diarmuid gets Amira back, if he kills Wolf, and most all..will he choose only the one “wife”?.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Three brides have been given to me: Niamh is as delicate as the careful steps she takes, Selene is as challenging as the secrets she’s trying to unravel, and Amira who has been lost to me. Someone has taken her and that fool does not realize that a King never forgives or forgets.
Blood debts must be paid and the collectors are knocking on doors. The Hand himself keeps the ledger and my name has been written in red. Yet, no shadows appear at my doorstep. He may be the Hand of the Kings, but I am Diarmuid O’Sullivan. Before this cult infiltrated Dublin, my family ruled it.
And this King always fights for his throne. This time, I am not fighting alone. Despite my desire to keep them safe and secure, my brides have no fear of shadows. In fact, they are determined to shine a light in every dark crevice where my enemies hide. They don’t realize that if that light shines on me, they may not like what they see. Some Kings are monsters.
This is the second book in the “The O'Sullivan's Brides” and is just an intriguing at the first. It will have you hooked - I could not put it down! As some questions are answered, more arise! The chosen King, Diarmuid, now only has two virgin brides, Selene and Niamh. The two girls become friends, both with completely opposite personalities, but both keep him on his toes. He loves qualities in both of them. Which one will he choose? Will there investigations lead them to the truth? Cannot wait to find out!!
I did not want it to end - cannot wait for the series finale. From page to page, chapter to chapter, I could not put it down - you will metaphorically be on the edge of your chair! Overall, I would highly recommend this book and you will not be disappointed 😊
This is the 2nd book in this series. The clues to the Secret Society/Cult are being delved into and plots are being hatched to uncover who is actually behind its continued success.
There’s the death of a few characters, one’s house/business burnt to the ground, and each bride making their own plays to secure their future. Each woman has come into their own and not all in a good way.
The survivors in this group of characters is not guaranteed. Especially since a new suspect has come to light. One who seemed untouchable and unsuspected, is now the prime suspect. And did I mention Niamh and Selene are missing and all the security/body guards have been extinguished.
This story snags you. Reeling you in slowly, toying with you. Then! SNAP! It bites your hand and won’t let go. I can’t wait for the next installment.
When Kings Bend is the second installment in the O'Sullivan Brides Series and must be read after book #1, When Kings Rise.
While I found book #1 to be kind of an introduction to this new world of a powerful, untouchable and ruthless cult, tought to be more ancient than Christ himself, the present account is way more enlightning in what concerns the true nature of the Hands of Kings, its influence, the visible head and the folklore that lies behind and, as every cult, the extension of its reach to make people naturally intimidated and eager to be part of such grandiosity, at the same time.
Diarmuid has a plan and knows Victor might be the one holding the sword, but not the only wielding the power. He'll find out who and strike in due course. Summoned and his brides blatantly threatned, he knows he'll have to be even more careful with Selene and Niamh' security, capitalizing on their secret agendas and what they were able to uncover so far.
When it felt like Diarmud and Selene seemed to be peculiarly more engaged with each other, Niamh bearing the possibility of a plan B for herself, her sister and her future, took the reigns and confronted the culprits for her present situation, returning empowered and ready to go until the end.
I loved to see the three envolved as a team working to dig deeper in the Hands of Kings' mysterious ways. On the other hand, it breaks my heart to see Amira, so thirsty for a semblance of peace, admiration, comfort and love, struggling to survive the abuse, degradation and brutality, once more, because she knows nothing else but. For now, she was at least able to experience catharsis. It was savagely beautiful! I just hope the king and the girls can save her from herself.....
For someone who was ready to choose the most appropriate bride for Diarmud O'Sullivan myself, I changed my mind and want this three-for-one package deal, because as the man himself, I absolutely love all three of them, Selene's guile, Niamh's sweet determination and Amira's perseverance. And after such ordeal as the night in the yatch, the frenzied obstacle is out of the way (Amira, I loved how your mind worked!), with consequences certainly. The king will bend now, but in the end, someone else is going to break.
Very intriguing and dynamic, the narrative exposes enough to grab the readers attention and leaves several open doors to make it come back for more. A very interesting slant on the secret society troupe, emotionally complex and satisfying, romantic suspense in crescendo ready for full frution in the next book, or so I hope!
4.25stars-WHEN KINGS BEND is the second instalment in Vi Carter’s contemporary, adult THE O’SULLVAIN BRIDES dark, erotic, romance series focusing Irish Mafia King Diarmuid O'Sullivan, and his three virgin brides Selene, Naimh, and Amira. WHEN KINGS BEND should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book one-WHEN KINGS RISE.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there WILL BE triggers for more sensitive readers.
SOME BACKGROUND: The Kings is a cult-like organization with the ability to replace and control CEOs, Presidents and Popes, and Diarmuid is about to rise to the position he has always wanted in the face of the death of his uncle Andrew O’Sullivan but family secrets and demons are threatening from the past.
Told from four first person perspectives (Diarmuid, Selene, Naimh, Amira) WHEN KINGS BEND follows the building but struggling relationship between Diarmuid and his remaining two brides Selene and Naimh. Amira has been chosen by someone else, and in this, the trio is struggling with the truth. As Selene continues to search for any information about the ‘cult’ into which they have been thrown, Amira’s new life is anything like she could have ever imagined. Death and destruction are waiting for them all when vengeance and retribution take aim at our story line hero.
The world building continues to focus on the Diarmuid, his embittered cousin Wolf, and the three brides chosen: Selene, Naihm, and Amira. Selene has come through as the dominant and more aggressive bride, while Selene focuses on protecting someone back home. As Amira’s life begins to spiral out of control, Wolf loses his touch with sanity, threatening everyone and anything that gets in his way.
The secondary and supporting characters include Diarmuid’s brother Ronan and Lorcan, their embittered cousin Wolf; head of the Hand of Kings Victor Maddigan, as well as the appearance of Naimh’s parents, and the Amira’s mother.
WHEN KINGS BEND is another story of power and control, betrayal and retribution, secrets and lies, murder and madness, desperation and denial, family and relationships. The premise is dark, dramatic and twisted; the characters are determined, desperate and tragic; the romance is limited to acceptance but jealousy prevails. WHEN KINGS BEND ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.
Diarmuid, Niamh and Selene are back. They are fighting to survive the dangerous world of the Hand of Kings while also trying to determine who Diarmuid will choose as his queen. Wolf and Amira are back as well. Their story crosses with Diarmuid’s story but it is a separate path that they must travel to find their place in the world of Hand of Kings.
This story focuses on each character having to walk through fire to come out the other side stronger and more resilient. The friendship between Selene and Niamh is stronger than ever. Diarmuid is concerned that the relationship between the women will make it difficult to make his choice but he feels responsible for their protection. I really like the way the author grows and changes the relationship between the three of them. Amira’s story is hard to read because of the things she has to do to survive. Wolf is a terrible human who hurts people and enjoys it. Amira and Wolf together are a terrifying pair. There are side characters and side stories that help to round out the story and help with character development. Diarmuid, Niamh and Selene go on a side quest that felt a little out of place but what the trio discover is going to be critical to the conclusion of the story.
This story is the continuation of When Kings Rise. You MUST read these books in order. This is a mafia story with family drama and a potential love story. I look forward to reading how the author finishes this series.
This second book in The O'Sullivan's Brides series picks up right where we left off in the first book. With this installment we are led deeper into the intrigues of what is occurring and although we get to know all the players better, there are also still so many unknowns.
I wasn't sure what I would make of a straight up harem romance, and I'm definitely in some ways enjoying this more than I thought I would - but how could I not since I love this author's writing style? She has a way of building up suspense and keeping you on the edge, desperate to see what happens next. At the same time, I'm struggling a little because I really prefer to have only one female as the main focus in my romance and it's hard for me to not read this and try and do the same here. In my mind I keep reading this with the thought of one of the women winding up as the ultimate heroine of the story and being married to Diarmuid, but since it's tagged harem, I assume that he is intended to wind up with all of them at the end? What makes it especially tricky for me is that I have one of them I prefer over the other two, although I do like both of them. But third member of the harem I find unlikeable and irredeemable and hoped she was sidelined permanently as a part of the harem, but since we get her POV, I'm assuming I'm wrong on that.
Either way, I plan to keep reading because this story is gripping and I can't wait now to see how it will all play out and things will get resolved!
This was an excellent second book/continuation of Diarmuid, Selene, Niamh, and even Amira’s story!
Just when I thought I had things somewhat figured out there was another twist! The twist just kept coming! This book became my addiction!
Just like the first book, the deeper I got into this one, the more I liked Diarmuid. Yes, he’s definitely a bit of a morally grey hero type, but there’s true goodness and caring in him. I liked how Selene and Niamh worked together on trying to put all the pieces together to find answers. I especially liked Niamh confronting her parents and finally feeling like she had some control in her life along with an infusion of confidence!
Then there’s Amira. I wasn’t a fan of hers in the first book though I was sympathetic to what she’d been through. While a lot had changed in this book, my feelings about her mostly remained the same. I shuddered at some of what she went through in this book, yet, again, a lot of it was because of a choice she made. I’m really curious to see what happens with her in the next book.
I’m on pins and needles to see who is responsible for the kidnapping and why!!! I can’t wait for the next book!!! October can’t get here soon enough!.

Book 2 Diarmuid O’Sullivan is in one of the organization called Hands of Kings. He's considered a King, an assassin. He's been fighting to become the don of his family. Victor is the puppet master who controls his future and assignments. The organization gifted him with three virgin brides and at the end of book one Amari was kidnapped by his cousin Wolfe another King. Her life with Wolfe is hard, she's punished for her actions in this abusive relationship where she tries to escape. The other possible brides Selene and Niamh put themselves in danger to solve a mystery of the Hands of Kings. I love how each woman has grown and become stronger. Diarmuid tries to be a great protector for them. Will they discover the secrets of the organization? Will Amari survive and return back to Diarmuid brides? An amazing story filled twists and turns as secrets, betrayal, and lies are unraveled in this intense story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
In the continuation of the previous story, Diarmuid, and two of his three prospective brides, Selene and Niamh, are still seeing one another, but the third, Amira has disappeared. She is with his cousin Wolf, which is unknown to Diarmuid, with Wolf also kidnapping Amira's mother...making Diarmuid think her mother may have spirited Amira out of town...In a story with more twists and turns, this roller-coaster ride shows Niamh and Selene growing closer as they work on puzzling out the secret society they were born into, which brought them to Diarmuid. There are spicy scenes, diabolical betrayals, rivalries and depravity and another cliffhanger ending, making this reader impatient for the conclusion of Diarmuid's story and which bride will be chosen...I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.
Whew can this author create suspense and mysteries! Every time I thought I had the mystery of the Hand of the Kings figured out, they threw something else in to confuse you more. I really enjoyed the mystery of it all. I will say this is definitely a dark romance. Please, please read the trigger warnings before reading this book. There are several, most severely rape, domestic abuse, and drug usage. There is also some spicy scenes, some that include F/F, so if that isn’t your thing, you may not want to read this novel. Overall, I loved this book as a suspenseful, mystery novel, but the romance was a little off putting to me, mainly for Niamh. However, if you like dark romances with mafia undertones and mysteries this is a great book for your TBR!.

When Kings Bend (Book 2 of The O'Sullivan's Brides) by Vi Carter is a mafia romance. I highly recommend reading book 1 first so you understand this book fully. This book has such an original plot and storyline. Not only does it deal with mafia it also deals with a cult like group called “The Hand’s Of King’s”. This book delves more into who and what they are. There is a lot working in the plot of this book and I do not want to give too much away. It is intriguing, mysterious, spicy, and an entertaining read. I enjoyed the originality of the plot line. Diarmuid is an enforcer and a „King“. He was gifted three potential brides Selene, Niamh and Amira and eventually has to pick one. Amira is missing and there are so many secrets surrounding everyone. It was a great read and I can not wait for the next installment!
How do I write this review without adding major spoilers?
Im on the edge of my seat here and extremely emotional. Did not expect my emotions to be so all over the show.
The brides are one hell of a story to follow.. their very difficult time navigating what they did not choose but are living and now need to come to terms to.
Its friendship, love and turmoil with spice and adventure and suspense .. a lot of wondering what is happing or happening next.
Im sitting scouring the internet for any clues from Vi Carter what book 3 will hold but it seems like I will have to just wait like everyone else :)
When writing this I needed to wait 40 days for book 3 which is not to bad but again O'Sullivan's brides is in my head and wont leave till I finish it.. I hope it has a wonderful conclusion. My heart.. Vi… what you doing to me???
This is book 2 in Carter's The O'Sullivan's Brides series and a continuation of the series - not to be read / listened to as a standalone. While book 1 was indeed dark, I felt that book 2 went so much deeper down the rabbit hole so to speak. Our main male character Diarmuid is being tested time and time again and his brides, well - they seem to bring their own drama and while Diarmuid attempts to keep them all safe, they continue to put themselves in harm's way. This book is beautifully narrated, and Carter delivers more dark themes, twists, suspense and danger than ever in this mafia with cult vibes read / listen. Be forewarned this book, like book 1, ends in a cliffy!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read.
Anxiously awaited Diarmuid’s path to choosing a bride! I was amazed by Diarmuid’s search for Amira after she went missing. Yet his reaction to discovering who had her, the melee at a gathering, Victor’s ruling and Diarmuid’s decision are all unexpected. I love Diarmuid’s facilitating Selene’s need to unravel the Hand of Kings history despite Victor’s ominous statement. You can feel Niamh’s growth as she takes on protecting her sister from her parents, and her decision to embrace her new direction. There is no way not to struggle with Amira’s unsettled life despite still trying to find a better way to manage. To say that Vi leaves you devouring the pages is an understatement, and will leave you wanting “When Kings Fall” ASAP!
I’m loving the suspense, the mystery, and the machinations directing all the characters! Diarmuid is much more than a robotic assassin: he’s questioning, analyzing, and plotting for freedom. His brides aren’t afraid to look for their answers. Selene and Niamh have bonded in many ways: their curiosity is mesmerizing. Vi Carter has taken a mafia romance into a different stratosphere with this series! Cruelty, ruthlessness, and danger lurks everywhere and it strikes with a vengeance. Amira’s suffering is devastating, but she is so strong! The cliffhanger is a reminder that no one is safe.

Enough twist to make my head spin. Wow what an amazing second book in the O'Sullivan's Brides collection. Continuation of Cult meets mafia romance, some questions I had from the first book were answered, but more arose reading this book. This book truly gave me whiplash, but not in a way that is confusing. The intricacies of this book have me really captivated and wanting even more. I'm anxious for the decision that Diarmuid where his brides are concerned, he feels like my favorite character. Dark and twisted as the first book, I cannot even describe the intense feeling that this book invokes for me.

When Kings Bend is Book 2 of The O'Sullivan's Brides, I found it to be both suspenseful and a page-turner. I thought the author did an amazing job of telling the story of When Kings Bend. I thought When Kings Bend to be exceptionally well written. I found When Kings Bend to be both enjoyable and entertaining at the same time. Now I’m not going to give any details because I don’t want to ruin the book for other readers. However, I would highly recommend this book to others. Another amazing Mafia Romance book.

We now know where Amira disappeared to, she fell for Wolf’s charms and no doubt bragging about his status in life except he’s full of it and taking a kings possible bride ( even if diarmuid allowed her to go) meant a demotion for him which he takes out on Amira. As for Diarmuid he seems to be making Selena his first choice and he hasn’t exactly pushed Niamh aside she does seem to be on the outside looking in, I think Shes his best choice to be honest she’ll be by his side as a loyal but will not question his decisions which, as loyal as she’d be to him Selena would be more confrontational. Next book will reveal his choice
Diarmuid, Selene and Niamh are still coming to terms with the fact that Amira has been taken. More revelations come to light and we learn more about Amira and what has happened to her. There is also the ongoing storyline revolving around the Kings and what, in particular, Selene and Niamh, are uncovering. You'll need to have read the first book before this one, otherwise I think it would get too confusing. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series to find out who Diarmuid chooses and to tie up all the unsolved mysteries and all the unanswered questions.

This is the second installment of the O'Sullivan's Brides series, it is not recommended to read this without reading the first book. Diarmuid O’Sullivan is fighting to become the head of the family. He was gifted with three virgin brides to chose from for his wife. This is s not for the faint of heart, there is abuse, including sexual and drug use involved. This is not just M/F interaction but F/F as well. One of his brides is abducted by his cousin, will Diarmuid be able to locate her and save from the abuse she is receiving?
This is ends on a cliffhanger and continues in When Kings Fall.

This book picks up after the events of When King's rise and had me on the edge of my seat. All the suspense, drama, lies and betrayal surrounding Diarmuid, Niamh, Selene, Amira and The Hands of Kings had me flying through the pages. This book is dark and twisted and the journey these four main characters go through leaves a mark on each of them. I can't wait to see what happens next. Another great must read book.

As always with any Vi Carter book I knew it was going to be good!! When Kings Bend is the second installment of the O’Sullivan’s Brides. This is a dark mafia romance, intensified by the presence of a cult (not out outrageously though), it has mature themes, mature language, and some very mature steam (hubba hubba). Delicious! Page turning hotness!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and as always will continue to read Vi Carter's books!.

So so good! I have read other novels by this author and loved them. This novel did not disappoint. I loved the first novel in the series and this novel did not disappoint. I love a good mafia novel throw in a cult vibe and you can count me in. This novel had me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. I could not put this novel down. From the first chapter to the last this novel captured my attention and held on tight. I can't wait till the next novel in the series comes out, I need to know what is coming next. Loved it, so so good!
