Yellowstone Supervolcano explodes, turning North America into a desperate post-apocalyptic world in which a ghost ship becomes the floating battleground for the protagonists from Book 2.
Egyptologist Naunet Wilkins and her scientist husband Jonathan must flee the lawless United States. They accept an uneasy offer from Egyptian archaeologist Jabari El-Masri, a fugitive from his own country, who is given refuge on Venezuela's Isla Margarita, owned by fanatic art collector Lorenzo Dominguez.
Did El-Masri barter the fifty Egyptian Golden Tablets and the expertise of his American friends in exchange for his own exile? Once again, Naunet is torn between translating the ancient curses for the ruthless South American billionaire and protecting future generations from the dire prophecies. As another ill-wind blows, she tries to find the answer.
After the Cataclysm, Book 3 of the Author's historical fiction series "Legends of the Winged Scarab," is a dystopian thriller. It combines modern action & adventure with the mysteries of Ancient Egypt as told in Khamsin, The Devil Wind of The Nile, Book 1. Sirocco, Storm over Land and Sea, Book 2, and The Crystal Curse, Book 4, are also modern-day thrillers with tie-ins to the other novels. However, each volume can stand alone.
Ms. Borg lives in a small lake community in Arkansas, where she writes historical and contemporary fiction, especially Ancient Egypt, followed by international adventure and intrigue around Modern Egypt, and beyond.
After the Cataclysm, book 3 of Legends of the Winged Scarab, by Inge H. Borg is an action packed thriller which kept me hooked. The fast pace adventures kept the tale of the Legends of the Winged Scarab going and growing.
I really enjoyed the storyline of the book and how it brought the first two books together to an exciting climax. It is well written and easy to follow even with its twist and turns. The author's storytelling style captures your imagination and pulls you into the adventure.
Inge H. Borg has developed a cast of characters that are both believable and easy to follow. They are strong yet have the vulnerability of normal people. I really enjoyed getting to know them
I really liked After the Cataclysm by Inge H. Borg and I highly recommend this book and the entire series.

After the Cataclysm: Legends of the Wing Scarab #3 by Inge Borg is the third in the series and the second book to feature the same main characters. The first book takes place in predynastic Egypt and the next two books in contemporary times. This book can stand alone, but rides nicely after the second book.
A short time has passed since the end of the second novel. The story revolves around the interactions of three groups of people. Egyptologist Naunet and husband Jonathan Wilkins are living in New England. Former Director Jabari El-Masri, fleeing from Egypt, thought to have died escaping is arranging his future with Lorenzo Dominguez a rich South American art “collector.” Jabari is trading the fifty pitch covered gold tablets for his safety and a new life.
To make matters interesting the super volcano in Yellowstone erupts, not only bring down American society and the Northern Hemisphere in a volcanic “nuclear winter,” but also affects the entire world with the loss of the only superpower. The world order and international law are now a thing of the past without a willing enforcer. Naunet and Jonathan are bunkered down in Jonathan's family home trying to weather out the natural disaster and protect their property. With no internet or phone service ham radio becomes the method of long distance communications. Jonathan receives a message from Jabari to meet him at a set of coordinates in the Caribbean.
The story moves quickly and will hold the reader’s attention. There is plenty of nautical information as most of the story takes place on a boat and ship. Woven into the adventure is the story of the fifty golden, engraved tablets, a curse, and possibly closure for all the characters. Even with the natural disaster and the collapse of the United States the plot stays focused on the story at hand.
I have read and reviewed the previous two books for Author Alliance (www.authoralliance.net) and an reading the third book, on my own, because I enjoyed the previous two books and enjoyed the story and characters. After the Cataclysm lives up to the quality of the previous two books. Borg pays attention to the details in all her books and that is part of what makes them interesting. She combines real and convincing elements into her story and leaves the reader a bit more educated at the end of the book. For action/adventure books this series rates high on my list.

FOUR STARS
Another storm-based, fast-paced, satisfying thriller., April 15, 2014 By Jim Bennett
This review is from: After the Cataclysm (Legends of the Winged Scarab) (Kindle Edition)
As always, do not let my star count override your judgement of content. Borg has provided us with a third novel in her series, and readers of the first two will most definitely not be disappointed. More on the stars, counting, and my rating challenges later.
While the plot has many fascinating twists and turns, the basic story premise is a massive cataclysm which humbles all of North America and leaves the northern atmosphere full of dust. In addition, the unrest in Egypt figures in, as does the greed of unscrupulous individuals.
Borg's characters all grow in this book, some in ways more pleasant than others.
Against the backdrop of catastrophe, the chief characters make risky decisions for their own survival. You will also find a love story with a few smaller ones inside it. While not graphic, the lovemaking scenes are satisfying and add to the hopes and fears of the characters.
If you're scrolling for the tiny carps, forget it. Maybe a typo somewhere. Back to the good stuff.
For those who have not read Khamsin, The Devil Wind of The Nile (Book 1) or Sirocco, Storm over Land and Sea (Book 2), Borg has cleverly wound into this story all you will need to know. If you're hoping to meet persons from these earlier books, for the most part you will not be disappointed. A few new characters are an added spice. This is a fun book. And, at the end, there is a hint of promise of a fourth book - one I would like to read.
Oh yes, there is another very large storm at sea here as well, and it is carefully handled. I should also mention that, so far as I can tell, Borg's geography, technology, weather, et cetera are all correct. (I check pretty much everything, eh?) This is a well-thought out volume. That said, how do I come up with four stars?
My personal guidelines, when doing an `official' KBR review, are as follows: five stars means, roughly equal to best in genre. Rarely given. Four stars means, extremely good. Three stars means, definitely recommendable. I am a tough reviewer. Borg just keeps getting better. Four stars it is, and highly recommended.

"After the Cataclysm" by Inge H. Borg is her third book with an Egyptian theme, all three belong to the "Legends of the Winged Scarab" series. On this occasion the story is set in a post-apocalyptic / post-cataclysmic world where most of the US is wasteland and power and wealth are now in South America and Venezuela. Art theft, smuggling and material survival form the story of this book that brings back Egyptologist Naunet Klein from the previous book. She finds herself invited together with her husband, to join Egyptian archaeologist Jabari El-Masri and art collector Lorenzo Dominguez on an abandoned cruise ship in the Caribbean to help translate the inscription on Ancient Golden Tablets. Legends around the inscriptions and their threatening nature make this a difficult task for her, as does the entire set up of illegality and bribery and with untrustworthy partners in crime on board. The story is like an adventurous dream, ornate and meticulously set up. It tells with often sarcastic wit and Borg's signature dry sense of humour the motifs and hopes of our characters while checking those ideas constantly against the harsh reality. With her all-knowing point of view Borg let' s us look into all of their minds - a technique that I value. Obviously well researched and knowledgeable about Egypt and its culture Borg’s writing style is full of ornate and beautiful descriptions. Weaving in the ancient Egyptian mythology and legends lends an almost philosophical and moral aspects to some of the writing and plot. The boat that our heroes use is real and, once again, the precise descriptions make it come alive easily. At the same time, the futuristic setting does not distract from the story. What could have been a major component in the plot is merely a writer's tool in my eyes to show once more the enormity of time. Book 1 one (Khamsin, the Devil Wind of the Nile) was set in 3080 B.C, Book 2 (Sirocco, Storm over Land and Sea) in the present, and now Book 3, "After the Cataclysm," takes place only a couple of years into the future. It pays homage to the indestructability of the legends and the artefacts and with that made a lasting impression on this reader’s mind. While dystopian in nature the book spares us distractions that would not befit the story. Naunet and her husband, the art collector and the archaeologist are all excellent characters that make the reading experience a very enjoyable one.
Ms. Borg has become one of my favorite indie historical fiction authors. She returns with this new novel rich in texture, universal in theme, monumental in scope--pushing the genre to new heights. Not usually reading this kind of book, I was surprised at just how great all three in this series keeps you enthralled. I am in amore with the "Legends of the Winged Scarab' series. I think you will be to. Do not let the faint of heart be discouraged the end is awesome. You will not be disappointed. I was given this book for my honest review, by an excellent author, that writes excellent books.
Well written intriguing continuation. I like the choices of words and turns of phrasing. The characters have depth and feel nicely fleshed out. The dialogue feels natural. It is obvious a lot of research has gone into this book and it shows in a very positive manner. The plot feels original and has a fairly good flow. Overall this is an interesting read to spend time with, not a quick easy sort of read. I can easily recommend this series to most readers of action, adventure, mystery, suspense and sci fy. I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
