One shattered farm girl. The cowboy who has always loved her. Ninety days under one roof. After high school, Silas Dupree couldn’t put his hometown in the rearview mirror fast enough.
His hopes? That two thousand miles would be enough distance to make his stupid heart forget Clementine Shepherd, his sister’s best friend.
But a decade later, when his twin, Sophie, dies, Silas is forced to return home.
In true Sophie fashion, she couldn’t leave well enough alone, even dead. And when the will is read Silas and Clementine are shocked to find that Sophie left her teenage daughter to both of them.
With one stipulation.
The three must reside together, as a family, for ninety days before deciding on permanent custody. If they fail, a judge will decide Anna’s fate.
Can Clementine endure an entire summer with the quiet, closed-off man who ghosted her the minute they got their diplomas?
And can Silas keep his word to his new fiancé back in Wyoming while sleeping across the hall from the only woman he’s ever truly loved?
Perfect for readers who enjoy a sweet, slow burn. There will be hilarity and heartbreak, tears and tire-slashing. But always a hard-earned happily ever after.
Okay soo… it’s probably on me that I didn’t read the blurb closely enough. It literally says “And can Silas keep his word to his new fiancé back in Wyoming while sleeping across the hall from the only woman he’s ever truly loved?”
Cheating, emotional or otherwise, is not for me.
I loved the fact that Silas was in love with Clem since childhood, but the fact that he was ENGAGED to someone else while his inner monologue was constantly saying how much he loved Clementine was just gross.
Poor Christy (the fiancé), was made to sound “crazy,” but she was 100% justified in being jealous/worried!
On top of all this, the toxic masculinity in this book was just way too much for me. I’m sure it fit the characters/their upbringing, but the way they spoke to each other, especially the brothers, just didn’t work for me.
So why didn’t I DNF this one? 😅 Honestly, I really enjoyed Susan’s writing. I was hooked on these characters & I’m a bit of a sucker for a man being in love with his sister’s best friend since childhood.
The first few chapters really grabbed my attention and kept me holding on all the way through.
This was also on my 12 recs by 12 friends challenge, and I thought if a friend loved it enough to recommend it, maybe I could look past a few things… but they were just consistently there throughout the book.
So basically… if emotional cheating & toxic masculinity don’t bother you, you may love this one, because I did enjoy the actual writing & other elements of this book.

it’s very rare that I rate a book so low, mostly because I DNF early on when it’s not working for me. Something about this hook DID hook me & had me wanting to read it… But I just had soooo many issues with it I can’t rate it any higher.

Clean, contemporary romance. Set in a small ranching town with characters mainly from a family of ranchers and their neighbors, this romance kept me turning pages. I liked both of the main characters and their connection felt believable. There was a solidly happy ending. A little violence. No sex scenes but some references. Mild language. Themes of grief, loss, PTSD, relationship abuse, family drama, depression, pregnancy challenges and loss, a bit of bullying, etc
Oh my. Oh my gosh. Oh my. OH MY. OH MY WORD We have best friends brother, protective MMC , childhood friends, it was always you, roommate situation…. Oh my . Oh my . OH MY GOSH. Swoon swoon swoon. I am going to cry. This was TOO TOO GOOD. Ahhhhhhhh!! The way I binged this…. After the 60% , so many things were going on but of course we got that HEA!!! Thank you for enjoying my freak out session. Be right back, I need to tell all my friends about this.
⭐️ ~ 1 star Boy i have a lot to say about this book, firstly the one star has one reason only which is anna (the daughter) that is it I truly didnt see anything else worth more stars (not the plot nor the characters). The main plot was best friend’s brother but more or less it felt like a bunch of plots thrown together for no reason… pregnancy, cheating, small country (not the typical happy style) and found family.
Spoilers ahead Part of the plot that caused my head to spinnnn: The FMC ‘s bestfriend (the MMC’s twin) ies and writes in her will that they both live with her daughter and take care of her while living under one roof with no “strangers” to enter (she wrote that well knowingly that her best friend FMC is married and MMC has a job elsewhere, like i get you hate your bestfriends husband but this is a bit much). The MMC’s brother encourages him to explore his love to his long lasting crush (the FMC)inly to discover that he is engaged (yet his brother pushes him anyway???? Saying “you arent married though” excuse me?). During the funeral the FMC discovers her husband has been cheating on her and leaves him (even though somehow they have been together for 8 years and she still didnt feel like she loved him and was unhappy for at least 3 years with him) FMC discovers she is pregnant from her husband (even though she didn’t want kids from him so apparently he pierced the condom to “trick” her ????????) The MMC discovers he wants to be there for her so he puts his engagement on hold (“or a break”) per his fiancé’s request (doesnt share that info (engagement and break) with the FMC) Once the MMC realizes he wants an official relationship with FMC he breaks it off with the fiancé and within a day is in a relationship with the FMC (keeping in mind she has been divorced for 3 weeks by that point) His mom discovers the relationship throws an absolute fitttt and was being toxic from the start towards her (“but thats who she issss you need to learn to put better boundaries” ) 3 days after they are official they go on a family trip where the ex shows up and exposes the lies which causes the FMC to run away and because of the stress have a miscarriage, and refuse to call anyoneee from the MMC’s family (because lets be real at this point i wouldnt call them either not one of them was decent enough) but she called the cheating Ex (that doesnt know about his childdd) As the MMC was searching for the FMC he comes across his fiance and brother (bestfriend) making out which honestly what was the purpose? Then the next day he finds her abd she breaks it off because she is broken and needs to learn more about herself Fast forward two weeks where she has done the grieving and no emotional work whatsoever she reas a letter her bestfriend has left her and decideddd this is it i am meant to be with the MMC (gurl are you for real????? He wasnt honest didnt communicate and you didnt work on your mental health at alllll, your bestfriend died then your husband cheats then you get custody and pregnant and you get a new hubby and then he also cheats all in the span of 4 months…?????)
Characters wise: The FMC: honesty didnt feel she had a backbone it, in the first chapter it showed this this strong gal ready to take on the world kickass and all then slowly it turned to this human who is trying to get approval from anyone giving it, i simply wished we could have seen more personal growth from her.
The MMC: all i read was how much he used to lover her (focus on the past tense) in highschool he wanted to tell her, his heart broke when she got married, yet he simply did no grand gestures (till the last chapter) she made the first move (he was frozen) she went to him the end (by some luck he was singing and doing a side project for her) and he was “manipulated” into getting engaged??? What do you meannn and then when he had the chance to break it off to finally be with the “love of his life” he still thought oh i can have it both ways a month her with the FMC and then back with my fiancee, which honestly didnt sit with me at alllllllll.
The family dynamic was absolutely not a small country dynamic, the relationship of the sibling (in its good form) was shown only few times, while reading the will, the “nicknames”, and when of the brother helped the MMC with the food. That was it truly didnt see it and didnt feel i can connect with that family at all, like all the good dreams was bark and no bite.
In conclusion: i dont recommend it nor will i be continuing the series (the second book is about the cheating exfiance with the MMC’s brother).
I’ve read quite a few cowboy romances lately and all have been on the slightly spicy side. This however was just pure romance and a beautiful story, as a closed door it meant that it was all left up to my imagination and being a happy ever after fluffy (my friends description not mine) I never once felt like it was missing anything.
Forced proximity is a popular trope for a reason and the heartbreak attached with it this time played my heart strings like a fiddle.
Clementine and Silas are both tortured souls and the death of Sophie is going to force them to come together, be a family and hopefully heal their broken parts. Sophie may be dead but she came alive whenever she was mentioned and I adored her character. I can see her death was needed for the story but damn lady she needs her own book (hint hint for a prequel).
This small town romance was divine, an easy five stars and can’t wait for the next book.
Emotional small town friends-to-lovers romance with angst and a HEA
4.5⭐️ 1🌶️ Book 1 in the Seddledowne series—emotional small town romance full of angst, tension, hilarious moments, family, and heart. This is my first book by this author but it won’t be my last. I want to read every book in this series. I was hooked from page 1 and devoured it in a few hours. I cried, I laughed, I cried some more, and I got my HEA. 🥹
Silas Dupree has been in love with Clementine (Silas calls her Clem but everyone else calls her Lemon because Anna couldn’t pronounce Clementine) for the last 10+ years but never told her because she married someone else. Now he’s back in town for his sister, Sophie’s funeral, (Clementine’s best friend). A stipulation in Sophie’s will is that Silas & Clem move in together for 3 months to take care of Anna, Sophie’s teenage daughter—if they can’t make it the 90 days then a judge will decide Anna’s custody. Silas moves into Clem’s house (right after Clem catches her husband cheating and files for divorce). It seems like they finally will get their chance but a few things happen that conspire against their happiness. 🥺
He holds her hair when she’s sick.🤢 He leaves his new job and home in Wyoming to move back home so he’s there for Clem & Anna. ❤️ They both are broken - he doesn’t think he deserves Clem, and Clem doesn’t think she is worthy of love. 😢 Sophie’s letters to Silas & Clem to read after the 3 months is up just gutted me. 😞 When Silas tells Clem why he stopped roping/lost his scholarship in college because she got married and he couldn’t eat/sleep/his grades suffered. 🥺
Favorite quotes: ‘All I'd ever wanted was to be loved, completely and unconditionally.’
"I've waited my whole life for you. I don't want to wait another minute."
"You're my favorite person. I'm really glad Sophie did this. I missed you so much while you were gone.” ‘I was her favorite person? My heart couldn't even comprehend it. She'd always been mine.’
‘This summer, Silas had single-handedly put me back together piece by piece.’
‘Lemon needed to be near you this summer so she could see, frout and center, what being loved by a real man looks like.’
“Because the only thing worse than you being married to Billy was me having to come back to Seddledowne and watch from a front-row seat."
"You're not a party of one. You never have been. Too many people love you for that to be true. You will find happiness and love again. It will work out in the end. You know how I know? Because if anyone deserves it, it's my Clementine."
"I love you, Clem. And I'm going to fight for you. For us. Whatever it takes. All to pieces. I won't quit." All to pieces. The Duprees' saying. ❤️
Read this if you like: *Small town romance *Friends to lovers *Right person/wrong time *teacher/principal MMC *rancher/gym owner FMC *’It’s always been you’ *Angst/tension *Big family dynamics
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Silas Dupree & Clementine Shepherd - Dual POV - Built in playlist - Best friend’s twin brother - Cowboy, teacher MMC - Rancher owner, gym owner FMC - Forced proximity - Grief after the loss of sister & best friend - He falls first - Friends to lovers
✨ a few of my favorite things: - Anna and her love for her family, her silliness, and wishes - Lemon’s attitude and her going after what she wants - Sophie’s letters 🥹 & her personality - The cowboy brothers and their dynamic and teasing - Lemon’s bold moves - Team Trifecta 🥹 - The realness of the characters
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Book 1 of the Seddledowne Series - I could not put this story down. I am so invested in the characters and the plot. I flew through this book in a little over a day and have moved on to devouring the second book.
This book is messy in the very best way. It captures real life with flawed people who don’t always have the best first instincts or who screw up at first and have to apologize and do better. We rarely get things right the first time. So it was beautiful to see how the characters had to reconcile and decide where their priorities lie. There wasn’t idyllic situations where everything went perfectly. It was real life where people responded poorly and there was hurt that was easily laid down.
The chemistry between Silas and Clem is out of this world, and I’m obsessed with Team Trifecta 🥹 They have to fight hard for their love but I’m so glad finally got their HEA.
This is a closed door contemporary romance. The author clearly states in the beginning of the book that it is “a realistic, contemporary, small-town love story”. Author also gives content warnings in the beginning of the book. There is cursing, innuendo, and some discussions of sex.

This book left me a bit befuddled. I was really into it for the first half, even was able to roll with it until the last 30%ish. Then I thought that the drama went off the rails a bit and just didn’t seem all that necessary to get to the conclusion that was imminent.
I loved that Silas was a fall first, I have been in love with your forever, kind of man. I loved how he took care of Clementine and gave into the need and want that he had been holding back for years.
Clementine, I liked her. She had a few up and down moments for me but I did feel like she was truly trying her best with a handful of crappy situations. I’m not sure how I feel about one of the plot points used in this book and am just going to sit on the fence about it.
I can’t decide if I am going to read book two or not (I might just skip to three??) because of a few scenes in this book too.
I was so excited to be chosen for this ARC!! This book was so good from the first page to the last! All the emotions! I was immediately drawn in from the first chapter- so much happened that with every page you found more emotion and more depth to the characters. You were rooting for some and not others! The emotions and characters pulled out emotions in me and I was truly sucked into this book! I have now decided I love cowboy romances! Can’t wait for everyone to be able to enjoy it!!
This book immediately drew me in. There was no drawn out “build up” it started from the first paragraph, and within 3% had me in tears, which does not happen often from the start of a book.
Not only did this author write the characters beautifully she weaved a realistic and mature love story. It was a love story that could easily be in today’s world. There were ups and downs and they each had to find themselves and find their ways to each other.
You feel throughout the story how much each person carries with them from the past and how one major event can have such an effect on all the other things to come. I loved the role that the sister Sophie played in this story.
This author truly did a brilliant job of storytelling, heartstring pulling, warmth, and love. I was sad that the story actually ended and probably could’ve read on for another 300 pages. I easily read this in one sitting and could not put this book down. if you enjoy a contemporary romance with a little bit of western in it that portrays an adult relationship, not shadowed by tons of graphic intimacy, then you will 100% fall in love with this book.
Thank you to @bookedwiththeemilys and @susanhenshawauthor for the #gifted copy of the book.
If you're looking for a heartwarming cowboy romance, you need to read this book. It tells the story of Clementine and Silas, who must live together and take care of Anna, the daughter of Clementine's late best friend and Silas's sister. Silas has been in love with Clementine since high school and when she fell in love and married Billy, he couldn't stay and left for Wyoming. Will he take chance and finally win her heart?
The characters are well-developed, and I found myself rooting for Silas, Clementine, and Anna. The book is filled with second chances, family, heartbreak, and redemption. The alternating perspectives of Silas and Clementine make the story even more engaging, as we see their hopes and fears come to life.
I couldn't put the book down, and the ending left me eagerly anticipating the sequel, Not A Thing. You won't regret reading this book, it's a beautiful story of love and family that will warm your heart.
This book had me on an emotional roller coaster from start to finish. Silas is such a sweet character who just doesn’t know how to go after the love of his life until his twin forces him into staying in the same house as her for 3 months. You can just feel his emotional heartbreak when he explains his feeling from the past.. Clem is a strong female who has gone through too many struggles and doesn’t know how to trust another in order to accept their love. Reading the beginning chapter, you just know that she deserves so much better. I was pulled into the storyline right away and eating up the every curveball in their blooming relationship! I was shocked by some of the little twists and I can’t wait to figure them out further in future books. I was sad that we didn’t get the final status of “Team Trifecta” in this book though I hope that means it will be a big enough part of the next book to follow.
I read this book fast. It was good! I liked the characters, I really thought Sophie was fun, even from the grave she had personality. I thought Anna was well done, sometimes I think writers have a hard time writing kids. They either make them seem too old or too young. But this was well done.
I didn’t love all the drama at the end, I don’t love big misunderstandings where they won’t hear the other person out and it drags on. That was a bit annoying.
I don’t know if I can read the next book in the series since it’s about Christy, and she was so awful. She was clingy and desperate and kinda crazy. How can I read a book about her as the protagonist?
I wish this talked more about their ranch, it’s like it didn’t exist a quarter through the book.
Susan said it best - we all need a Silas in our lives! This love story is so heart warming! Watching Silas, Clem and Anna navigate their 90 days was so fun! They learned so much about each other and loved each other so much! The Dupree brothers have my heart, and made me giggle often at their antics! My favorite part had to be the tire slashing! 😏 All that being said; a happy ending deserved by all, and I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens next, and see who gets their happily ever after!
I first picked up book two in the series after seeing it recommended on my TikTok FYP. But as I started reading, I realized there were so many characters that it felt like I was missing something - so I went back and read book one instead. Best decision ever!
The story was a sweet second chance romance with the brother’s best friend trope, a guy who falls first, and a small-town setting full of family drama and chaos. Honestly, I really enjoyed it. My only complaint is that it was a bit too long, but everything else was amazing.
This book was so good! 10/10 recommend! IMO it’s a 5 ⭐️ read! This book even from early on will make you cry and laugh so hard! Clem and Silas were perfect for each other! Silas definitely gets his heart broken and it’s so sad and Clem she’s such a great character and when she finally realizes she broke Silas’ heart such a good scene! SOPHIE like bro she’s so great I need a Sophie in my life she is so meddlesome and funny!!

This was my first 5 star read of the year! I was happy to finally find something that made me feel good and really connected with me. The writing was phenomenal. It will have you giggling, rolling your eyes and crying all within a few chapters. You will want Silas for yourself and you will feel for Clementine in the bottom of your heart. Westerns aren't my usual go to but this one will hold a special place on my shelf this year as a book that pulled me out of a reading slump. Do yourself the favor of adding it to your TBR for when you need rescuing or order is on release day to devour it as soon as it hits your mailbox.
What a sweet read! This had all the pining, drama, and will-they-won’t-they of a perfect slow burn romance PLUS good, honest communication where it counts. Both MCs had their own passions and problems with the determination to figure things out. A wonderful read with a happy ending!
Silas and clementine’s story definitely gutted me made me want to throw my iPad and laugh all throughout the book. I absolutely love these two and how they overcame so much. I really enjoyed reading this.
I kind of hate this book. I hate that I liked some of it and thought we were finally getting a breakthrough and it just sucked. No one in this book is an adult. Some of the things were just mean. The baby arc… I don’t want to leave spoilers but man. I’m so disappointed.
I could not set this book down, I am usually a dark romance girly but after this I am in love with the cute, healthy romance! Our MMC teaches us what a real man and real love should be! 🥰 I want me a cowboy now!
I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to following the stories of these very human characters. Such a feel good story with heartbreak, redemption, humor… a few twists and turns, some suspected and some not…
I could sit and read this book with a nice hot cup of coffee as if I was sitting with friends. Thank you for this story, and the opportunity to read your ARC. I am already looking forward to the next book!
The story between Silas and Clementine continuously pulled at my heart strings! It was the right amount of everything - romance at its best. I couldn’t put the book down and when I did it was all I could think about until I could get back to it. If you are looking for a good love story that keeps you on your toes, this is it! Love, love, love it!
