"Lowham gives the reader everything they a magical tale full of humor, sincerity, and a satisfying redemption for an intricate character who quickly finds a way into our hearts." - Katie Stewart Stone, author of Scotland's Melody and Coming Home to Bellingham

How hard can it be to get one lost prince out of a fairy tower?

Astra has made a terrible wish—to be so beautiful that wealthy men propose at the sight of her. In Everspring, her magical parade of wealthy suitors quickly becomes a violent mob, and worst of all, the king himself sets his sights on her. But the king possesses dark magic of his own, and when Astra displeases him, she finds herself banished to the deadly fairy realm.

Her only refuge is another outcast more trapped and lonelier than she.

Dust was born to be the heir of Everspring, but his isolated tower in the fairy realm is the only home he’s ever known. Astra’s arrival means his first real chance at escape, if he can only trust her to help, but Dust was raised by fairies, and the first rule of fairy culture is to never trust anyone.

Dragons and depthfiends are not the worst dangers they’ll face, but if Astra and Dust can find a way to work together—to be honest with each other when they’ve never been honest with themselves—they may find true freedom and emerge from their prison remade.

I don’t pick up fairy tale retellings all that often, but I really enjoyed Beauty Reborn by this author, so when I heard the author had written a gender-swap Rapunzel retelling about Beauty’s sister, Astra, I ordered a copy, even though I didn’t really like Astra in the first book.

Astra has a lot to learn as the story begins soon after she has wished to become so beautiful that wealthy men will propose at the sight of her. The first lesson she learns is be careful what you wish for, but more lessons come. Her growth throughout the story is one of my favorite things about the book.

Another favorite thing about the book was Dust, the prince trapped in a tower because he father made a deal with fairies, and Dust, the firstborn son, was payment. But I don’t want to write too much about Dust or the plot or anything else, because it’s fun to just experience it.

You can read Astra Remade without reading Beauty Reborn first, but I think reading them in order is the best bet. I actually wished I would have read them a little closer together, because I had forgotten some of the details from Beauty Reborn. I recommend this one to fans of fairy tale retellings, YA fantasy, and clean romantasy.

I met Elizabeth Lowham at a writing conference for teens a year and a few months ago. After a memorable conversation, she gave me the only advance reader’s copy of her debut novel (Beauty Reborn) she’d brought. In doing so, she allowed me access to Beauty Reborn at the time in my life I needed it most. Elizabeth, if you ever happen to read this, I want to thank you sincerely for listening to whatever voice told you I needed it. You are a truly wonderful author and a deeply beautiful woman.

Needless to say, I bought Astra Remade the second I learned of its release. And let me just say, it was nearly flawless. This book has strong healing power just like its sister.

Both this book and its companion, Beauty Reborn, hit every point needed - in my opinion - to create a successful story. Each character has a distinct voice; it is easy to tell who is speaking without dialogue tags, and the shifting of POV in narration (and each character’s own personal POV in life) is shown masterfully! I love that every character has flaws and that they all experience individual growth and change - and I mean all of them. I enjoy the subtle ties to the original fairy tales in Elizabeth Lowham’s books, and I appreciate the uniquely real spins that she is brave enough to explore. Plus, they’re clean (finally!!) and depict the importance of healthy romantic relationships (finally!!).

Most importantly, Elizabeth Lowham tackles important and often underrepresented topics in tactful, empathetic ways. These books and their strong - yet realistic - heroines (and heroes!) touch me deeply and have even helped me as I’ve dealt with similar struggles. In a way most authors simply cannot do, Elizabeth Lowham offers hope and representation to people who experience trials often overlooked or have flaws often shied away from in literature.

I sincerely recommend Elizabeth Lowham’s work to those searching for a light-hearted, yet truly important, adventure into the minds of characters perfectly balanced between relatable fears and true bravery.

“…there’s plenty in the world that’s still good…”

Astra Remade is such a fun spin on the Rapunzel tale. This time it’s a prince trapped in the tower and the maiden must work to free him and save the kingdom from a corrupt king.

Astra is somewhat of a prickly character, but she demonstrates tremendously growth over the course of the book. She has many fears that manifest themselves in speaking forcefully and not always tactfully. She’s refreshingly self-deprecating though, and I enjoyed that about her character. Dust definitely tugged at my heart strings, with all of the ways he tries to combat loneliness and make a life for himself in the tower. The dialogue is cleverly written, with engaging banter and wit.

Bastien is my favorite secondary character, and I love Smicker the dragon(fly). The details of the magic realm and the different types of fairies and their role in everything made for a fascinating read. The romance is mild but sweet.

Young adult (and middle grade) fantasy is what got me into reading years ago. I so enjoy a book that takes me back to that quest and rescue type of story. I definitely want to read more of this author’s books. I have not read Beauty Reborn, and while I definitely want to, I didn’t feel like I needed to have read it prior to this one. She also has another young adult fantasy releasing in the fall, and I’m looking forward to it!

I received a complimentary copy of this novel; a positive review was not required, and these are my honest thoughts and opinions.

For me this book was meh 😕 not bad, just meh

I liked the overall idea of this book. I do feel like the author is learning her style (I loved her newest book "Casters and Crowns") I felt like this one lacked some of the build up to understand the characters.
We're just thrown into the plot and there's a lot of jumping around within the magic system.
I found the characters hard to connect with, although I don't hate them either. They were just sorta there.

What a fun retelling of the Rapunzel story. This is Book 2 in this series, and I think you definitely want to read them in order. I really enjoyed her very unique take on Beauty and the beast in the first book, and I actually enjoyed this one even more. The world that she builds is truly magical, and so fun. The details are incredible and I could picture everything so vividly in my brain. I loved the character growth, and how the story played out. I truly had no guesses as to how good would conquer evil, and it worked out very well. A great fantasy retelling, I would definitely recommend.

Thanks to the author for an advanced copy- all opinions are my own.

I love Elizabeth Lowham's writing, and this book was just as lyrical as "Beauty Reborn." At first, I struggled to connect with Astra, but I liked her character because she was unlikeable. I enjoyed watching her grow into a better person and yet still retain her memorable qualities.

I also loved the overall story--the mystery, adventure, fairy realm, characters, and even the obstacles--they all contributed to Astra and Dust's growth as individuals and as a couple. I will definitely recommend this book to everyone who enjoys fantasy, fairytale retellings with happy endings.

I enjoyed the sequel to Beauty Reborn, Astra Remade! This book is a retailing of Rapunzel, with switch gender roles. Dust, the male main character, is the one cursed. His outlook on life and everything about him is so likable. I enjoyed seeing the world expand with fairies and Bumble, too!

Overall, this is an excellent read for a YA fairytale retelling. It took me a little to get into the story, but seeing Astra change for the better was worth the read! I also enjoyed the sibling dynamics shown through this fairytale retelling.

All thoughts are my own; thank you for the ARC copy; I thoroughly enjoyed it!

"You matter. Because you're a person, not a coin, not a creation."

-I give this book 4.5 stars!

“Every adventure must make way for a new one to begin.”

Astra made a terrible wish. A magical parade of wealthy suitors quickly becomes a violent mob, and worst of all, the king himself sets his sights on her. But this king possesses dark magic of his own, and when Astra displeases him, she quickly finds herself banished to the deadly fairy realm. Her only refuge is another outcast more trapped and lonelier than she. You see, Dust was born to be the heir of Everspring, but his isolated tower in the fairy realm is the only home he’s ever known. Astra’s arrival means his first real chance at escape, if he can only trust her to help, but Dust was raised by fairies, and the first rule of fairy culture is to never trust anyone…

“If you return home with purpose, you helm your own fate.“

If you like fantasy, romance, adventure, and fairytales, then this story is for you! This is a unique, clever, gender bending twist on Rapunzel with a great redemption story. While this is book two in the series and while I haven’t read the first book in this series yet, this book could easily be read as a stand alone. Not once did I feel lost. This story is precisely weaved with such creativity, great humor, deep sincerity, great trials, full endurance, sweet satisfaction, and with layered but, dear characters who are fighting against gigantic odds. It’s a story that will have you engaged! Oh how the imagery and details bring this story alive.

I loved seeing Dust’s kindness and positivity shine through. For so long, he desperately wants to escape his own prison, yet he puts Astra’s needs ahead of his own. Seeing Astra transform from someone who is scared all the time and jealous of a younger sibling, to becoming a woman who can do things she never thought possible, and be comfortable with who she really is, was tender and beautiful. This is a fantasy retelling story that is worth reading!✨📚❤️

“Nothing is so beautiful as a person who has embraced purpose despite hardship. Such a person can bend the world itself.”

I love redemption arcs so watching Astra transform from someone who is scared all the time and jealous of her younger sister to a woman who can do things she never thought possible and becoming comfortable with who she is was beautiful. And I love that she and Beauty have a reconciliation; that always makes my heart warm ♥️ I also loved seeing the faerie realm in this one; the author is so creative! The portal thing for Dust to interact with the mortal world was super cool. Poor guy, being raised by faeries for so long and not being able to leave his tower...good thing he has his little friend/pet to eat his wood carvings, lol. And it was very fitting for Astra to fall in love with someone she had never seen, and vice versa. And of course there was a nice twist at the end, which I will not spoil here.

Highly recommend for anyone who likes, fantasy, romance, adventure, and fairytales!

I loved the world build and how stubborn Astra was but at the same time I loved Dust! He was one of my- if not my fav character.
The story had a few flashbacks (I’m not a big fan of flashbacks in stories but I liked it here) , it has crazy plot twists more like realizations (?) idk how to name it but they shocked me and also it was very interesting.
I can’t control my spoiler-level that’s why I won’t say anything about the story 🤣 but I liked it so much! The writing style was cool too, I could follow along just fine! I loved their interactions the most but I wish the end was a bit more with their relationship development as a couple but it was just perfectly enough and enjoyable.
Thank for for writing this story, I’m glad I got the chance to read it!

Astra Remade by Elizabeth Lowham is a spellbinding journey into a richly imagined fairy realm. The novel masterfully weaves themes of beauty, power, and trust as Astra’s wish leads her into unexpected dangers and alliances. Lowham’s characters are deeply engaging, particularly the dynamic between Astra and Dust, whose struggle for freedom is both thrilling and poignant. The enchanting world-building and compelling plot twists make this book a must-read for fans of fantasy and fairy tales. Highly recommended!

I did not believe that I would love this book more than Beauty Reborn, but boy was I wrong! This is the perfect example of how you do character development.

Astra is an absolute asshole yet I love her to bits and pieces and Dust is just an amazingly little cinnamon roll.

I really hope we get more books about this family and/or the world. It is really well done and vivid.

Elizabeth Lowham writes the most wholesome fantasy-romances I have ever read. The fantasy is in-depth, creative, clever and draws you in. Her characters are my favorite, they grow and learn in the most beautiful and inspiring ways that we can apply into our own lives. And of course the romance is always the most adorable thing you’ve ever read and so beautiful ❤️

Dang it!!! It ended too soon. I wanted more! Astra and Dust are exactly the type of person each of them needed. I loved seeing both of these characters grow, pushing each other to be better and seeing the best and accepting the worst in each other and themselves. It was just beautiful and fun in every moment! I want what they have!

I enjoyed Astra Remade! It’s a clever, gender bending twist on Rapunzel with a great redemption story. After reading Beauty Reborn, I was intrigued by Beauty’s sister Astra. She’s not the most likeable character and I was wondering how she would be redeemed. At the end of Beauty Reborn, Astra asks the blue fairy for a wish to be so beautiful that wealthy men will clamor to marry her. She gets her wish, but it’s not the boon she expected. When she has the chance to marry a King, Astra finds herself cursed and sent to a fairy realm.

The only other human in the fairy realm is a cursed prince who was sent there as a young child. No longer able to remember his name, he dubs himself Dust after the sawdust that accumulates from the wood carvings he’s learned to create. Unable to leave his tower, he bargains and trades with the fairies and other creatures to obtain what he needs. When at long last another human enters his world, he tries to find a way to escape while helping Astra as well.

I adored Dust! He was such a quiet, kind hero who finds the positive in his difficult situation. Though he desperately wants to escape his prison, he puts Astra’s needs ahead of his own. I loved the hot pepper truth game he plays with Doll and Astra. I also loved his carvings and the creatures like Bumble he befriends.

Astra grew on me as I got to know her personality and what happened to make her the way she was. I was surprised how much I enjoyed her growth throughout the story. The author did a fantastic job showing how her beauty became a curse, never able to fully express emotions while under the spell because of how they might mar her appearance, her unruly hair, and the unwanted attention. I loved how she came to love Dust and how his love & sacrifice caused her to really examine herself and want to change.

The world building was really fun. I loved all the different creatures and the magical realm. While it took me a while to fully understand everything, I loved the build up to the exciting conclusion and the way everything was resolved.

Definitely recommend to YA fantasy readers & those who enjoy fairytale retellings. While it can be read as a standalone, I suggest reading Beauty Reborn first to fully appreciate all the characters and magical setting. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided. 4-4.5 stars!

💛BOOK REVIEW! 💛 This is the sequel to Beauty Reborn by @lizlowham!

This book was a joy to read! It was a bit difficult to get into Astra's story at first, since she isn't the most likeable character at the end of Beauty Reborn, but I really enjoyed seeing her become a better person throughout the story. Lowham has a way of writing characters that makes you feel like you're reading the inner thoughts of an actual person, and it's spectacular. As for Dust, I loved him right away. I always have a soft spot for characters who choose to be kind despite their circumstances, and Dust is my favorite kind of quiet hero. I don't always find switching between POVs to be necessary, but the technique is used well here, since each perspective gives you more information than you would've received otherwise.

The worldbuilding was fantastic as well. I was a bit thrown off by all the surreal details of the fairy realm at first, but I got used to it and enjoyed those passages just as much as those set in Everspring. The magic system established in Beauty Reborn was greatly expanded upon with new information that fits in with the story's themes of rebirth and redemption nicely. I was pretty invested in the story by the end, and the ending was rather satisfying since it wrapped up some plot points left open in the previous book.
There were also a lot of funny moments as well. I adored the animal characters, especially Bumble.

I would definitely give this story a try, as long as you've read the first book first! Astra Remade is a worthy sequel that takes the first book and makes everything about it even better. It's available for preorder now and will be released on May 1, so buy your copy now!!

This is a delicious retelling of Rapunzel. The twist is that the hero, the affable Dust, is the one trapped in the tower, and the beautiful maiden, Astra, is the one doing the rescuing. There's a whole lot of wit and a whole lot of charm in this story, but the chemistry between these two was a stand out. So too were the dragons!

Thoroughly enjoyed! I had fun too guessing at what influenced and inspired madam author. Was she a fan of _Love Is Blind_? Was the initial nature of Dust and Astra's relationship commentary on how modern life (texting) has changed the way couples interact? Is there something about filters and social media tied up in the idea of beautiful facades that plays out in Astra's wish?

🌿Astra Remade by Elizabeth Lowham is a charming, sweet and cozy gender-flipped retelling of Rapunzel! We first meet Astra in Elizabeth's previous book Beauty Reborn, but in this story we see Astra begin a journey all her own! Astra herself isn't a very loveable heroine at first, but she goes through a lovely character growth arc throughout this story.. She seems to struggle with anxiety which comes through as anger, which is something she gets a better handle on as she grows and matures, her heart visibly softening. Dust, a mysterious Prince locked in a tower and raised by fairies, is the one in need of saving...and he's by far my favorite character! He has such a sweet and gentle nature, and your heart really goes out to him as he struggles with his isolation. The themes of hope, endurance and emotional healing are strongly felt in this book, which are a comforting balm as you read this story.

❤️ This was a creative and light-hearted YA No-Spice Rapunzel Retelling that I thoroughly enjoyed, and would highly recommend to younger fantasy readers! Thank you Elizabeth for the honor of being able to read your book as an arc!

I wasn't so sure about this book at first, I think because I didn't really like Astra! In the beginning, she just seems so selfish, full of blunt opinions, and vain... But give her a chance! Astra just needed an adventure of her own to turn what were in the beginning weaknesses, into great strengths! By the end, Astra is a caring, confident, stubborn in all the best ways, selfless young woman with a great inner strength that you really can admire! And I thoroughly enjoyed the journey she took to get there. Great character growth for sure.

On top of that, I absolutely loved and admired Dust, his attitude and selflessness were everything! Did I mention this is actually a very well done gender-swapped Rapunzel retelling? I had no idea until I started reading, but it was a really fun aspect of the story! Not to mention, the world and creatures the author created were so interesting and unique!

This book contains no bad language, no violence, and a clean/sweet romance with just kisses!

Twenty-five year old Astra Acton wants to get away from her family’s struggles, so she makes a wish to be so beautiful that wealthy men propose at the sight of her. However, she quickly becomes the target of the King. When she rejects his proposal, she is banished to the fairy realm. While there, she finds a tower with no doors. Dust is living at the top of the tower. He was the heir to the throne, until an unfortunate wish landed him in the fairy realm, to be raised by the untrustworthy fairies. Astra and Dust decide to work together to find freedom from their prisons.

This was a great gender reversed retelling of Rapunzel. Dust was a Prince who was cursed to be stuck in a tower. Astra wanted to move higher in life, after her family went bankrupt years before. This book is a sequel to Beauty Reborn. It could be read as a stand-alone, but there is a spoiler for Beauty Reborn if you want to read that one first.

Astra Remade is a great fairytale retelling!

Thank you Elizabeth Lowham for sending me a copy of this book!

I will admit to not really "getting" Astra at all for a long while, but as this story unfolded I could see the very real and deep emotions that prompted her horrible words and actions towards others. It is difficult for me to enjoy reading about characters like her, but the insights she shared and development she experienced made the journey worth it. I do recommend reading Beauty Reborn before Astra Remade to get the full story. I also recommend some patience as learning about the fairy realm is a bit of a process, at least it was for me. It was an interesting world that I did enjoy learning about. There are a lot of neat elements to bartering with fairies, completing a wish (or curse, as the wishes tend to be), and the whole dragon(fly) thing. Dust was amazing. How we all tend to lie to others and ourselves because of fear is a central point to this story, among other things.

Astra Remade is the tale of a woman struggling to decide what exactly she wants. It is a tale of a boy abandoned by humanity and his journey home. It is a tale full of magic not readily conquered and truth not easily found.

I loved every minute of this book, so much so that I read it in one sitting, despite the need for food or other necessities to live. I love Astra’s growth, Dust’s gentle caring, and of course everything about delightful Smicker!

Elizabeth Lowham continues to weave colorful stories full of humanity, emotion, and a message to improve and grow. I look forward to her next book and everything else that follows!

Decent sequel to Beauty Reborn, which must be read first. Good fantasy novel for teens 14+ who are interested in romantic fairytale retellings. Good characters; I found the MMC Dust especially lovable. Great moral messages. I adored the plot twist at the end regarding breaking Astra’s curse; I didn’t see it coming, but I’m sure many adult readers would guess it.

Content concerns:
-some kisses at the end (not very described)
-mother prays to a goddess while father prays to “his God” (weird decision to capitalize God in a fantasy world that is fine with goddess temples)
-Otherwise totally clean though, which can be hard to find in romance novels for this age group!

Charming with an amazing world and characters and some great character arcs. I wasn’t sure I’d like this one because the author did such a great job of making me hate Astra in the first book, and I will say I didn’t like this one as much as the first one, but I loved Dust from the beginning and Astra grew on me. It’s also nice to see a heroine with very real flaws that she struggles to overcome. Definitely worth the read and I’m really looking forward to many more books from this author!

I really like Elizabeth Lowham’s fantasies and fairy tale retellings! Very well-crafted.

Side-notes: At one point, Astra’s like the prodigal daughter…
The king’s behavior feels modernly relevant…
Interesting “met winter” euphemism…

“Clearly, ours would be a very harmonious marriage, if I could only resist strangling him for the rest of my life.”

“…The scars were worth the result.”
