Deany Ray has always wanted to be a writer so she decided to take the plunge and dive into it. She loves writing cozy mysteries, as this is what she likes to read the most. Her favorite activities are traveling, going to the movie theatre, meeting up with friends and having cooking sessions with her awesome mom.
This is a series filled with quirky characters, and I find myself laughing out loud at their antics. Piper and Gran are definitely fish out of water at the Bitter End retirement community . Ex biker gang members from Oregon, they are out of their comfort zone in a retirement community in Florida ,where they are living in witness protection. Piper has now taken a job as security here, which turns out to be more work than she expected, especially during the Valentine's Day festivities. The seniors are having a multi-day celebration ,including an archery competition, movie night , and a costume party. Of course, nothing goes smoothly , and Cupid is murdered . Piper, Gran , and Edie are on the case and trying to stay under the radar of the police and Edie's grandson, Ryker. There are many hilarious moments as the trio search for clues . And the costume party is something you won't want to miss. I love this series and can't wait for the next book. I received an arc copy of this book, and this is my freely offered and honest review.
So this is the 6th and Final book, as of January 2025, in this series and I can't believe that we are still talking about the same exact thing over and over again. I do appreciate the perspective that starting a new life and the witness protection program and living a life of Lies can be difficult and challenging but you can only read about it so long. Not to mention all the other tropes that run through this series. This could be great except for the constant reminders of their old life, how neither women are trying to get romantic, which is just kind of silly to me, not to mention the high Jinks that surround the retirement community and everything going on there. It's pretty sad when the 60 and 70 year olds are having more fun than the 30 year old. Not to mention it's a little weird that everybody in the retirement community is single, don't married couples move into retirement communities? And where on Earth do they come up with all the money for all these crazy parties? However, if you ignore all of that it's actually a decent plot. I hear that there is a seventh book coming up and if there's no discernible progress between Piper and Riker or Dorothy and Theodore I don't think I can read further.
I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful this book is. I laughed and laughed until I nearly choked on my own laughter, and I started sneezing because I laughed so much and almost had a heart attack. This was the most wonderful funny, exciting thriller with Piper and her grandma getting into trouble all over again. I don’t want to spoil it for anybody, but you’ve got to read it. I absolutely love these three gals. They are the most fun, loving hilarious spies, and I use that word, chasing around criminals. all Deany Ray’s books are hilarious and you will never regret buying them and reading all of them. It’s more fun reading them in order, but you could read them out of order. I just say buy them all and read them and laugh. Your hearts out until the cows come home. She is a great writer, and the people in her stories are real. I just love them. I can’t say enough good about these books!
Back again at Till the Bitter End Independent Living! Gran and Piper are living here after being placed in the witness protection program. Not exactly where they would have chosen to live but they are still trying to make the best of it. The main problem is that Piper keeps finding herself in the middle of murder investigations! Now that she has taken a job as security at the retirement center, it’s all she can do to keep these senior adults in check! It’s Valentine’s and there are activities planned for all week but those plans didn’t include the murder of Cupid! Piper, Gran and their neighbor Edie jump into investigating. After all, they have to keep the seniors safe! These senior adults are a hoot and I can’t get enough of their antics! Another winner from Deany Ray!
I love these books not just because of the great storylines, but because they make me laugh out loud every time I read a book in this wonderful series. Piper Harris and her gran, Dorothy are now in the witness protection program, (WITSEC) in Bitter End, Florida and living at The Bitter End Independent Living while hoping to avoid being found and killed by their former gang, The Falcons. Living at a retirement facility is not how Piper wants to spend her time, but she must do what’s best for her and Gran and that means living with folks twice as old as she is but with more exciting lives. This series is a hoot! I love Piper, her gran, feisty neighbor Edie and her hot grandson Ryker. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
I laughed so much I had tears rolling down my cheeks. This is a humerus and clean cozy mystery with murder. An array of vibrant ,colorful and quirky characters that support Piper the heroine of this well written and endearing cozy that has a plot carries you in many different directions but somehow always brings together Piper, Gran and her niebour and grandson at End of Days Community Retirement Center involved in one ulceration or another. You really won't want to put it down once you've started reading it until you've reached its unexpected and climatic conclusion. Acquire " Be My Valentine " the sixth mystery in ( A Piper Harris Mystery) so that you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. Kat
Piper Harris has taken the security position at Till the Bitter End Independent Living, and her involvement in holiday activities (Valentine's Day specifically) has morphed into almost more than she can handle. Good thing Ryder is willing to help...
A wonderful mix of murder and mostly mayhem filled with awkward situations, fun characters, and a plot that keeps you reading just one more chapter. Delightful characters, interesting friendships, and plenty of humor make this perfect for just about everyone. I loved it and am already anxiously waiting for the next book in the series!
The Piper Harris series seems to get better the further into it you get. The storyline in this one just hit better. Perhaps because it dealt with more personal “feels” than the other novels. As a reader, we really see Piper going through changes of learning who she is now, she is becoming quite empathetic. Even Dorothy is showing some heart, barely, but she isn’t flinching when Edie shared her fondness. And… FINALLY Ryker begins to make some moves. Now I need to start the next book… what adventures will occur when they finally go for dinner - I can’t wait to find out.

Be My Valentine is the 6th book in the Piper Harris Mystery series. The senior living complex is celebrating Valentine week. Yes, week. Not day. In the archery area set up for the seniors, an errant shaft from a crossbow strikes one of the workers resulting in his death. Only it winds up as a murder investigation.
There is developed characters, a bit of humor, and a touch of romance. It is Valentines after all.
I love this series. One of my favorites. Piper, Gran and Edie can get into more messes — they remind me of Lucy and Ethel, with criminals and mystery added. I laugh out loud. I visualize them. And reading this series makes me happy. I hate for them to end and always wish there were more, but really, some of the most enjoyable reads ever. Can’t wait for the Piper-Ryker date.
Another hilarious adventure with Piper, Gran with their favorite sidekick Edie, at least she was always coming along as the sidekick whether they wanted it or not. The whole community was wild ‘n crazy enough, but an entire week of said crazy with Valentines events and Piper as the newly-hired security for the place definitely guaranteed the laughs were gonna continue right up to the killer showdown. And they did.
Piper and her grandmother are still hiding out, in the witness protection program, in the senior community. However, Piper is now officially working in security. She's at a Valentine event, where Cupid is killed by an arrow.
Funny situations and crazy characters abound. This book is just plain fun to read.
Yall we're finally getting somewhere on the crushes!! However, if you want to know more than I suggest you grab this book and find out!! It also seems they're settling into their new reality finally as well. I can't wait to see where the next book takes us!
I have (sadly) finished this series and I have to say that each book was funnier than the last. I laughed out loud at the crazy antics of Piper, Gran and their sidekick, Edie!!
This is the best humorous cozy series I’ve read and I can’t wait for the next installment.
Ms Ray never fails with the crazy antics of her characters. I can’t wait to see what situations the three of them get into. I do wish Piper would get a life outside the retirement community. It appears Gran is softening a little. I look forward to the next book.
This is the 6th Piper Harris book I’ve read. I binge read from book 1 to book 6 over the last few days and can’t wait for the next one. It’s light hearted, funny, with wit and a bit of potential romance thrown in. I’d highly recommend the series and I now will look at the other books by Deany Ray.
I enjoy the adventures that Edie, Grams and Piper get themselves involved in. I also like that whatever bad situation Piper is in she is confident that the bad guy made a big mistake and will go down. I look forward to the last book in this series Robert Ericksen
Sheesh_enough with the falcon already. There has to be another story line that would keep readers interests. Edie is a character to get to know better.
Sheesh-enough already with the falcon. There has to be other story lines to keep readers interested. Fun reading but give me more
This is another fun cozy mystery in this series. The characters each have their quirks. There is plenty of mystery, action, fun, and some romance. It's an entertaining book.
I really enjoy the antics of Piper, Gran and Edie. They light up a story and make the mystery so appealing you just want more. The author excels in this series as each book gets better and better. I love this series and can't wait to read more!!!!!
I look forward to this series and every new book available. While not losing their stubbornness, crankiness, etc, Piper and gran seem to be accepting their new life. Can't wait to see what happens when Ryker figures it out - he is tenacious enough. But, more importantly, what's going to happen when he offers Piper a ride on his bike!! If you haven't read, start at the beginning and enjoy the ride!
Do you want action ? Do want mystery? Do you laughter? This series of books are just what you are looking for . Between Piper ,Gran and Edie life is never boring. It is must to read
Yet another wonderful, funny, sitting on the edge of your seat story. This story had you laughing as Piper & Gran slowly were letting their past turn into caring members of their community. But when murder struck yet again, their bad a$$ selves came out. Loved this story. Excitement & adventure. No procrastinating Deany, we need the new book asap.
Like all the books that came before I really enjoyed the mischief and mystery in Be My Valentine. I especially enjoyed seeing more growth between Piper and Ryder. One of my favorite series, can't wait for the next book!
I like this series because it’s entertaining and I don’t need to think. The writing isn’t good but it’s an easy read. One thing that makes me crazy is the incorrect grammar and spelling. These books need to be proofread better.
A week long Valentine's celebration ends up with one of the party companies workers dead by crossbow bolt, and a mystery as to who did it. The girls get together to figure out who done it before the party ends at the end of the week. Good Read.
I would love to see this made into a tv show. This is so funny with lots of action if cast and written right I could see it getting an Emmy. Loved the whole series so far.
The mysteries, the characters, the comedy. I'm not sure which part was the most enjoyable. The series was an absolute delight and I'm very much looking forward to Volume7!
I love this series. They are always exciting and funny. All her characters are always so amazing. It has been a great pleasure reading them. I can't wait for the next adventure. Thank you!
