When she inherits a cottage in a Yorkshire village from someone she hardly knows, Flora is surprised to find a wildflower meadow behind it - perfect for her Natural Healing business. Yet a bigger surprise awaits, as she finds she has a family there that she didn't even know existed - and they have a secret or two. Or three. Perhaps she should have guessed. After all, the village was home to the legendary Witches of Farstone.
Out on the moors surrounding the remote village and reputedly home to the Faestone - a mythical portal into the Faery world - she comes across a Byronic hero. Ridiculously good-looking but as scary as hell at first sight and riding his coal-black steed with a galumphing giant hound following him. It makes her wonder what sort of a place she's landed in.
Join Flora as she navigates the revelations with a calm good humour - and finds that, along the way, she has discovered somewhere she truly belongs. Meet the slightly eccentric characters she gets to know - and love. A feel-good, romantic, funny book with that mystical twist, for you to lose yourself in.
I’m a Yorkshire girl and have a great interest in Wicca and witchcraft so the synopsis of this book sung to me but it was a bit of a let down. The story felt rushed and the characters were really two dimensional. It was flimsy and predictable. A great plot with great potential, it just needed more meat on the bones of it.
Wonderful, like being wrapped in a cozy blanket! Found family, new friends and embracing her talents leads Flora to a life she barely dreamed of after inheriting her Great-Aunt's little cottage and shop in Farstone in Devon. Simply magical!
I find such comfort in Susanna Scott's books. In a world that gets more ugly and cruel each day, it's a relief to sink into one of her stories. Wildflower Witch was filled with characters I wish I knew, especially the women, in a community that treasured its ancient history. This book includes references to the witch hunts of the past and the importance women healers have always had. If you need a few hours to decompress before you take on the world again, this book is just what you need.
Honestly really meh and pretty unsatisfying at times.
The main character is crazy. She rubs down a strangers horse without asking. She insists on talking to a woman who has trauma, and refuses to take no for an answer, blatantly ignoring this woman's boundaries. Somehow this works out in her favor both times.
She never has to work for things or experience more than a momentary setback. She has all the money she needs to fix the house and there's nothing that goes wrong during the process. It never feels like she has to put work into anything. Everything just falls into place because of who she is and this birthright she didn't know she had. She's pretty much perfect in every way. Her only flaws and mistakes are wandering too far into the moors because she was lost in thought, and not immediately accepting the existance of fairies just because her love interest writes about them.
None of the interesting plot lines are ever explored. Her love interest is unknowly half fey. We find this out, she doesn't, and nothing comes of it. She finds a portal to the fey realm in a moment of need. We never see it again and it's only significance to the story is another witch saying the fact that she found it means she's powerful. There's an obviously fey storyteller in town. We barely interact with him. Within days of her arrival there's a storm stronger than anything seen in years that comes on without warning. It never happens again.
This book felt like the rough draft of the first half of a book. It was cozy but throughly uninteresting.

This is my first Susanna Scott book and believe me it didn't disappoint in anyway and is well worth the five stars I've given it.
The story follows Flora on a journey of self discovery and following her new life.
Flora inherits a beautiful cottage and shop in this wonderful little village, it's almost like she has been sent there and should be there..... when things start to come together for her she truly finds the place her heart belongs.
Set in a beautiful little village with some great characters along the way.
Filled with lots of magical ways, folklore, the fae and a good old bit of story telling keeping alive some age old traditions.... keep your eyes open for the faceless man!
Every page made me want more of this book, infact I never wanted it to end....
Thank you Susanna for a wonderfully warm, cosy magical read.
This was a cozy and magical story, although at times a bit meandering.
While many family secrets were revealed or hinted at, there really wasn't any drama or emotional tension. Many of the characters were interesting and likeable, and I would have enjoyed getting to know them better.
There were a lot of typos and grammatical errors, which became harder to ignore the further that I read, but I endeavored to focus on the cozy vibes instead.
If you're looking for a lighthearted, feel-good magical story in a beautiful setting, then this one is for you! ☕️✨️📚
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It kept my interest all the way through. I felt that I knew the characters and found them to be likeable in their very different ways.
4.5 stars. So sweet and lovely and cosy, almost too sweet at times lol. Just a perfect low, or really no stakes read. Almost no conflict at all. Makes you feel good and comfy and like everything will be okay. Definitely plan to read more from this author.
I honestly don't know how to explain how this book makes !me feel. It's left a real yearning for "if only". I read it within thirty six hours and look forward so much to her other books.
Nice easy read albeit a bit predictable. Perfect for a rainy winters day when you need to imagine wildflower meadows! Four stars given as I would have liked the Face stones given more storyline and depth, but nice cosy read overall
An enjoyable tale full of interesting characters who respond to the changes in life with acceptance and willingness to grow and learn. Finding welcoming family you did not know you had is heartwarming.
An Enchanting modern faerie story- carries the reader down a gently babbling brook to the inevitable happy ending! Read it in the Sunshine with soundtrack of birdsong - a definite potion for a blessed day .
