"Digital Descent" by David Kaprai deserves every bit of its four-star rating. From the opening, with its brilliant hook that spring-boarded me into the story, I was utterly captivated. Daniel McKnight's journey, from surviving a horrific car crash to uncovering the dark side of the revolutionary Cognysync brain implant, is a thrilling ride packed with unexpected twists and turns.

Kaprai's world-building is immersive and unsettling, painting a vivid picture of a near future where technology's allure and dangers are intertwined. Daniel's race against time, aided by his AI girlfriend, to expose a powerful corporation's sinister secrets, kept me on the edge of my seat. The blend of advanced tech, moral dilemmas, and human resilience made the story exciting and deeply thought-provoking.

"Digital Descent" is not just a must-read for sci-fi and speculative fiction fans, it's a must-read for anyone interested in an engaging and intelligent look into our potential technological future. It's a narrative that will stimulate your intellect and keep you pondering long after you've turned the last page.

One of those few books I finished in one go. Set in the not-so-distant future, the themes and topics discussed in the novel are highly relevant and some of them we can already see unfolding today. Because of this, the experience is intriguing and even scary sometimes.

The characters. The dynamics between the protagonist, the sympathetic underdog Daniel, and his quirky but charming AI companion are especially well-written. The antagonist, the fallen hero Drake Mason is a constant threat, gradually drifting further away from his sanity and humanity.

The story. You're in for a ride full of twists and turns from the very first sentence, culminating in an ending that is cleverly hinted at yet unexpected.

Highly recommended!

Gritty future

I enjoyed the world building and characters in this story. Much of the plot has been seen before in science fiction, but the author did provide enough varieties to keep the story interesting.

Clunky and cliche'ish at times, but still a solid thriller.
